Studies of magnetization, magnetoresistance, and magnetic oscillations in semiconductor-multiferroics Eu(1-x)Ce(x)Mn2O5 (x = 0.2-0.25) (ECMO) at temperatures ranging from 5 to 350 K in magnetic fields up to 6 T are presented. It is shown that phase separation and charge carrier self-organization in the crystals give rise to a layered superstructure perpendicular to the c axis. An effect of magnetic field cycling on the superstructure, magnetization, and magnetoresistance is demonstrated. X-ray diffraction studies of ECMO demonstrating the effect of magnetic field on the superstructure are presented. The de Haas-van Alphen magnetization oscillations in high magnetic fields and the temperature-induced magnetic oscillations in a fixed magnetic field are observed at low temperatures. Below 10 K the quantum corrections to magnetization due to the weak charge carrier localization in 2D superlattice layers occur. It is shown that at all the temperatures the Eu(1-x)Ce(x)Mn2O5 magnetic state is dictated by superparamagnetism of isolated ferromagnetic domains.

The magnetic properties and magnetoresistance effect of Y1-xGdxMn6Sn6 (x=0-1) compounds have been investigated by magnetization and resistivity measurements in the applied field range (0-5 T). Compounds with x=0.4-1 display ferrimagnetic behaviours in the whole magnetic ordering temperature range, while compounds with x=0-0.2 display a field-induced metamagnetic transition, and the threshold fields decrease with increasing Gd content. The compounds with x=0.1-0.2 undergo an antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic transition with increasing temperature. The cell-parameter a and c and cell-volume V of compounds (x=0-1) increase with increasing Gd content. It was found that the saturation magnetization M_s of the compounds (x=0.4-1) decreases, while the ordering points of the compounds (x=0-1)increase with increasing Gd content. A large MR effect was observed in the compound with x=0.2, and the maximum absolute value of MR at 5 K under 3 T is close to 19.3%.  相似文献

In this study we report on jumps in the magnetic moment of the hemo-ilmenite solid solution (x)FeTiO(3)-(1-x)Fe(2)O(3) above Fe(III) percolation at low temperature (T<3 K). The first jumps appear at 2.5 K, one at each side of the magnetization loop, and their number increases with decreasing temperature and reaches 5 at T=0.5 K. The jumps occur after field reversal from a saturated state and are symmetrical in the trigger field and intensity with respect to the field axis. Moreover, an increase of the sample temperature by 2.8% at T=2.0 K indicates the energy released after the ignition of the magnetization jump, as the spin-currents generated by the event are dissipated in the lattice. The magnetization jumps are further investigated by Monte Carlo simulations, which show that these effects are a result of magnetic interaction-induced partitioning on a sublattice level.  相似文献

We show that magnetic structures involving partial disorder of local magnetic moments on the Mn atoms in (Ga(1)-(x)Mn(x))As lower the total energy, compared to the case of perfect ferromagnetic ordering, when As defects on the Ga sublattice are present. Such magnetic structures are found to be stable for a range of concentrations of As antisites, and this result accounts for the observed magnetic moments and critical temperatures in (Ga(1)-(x)Mn(x))As. We propose an explanation for the stabilization of the partially disordered magnetic structures and conclude that the magnetization and critical temperatures should increase substantially by reducing the number of As antisite defects.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of single crystals of LiHo(x)Y(1-x)F(4) with x = 16.5% and x = 4.5% were recorded down to 35 mK using a micro-SQUID magnetometer. While this system is considered as the archetypal quantum spin glass, the detailed analysis of our magnetization data indicates the absence of a phase transition, not only in a transverse applied magnetic field, but also without field. A zero-Kelvin phase transition is also unlikely, as the magnetization seems to follow a noncritical exponential dependence on the temperature. Our analysis thus unmasks the true, short-ranged nature of the magnetic properties of the LiHo(x)Y(1-x)F(4) system, validating recent theoretical investigations suggesting the lack of phase transition in this system.  相似文献

