We study intersection homology with general perversities that assign integers to stratum components with none of the classical constraints of Goresky and MacPherson. We extend Goresky and MacPherson’s axiomatic treatment of Deligne sheaves, and use these to obtain Poincaré and Lefschetz duality results for these general perversities. We also produce versions of both the sheaf-theoretic and the piecewise linear chain-theoretic intersection pairings that carry no restrictions on the input perversities.  相似文献

We introduce a singular chain intersection homology theory which generalizes that of King and which agrees with the Deligne sheaf intersection homology of Goresky and MacPherson on any topological stratified pseudomanifold, compact or not, with constant or local coefficients, and with traditional perversities or superperversities (those satisfying ). For the case , these latter perversities were introduced by Cappell and Shaneson and play a key role in their superduality theorem for embeddings. We further describe the sheafification of this singular chain complex and its adaptability to broader classes of stratified spaces.

In recent times a great amount of progress has been achieved in symplectic and contact geometry, leading to the development of powerful invariants of 3-manifolds such as Heegaard Floer homology and embedded contact homology. These invariants are based on holomorphic curves and moduli spaces, but in the simplest cases, some of their structure reduces to some elementary combinatorics and algebra which may be of interest in its own right. In this note, which is essentially a light-hearted exposition of some previous work of the author, we give a brief introduction to some of the ideas of contact topology and holomorphic curves, discuss some of these elementary results, and indicate how they arise from holomorphic invariants.  相似文献

In the realm of topological automorphisms of totally disconnected locally compact groups, the scale function introduced by Willis in [19] is compared with the topological entropy. We prove that the logarithm of the scale function is always dominated by the topological entropy and we provide examples showing that this inequality can be strict. Moreover, we give a condition equivalent to the equality between these two invariants. Various properties of the scale function, inspired by those of the topological entropy, are presented.  相似文献

In this work, we calculate the trace of a Hecke correspondance composed with a power of the Frobenius endomorphism on the fibre of the intersection complexes of the Baily-Borel compactification of a Siegel modular variety.

Our main tool is Pink's theorem about the restriction to the strata of the Baily-Borel compactification of the direct image of a local system on the Shimura variety. To use this theorem, we give a new construction of the intermediate extension of a pure perverse sheaf as a weight truncation of the full direct image.

More generally, we are able to define analogs in positive characteristic of the weighted cohomology complexes introduced by Goresky, Harder and MacPherson.

Let L be a completely distributive lattice with order reversing involution, and (X, τ) an L-fuzzy topological space. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the fundamental concept of fuzzy algebraic topology-the singular homology groups of the L-fuzzy topological space, in such a way that they take the (usual) cubical singular homology groups of a topological space as a special case. Also, we shall prove that they are L-fuzzy homeomorphic invariants.  相似文献

Following an “ansatz” of Björner and Ziegler [BZ], we give an axiomatic development of finite sign vector systems that we callcomplex matroids. This includes, as special cases, the sign vector systems that encode complex arrangements according to [BZ], and the complexified oriented matroids, whose complements were considered by Gel'fand and Rybnikov [GeR]. Our framework makes it possible to study complex hyperplane arrangements as entirely combinatorial objects. By comparing complex matroids with 2-matroids, which model the more general 2-arrangements introduced by Goresky and MacPherson [GoM], the essential combinatorial meaning of a “complex structure” can be isolated. Our development features a topological representation theorem for 2-matroids and complex matroids, and the computation of the cohomology of the complement of a 2-arrangement, including its multiplicative structure in the complex case. Duality is established in the cases of complexified oriented matroids, and for realizable complex matroids. Complexified oriented matroids are shown to be matroids with coefficients in the sense of Dress and Wenzel [D1], [DW1], but this fails in general.  相似文献

We give a simple proof of the fact that the localized Chern characters of Baum, Fulton and MacPherson commute with the refined Gysin homomorphisms of [3]. This has been proved in [3] in the context of bivariant intersection theory using the technique of deformation to the normal cone. Our proof is more elementary in the sense that it avoids such a deformation and relies on a commutativity formula of these Chern characters with effective Cartier divisors. From this formula we also derive easily that the localized Chern characters pass to rational equivalence.  相似文献

We show that the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of a hypersurface X in a nonsingular variety M ‘interpolates’ between two other notions of characteristic classes for singular varieties, provided that the singular locus of X is smooth and that certain numerical invariants of X are constant along this locus. This allows us to define a lift of the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of such ‘nice’ hypersurfaces to intersection homology. As another application, the interpolation result leads to an explicit formula for the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of X in terms of its polar classes.  相似文献

