This work presents a sensitive voltammetric method for determination of curcumin by using a electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) in 100 mM KCl‐10 mM sodium phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.40). The electrochemical behaviors of curcumin at ERGO/GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, suggesting that the ERGO/GCE exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity towards curcumin, compared with bare GCE and GO/GCE electrodes. The electrochemical reaction mechanisms of curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin at the ERGO/GCE were also investigated and discussed systematically. Under physiological condition, the modified electrode showed linear voltammetric response from 0.2 μM to 60.0 μM for curcumin, with the detection limit of 0.1 μm. This work demonstrates that the graphene‐modified electrode is a promising strategy for electrochemical determination of biological important phenolic compounds.

A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified by electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) for subsequent dsDNA immobilization. The interaction of cisplatin with dsDNA was studied at this modified electrode. Quantitative investigations were performed by adsorptive transfer stripping voltammetry (AdTSV) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The morphology and structure of graphene oxide (GO) and ERGO modified GCEs (GO/GCE and ERGO/GCE, respectively) were characterized by UV‐vis, FT‐IR, Raman spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Compared with the bare GCE and the GO/GCE, the ERGO/GCE exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of dsDNA due to guanine and adenine groups, testified by high oxidation peak currents and decreased oxidation potentials. The interaction of micromolar concentrations of cisplatin with surface confined dsDNA was readily detected as inferred from the decrease of the voltammetric oxidation peaks of guanine and adenine. This trend was significantly greater at the ERGO/GCE compared to the GO/GCE. The interaction of cisplatin with dsDNA was also studied in solution phase by AdTSV with detection at the ERGO/GCE.

This work presents a sensitive voltammetric method for determination of folic acid by adsorbing methylene blue onto electrodeposited reduced graphene oxide film modified glassy carbon electrode (MB/ERGO/GCE) in 100 mM KCl‐10 mM sodium phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.40). The surface morphology of the MB/ERGO/GCE modified electrode was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, displays that both MB and ERGO distributed homogeneously on the surface of GCE. The MB/ERGO/GCE modified electrode shows more favorable electron transfer kinetics for potassium ferricyanide and potassium ferrocyanide probe molecules, which are important electroactive compounds, compared with bare GCE, MB/GCE, and ERGO/GCE. The electrochemical behaviors of folic acid at MB/ERGO/GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, suggesting that the modified electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards folic acid compared with other electrodes. Under physiological condition, the MB/ERGO/GCE modified electrode showed a linear voltammetric response from 4.0 μM to 167 μM for folic acid, and with the detection limit of 0.5 μM (S/N=3). The stability, reproducibility and anti‐interference ability of the modified electrode were examined. The developed method has been successfully applied to determination of FA in tablets with a satisfactory recovery from 96 % to 100 %. The work demonstrated that the electroactive MB adsorbing onto graphene modified electrode showed an enhanced electron transfer property and a high resolution capacity to FA.

The proposed chemically modified electrode was graphene oxide that was synthesized via Hummer's method followed by reduction of antimony film by in‐situ electrodeposition. The experimental process could be concluded in three main steps: preparation of antimony film, reduction of analyte ions on the electrode surface and stripping step under the conditions of square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). A simple and rapid approach was developed for the determination of heavy metals simultaneously based on a sequential injection (SI), an automated flow‐based system, coupled with voltammetric method using antimony‐graphene oxide modified screen‐printed carbon electrode (SbF‐GO‐SPCE). The effects of main parameters involved with graphene oxide, antimony and measurement parameters were also investigated. Using SI‐SWASV under the optimal conditions, the proposed electrode platform has exhibited linear range from 0.1 to 1.5 M. Calculated limits of detection were 0.054, 0.026, 0.060, and 0.066 μM for Cd(II), Pb(II), Cu(II) and Hg(II), respectively. In addition, the optimized method has been successfully applied to determine heavy metals in real water samples with acceptable accuracy of 94.29 – 113.42 % recovery.

