Metallic nanocrystals (NCs) with well‐defined sizes and shapes represent a new family of model systems for establishing structure–function relationships in heterogeneous catalysis. Here in this study, we show that catalyst poisoning can be utilized as an efficient strategy for nanocrystals shape and composition control, as well as a way to tune the catalytic activity of catalysts. Lead species, a well‐known poison for noble‐metal catalysts, was investigated in the growth of Pd NCs. We discovered that Pb atoms can be incorporated into the lattice of Pd NCs and form Pd–Pb alloy NCs with tunable composition and crystal facets. As model catalysts, the alloy NCs with different compositions showed different selectivity in the semihydrogenation of phenylacetylene. Pd–Pb alloy NCs with better selectivity than that of the commercial Lindlar catalyst were discovered. This study exemplified that the poisoning effect in catalysis can be explored as efficient shape‐directing reagents in NC growth, and more importantly, as a strategy to tailor the performance of catalysts with high selectivity.  相似文献

Excavated polyhedral noble‐metal materials that were built by the orderly assembly of ultrathin nanosheets have both large surface areas and well‐defined facets, and therefore could be promising candidates for diverse important applications. In this work, excavated cubic Pt–Sn alloy nanocrystals (NCs) with {110} facets were constructed from twelve nanosheets by a simple co‐reduction method with the assistance of the surface regulator polyvinylpyrrolidone. The specific surface area of the excavated cubic Pt–Sn NCs is comparable to that of commercial Pt black despite their larger particle size. The excavated cubic Pt–Sn NCs exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity in terms of both the specific area current density and the mass current density towards methanol oxidation.  相似文献

Pt? Cu alloy octahedral nanocrystals (NCs) have been synthesized successfully by using N,N‐dimethylformamide as both the solvent and the reducing agent in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride. Cu underpotential deposition (UPD) is found to play a key role in the formation of the Pt? Cu alloy NCs. The composition in the Pt? Cu alloy can be tuned by adjusting the ratio of metal precursors in solution. However, the Cu content in the Pt? Cu alloy NCs cannot exceed 50 %. Due to the fact that Cu precursor cannot be reduced to metallic copper and the Cu content cannot exceed 50 %, we achieved the formation of the Pt? Cu alloy by using Cu UPD on the Pt surface. In addition, the catalytic activities of Pt? Cu alloy NCs with different composition were investigated in electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid. The results reveal that the catalytic performance is strongly dependent on Pt? Cu alloy composition. The sample of Pt50Cu50 exhibits excellent activity in electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid.  相似文献

Pt alloy nanostructures show great promise as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cell cathodes. Herein, three‐dimensional (3D) Pt‐Pd‐Co trimetallic network nanostructures (TNNs) with a high degree of alloying are synthesized through a room temperature wet chemical synthetic method by using K2PtCl4/K3Co(CN)6–K2PdCl4/K3Co(CN)6 mixed cyanogels as the reaction precursor in the absence of surfactants and templates. The size, morphology, and surface composition of the Pt‐Pd‐Co TNNs are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected‐area electron diffraction (SAED), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), EDS mapping, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The 3D backbone structure, solid nature, and trimetallic properties of the mixed cyanogels are responsible for the 3D structure and high degree of alloying of the as‐prepared products. Compared with commercially available Pt black, the Pt‐Pd‐Co TNNs exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity and stability towards the ORR, which is ascribed to their unique 3D structure, low hydroxyl surface coverage and alloy properties.  相似文献

A synthesis strategy for the preparation of ultrathin free‐standing ternary‐alloy nanosheets is reported. Ultrathin Pd‐Pt‐Ag nanosheets with a thickness of approximately 3 nm were successfully prepared by co‐reduction of the metal precursors in an appropriate molar ratio in the presence of CO. Both the presence of CO and the interplay between the constituent metals provide fine control over the anisotropic two‐dimensional growth of the ternary‐alloy nanostructure. The prepared Pd‐Pt‐Ag nanosheets were superior catalysts of ethanol electrooxidation owing to their specific structural and compositional characteristics. This approach will pave the way for the design of multicomponent 2D nanomaterials with unprecedented functions.  相似文献

