Bragg gratings have been written in germanium-doped optical fibers that have been treated to remove the UV absorption bands associated with oxygen-deficient defects. When one is using high-intensity 193-nm light from an ArF excimer laser to fabricate the gratings, the refractive index increases and the grating transmission spectra are similar to those obtained in standard (untreated) fiber.  相似文献

本文介绍了 2 48nm、Kr F准分子激光经过石英相位掩膜版的空间调制 ,在载氢增敏处理过的通信光纤与 B/Ge光纤上分别写入光致折变布拉格光栅的实验研究。经实验测定 ,在光栅布拉格波长上 (λH2 =15 46 .45 5 4nm ,λB/Ge=15 45 .15 5 nm) ,两种光栅反射率均大于 99% ,3d B带宽分别为 0 .12 9nm和 0 .182 nm。经比较 ,B/ Ge光纤比氢载光纤具有更好的光敏性和热稳定性  相似文献

This Letter presents simulation and experimental results that explore bending insensitivity of fiber Bragg gratings in suspended-core optical fibers. The implementation of thin silica bridge in the fibers enhances index contrast of the fiber core and reduces bending-induced strain transfer to the fiber core. This fiber design lead to a reduction of over 7 times in strain-induced fiber Bragg grating resonant peak shifts in the suspended-core fiber compared with that in standard telecommunication fiber, and an 0.14 dB bending loss at a bending radius of 6.35 mm.  相似文献

We report the observation of abnormal spectral evolution in regenerated fiber Bragg gratings in hydrogenated B-Ge-codoped and standard telecom fiber with UV overexposure. The behavior of this new type of regenerated grating, which we have designated type IA, contrasts with that of the previously reported type IIA grating in nonhydrogenated fiber by exhibiting a large redshift in Bragg wavelength with increasing exposure of as much as 18 nm from a strong (16-dB) regenerated grating in B-Ge fiber.  相似文献

We report what is believed to be the first demonstration of optical fiber gratings written in photonic crystal fibers. The fiber consists of a germanium-doped photosensitive core surrounded by a hexagonal periodic air-hole lattice in a silica matrix. The spectra of these gratings allow for a detailed characterization of the fiber. In particular, the gratings facilitate coupling to higher-order leaky modes. We show that the spatial distribution and the effective index of these modes are determined largely by the design of the lattice and that the grating spectra are unaffected by the refractive index surrounding the fiber. We describe these measurements and corresponding simulations and discuss their implications for the understanding of such air-hole structures.  相似文献

Fiber Bragg gratings were written in thulium-doped and undoped single-mode ZBLAN fibers by focusing femtosecond laser pulses on the fiber core through a phase mask. Maximum index modulation of the order of 1 x 10(-3) was induced in both types of fibers. Measurements of the transverse refractive index changes across the core and cladding regions indicate that the grating formation originates from a negative index change.  相似文献

We report about fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) inscribed in two different types of small-core Ge-doped photonic crystal fibers with a UV laser. Sensing properties of the FBGs were systematically investigated by means of demonstrating the responses of Bragg wavelengths to temperature, strain, bending, and transverse-loading. The Bragg wavelength of the FBGs shifts toward longer wavelengths with increasing temperature, tensile strain, and transverse-loading. Moreover, the bending and transverse-loading properties of the FBGs are sensitive to the fiber orientations. The reasonable analyses for these sensing properties also are presented.  相似文献

The behavior of the concentration of photoinduced color centers in Ge-SiO(2) optical fibers was compared with that of the index modulation associated with fiber Bragg gratings (FBG's) written in the same fibers. We find that the fluence dependence of the photoinduced Ge E? center, its thermal annealing behavior, and its reaction with H(2) are similar to that of the index modulation generated in both H(2)-loaded and unloaded Ge-SiO(2) fibers. The much higher photosensitivity of H(2)-loaded Ge-SiO(2) fibers is attributed to the much higher formation efficiency of Ge E? centers, with an additional contribution from GeH. A diamagnetic structure, possibly densification, is also found to contribute to the index modulation of FBG's.  相似文献

Optical gap solitons, which exist due to a balance of nonlinearity and dispersion due to a Bragg grating, can couple to acoustic waves through electrostriction. This gives rise to a new species of "gap-acoustic" solitons (GASs), for which we find exact analytic solutions. The GAS consists of an optical pulse similar to the optical gap soliton, dressed by an accompanying phonon pulse. Close to the speed of sound, the phonon component is large. In subsonic (supersonic) solitons, the phonon pulse is a positive (negative) density variation. Coupling to the acoustic field damps the solitons' oscillatory instability, and gives rise to a distinct instability for supersonic solitons, which may make the GAS decelerate and change direction, ultimately making the soliton subsonic.  相似文献

In magneto-optical gratings the magnetic dipolar coupling superimposed on the electric dipolar one introduces nonreciprocity and spectral discrimination between circular polarization states, measured by a Zeeman-like splitting of the photonic Bragg resonances. In a nonlinear regime the degree of nonreciprocity is modified by the photoinduced interplay of these splittings and their Stark-like shifts. We predict novel magneto-optical modulation schemes for switching between orthogonal circular polarization states of transmission or reflection operated by means of an intense linearly polarized optical pulse train.  相似文献

We present simulation and experimental results of fiber Bragg grating responses to transverse stress in microstructure fibers. The grating wavelength shifts and peak splits are studied as a function of external load and fiber orientation. Both simulation and measurement results indicate that the sensitivity of grating sensors to the transverse stress can be enhanced by a factor of eight in a two-hole fiber over that in a standard fiber.  相似文献

We propose new design parameters for index-guiding holey fiber that can provide flexibility in defect and lattice design and adiabatic mode transformation capability. The new defect consists of a central air hole and a germanosilicate ring surrounding it, which results in a large-area annulus mode profile, low splice losses to standard fiber, 0.7 dB at 1.55 microm, and chromatic dispersion with a low slope, 0.002 ps/km nm2.  相似文献

We report what is to our knowledge the first characterization at high temperatures of long-period fiber gratings written in Ge-free air-silica microstructure fiber. The gratings written with the electric-arc technique suffer a low shift of the resonance wavelengths when the temperature is increased from 20 degrees C to 1200 degrees C. This shift is studied and compared with that of a long-period fiber grating written in a standard single-mode fiber by the same technique. Good thermal stability of the grating and of the fiber after annealing at 1200 degrees C for 1 h is demonstrated.  相似文献

We have computed the contribution of UV-light-induced densification to the refractive-index modulation of fiber Bragg gratings. Our results confirm that, for strong gratings written in Ge-doped silica fibers with 248-nm UV light, density changes account for a major part of the photosensitivity effect.  相似文献
