The losses of methyl and ethyl through the intermediacy of the [2-butanone]+˙ ion are shown to be the dominant metastable decomposition of 14 of 19 [C4H8O]+˙ ions examined. The ions that decompose via the [2-butanone]+˙ structure include ionized aldehydes, unsaturated and cyclic alcohols and enolic ions. [Cyclic ether]+˙ [cyclopropylmethanol]+˙ and [2-methyl-1-propen-1-ol]+˙ ions do not decompose through ionized 2-butanone. The rearrangements of various [C4H8O]+˙ ions the the 2-butanone ion were investigated by means of deuterium labeling. Those pathways involve up to eight steps. Ions with the oxygen on the end carbon rearrange to a common structure or mixture of structures. Those ions which ultimately rearrange to the [2-butanone]+˙ ion then undergo oxygen shifts from the terminal to the second and third carbons at about equal rates. However, this oxygen shift does not precede the losses of water and ethylene. Losses of water and ethylene were unimportant for ions with the oxygen initially on the second carbon. Ionized n-butanal and cyclobutanol, but not other [C4H8O]+˙ ions, undergo reversible hydrogen exchange between the oxygen and the terminal carbon. Rearrangement of ionized n-butanal to the [cyclobutanol]+˙ ion is postulated.  相似文献

The isomeric ions [H2NC(H)O]+˙, [H2NCOH]+˙, [H3CNO]+˙ and [H2CNOH]+˙ were examined in the gas phase by mass spectrometry. Ab initio molecular orbital theory was used to calculate the relative stabilities of [H2NC(H)O]+˙, [H2NCOH]+˙, [H3NCO]+˙ and their neutral counterparts. Theory predicted [H2NC(H)O]+˙ to be the most stable ion. [H2NCOH]+˙ ions were generated via a 1,4-hydrogen transfer in [H2NC(O)OCH3]+˙, [H2NC(O)C(O)OH]+˙ and [H2NC(O)CH2CH3]+˙. Its metastable dissociation takes place via [H3NCO]+˙ with the isomerization as the rate-determining step. [H2CNOH]+˙ undergoes a rate-determining isomerization into [H3CNO]+˙ prior to metastable fragmentation. Neutralization-reionization mass spectrometry was used to identify the neutral counterparts of these [H3,C,N,O]+˙ ions as stable species in the gas phase. The ion [H3NCO]+˙ was not independently generated in these experiments; its neutral counterpart was predicted by theory to be only weakly bound.  相似文献

Charge stripping (collisional ionization) mass spectra are reported for isomeric [C5H8]+˙ and [C3H6]+˙ ions. The results provide the first method for adequately quantitatively determining the structures and abundances of these species when they are generated as daughter ions. Thus, loss of H2O from the molecular ions of cyclopentanol and pentanal is shown to produce mixtures of ionized penta-1,3- and -1,4-dienes. Pent-1-en-3-ol generates [penta-1,3-diene]+˙. [C3H6]+˙ ions from ionized butane, methylpropane and 2-methylpropan-1-ol are shown to have the [propene]+˙ structure, whereas [cyclopropane]+˙ is produced from ionized tetrahydrofuran, penta-1,3-diene and pent-1-yne.  相似文献

Collisionally activated decomposition (CA) spectra of [C4H8O]+˙ ions and the products of their metastable decompositions are used to refine a previously presented picture of the reactions of [C4H8O]+˙ ions. Metastable [C4H8O]+˙ isomers predominantly rearrange to the 2-butanone ion and decompose by loss of methyl and ethyl, although up to 38% of the methyl losses take place by other pathways to form \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm{CH}}_{\rm{2}} = {\rm{CHCH = }}\mathop {\rm{O}}\limits^{\rm{ + }} {\rm{H}}{\rm{.}} $\end{document} . The CA spectra of many of the [C4H8O]+˙ ions with the oxygen on the first carbon are very similar, consistent with those ions isomerizing largely to common structures before or after collision. However, several of these ions have unique CA spectra, so they must remain structurally distinct from the majority of the [C4H8O]+˙ ions below energies required for decomposition. The CA spectra of ions with the oxygen on the second carbon are distinct from those of ions with the oxygen on the first carbon, so there is limited interconversion of the non-decomposing forms of the two types of ions. A potential energy diagram for the reactions of metastable [C4H8O]+˙ ions is constructed from appearance energy measurements. As would be expected, the relative importances of most of the [C4H8O]+˙ isomerizations seem to be inversely related to the activation energies for those processes. Some parallels between the isomerizations of [C4H8O]+˙ ions and those of related ions are pointed out.  相似文献