Pt‐based nanomaterials play important roles in the catalytic process toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Rationally regulating the composition and morphology of the catalysts could enhance the catalytic performance effectively. In this work, an effective method is presented to synthesize Pd@ mesoporous PtRu nanorattles (Pd@mPtRu NRs) containing a Pd core and a mesoporous PtRu shell. Owing to the unique structure and PtRu alloy composition, the prepared Pd@mPtRu NRs exhibit an enhanced catalytic performance and durability toward ORR relative to mesoporous PtRu hollow nanoparticles (mPtRu HNs) and commercial Pt/C. The proposed approach may provide a general way to synthesize Pt‐based yolk‐shell structures with different compositions.  相似文献

Noble metal nanocrystals (NCs) enclosed with high‐index facets hold a high catalytic activity thanks to the high density of low‐coordinated step atoms that they exposed on their surface. Shape‐control synthesis of the metal NCs with high‐index facets presents a big challenge owing to the high surface energy of the NCs, and the shape control for metal Rh is even more difficult because of its extraordinarily high surface energy in comparison with Pt, Pd, and Au. The successful synthesis is presented of tetrahexahedral Rh NCs (THH Rh NCs) enclosed by {830} high‐index facets through the dynamic oxygen adsorption/desorption mediated by square‐wave potential. The results demonstrate that the THH Rh NCs exhibit greatly enhanced catalytic activity over commercial Rh black catalyst for the electrooxidation of ethanol and CO.  相似文献

A facile, one-step reduction route was developed to synthesize Pd-rich carbon-supported Pd–Pt alloy electrocatalysts of different Pd/Pt atomic ratios. As-prepared Pd–Pt/C catalysts exhibit a single phase fcc structure and an expansion lattice parameter. Comparison of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on the Pd–Pt/C alloy catalysts indicates that the Pd3Pt1/C bimetallic catalyst exhibits the highest ORR activity among all the Pd–Pt alloy catalysts and shows a comparative ORR activity with the commercial Pt/C catalyst. Moreover, all the Pd–Pt alloy catalysts exhibited much higher methanol tolerance during the ORR than the commercial Pt/C catalyst. High methanol tolerance of the Pd–Pt alloy catalysts could be attributed to the weak adsorption of methanol induced by the composition effect, to the presence of Pd atoms and to the formation of Pd-based alloys.  相似文献

A one‐pot method for the fast synthesis of a 3D nanochain network (NNC) of PdCu alloy without any surfactants is described. The composition of the as‐prepared PdCu alloy catalysts can be precisely controlled by changing the precursor ratio of Pd to Cu. First, the Cu content changes the electronic structure of Pd in the 3D NNC of PdCu alloy. Second, the 3D network structure offers large open pores, high surface areas, and self‐supported properties. Third, the surfactant‐free strategy results in a relatively clean surface. These factors all contribute to better electrocatalytic activity and durability towards ethanol oxidation. Moreover, the use of copper in the alloy lowers the price of the catalyst by replacing the noble metal palladium with non‐noble metal copper. The composition‐optimized Pd80Cu20 alloy in the 3D NNC catalyst shows an increased electrochemically active surface area (80.95 m2 g?1) and a 3.62‐fold enhancement of mass activity (6.16 A mg?1) over a commercial Pd/C catalyst.  相似文献

Exploiting high‐performance and inexpensive electrocatalysts for methanol electro‐oxidation is conductive to promoting the commercial application of direct methanol fuel cells. Here, we present a facile synthesis of echinus‐like PdCu nanocrystals (NCs) via a one‐step and template‐free method. The echinus‐like PdCu NCs possess numerous straight and long branches which can provide abundant catalytic active sites. Owing to the novel nanoarchitecture and electronic effect of the PdCu alloy, the echinus‐like PdCu NCs display high electrocatalytic performance toward methanol oxidation reaction in an alkaline medium. The mass activity of echinus‐like PdCu NCs is 1202.1 mA mgPd?1, which is 3.7 times that of Pd/C catalysts. In addition, the echinus‐like structure, as a kind of three‐dimensional self‐supported nanoarchitecture, endows PdCu NCs with significantly enhanced stability and durability. Hence, the echinus‐like PdCu NCs hold prospect of being employed as electrocatalysts for direct alcohol fuel cells.  相似文献

