In the conventional approach to quantum mechanics, indeterminism is an axiom and nonlocality is a theorem. We consider inverting the logical order, making nonlocality an axiom and indeterminism a theorem. Nonlocal superquantum correlations, preserving relativistic causality, can violate the CHSH inequality more strongly than any quantum correlations.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a minimal formal intuitionistic propositional Gentzen sequent calculus for handling quantum types, quantum storage being introduced syntactically along the lines of Girard's of course operator !. The intuitionistic fragment of orthologic is found to be translatable into this calculus by means of a quantum version of the Heyting paradigm. When realized in the category of finite dimensional Hilbert spaces, the familiar qubit arises spontaneously as the irreducible storage capable quantum computational unit, and the necessary involvement of quantum entanglement in the quantum duplication process is plainly and explicitly visible. Quantum computation is modelled by a single extra axiom, and reproduces the standard notion when interpreted in a larger category.  相似文献

Karl Popper proposed a way to test whether a proposed relation of a quantum-mechanical state to perceived reality in the Copenhagen interpretation (CI) of quantum mechanics—namely that the state of a particle is merely an expression of what is known about the system—is in agreement with all experimental facts. A conceptual flaw in Popper's proposal is identified and an improved version of his experiment (called Extension step 1)—which fully serves its original purpose—is suggested. The main purpose of this paper is to suggest to perform this experiment. The results of this experiment predicted under the alternative assumptions that the CI or the many-worlds interpretation (MWI) is correct are shown to be identical. Only after a further modification (called Extension step 2) (the use of an ion isolated from the macroscopic environment as particle detector) the predictions using the respective interpretations become qualitatively different. This is because what is known by a human observer H can fail as a basis for the prediction of the statistical distribution of measurement results within the MWI in special cases: The temporal evolution of a system un-entangled with H (like the isolated ion) can depend on another system's state components that are entangled with states ortogonal to H. Thus—within the CI—for H they are known not to exist. Yet H can infer their existence by studying the evolution of the ion.  相似文献

A derivation by Fröhner of non-relativistic quantum mechanics via Fourier analysis applied to probability theory is not extendable to relativistic quantum mechanics because Schrödinger's positive definite probability density * is lost (Dirac's spin 1/2 case being the exception). The nature of the Fourier link then changes; it points to a redefinition of the probability scheme as an information carrying telegraph, the code of which is Born's as extended by Dirac and by Feynman. Hermitian symmetry of the transition amplitude between Dirac representations expresses reciprocity of preparation and measurement (the quantal coding and decoding), two equally active interventions of the physicist; as the measurement perturbs the system retrodiction implies retroaction evidenced in delayed choice. Reciprocity of knowledge and organization vindicates Wigner's claim that reciprocal to the action of matter upon mind there exists a direct action of mind upon matter: psychokinesis, branded by Jaynes as a psychiatric disorder of the Copenhagen school. As for factlike irreversibility, it is expressed by the enormity of the change rate from information to negentropy: while gain in knowledge is normal psychokinesis is paranormal. Stapp's recent discussion of psychokinesis in a quantum context should be resumed in association with an EPR correlation; an experimental test is proposed.  相似文献

Stapp, Quantum theory and the role of mind in nature, Foundations of Physics 31, 1465–1499 (2001)) are pointed out. A method of constructing covariant differential calculi on a quantum homogeneous space is devised. The function algebra of the quantum homogeneous space is assumed to be a left coideal of a coquasitriangular Hopf algebra and to contain the coefficients of any matrix over which is the two-sided inverse of one with entries in . The method is based on partial derivatives. For the quantum sphere of Podle and the quantizations of symmetric spaces due to Noumi, Dijkhuizen and Sugitani, the construction produces the subcalculi of the standard bicovariant calculus on the quantum group.  相似文献

A review of Wigner's time reversal is presented and some important aspects are emphasized. The subject is introduced via classical mechanics. Non-physical statements as time running backwards are avoided. Comments are made on the roles of time and of the operatori(/t) in quantum mechanics. In this paper, the quantum logical or is analyzed from a physical perspective. We show that it is the existence of EPR-like correlation states for the quantum mechanical entity under consideration that make it nonequivalent to the classical situation. Specifically, the presence of potentiality in these correlation states gives rise to the quantum deviation from the classical logical or. We show how this arises not only in the microworld, but also in macroscopic situations where EPR-like correlation states are present. We investigate how application of this analysis to concepts could alleviate some well known problems in cognitive science.  相似文献