The translational energy, T, released during the loss of the angular 18- and 19-methyl groups both from metastable molecular ions and metastable [M ? H2O]+ and [M ? 2H2O]+ ions, in C(5)-unsaturated mono-and di-hydroxy steroids, as well as in their 19-nor and deuterated analogues bearing the label in the 19-methyl group, has been measured. It was found that, while the T values for the 19-CH3 loss, following the dehydration of the molecular ions, are increased substantially when compared to those for the same loss from the molecular ions, the T values for the 18-CH3 loss are increased much more moderately. Nevertheless, the amounts of translational energy released in the [M ? H2O]+˙ ? 18-CH3˙ and [M ? 2 H2O]+˙ ? 18-CH3˙ transitions are still higher than those found for the respective 19-methyl loss, in accordance with the general rule established recently.  相似文献

The [C4H6O] ion of structure [CH2?CHCH?CHOH] (a) is generated by loss of C4H8 from ionized 6,6-dimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ol. The heat of formation ΔHf of [CH2?CHCH?CHOH] was estimated to be 736 kJ mol?1. The isomeric ion [CH2?C(OH)CH?CH2] (b) was shown to have ΔHf, ? 761 kJ mol?1, 54 kJ mol?1 less than that of its keto analogue [CH3COCH?CH2]. Ion [CH2?C(OH)CH?CH2] may be generated by loss of C2H4 from ionized hex-1-en-3-one or by loss of C4H8 from ionized 4,4-dimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ol. The [C4H6O] ion generated by loss of C2H4 from ionized 2-cyclohexen-1-ol was shown to consist of a mixture of the above enol ions by comparing the metastable ion and collisional activation mass spectra of [CH2?CHCH?CHOH] and [CH2?C(OH)CH?CH2] ions with that of the above daughter ion. It is further concluded that prior to their major fragmentations by loss of CH3˙ and CO, [CH2?CHCH?CHOH]+˙ and [CH2?C(OH)CH?CH2] do not rearrange to their keto counterparts. The metastable ion and collisional activation characteristics of the isomeric allenic [C4H6O] ion [CH2?C?CHCH2OH] are also reported.  相似文献

Tertiary α-carbomethoxy-α,α-dimethyl-methyl cations a have been generated by electron impact induced fragmentation from the appropriately α-substituted methyl isobutyrates 1–4. The destabilized carbenium ions a can be distinguished from their more stable isomers protonated methyl methacrylate c and protonated methyl crotonate d by MIKE and CA spectra. The loss of I and Br˙ from the molecular ions of 1 and 2, respectively, predominantly gives rise to the destabilized ions a, whereas loss of Cl˙ from [3]+ ˙ results in a mixture of ions a and c. The loss of CH3˙ from [4]+˙ favours skeletal rearrangement leading to ions d. The characteristic reactions of the destabilized ions a are the loss of CO and elimination of methanol. The loss of CO is associated by a very large KER and non-statistical kinetic energy release (T50 = 920 meV). Specific deuterium labelling experiments indicate that the α-carbomethoxy-α,α-dimethyl-methyl cations a rearrange via a 1,4-H shift into the carbonyl protonated methyl methacrylate c and eventually into the alkyl-O protonated methyl methacrylate before the loss of methanol. The hydrogen rearrangements exhibit a deuterium isotope effect indicating substantial energy barriers between the [C5H9O2]+ isomers. Thus the destabilized carbenium ion a exists as a kinetically stable species within a potential energy well.  相似文献

By combining results from a variety of mass spectrometric techniques (metastatle ion, collisional activation, collision-induced dissociative ionization, neutralization–reionization spectrometry and appearance energy measurements) and the classical method of isotopic labelling, a unified mechanism is proposed for the complex unimolecular chemistry of ionized 1,2-propanediol. The key intermediates involved are the stable hydrogen-bridged radical cations [CH2?C(H)? H…?O…?O(H)CH3]+˙, which were generated independently from [4-methoxy, 1-butanol]+˙ (loss of C2H4) and [1-methoxyglycerol]+˙ (loss of CH2O), [CH3? C?O…?H…?O(H)CH3]+˙ and the related ion-dipole complex [CH2?C(OH)CH3/H2O]+˙. The latter species serves as the precursor for the loss of CH3˙ and in this reaction the same non-ergodic behaviour is observed as in the loss of CH3˙ from the ionized enol of acetone.  相似文献