A nanoporous (NP) PdCo alloy with uniform structure size and controllable bimetallic ratio was fabricated simply by one‐step mild dealloying of a PdCoAl precursor alloy. The as‐made alloy consists of a nanoscaled bicontinuous network skeleton with interconnected hollow channels that extend in all three dimensions. With a narrow ligament size distribution around 5 nm, the NP PdCo alloy exhibits much higher electrocatalytic activity towards the oxygen‐reduction reaction (ORR) with enhanced specific and mass activities relative to NP Pd and commercial Pt/C catalysts. A long‐term stability test demonstrated that NP PdCo has comparable catalytic durability with less loss of ORR activity and electrochemical surface area than Pt/C. The NP PdCo alloy also shows dramatically enhanced catalytic activity towards formic acid electrooxidation relative to NP Pd and Pd/C catalysts. The as‐made NP PdCo holds great application potential as a promising cathode as well as an anode electrocatalyst in fuel cells with the advantages of superior catalytic performance and easy preparation.  相似文献

Controlling the morphology and composition of nanocatalysts constructed from metals and conductive polymers has attracted attention owing to their great potential for the development of high-efficiency catalysts for various catalytic applications. Herein, a facile synthetic approach for ultrathin-polyaniline-coated Pt–Ni nanooctahedra (Pt-Ni@PANI hybrids) with controllable PANI shell thicknesses is presented. Pt–Ni nanooctahedra/C catalysts enclosed by PANI shells with thicknesses from 0.6 to 2.4 nm were obtained by fine control over the amount of aniline. The various Pt-Ni@PANI hybrids exhibited electrocatalytic activity toward the methanol oxidation reaction that is highly dependent on the thickness of the PANI shell. Pt-Ni@PANI hybrids with the thinnest PANI shells (0.6 nm) showed markedly improved electrocatalytic performance for the methanol oxidation reaction compared with Pt-Ni@PANI hybrids with thicker PANI shells, Pt–Ni nanooctahedra/C, and commercial Pt/C due to synergistic benefits of ultrathin PANI shells and Pt–Ni alloy.  相似文献

Heterogeneous metal interfaces play a key role in determining the mechanism and performance of catalysts. However, in situ characterization of such interfaces at the molecular level is challenging. Herein, two model interfaces, Pd and Pt overlayers on Au single crystals, were constructed. The electronic structures of these interfaces as well as effects of crystallographic orientation on them were analyzed by shell‐isolated nanoparticle‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SHINERS) using phenyl isocyanide (PIC) as a probe molecule. A clear red shift in the frequency of the C≡N stretch (νNC) was observed, which is consistent with X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data and indicates that the ultrathin Pt and Pd layers donate their free electrons to the Au substrates. Furthermore, in situ electrochemical SHINERS studies showed that the electronic effects weaken Pt?C/Pd?C bonds, leading to improved surface activity towards CO electrooxidation.  相似文献

Monodisperse single-crystalline sub-10 nm Pt-Pd nanotetrahedrons (NTs) and nanocubes (NCs) were synthesized with high shape selectivity via one-pot hydrothermal routes with small ions as efficient facet-selective agents. These alloy nanocrystals showed facet-dependent enhanced electrocatalytic activity and durability for methanol electrooxidations with commercial Pt/C catalyst as a reference. The (100)-facet-enclosed Pt-Pd NCs demonstrated a higher activity, whereas the (111)-facet-enclosed Pt-Pd NTs exhibited a better durability.  相似文献

We investigated the oxygen-reduction reaction (ORR) on Pd monolayers on various surfaces and on Pd alloys to obtain a substitute for Pt and to elucidate the origin of their activity. The activity of Pd monolayers supported on Ru(0001), Rh(111), Ir(111), Pt(111), and Au(111) increased in the following order: Pd/Ru(0001) < Pd/Ir(111) < Pd/Rh(111) < Pd/Au(111) < Pd/Pt(111). Their activity was correlated with their d-band centers, which were calculated using density functional theory (DFT). We found a volcano-type dependence of activity on the energy of the d-band center of Pd monolayers, with Pd/Pt(111) at the top of the curve. The activity of the non-Pt Pd2Co/C alloy electrocatalyst nanoparticles that we synthesized was comparable to that of commercial Pt-containing catalysts. The kinetics of the ORR on this electrocatalyst predominantly involves a four-electron step reduction with the first electron transfer being the rate-determining step. The downshift of the d-band center of the Pd "skin", which constitutes the alloy surface due to the strong surface segregation of Pd at elevated temperatures, determined its high ORR activity. Additionally, it showed very high methanol tolerance, retaining very high catalytic activity for the ORR at high concentrations of methanol. Provided its stability is satisfactory, this catalyst might possibly replace Pt in fuel-cell cathodes, especially those of direct methanol oxidation fuel cells (DMFCs).  相似文献

