Topological structure is investigated for second-order vector asymptotic boundary value problems. Because of indicated obstructions, the Rδ-structure is firstly studied for problems on compact intervals and then, by means of the inverse limit method, on non-compact intervals. The information about the structure is furthermore employed, by virtue of a fixed-point index technique in Fréchet spaces developed by ourselves earlier, for obtaining an existence result for nonlinear asymptotic problems. Galerkin (finite elements) approximations of compensators/estimators for partially observed infinite-dimensional systems with unbounded control operators are considered. It is shown that these approximations enjoy two features: (i) they provide a near-optimal performance, and (ii) they retain uniform asymptotic stability properties (uniform with respect to the parameter of discretization) of the entire closed loop system. Conventional formulations of linear algebra do not do justice to the fundamental concepts of meet, join, and duality in projective geometry. This defect is corrected by introducing Clifford algebra into the foundations of linear algebra. There is a natural extension of linear transformations on a vector space to the associated Clifford algebra with a simple projective interpretation. This opens up new possibilities for coordinate-free computations in linear algebra. For example, the Jordan form for a linear transformation is shown to be equivalent to a canonical factorization of the unit pseudoscalar. This approach also reveals deep relations between the structure of the linear geometries, from projective to metrical, and the structure of Clifford algebras. This is apparent in a new relation between additive and multiplicative forms for intervals in the cross-ratio. Also, various factorizations of Clifford algebras into Clifford algebras of lower dimension are shown to have projective interpretations.As an important application with many uses in physics as well as in mathematics, the various representations of the conformal group in Clifford algebra are worked out in great detail. A new primitive generator of the conformal group is identified.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain the existence and uniqueness results for general second-order three-point boundary value problems by applying the method of upper and lower solutions together with Leray–Schauder degree, as well as obtaining monotone iteration schemes which converge quadratically to the unique solution of some specific second-order three-point boundary value problem by using the method of quasilinearization.  相似文献

In this paper, the method of upper and lower solutions and the Schauder degree theory are employed in the study of Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems for second order impulsive differential equations. The techniques for discussing linear differential operators in left definite spaces, developed earlier for regular fourth order and singular second order operators, are applied the Legendre type operator. It is shown that the operator, with its domain merely restricted to the new space, remains self-adjoint and has the same spectrum, inverse and spectral resolution (an eigenfunction expansion) as the original L 2 operator.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of classical solutions for a second-order impulsive differential equation with periodic boundary conditions. By using a variational method and critical point theory, we give some new criteria to guarantee that the impulsive problem has at least one solution, two solutions and infinitely many solutions when the parameter pair (c,λ) lies in different intervals, respectively. This paper is an elementary introduction to the concepts of variational iteration method. First, the main concepts in variational iteration method, such as general Lagrange multiplier, restricted variation, correction functional, are explained heuristically. Subsequently, the solution procedure is systematically addressed, in particular, for nonlinear oscillators. Particular attention is paid throughout the paper to give an intuitive grasp for the method.