Optimization of thin films of small bandwidth manganite, Pr(1-x)Ca(x)MnO3 (for x = 0.1), and their magnetic properties are investigated. Using different pulsed laser deposition (PLD) conditions, several films were deposited from the stoichiometric target material on SrTiO3 (001) substrate and their thorough structural and magnetic characterizations were carried out using x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), SQUID magnetometry and ac susceptibility measurements. A systematic investigation shows that irrespective of the growth temperature (between 550 and 750?°C), all the as-deposited films have twin boundaries and magnetic double phases. Post-annealing in partial or full oxygen pressure removes the extra phase and the twin boundaries. Zero-field-cooled magnetization data show an antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition at around 100 K whereas the field-cooled magnetization data exhibit a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition close to 120 K. However, depending on the oxygen treatments, the saturation magnetization and Curie temperature of the films change significantly. Redistribution of oxygen vacancies due to annealing treatments leading to a change in ratio of Mn3+ and Mn4+ in the films is observed from XPS measurements. Low temperature (below 100 K) dc magnetization of these films shows metamagnetic transition, high coercivity and irreversibility magnetizations, indicating the presence of a spin-glass phase at low temperature. The frequency dependent shift in spin-glass freezing temperature from ac susceptibility measurement confirms the coexistence of spin-glass and ferromagnetic phases in these samples at low temperature.  相似文献

We have synthesized polycrystalline samples of Eu(1-x)K(x)Fe2As2 (x = 0-1) and carried out systematic characterization using x-ray diffraction, ac and dc magnetic susceptibility, and electrical resistivity measurements. A clear signature of the coexistence of a superconducting transition (T(c) = 5.5 K) with spin density wave (SDW) ordering is observed in our underdoped sample with x = 0.15. The SDW transition disappears completely for the x = 0.3 sample and superconductivity arises below 20 K. The superconducting transition temperature Tc increases with increase in the K content and a maximum Tc = 33 K is reached for x = 0.5, beyond which it decreases again. The doping dependent Tx phase diagram is extracted from the magnetic and electrical transport data. It is found that magnetic ordering of Eu moments coexists with the superconductivity up to x = 0.6. The isothermal magnetization data taken at 2 K for the doped samples suggest the 2+ valence state of the Eu ions. We also present the temperature dependence of the lower critical field H(c1) of the superconducting polycrystalline samples. The values of H(c1)(0) obtained for x = 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7 after taking the demagnetization factor into account are 202, 330, and 212 Oe, respectively. The London penetration depth λ(T) calculated from the lower critical field does not show exponential dependence at low temperature, as would be expected for a fully gapped clean s-wave superconductor. In contrast, it shows a T2 power law feature up to T = 0.3Tc, as observed in Ba(1-x)K(x)Fe2As2 and BaFe(2-x)Co(x)As2.  相似文献

The first order martensitic transition in the ferromagnetic shape memory alloy Ni(45)Co(5)Mn(38)Sn(12) is also a magnetic transition and has a large field induced effect. While cooling in the presence of a field this first order magnetic martensite transition is kinetically arrested. Depending on the cooling field, a fraction of the arrested ferromagnetic austenite phase persists down to the lowest temperature as a magnetic glassy state, similar to the one observed in various intermetallic alloys and in half doped manganites. A detailed investigation of this first order ferromagnetic austenite (FM-A) to low magnetization martensite (LM-M) state transition as a function of temperature and field has been carried out by magnetization measurements. Extensive cooling and heating in unequal field (CHUF) measurements and a novel field cooled protocol for isothermal MH measurements (FC-MH) are utilized to investigate the glass like arrested states and show a reverse martensite transition. Finally, we determine a field-temperature (HT) phase diagram of Ni(45)Co(5)Mn(38)Sn(12) from various magnetization measurements which brings out the regions where thermodynamic and metastable states coexist in the HT space, clearly depicting this system as a 'magnetic glass'.  相似文献