Triangular Ag–Pd alloy nanoframes were successfully synthesized through galvanic replacement by using Ag nanoprisms as sacrificial templates. The ridge thickness of the Ag‐Pd alloy nanoframes could be readily tuned by adjusting the amount of the Pd source during the reaction. These obtained triangular Ag–Pd alloy nanoframes exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity for the methanol oxidation reaction as compared with the commercial Pd/C catalyst due to the alloyed Ag–Pd composition as well as the hollow‐framed structures. This work would be highly impactful in the rational design of future bimetallic alloy nanostructures with high catalytic activity for fuel cell systems.  相似文献

Highly dispersed Pt‐CeO2 hybrids arched on reduced graphene oxide (Pt‐CeO2/rGO) were facilely synthesized by a combination of the reverse micelle technique and a redox reaction without any additional reductant or surfactant. Under a N2 atmosphere, the redox reaction between Ce3+ and Pt2+ occurs automatically in alkaline solution, which results in the formation of Pt‐CeO2/rGO nanocomposites (NCs). The as‐synthesized Pt‐CeO2/rGO NCs exhibit superior catalytic performance relative to that shown by the free Pt nanoparticles, Pt/rGO, Pt‐CeO2 hybrid, and the physical mixture of Pt‐CeO2 and rGO; furthermore, the nanocomposites show significantly better activity than the commercial Pt/C catalyst toward the hydrolysis of ammonia borane (NH3BH3) at room temperature. Moreover, the Pt‐CeO2/rGO NCs have remarkable stability, and 92 % of their initial catalytic activity is preserved even after 10 runs. The excellent activity of the Pt‐CeO2/rGO NCs can be attributed not only to the synergistic structure but also to the electronic effects of the Pt‐CeO2/rGO NCs among Pt, CeO2, and rGO.  相似文献

In a recent study, we demonstrated that Pluronic F127 triblock copolymer plays a critical role in the formation of dendritic Pt nanostructures (L. Wang, Y. Yamauchi, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2009 , 131, 9152–9153). Herein, we expand this concept to produce novel dendritic Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles. In this paper, a very simple, one‐step and efficient route is proposed to directly produce dendritic Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles with high surface area in high yield, which is carried out simply by stirring an aqueous solution that contains K2PtCl4 and Na2PdCl4 binary precursors in the presence of Pluronic F127 block copolymer and ascorbic acid at room temperature within 30 min without the need for any template, seed‐mediated growth, or additive. By simply changing the compositional ratios of the Pt and Pd sources in the precursor solutions, Pt–Pd nanodendrites with various compositions can be easily produced. Because of its unique simplicity, the proposed approach can be considered as a powerful strategy for producing Pt–Pd alloy nanoparticles with unique nanoarchitectures for commercial devices.  相似文献

The catalytic activity and durability are crucial for the development of high-performance electrocatalysts. To design electrocatalysts with excellent electroactivity and durability, the structure and composition are two important guiding principles. In this work, novel Pt/Ni(OH)2–NiOOH/Pd multi-walled hollow nanorod arrays (MHNRAs) are successfully synthesized. The unique MHNRAs provide fast transport and short diffusion paths for electroactive species and high utilization rate of catalysts. Because of the special surface and synergistic effects, the Pt/Ni(OH)2–NiOOH/Pd MHNRA electrocatalysts exhibit high catalytic activity, high durability and superior CO poisoning tolerance for the electrooxidation of formic acid in comparison with Pt@Pd MHNRAs, commercial Pt/C, Pd/C and PtRu/C catalysts.  相似文献
