Let f:AB be a covering map. We say that A has e filtered ends with respect to f (or B) if, for some filtration {Kn} of B by compact subsets, Af−1(Kn) “eventually” has e components. The main theorem states that if Y is a (suitable) free H-space, if K<H has infinite index, and if Y has a positive finite number of filtered ends with respect to H?Y, then Y has one filtered end with respect to K?Y. This implies that if G is a finitely generated group and K<H<G are subgroups each having infinite index in the next, then implies that , where is the number of filtered ends of a pair of groups in the sense of Kropholler and Roller.  相似文献

We study the effects of subgroup distortion in the wreath products , where A is finitely generated abelian. We show that every finitely generated subgroup of has distortion function equivalent to some polynomial. Moreover, for A infinite, and for any polynomial lk, there is a 2-generated subgroup of having distortion function equivalent to the given polynomial. Also, a formula for the length of elements in arbitrary wreath product easily shows that the group has distorted subgroups, while the lamplighter group has no distorted (finitely generated) subgroups. In the course of the proof, we introduce a notion of distortion for polynomials. We are able to compute the distortion of any polynomial in one variable over Z,R or C.  相似文献

Let Γ be a countable locally finite graph and let H(Γ) and H+(Γ) denote the homeomorphism group of Γ with the compact-open topology and its identity component. These groups can be embedded into the space of all closed sets of Γ×Γ with the Fell topology, which is compact. Taking closure, we have natural compactifications and . In this paper, we completely determine the topological type of the pair and give a necessary and sufficient condition for this pair to be a (Q,s)-manifold. The pair is also considered for simple examples, and in particular, we find that has homotopy type of RP3. In this investigation we point out a certain inaccuracy in Sakai-Uehara's preceding results on for finite graphs Γ.  相似文献

Gentzen’s classical sequent calculus has explicit structural rules for contraction and weakening. They can be absorbed (in a right-sided formulation) by replacing the axiom P,¬P by Γ,P,¬P for any context Γ, and replacing the original disjunction rule with Γ,A,B implies Γ,AB.This paper presents a classical sequent calculus which is also free of contraction and weakening, but more symmetrically: both contraction and weakening are absorbed into conjunction, leaving the axiom rule intact. It uses a blended conjunction rule, combining the standard context-sharing and context-splitting rules: Γ,Δ,A and Γ,Σ,B implies Γ,Δ,Σ,AB. We refer to this system as minimal sequent calculus. We prove a minimality theorem for the propositional fragment : any propositional sequent calculus S (within a standard class of right-sided calculi) is complete if and only ifS contains (that is, each rule of is derivable in S). Thus one can view as a minimal complete core of Gentzen’s .  相似文献

We consider non-white Wishart ensembles , where X is a p×N random matrix with i.i.d. complex standard Gaussian entries and Σ is a covariance matrix, with fixed eigenvalues, close to the identity matrix. We prove that the largest eigenvalue of such random matrix ensembles exhibits a universal behavior in the large-N limit, provided Σ is “close enough” to the identity matrix. If not, we identify the limiting distribution of the largest eigenvalues, focusing on the case where the largest eigenvalues almost surely exit the support of the limiting Marchenko-Pastur's distribution.  相似文献

We study the structure constants of the class algebra of the wreath products Γn associated to an arbitrary finite group Γ with respect to the basis of conjugacy classes. We show that a suitable filtration on gives rise to the graded ring with non-negative integer structure constants independent of n (some of which are computed), which are then encoded in a Farahat-Higman ring . The real conjugacy classes of Γ come to play a distinguished role and are treated in detail in the case when Γ is a subgroup of . The above results provide new insight to the cohomology rings of Hilbert schemes of points on a quasi-projective surface X.  相似文献

We study the following properties about primary decomposition over a Noetherian ring R: (1) For finitely generated modules NM and a given subset X={P1,P2,…,Pr}⊆Ass(M/N), we define an X-primary component of N?M to be an intersection Q1Q2∩?∩Qr for some Pi-primary components Qi of NM and we study the maximal X-primary components of NM; (2) We give a proof of the ‘linear growth’ property of Ext and Tor, which says that for finitely generated modules N and M, any fixed ideals I1,I2,…,It of R and any fixed integer iN, there exists a kN such that for any there exists a primary decomposition of 0 in (or 0 in ) such that every P-primary component Q of that primary decomposition contains (or ), where .  相似文献