The time evolution of a damped quantum particle is discussed. Dissipation is modeled by the bilinear coupling to a set of harmonic oscillators. Using a functional integral technique that accounts for initial correlations between the particle and the reservoir, one can express the dynamics of the damped particle entirely in terms of equilibrium correlation functions. The long-time behavior of these correlations is determined for memory damping arising from the coupling to a reservoir with spectral densityI() at low frequencies, where > 0. The time evolution of nonequilibrium initial states of the damped particle is discussed. At finite temperatures an initially localized state is found to spread subdiffusively or superdiffusively, depending on . For > 2 the damping becomes ineffective for long times, and the width of a state grows kinematically. At zero temperature and for < 1, an initially localized state remains localized for all times. For 1 the state spreads, but with a slower rate than at finite temperatures. Study of arbitrary initial states indicates that the process is ergodic at finite temperatures only for 2 and at zero temperature for 1 2.  相似文献

A black hole may carry quantum numbers that arenot associated with massless gauge fields, contrary to the spirit of the no-hair theorems. The quantum hair is invisible in the classical limit, but measurable via quantum interference experiments. Quantum hair alters the temperature of the radiation emitted by a black hole. It also induces non-zero expectation values for fields outside the event horizon; these expectation values are non-perturbative in , and decay exponentially far from the hole. The existence of quantum hair demonstrates that a black hole can have an intricate quantum-mechanical structure that is completely missed by standard semiclassical theory.Based on an essay which received second award from the Gravity Research Foundation, 1991  相似文献

The quantum formalism is a measurement formalism-a phenomenological formalism describing certain macroscopic regularities. We argue that it can be regarded, and best be understood, as arising from Bohmian mechanics, which is what emerges from Schrödinger's equation for a system of particles when we merely insist that particles means particles. While distinctly non-Newtonian, Bohmian mechanics is a fully deterministic theory of particles in motion, a motion choreographed by the wave function. We find that a Bohmian universe, though deterministic, evolves in such a manner that anappearance of randomness emerges, precisely as described by the quantum formalism and given, for example, by = ¦¦ 2. A crucial ingredient in our analysis of the origin of this randomness is the notion of the effective wave function of a subsystem, a notion of interest in its own right and of relevance to any discussion of quantum theory. When the quantum formalism is regarded as arising in this way, the paradoxes and perplexities so often associated with (nonrelativistic) quantum theory simply evaporate.This paper is dedicated to the memory of J. A mobility phenomenon is typical for a large class of non-linear evolutions. It is shown that the mobility can be responsible for a malignant form of quantum mechanical non separability of two correlated systems. An explicit example based on Weinberg's non linear quantum mechanics is considered. We show that in such a theory a transfer of information without a transfer of energy is possible and discuss physical roots of this phenomenon. Examples are adduced which lead one to ask if the following rule of unanimity makes sense: Given, a classical dynamical problem. Given, that all solutions of the equations of motion (a) run into a singularity [or (b) are free of singularity], except a set of measure zero. Then (rule of unanimity), all solutions of the corresponding quantum mechanical problem are (a) singular [or (b) free of singularity]. The concept of separation of procedures and the ST-transformation are briefly reviewed together with the equivalence theorem that a d-dimensional quantum system with finite-range interactions is equivalent to the corresponding (d+1)-dimentional classical system with finite-range interactions. This theorem yields the introduction of the quantum transfer-matrix method. Thermo quantum dynamics is formulated using the quantum transfer-matrix method. This new formulation has the great merit that the thermal average Q for any observable Q in the thermodynamic limit is expressed as an expectation value over a temperature-dependent state vector in the single (conjugate) Hilbert space in the contrast to the usage of the double Hilbert space in thermo field dynamics.  相似文献

We prove that quantum logics (=orthomodular posets) admit full independence of the attributes important within the foundations of quantum mechanics. Namely, we present the construction of quantum logics with given sublogics (=physical subsystems), automorphism groups, centers (=classical parts of the systems), and state spaces. Thus, all these parameters are independent. Our result is rooted in the line of investigation carried out by Greechie; Kallus and Trnková; Kalmbach; and Navara and Pták; and considerably enriches the known algebraic methods in orthomodular posets.  相似文献

Three-dimensional differential calculus on quantum spheres S infc sup2 ,]–1, 1[{0}, c[0, ], is introduced and investigated. Spectra of generalized Laplacians are found. These operators are expressed by generalized directional derivatives.