Current-driven magnetization reversal in a ferromagnetic semiconductor based (Ga,Mn)As/GaAs/(Ga,Mn)As magnetic tunnel junction is demonstrated at 30 K. Magnetoresistance measurements combined with current pulse application on a rectangular 1.5 x 0.3 microm2 device revealed that magnetization switching occurs at low critical current densities of 1.1-2.2 x 10(5) A/cm2 despite the presence of spin-orbit interaction in the p-type semiconductor system. Possible mechanisms responsible for the effect are discussed.  相似文献

Magnetic and transport properties of Er_{1-x}Sm_xMn_6Ge_6(x=0.2-1.0) have been investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and magnetization measurement. Analysis of the XRD patterns indicates that the samples with x≤0.4 mainly consist of HfFe_6Ge_6-type phase and the samples with 0.6≤x≤1.0 mainly consist of YCo_6Ge_6-type phase (P6/mmm). The lattice constants and the unit cell volume increase with increasing Sm content. The antiferro-ferri-ferromagnetic transitions can be observed with increasing Sm content. The samples with x=0.2 and 0.4 order antiferromagnetically at 420 and 425K, respectively. The samples with x=0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 order from ferri- to ferromagnetically over the whole magnetic ordering temperature range. The corresponding Curie temperatures are 435, 441 and 446K, respectively. The magnetoresistance (MR) isotherms of the sample with x=0.8, measured at various temperatures, are analysed. The magnitude of MR is found to be positive below 55K and gradually increases to a relatively large value of about 5.02% at 5K in a field of 5T as the temperature is lowered. A possible explanation for the positive MR is given.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of a charged spin-1 Bose gas with ferromagnetic interactions are investigated within mean-field theory. It is shown that a competition between paramagnetism, diamagnetism and ferromagnetism exists in this system. It is shown that diamagnetism, being concerned with spontaneous magnetization, cannot exceed ferromagnetism in a very weak magnetic field. The critical value of reduced ferromagnetic coupling of the paramagnetic phase to ferromagnetic phase transition [Formula: see text] increases with increasing temperature. The Landé-factor g is introduced to describe the strength of the paramagnetic effect which comes from the spin degree of freedom. The magnetization density [Formula: see text] increases monotonically with g for fixed reduced ferromagnetic coupling [Formula: see text] as [Formula: see text]. In a weak magnetic field, ferromagnetism makes an immense contribution to the magnetization density. On the other hand, at a high magnetic field, the diamagnetism tends to saturate. Evidence for condensation can be seen in the magnetization density at a weak magnetic field.  相似文献

We report on the magnetic properties of thoroughly characterized Zn(1-x)Co(x)O epitaxial thin films, with low Co concentration, x = 0.003-0.005. Magnetic and EPR measurements, combined with crystal field theory, reveal that isolated Co2+ ions in ZnO possess a strong single ion anisotropy which leads to an "easy plane" ferromagnetic state when the ferromagnetic Co-Co interaction is considered. We suggest that the peculiarities of the magnetization process of this state can be viewed as a signature of intrinsic ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co materials.  相似文献

We study the magnetic ground state in La(2/3)Ca(1/3)Mn(1-x)Ga x O3 manganites, where a quantum critical point (QCP) has been theoretically predicted. The metallic ferromagnetic ground state for low Ga doping breaks down for x > or = 0.11, an insulating state being established at low temperatures. Long-range ferromagnetism coexists with short-range magnetic correlations in the concentration range 0.11 < or = x < or = 0.145 while only the short-range correlations survive for x > or = 0.16. We discuss the implications of such a QCP to the physics of manganites and compare to other QCP systems.  相似文献