In this work, we developed a roll‐to‐roll printed poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrene sulphoanate without graphene oxide (GO) (PEDOT/PSS) and with graphene oxide (PEDOT/PSS/GO) plastic films for the electrochemical determination of carbofuran. Both the PEDOT/PSS and PEDOT/PSS/GO plastic films showed electroactivity towards the oxidation of carbofuran. Incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) improves the electrochemical activity of carbofuran and increased its sensitivity. The printed plastic films were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), surface profilometer, four point probe and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The effects of pH, deposition time, deposition potential and film thickness on the oxidation peak current of carbofuran were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, a dynamic linear range of 1 μM–90 μM with a detection limit of 1.0×10?7 M (S/N=3) were obtained. The printed PEDOT/PSS/GO plastic electrode was applied for the determination of carbofuran in vegetable and fruit samples with recoveries between 94.4 and 101.8 %.

In this study, Prussian blue (PB) film on the electroreduced graphene oxide (ERGO)‐modified Au electrode surface (ERGO/PB) is easily prepared by means of cyclic voltammetric technique in the mixture of K3Fe(CN)6 and FeCl3. Its electrochemical behaviors for NADH biosensor are studied. The structural and morphological characters of modified electrode material are analyzed with using of XPS, XRD, Raman, EDS, and SEM techniques. ERGO/PB hybrid nanocomposite for NADH biosensor is exhibited to the higher catalytic effect (linear range from 1.0 to 100 μM, detection limit of 0.23 μM at S/N=3) compared to naked Au, ERGO‐modified Au, and PB‐modified Au electrodes. In addition to, ERGO/PB electrode was used to voltammetric and amperometric detection of H2O2. ERGO/PB electrodes also showed the same behavior as the NADH sensor. This ERGO/PB‐modified electrode supplied a simple, new, and low‐cost route for amperometric sensing of both NADH and H2O2.

A nanocomposite of HKUST‐1 (MOF) and electroreduction graphene oxide (ERGO) is prepared and applied as an electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of paracetamol and dopamine by means of one‐step electrodeposition. The MOF/ERGO composite displays excellent electrochemical catalytic activities towards the paracetamol and dopamine, which is attributed to the synergistic effect of big surface area, porosity and high electrocataytic activity of the MOF and good conductivity of ERGO. The modified electrode could be applied to determine simultaneously paracetamol and dopamine in biochemical samples with wide linear ranges (0.2 μM to 160 μM for paracetamol and 0.2 μM to 300 μM for dopamine) and low detection limits (0.016 μM for paracetamol and 0.013 μM for dopamine). Meanwhile, the proposed sensor still displays high sensitivity, good selectivity and excellent stability.

Electrochemical sensors provide a selective, sensitive and an easy approach to detect hazardous substances such as hydrazine. Herein, we investigate a facile route for the fabrication of a nanostructured composite based on Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) decorated graphene and present its sensing performance towards hydrazine. Our strategy involves electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of graphene oxide (GO) on Au substrate to obtain a uniform layer EPD‐GO, followed by electrochemical reduction of GO to yield high quality graphene ERGO and electrodeposition of monodispersed AuNPs on ERGO (AuNPs/ERGO/Au). The modified AuNPs/ERGO/Au electrode was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) techniques. The sensor exhibited an improved catalytic activity with a peak potential of +87 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) for hydrazine oxidation. The high performance of this hybrid electrode is due to the presence of a synergistic effect between AuNPs and ERGO at their interface. Insights into the mechanism and kinetics of hydrazine oxidation are withdrawn from varying the voltage scan rate as the reaction is fully irreversible and diffusion‐controlled. The proposed hydrazine sensor showed suitability for nanomolar detection (detection limit of 74 nM), high selectivity in the presence of common ions and efficiency for application in water samples.