Charge-stripping spectra have been used to differentiate ionized cyclopentadiene from its acyclic isomers. The minimum amounts of translational energy lost during the charge-stripping processes and the relative charge-stripping efficiencies, which are also structurally important parameters, have been measured for these ionic species. [C5H6]+˙ ions, formed by dissociative ionization of various precursors in the ion source are found, usually, to be a mixture of cyclic and acyclic ions. In contrast, [C5H6]+˙ ions, derived from the dissociation of metastable molecular ions from a series of organic compounds, have the cyclopentadienyl structure. This structure was confirmed by collision-induced dissociation of ions formed in the first field-free region of a triple sector mass spectrometer.  相似文献

Present results demonstrate that α,β-shifts of the functional group carbon strongly dominate β,α-methyl shifts in [C4H8O]+˙ and [C5H10O]+˙ ions, paralleling observations of others on methyl isobutyrate ions.  相似文献

The elimination of water from metastable molecular ions of epimeric hydroxy steroids of the Δ4-3-keto series containing a hydroxyl group in the conformationally rigid rings C and D has been studied. The measurement of translational energy released during the loss of water and collision-induced decomposition (CID) mass-analysed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) spectrometry were the techniques used. It was found that it is possible to determine the configuration of the hydroxy steroids of this series on the basis of the CID MIKE spectra of [M ? H2O] ions formed by dehydration of metastable molecular ions in the first field-free region of a reversed geometry double-focusing mass spectrometer.  相似文献

It is shown from a detailed examination of first field free region metastable peak shapes that the molecular ion of the methyl ester of acrylic acid rearranges into 2- and 3-butenoic acid ions prior to metastable fragmentations involving the losses of H2O, CH3˙ and CO. The key intermediate ion in this ester-acid isomerization is shown to be the enol form of ionized γ-butyrolactone. The C-5 homologues methylmethacrylate and ethylacrylate display a similar mechanism for H2O loss, but the loss of CH3˙ shows additional mechanistic complexities. It was shown from the metastable peak shapes of 13C and deuterium labelled compounds that the larger part of the methyl loss does not occur from acid type ions, but directly from methyl substituted enol ions of γ-butyrolactone. The mechanistic proposals also account for the presence of a pronounced loss of CH3˙ from the isomeric ester methylcrotonate and the absence of H2O loss in both methylcrotonate and the methyl ester of 3-butenoic acid.  相似文献

Three new [C2H6O]+˙ ions have been generated in the gas phase by appropriate dissociative ionizations and characterized by means of their metastable and collisionally induced fragmentations. The heats of formation, ΔHf0, of the two ions which were assigned the structures [CH3O(H)CH2]+˙ and [CH3CHOH2]+˙ could not be measured. The third isomer, to which the structure \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 2} = \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm .} {\rm H} \cdot \cdot \cdot \mathop {\rm H}\limits^ + \cdot \cdot \cdot {\rm OH}_{\rm 2} $\end{document} is tentatively assigned, was measured to have ΔHf0 = 732±5 kJ mol?1, making it the [C2H6O]+˙ isomer of lowest experimental heat of formation. It was found that the exothermic ion–radical recombinations [CH2OH]++CH3˙→[CH3O(H)CH2]+˙ and \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm CH}_{\rm 3} \mathop {\rm C}\limits^{\rm + } {\rm HOH + H}^{\rm .} $\end{document}→[CH3CHOH2]+˙ have large energy barriers, 1.4 and ?0.9 eV, respectively, whereas the recombinations yielding [CH3CH2OH]+˙ have little or none.  相似文献

Dissociative ionization of 1,2-epoxy n-alkanes gives rise to abundant [C4H7O]+ ions of structure [CH3OCHCHCH2]+. This conclusion is drawn from metastable ion analysis and from collisional activation spectra. This fragmentation involves the C? C ring opening and a 1,4-H migration leading to the corresponding enol ether [CH3OCHCHCH2R]+. precursor of [CH3OCHCHCH2]+ fragment. The same isomerization scheme applies to 1,2-epoxy methyl substituted alkanes and 2,3-epoxy n-alkanes.  相似文献

Mass spectra and ion kinetic energy (IKE) spectra of o-, m- and p-d1 ethyl benzoates have given further information on the loss of OH˙ and OD˙ from the [M ? C2H4]+˙ ions. The ‘metastable peaks’ in the mass spectra give information on fragmentations in the field-free region following the electric sector; the IKE spectra give information on fragmentations in the field-free region preceding this sector. Transfer of hydrogen and deuterium from the ortho-positions on the ring to the carboxyl group can occur, but scrambling of ring hydrogens does not take place. A sample of o-d1 benzoic acid was also examined and confirmed that similar transfer reactions occur in this compound too.  相似文献

