Herein, we report a high‐level theoretical study (SCS‐RI‐MP2(full)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ) examining the stacking affinity of 1,3,5‐triethynylbenzene. The stacking properties of this compound are compared to those of benzene and 1,3,5‐trifluorobenzene. The results indicate that the ethynyl substituent improves the stacking affinity of the arene, since the binding energies for the stacked ethynyl‐substituted arene dimers are higher than those of both benzene and the fluoro‐substituted arene. This interesting behaviour has been studied by examining the energetics, geometries and electron charge density features of the complexes. A query in the Cambridge Structural Database returned several X‐ray crystal structures containing π–π stacking interactions of 1,3,5‐triethynylaryls that strongly agree with the theoretical results.  相似文献

New tripodal squaramide‐based hosts have been synthesised and structurally characterised by spectroscopic methods. In 2.5 % (v/v) [D6]DMSO in CDCl3, compound 4 formed dimeric assemblies [log Kdim=3.68(8)] as demonstrated by 1H NMR spectroscopy and UV dilution experiments. AFM and SEM analyses revealed the formation of a network of bundled fibres, which indicates a preferential mechanism for aggregation. These C3‐symmetric tripodal hosts exhibited two different and mutually exclusive modes of binding, each one easily accessible by simultaneous reorientation of the squaramide groups. In the first, a convergent disposition of the NH squaramide protons allowed the formation of an array of N? H???X? hydrogen bonds with anions. In the second mode, reorientation of carbonyl squaramide groups allowed multiple C?O???H interactions with ammonium cations. The titration of 4 with different tetraalkylammonium iodides persistently showed the formation of 1:1 complexes, as well as 1:2 and 1:3 complexes. The corresponding stoichiometries and binding affinities of the complexes were evaluated by multi‐regression analysis. The formation of high‐order complexes, supported by ROESY, NOESY and mass spectrometry experiments, has been attributed to the insertion of NR4I ion pairs between the carbonyl and NH protons of the squaramide groups located in adjacent arms of 4 . The observed effects reflect the induction of significant conformational changes in the hosts, mainly in relation to the relative orientation of the squaramide groups adapting their geometries to incoming ion‐pair complementary substrates. The results presented herein identify and fully describe two different modes of ion‐pair recognition aimed at directing conformational transitions in the host, therefore establishing a base for controlling more elaborate movements of molecular devices through ion‐pair recognition.  相似文献

4,6‐Bis(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐alkylpyrimidines with two anthryl or 9‐ethylnylanthryl substituents at the positions para to the OH groups prefer a U‐shaped conformation supported by two intramolecular OH ??? N hydrogen bonds in the solid state and in CDCl3 solution. The compound with a hexyl substituent on the pyrimidine group and two 9‐ethynylanthryl arms at the hydroxyphenyl groups forms a 1:1 complex with 2,4,7‐trinitrofluorenone. Its association constant Ka was estimated to be 2100 M ?1 at 298 K, which is larger than those of other molecular tweezers (Ka<1000 M ?1). DFT calculations suggested that the complex adopts a stable conformation supported by intramolecular hydrogen bonds among the OH groups and the pyrimidine ring as well as by intermolecular π–π interaction between the anthryl groups and 2,4,7‐trinitrofluorenone. Addition of nBu4NF to a solution of the molecular tweezers or their complexes causes the cleavage of one or two OH ??? N hydrogen bonds, formation of new O ??? HF hydrogen bonds, and changes in the molecular conformation. The resulting structure of the molecular tweezers contains nonparallel anthryl groups, which do not bind the guest molecule. Photochemical measurements on 4,6‐bis(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐methylpyrimidine with two anthryl substituents showed negligible luminescence (quantum yield ?<0.01), owing to photoinduced electron transfer of the molecule with a U‐shaped structure. However, the O‐hexylated compound exhibits emission from the anthryl groups with ?=0.39.  相似文献

We report the template‐directed synthesis of BlueCage6+, a macrobicyclic cyclophane composed of six pyridinium rings fused with two central triazines and bridged by three paraxylylene units. These moieties endow the cage with a remarkably electron‐poor cavity, which makes it a powerful receptor for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Upon forming a 1:1 complex with pyrene in acetonitrile, however, BlueCage?6 PF6 exhibits a lower association constant Ka than its progenitor ExCage?6 PF6. A close inspection reveals that the six PF6? counterions of BlueCage6+ occupy the cavity in a fleeting manner as a consequence of anion–π interactions and, as a result, compete with the PAH guests. This conclusion is supported by a one order of magnitude increase in the Ka value for pyrene in BlueCage6+ when the PF6? counterions are replaced by much bulkier anions. The presence of anion–π interactions is supported by X‐ray crystallography, and confirms the presence of a PF6? counterion inside its cavity.  相似文献

In this study, several lone pair–π and aerogen–π complexes between XeO3 and XeF4 and aromatic rings with different electronic natures (benzene, trifluorobenzene, and hexafluorobenzene) are optimized at the RI‐MP2/aug‐cc‐pVTZ level of theory. All complexes are characterized as true minima by frequency analysis calculations. The donor/acceptor role of the ring in the complexes is analyzed using the natural bond orbital computational tool, showing a remarkable contribution of orbital interactions to the global stabilization of the aerogen–π complexes. Finally, Bader's AIM analysis of several complexes is performed to further characterize the lone pair–π and aerogen–π interactions.  相似文献