A novel voltammetric method for the sensitive determination of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) was developed based on a graphene oxide (GO) modified electrode. In acetate buffer solution, GO showed a voltammetric response composed of a sharp anodic peak and a weak cathodic peak. When EDTA was present in the solution, the voltammetric response of GO was suppressed. Under optimum conditions, the response of the GO‐modified electrode was inversely proportional to the concentration of EDTA from 6.0×10?7 to 1.0×10?4 mol/L. Using such a GO‐based voltammetry, the effective photoelectrocatalytic degradation of EDTA over a TiO2 film electrode was evaluated and some influencing factors were investigated.

A commercially available and disposable multiwalled carbon nanotube screen‐printed electrode (CNT‐SPE) was employed to detect and determine vanillin compounds in natural vanilla. The voltammetric behaviour of vanillin at the CNT‐SPE is examined and shown to be a sensitive method for quantifying vanillin. Linear calibration for vanillin in the range of 2.5–750 μM was obtained with a detection limit of 1.03 μM and a quantification limit of 3.44 μM. The developed method comprises a simple sample preparation method and a sensitive electrochemical detection for the quantification of vanillin in vanilla pods and is an easy and simple procedure for manufacturers and consumers.

This study presents a new electrochemical sensor (NiO−ERGO/SPE) for sensitive and selective detection of epinephrine (EPI) on the screen-printed electrode (SPE) which is modified with a nanocomposite film consisting of electrochemically reduced graphene oxide and NiO nanoparticles. After surface functionalization, structural and electrochemical characterization of NiO−ERGO film, DPV signals of NiO−ERGO/SPE towards the oxidation of EPI exhibited a linear correlation in the concentration range of 0.025 μM to 175 μM with a detection limit of 0.015 μM, which reveals NiO−ERGO film is manifested a good electrocatalytic activity for EPI detection compared with the previous reports. The selectivity of NiO−ERGO film was also tested on a very wide scale of possible interferents (ascorbic acid, uric acid, dopamine, lactic acid, phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan, Li+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Zn2+). Moreover, to evaluate the applicability of the proposed sensor for real sample analysis, NiO−ERGO/SPE was successfully utilized for the determination of EPI in pharmaceutical samples.

We describe a simple, green and controllable approach for electrochemical synthesis of a nanocomposite made up from electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) and gold nanoparticles. This material possesses the specific features of both gold nanoparticles and graphene. Its morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy which reveals a homogeneous distribution of gold nanoparticles on the graphene sheets. Cyclic voltammetry was used to evaluate the electrochemical properties of this nanocomposite towards dopamine by modification of it on surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Compared to the bare GCE, the electrode modified with gold nanoparticles, and the electrode modified with ERGO, the one modified with the nanocomposite displays better electrocatalytic activity. Its oxidation peak current is linearly proportional to the concentration of dopamine (DA) in the range from 0.1 to 10?μM, with a detection limit of 0.04?μM (at S/N?=?3). The modified electrode also displays good storage stability, reproducibility, and selectivity.

A novel, sensitive and rapid voltammetric method applied for daclatasvir dihydrochloride (DSV.2HCl) detection in raw material, human plasma and urine using square wave voltammetry at a nano‐screen printed electrode (SPE) based on synthesized zirconium oxide nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs). The attention to zirconium oxide nanoparticle syntheses arises from its likely use in making an electrode material in the electroanalytical process. Anodic stripping square wave voltammetric peaks have been recorded at the optimum conditions of drug solution as pH, scan rate, accumulation time and accumulation potential. Morphology of the used nanoparticles has been performed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission microscope (TEM). ZrO2 NPs were applied to screen printed electrode (ZrO2‐MSPE) giving a new sensor to detect the DSV.2HCl drug. ZrO2 NPs were tested for their electroactivity in improving electrodes sensitivity. The modified electrode has been used for the analysis of DSV.2HCl in spiked serum, spiked urine and pharmaceutical formulation.