A study of the chemical ionization (CI) and collisional activation (CA) spectra of a number of α, β-unsaturated nitriles has revealed that the even-electron ions such as [MH]+ and [MNH4]+ produced under chemical ionization undergo decomposition by radical losses also. This results in the formation of M +˙ ions from both [MH]+ and [MNH4]+ ions. In the halogenated molecules losses of X˙ and HX compete with losses of H˙ and HCN. Elimination of X˙ from [MH]+ is highly favoured in the bromoderivative. The dinitriles undergo a substitution reaction in which one of the CN groups is replaced with a hydrogen radical and the resulting mononitrile is ionized leading to [M ? CN + 2H]+ under CI(CH4) or [M ? CN + H + NH4] and [M ? CN + H + N2H7]+ under CI(NH3) conditions.  相似文献

The photodissociation of [C4H5N]+˙ ions generated by ionization of pyrrole (1), allyl cyanide (2), crotonitrile (3), cyclopropyl cyanide (4) and methacrylonitrile (5) has been studied using ion beam techniques. At least four different stable ion structures have been distinguished, which is in contrast to earlier CAD studies. In addition it has been shown that [C2H3N]+˙ fragment ions formed by dissociative ionization of the same precursors have structures which are distinct from that of ionized acetonitrile.  相似文献

The loss of methyl from unstable, metastable and collisionally activated [CH2?CH? C(OH)?CH2]+˙ ions (1+˙) was examined by means of deuterium and 13C labelling, appearance energy measurements and product identification. High-energy, short-lived 1+˙ lose methyl groups incorporating the original enolic methene (C(1)) and the hydroxyl hydrogen atom (H(0)). The eliminations of C(1)H(1)H(1)H(4) and C(4)H(4)H(4)H(0) are less frequent in high-energy ions. Metastable 1+˙ eliminate mainly C(1)H(1)H(1)H(4), the elimination being accompanied by incomplete randomization of the five carbon-bound hydrogen atoms. The resulting [C3H3O]+ ions have been identified as the most stable CH2?CH? CO+ species. The appearance energy for the loss of methyl from 1 was measured as AE[C3H3O]+ = 10.47 ± 0.05 eV. The critical energy for 1+˙ → [C3H3O]+ + CH3˙ is assessed as Ec ? 173 kJ mol?1. Reaction mechanisms are proposed and discussed.  相似文献

[C8H6O]+˙ ions with o-quinonoid ketene, benzocyclobutenone, phenyl ketene and benzofuran structures have been generated from various precursors. Their collisionally induced decompositions in both field free regions of a double focusing mass spectrometer with so-called reversed geometry have been studied using mass analysed ion kinetic energy scans and B/E linked scans. In both cases the abovementioned [C8H6O]+˙ structures can be distinguished–except the benzocyclobutenone ion which gives very similar spectra to the o-quinonoid ion–on the basis of the intensity ratios [m/z 77]/[m/z 76] and [m/z 104]/[m/z 102]. The stable [C8H6O]+˙ ions generated from the molecular ions of 7 -phenylbicyclo[3.1.1]heptan-6-one appear to have the phenyl ketene structure, as was suspected from previous kinetic energy release measurements.  相似文献

The [C4H70]+ ions [CH2?CH? C(?OH)CH3]+ (1), [CH3CH?CH? C(?OH)H]+ (2), [CH2?C(CH3)C(?OH)H]+ (3), [Ch3CH2CH2C?O]+ (4) and [(CH3)2CHC?O]+ (5) have been characterized by their collision-induced dissociation (CID) mass spectra and charge stripping mass spectra. The ions 1–3 were prepared by gas phase protonation of the relevant carbonyl compounds while 4 and 5 were prepared by dissociative electron impact ionization of the appropriate carbonyl compounds. Only 2 and 3 give similar spectra and are difficult to distinguish from each other; the remaining ions can be readily characterized by either their CID mass spectra or their charge stripping mass spectra. The 2-pentanone molecular ion fragments by loss of the C(1) methyl and the C(5) methyl in the ratio 60:40 for metastable ions; at higher internal energies loss of the C(1) methyl becomes more favoured. Metastable ion characteristics, CID mass spectra and charge stripping mass spectra all show that loss of the C(1) methyl leads to formation of the acyl ion 4, while loss of the C(5) methyl leads to formation of protonated vinyl methyl ketone (1). These results are in agreement with the previously proposed potential energy diagram for the [C5H10O]+˙ system.  相似文献