As the host possessing the largest cavity in the cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n]) family, CB[10] has previously displayed unusual recognition and assembly properties with guests but much remains to be explored. Herein, we present the recognition properties of CB[10] toward a series of bipyridinium guests including the tetracationic cyclophane known as blue box along with electron‐rich guests and detail the influence of encapsulation on the charge‐transfer interactions between guests. For the mono‐bipyridinium guest (methylviologen, MV 2+), CB[10] not only forms 1:1 and 1:2 inclusion complexes, but also enhances the charge‐transfer interactions between methylviologen and dihydroxynaphthalene ( HN ) by mainly forming the 1:2:1 packed “sandwich” complex (CB[10] ? 2 MV 2+ ?HN ). For guest 1 with two bipyridinium units, an interesting conformational switching from linear to “U” shape is observed by adding catechol to the solution of CB[10] and the guest. For the tetracationic cyclophane‐blue box, CB[10] forms a stable 1:1 inclusion complex; the two bipyridinium units tilt inside the cavity of CB[10] according to the X‐ray crystal structure. Finally, a supramolecular “Russian doll” was built up by threading a guest through the cavities of both blue box and CB[10].  相似文献

Buckle up! The dimerization of small fluorescent guests is strongly enhanced in presence of a cyclodextrin host. The host cavity acts like a belt to assist the self‐assembly of guests (see picture). Small variations in the guest structure have significant influence on the stability and geometry of the aggregates.

The enhancement of the binding between halide anions and a Lewis acidic uranyl–salophen receptor has been achieved by the introduction of pendant electron‐deficient arene units into the receptor skeleton. The association and the occurrence of the elusive anion–π interaction with halide anions (as tetrabutylammonium salts) have been demonstrated in solution and in the solid state, providing unambiguous evidence on the interplay of the concerted interactions responsible for the anion binding.  相似文献

We have designed and utilized a simple molecular recognition system to study the substituent effects in aromatic interactions. Recently, we showed that 3‐ and 3,5‐disubstituted benzoyl leucine diethyl amides with aromatic rings of varying electronic character organized into homochiral dimers in the solid state through a parallel displaced π–π interaction and two hydrogen bonds, but no such homochiral dimerization was observed for the unsubstituted case. This phenomenon supports the hypothesis that substituents stabilize π–π interactions regardless of their electronic character. To further investigate the origin of substituent effects for π–π interactions, we synthesized and crystallized a series of 4‐substituted benzoyl leucine diethyl amides. Surprisingly, only two of the 4‐substituted compounds formed homochiral dimers. A comparison among the 4‐substituted compounds that crystallized as homochiral dimers and their 3‐substituted counterparts revealed that there are differences in regard to the geometry of the aromatic rings with respect to each other, which depend on the electronic nature and location of the substituent. The crystal structures of the homochiral dimers that showed evidence of direct, local interactions between the substituents on the aromatic rings also displayed nonequivalent dihedral angles in the individual monomers. The crystallographic data suggests that such “flexing” may be the result of the individual molecules orienting themselves to maximize the local dipole interactions on the respective aromatic rings. The results presented here can potentially have broad applicability towards the development of molecular recognition systems that involve aromatic interactions.  相似文献

Anion–π interactions have been widely studied as new noncovalent driving forces in supramolecular chemistry. However, self‐assembly induced by anion–π interactions is still largely unexplored. Herein we report the formation of supramolecular amphiphiles through anion–π interactions, and the subsequent formation of self‐assembled vesicles in water. With the π receptor 1 as the host and anionic amphiphiles, such as sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), sodium laurate (SLA), and sodium methyl dodecylphosphonate (SDP), as guests, the sequential formation of host–guest supramolecular amphiphiles and self‐assembled vesicles was demonstrated by SEM, TEM, DLS, and XRD techniques. The intrinsic anion–π interactions between 1 and the anionic amphiphiles were confirmed by crystal diffraction, HRMS analysis, and DFT calculations. Furthermore, the controlled disassembly of the vesicles was promoted by competing anions, such as NO3?, Cl?, and Br?, or by changing the pH value of the medium.  相似文献

As a synthetic model for intra-protein interactions that reinforce binding affinities between proteins and ligands, the energetic interplay of binding and folding was investigated using foldamer-based receptors capable of adopting helical structures. The receptors were designed to have identical hydrogen-bonding sites for anion binding but different aryl appendages that simply provide additional π-stacking within the helical backbones without direct interactions with the bound anions. In particular, the presence of electron-deficient aryl appendages led to dramatic enhancements in the association constant between the receptor and chloride or nitrate ions, by up to three orders of magnitude. Extended stacking within the receptor contributes to the stabilization of the entire folding structure of complexes, thereby enhancing binding affinities.  相似文献

By introducing slight structural modifications to a D4‐symmetric coordination capsule, we succeeded in isolating the nearly enantiopure capsules (P)‐ and (M)‐ 2 a (BF4)4. Chiral guest, dibenzyl 4,4′‐diacetoxy‐6,6′‐dimethyl‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐2,2′‐dicarboxylate ( 3 ) was encapsulated within the dissymmetric cavity of 2 a (BF4)4, resulting in a high diastereoselectivity of >99 % de. The encapsulated guest was successfully removed from the complex without racemization through precipitation of the empty capsule. CD spectra confirmed that the chirality of the capsule was maintained in THF and 1,4‐dioxane for long periods, whereas a small amount of acetonitrile accelerated racemization of the empty capsule. The activation parameters of the racemization reaction were determined in dichloromethane and 1,2‐dichloroethane, resulting in positive enthalpic contributions and large negative entropic contributions, respectively. Accordingly, the racemization fits a first‐order kinetic model. Mechanically coupled Cu+‐2,2′‐bipyridine coordination centers were responsible for the high‐energy barrier of racemization and led to the unique chiral memory of the dissymmetric cavity, which was turned off by the addition of acetonitrile.  相似文献