A facile and green electrochemical method for the fabrication of three‐dimensional porous nitrogen‐doped graphene (3DNG) modified electrode was reported. This method embraces two consecutive steps: First, 3D graphene/polypyrrole (ERGO/PPy) composite was prepared by electrochemical co‐deposition of graphene and polypyrrole on a gold foil. Subsequently, the ERGO/PPy composite modified gold electrode was annealed at high temperature. Thus 3DNG modified electrode was obtained. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure and morphology of the electrode. The electrode exhibits excellent electroanalytical performance for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). By linear sweep voltammetric measurement, the cathodic peak current was linearly proportional to H2O2 concentration in the range from 0.6 μM to 2.1 mM with a sensitivity of 1.0 μA μM−1 cm−2. The detection limit was ascertained to be 0.3 μM. The anti‐interference ability, reproducibility and stability of the electrode were carried out and the electrode was applied to the detection of H2O2 in serum sample with recoveries from 98.4 % to 103.2 %.

The voltammetric behaviors of uric acid (UA) and L ‐ascorbic acid (L ‐AA) were studied at well‐aligned carbon nanotube electrode. Compared to glassy carbon, carbon nanotube electrode catalyzes oxidation of UA and L ‐AA, reducing the overpotentials by about 0.028 V and 0.416 V, respectively. Based on its differential catalytic function toward the oxidation of UA and L ‐AA, the carbon nanotube electrode resolved the overlapping voltammetric response of UA and L ‐AA into two well‐defined voltammetric peaks in applying both cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), which can be used for a selective determination of UA in the presence of L ‐AA. The peak current obtained from DPV was linearly dependent on the UA concentration in the range of 0.2 μM to 80 μM with a correlation coefficient of 0.997. The detection limit (3δ) for UA was found to be 0.1 μM. Finally, the carbon nanotube electrode was successfully demonstrated as a electrochemical sensor to the determination of UA in human urine samples by simple dilution without further pretreatment.

The current study reports electrocatalytic oxidation of acetaminophen at screen‐printed electrode (SPE) modified with electrogenerated poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) film. Cyclic voltammetric studies show that the SPE/PEDOT electrode lowers overpotentials and improves electrochemical behavior of acetaminophen (ACAP) in aqueous buffer solutions, compared to the bare SPE. Excellent analytical features are achieved, including high sensitivity, low detection limit and satisfactory dynamic range, by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and flow‐injection amperometry (FIA) under optimized conditions. The proposed methods obtain satisfactory results in detection of acetaminophen in two commercial tablets.

A graphene‐based electrochemical sensing platform for sensitive determination of baicalein was constructed by means of pulsed potentiostatic reduction of graphene oxide (GO) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The resulting electrode (ERGO/GCE) was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrochemical behaviors of baicalein at the ERGO/GCE were investigated in detail by CV, chronoamperometry (CA) and chronocoulometry (CC). The experimental results demonstrated that the ERGO/GCE exhibited excellent response toward the redox of baicalein as evidenced by the significant enhancement of redox peak currents (ip) and the decreased peak‐to‐peak separation (ΔEp) in comparison with a bare GCE. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the reduction peak cureent was proportioanal to the baicalein concentration in the range of 5.0 × 10‐9 ~ 5.0 × 10‐7 mol L‐1 with the detection limit of 2.0 × 10‐9 mol L‐1. The proposed method was also applied successfully to determine baicalein in spiked human blood serum samples.

The stimulant sibutramine is an anorexic agent found as an adulterant in natural products and multivitamins supplements used for weight‐loss. In this work, a carbon graphite screen‐printed electrode (SPE‐Gr) with adsorptive stripping pulse differential voltammetry (AdSDPV) is presented for the sensitive and simple detection of sibutramine in slimming tea beverages. The proposed electrochemical method shows a linear working range from 2.0 to 120 μM with a low LOD (0.3 μM) for sibutramine determination in slimming tea samples. The analytical performance of the SPE‐Gr with AdSDPV for sibutramine detection suggests its possible application as an easy, fast and low‐cost method to analyse adulterated tea samples with this stimulant at low levels (<0.1 %).