The groups Gk,1 of Richard Thompson and Graham Higman can be generalized in a natural way to monoids, that we call Mk,1, and to inverse monoids, called ; this is done by simply generalizing bijections to partial functions or partial injective functions. The monoids Mk,1 have connections with circuit complexity (studied in other papers). Here we prove that Mk,1 and are congruence-simple for all k. Their Green relations J and D are characterized: Mk,1 and are J-0-simple, and they have k−1 non-zero D-classes. They are submonoids of the multiplicative part of the Cuntz algebra Ok. They are finitely generated, and their word problem over any finite generating set is in P. Their word problem is coNP-complete over certain infinite generating sets.  相似文献

A function f:V(G)→{+1,0,-1} defined on the vertices of a graph G is a minus total dominating function if the sum of its function values over any open neighborhood is at least 1. The minus total domination number of G is the minimum weight of a minus total dominating function on G. By simply changing “{+1,0,-1}” in the above definition to “{+1,-1}”, we can define the signed total dominating function and the signed total domination number of G. In this paper we present a sharp lower bound on the signed total domination number for a k-partite graph, which results in a short proof of a result due to Kang et al. on the minus total domination number for a k-partite graph. We also give sharp lower bounds on and for triangle-free graphs and characterize the extremal graphs achieving these bounds.  相似文献

A group G?Sym(N) is cofinitary if g has finitely many fixed points for every gG except the identity element. In this paper, we discuss the definability of maximal cofinitary groups and some related structures. More precisely, we show the following two results:
(1)
Assuming V=L, there is a set of permutations on N which generates a maximal cofinitary group.
(2)
Assuming V=L, there is a mad permutation family in Sym(N).

Let G be a finite group, k a commutative ring upon which G acts. For every subgroup H of G, the trace (or norm) map is defined. is onto if and only if there exists an element xH such that . We will show that the existence of xP for every subgroup P of prime order determines the existence of xG by exhibiting an explicit formula for xG in terms of the xP, where P varies over prime order subgroups. Since is onto if and only if is, where gG is an arbitrary element, we need to take only one P from each conjugacy class. We will also show why a formula with less factors does not exist, and show that the existence or non-existence of some of the xP’s (where we consider only one P from each conjugacy class) does not affect the existence or non-existence of the others.  相似文献

Let G be a complex semisimple group and χ a character of a parabolic subgroup PG such that the associated line bundle on G/P is ample. For a general stable G-bundle EG over a compact Riemann surface of genus at least two, the line bundle over EG/P defined by χ has the property that the restriction of  to any closed subvariety of EG/P of smaller dimension is ample, although is not ample.  相似文献

Let (X,D) be an ?-pointed compact Riemann surface of genus at least two. For each point xD, fix parabolic weights such that . Fix a holomorphic line bundle ξ over X of degree one. Let PMξ denote the moduli space of stable parabolic vector bundles, of rank two and determinant ξ, with parabolic structure over D and parabolic weights . The group of order two line bundles over X acts on PMξ by the rule EL?EL. We compute the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the corresponding orbifold.  相似文献

In the rational category of nilpotent complexes, let E be an H-space acting on a space X. With mild hypotheses we show that the action on the base point factors through a map ΓE:SEX, where SE is a finite product of odd-dimensional spheres and ΓE is a homotopy monomorphism. Among others, the following consequences are obtained: if and only if is essential and if and only if X satisfies a strong splitting condition.  相似文献

Let K be a quadratic imaginary number field with discriminant DK≠−3,−4 and class number one. Fix a prime p?7 which is unramified in K. Given an elliptic curve A/Q with complex multiplication by K, let be the representation which arises from the action of Galois on the Tate module. Herein it is shown that, for all but finitely many inert primes p, the image of a certain deformation of is “as large as possible”, that is, it is the full inverse image of a Cartan subgroup of SL(2,Zp). If p splits in K, then the same result holds as long as a certain Bernoulli-Hurwitz number is a p-adic unit which, in turn, is equivalent to a prime ideal not being a Wieferich place. The proof rests on the theory of elliptic units of Robert and Kubert-Lang, and on the two-variable main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for quadratic imaginary fields.  相似文献