We report de Haas-van Alphen effect measurements on CeRu2(Si(1-x)Gex)2 to reveal electronic structure change over the broad range of chemical pressure from x=0.0 to 1.0. It is found that the Fermi surface properties change drastically across the metamagnetic crossover field (B(m)) but vary smoothly with x from those in magnetic fields above B(m) in CeRu2Si2 to those in the ferromagnetic state in CeRu2Ge2. Implications of the present results are discussed in conjunction with the magnetic phase diagram.  相似文献

A study has been carried out of the magnetization of a layered system consisting of two exchange-coupled easy-axis ferromagnetic layers separated by a nonmagnetic spacer and having mutually perpendicular anisotropy axes. It is shown that the magnetization of such a system can undergo stepwise decrease with increasing magnetic field. The field dependence of the magnetization has a bifurcation point. The magnetization orientation can exhibit jumps in excess of 90° depending on the angle of magnetic-field orientation. Fiz. Tverd. Tela (St. Petersburg) 41, 660–664 (April 1999)  相似文献

The iron nitridometalates Li2[(Li(1-x)Fe(I)(x))N] display ferromagnetic ordering and spin freezing. Large magnetic moments up to 5.0mu(B)/Fe are found in the magnetization. In M?ssbauer effect studies huge hyperfine magnetic fields up to 696 kOe are observed at specific Fe sites. These extraordinary fields and moments originate in an unusual ligand field splitting for those Fe species leading [within local spin density approximation (LSDA)] to a localized orbitally degenerate doublet. Including spin-orbit interaction and strong intra-atomic electron correlation (LDA+SO+U) gives rise to a large orbital momentum.  相似文献

We investigate the influence of Sb-doping on the martensitic transformation and magnetocaloric effect in Mn_(50)Ni_(40)Sn_(10-x)Sb_x(x = 1, 2, 3, and 4) alloys. All the prepared samples exhibit a B2-type structure with the space group F m3 m at room temperature. The substitution of Sb increases the valence electron concentration and decreases the unit cell volume. As a result, the magnetostructural transformation shifts rapidly towards higher temperatures as x increases. The changes in magnetic entropy under different magnetic field variations are explored around this transformation. The isothermal magnetization curves exhibit typical metamagnetic behavior, indicating that the magnetostructural transformation can be induced by a magnetic field. The tunable martensitic transformation and magnetic entropy changes suggest that Mn_(50)Ni_(40)Sn_(10-x)Sb_x alloys are attractive candidates for applications in solid-state refrigeration.  相似文献

The effect of Al substitution for Fe on crystal structure, magnetostriction and spontaneous magnetostriction, anisotropy and spin reorientation of a series of polycrystalline Tb0.3Dy0.7(Fe1-xAlx)1.95 alloys (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35) at room temperature and 77 K was investigated systematically. It was found that the primary phase of Tb0.3Dy0.7(Fe1-xAlx)1.95 is the MgCu2-type cubic Laves phase structure when x < 0.4 and the lattice constant a of Tb0.3Dy0.7(Fe1-xAlx)1.95 increases approximately and monotonically with the increase of x. The substitution of Al leads to the fact that the magnetostriction ( inceases slightly in a low magnetic field (H ≤ 40 kA/m), but decreases sharply and is easily close to saturation in a high applied field as x increases, showing that a small amount of Al substitution is beneficial to a decrease in the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. It was also found that the spontaneous magnetostriction (ζ)111 decreases greatly with x increasing. The analysis of the M(o)ssbauer spectra indicated that the easy magnetization direction in the {110} plane deviates slightly from the main axis of symmetry with the changes of composition and temperature, namely spin reorientation. A small amount of non-magnetic phase exists for x = 0.15 in Tb0.3Dy0.7(Fe1-xAlx)1.95 alloys and the alloys become paramagnetic for x > 0.15 at room temperture, but at 77 K the alloys still remain magnetic phase even for x = 0.2. At room temperature and 77 K, the hyperfine field decreases and the isomer shifts increase with Al concentration increasing.  相似文献