We develop various properties of étale Borel–Moore homology and study its relationship with intersection theory. Using Gabber's localized cycle classes we define étale homological Gysin morphisms and show that they are compatible with the cycle class map and Gysin morphisms in intersection theory. We also study étale versions of bivariant operations, and establish their compatibility with Riemann–Roch transformations and Fulton–MacPherson bivariant operations. As an application of these techniques we show that in certain situations local terms for correspondences acting on étale cohomology are given by cycle classes.  相似文献

The first results relating intersection homology with ℒ2-cohomology were found by Cheeger, Goresky and MacPhersson (cf.[4] and [5]). The first spaces considered were the compact stratified pseudomanifolds with isolated singularities. Later, Nagase extended this result to any compact stratified spaceA possessing a Cheeger type riemannian metric μ (cf. [12]). The proof of the isomorphism uses the axiomatic caractérisation of the intersection homology of [2]. In this work we show how to realize this isomorphism by the usual integration of differential forms on simplices. The main tool used is the blow up of A into a smooth manifold, introduced in [2]. We also prove that any stratified space possesses a Cheeger type riemannian metric.

A global action is the algebraic analogue of a topological manifold. This construction was introduced in first place by A. Bak as a combinatorial approach to K-Theory and the concept was later generalized by Bak, Brown, Minian and Porter to the notion of groupoid atlas. In this paper we define and investigate homotopy invariants of global actions and groupoid atlases, such as the strong fundamental groupoid, the weak and strong nerves, classifying spaces and homology groups. We relate all these new invariants to classical constructions in topological spaces, simplicial complexes and simplicial sets. This way we obtain new combinatorial formulations of classical and non classical results in terms of groupoid atlases.   相似文献

We propose a geometric interpretation of the theory of elliptic endoscopy, due to Langlands and Kottwitz, in terms of the Hitchin fibration. As applications, we prove a global analog of a purity conjecture, due to Goresky, Kottwitz and MacPherson. For unitary groups, this global purity statement has been used, in a joint work with G. Laumon, to prove the fundamental lemma over a local fields of equal characteristics.   相似文献

In this paper we present some formulae for topological invariants of projective complete intersection curves with isolated singularities in terms of the Milnor number, the Euler characteristic and the topological genus. We also present some conditions, involving the Milnor number and the degree of the curve, for the irreducibility of complete intersection curves.  相似文献

In this paper, we mainly discuss some generalized metric properties and the cardinal invariants of almost topological groups. We give a characterization for an almost topological group to be a topological group and show that:(1) Each almost topological group that is of countable π-character is submetrizable;(2) Each left λ-narrow almost topological group isλ-narrow;(3) Each separable almost topological group is ω-narrow. Some questions are posed.  相似文献

Metric homology
Metric homology is a homology theory constructed on semialgebraic (or compact subanalytic) sets with singularities. Metric homology is an invariant under semialgebraic (subanalytic) bi‐Lipschitz homeomorphisms and not a topological invariant. As in intersection homology theory, classes of admissible chains are defined using a semialgebraic stratification and a perversity function. In contrast to intersection homology, the perversity is a rational‐valued function. Instead of the topological dimension of the intersection of a chain with a stratum, we consider the so‐called volume‐growth number. This number is a sort of generalization of Hausdorff dimension. In the second part of the paper we describe one‐dimensional metric homology for spaces with isolated singularities and calculate some concrete examples. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

In this Note we generalise the Witten deformation to even dimensional Riemannian manifolds with cone-like singularities X and certain functions f, which we call admissible Morse functions. As a corollary we get Morse inequalities for the L2-Betti numbers of X. The contribution of a singular point p of X to the Morse inequalities can be expressed in terms of the intersection cohomology of the local Morse datum of f at p. The definition of the class of functions which we study here is inspired by stratified Morse theory as developed by Goresky and MacPherson. However the setting here is different since the spaces considered here are manifolds with cone-like singularities instead of Whitney stratified spaces.  相似文献

Associated to a toric variety X of dimension r over a field k is a fan Δ on R1. The fan Δ is a finite set of cones which are in one-to-one correspondence with the orbits of the torus action on X. The fan Δ inherits the Zariski topology from X. In this article some cohomological invariants of X are studied in terms of whether or not they depend only on Δ and not k. Secondly some numerical invariants of X are studied in terms of whether or not they are topological invariants of the fan Δ. That is, whether or not they depend only on the finite topological space defined on Δ. The invariants with which we are mostly concerned are the class group of Weil divisors, the Picard group, the Brauer group and the dimensions of the torsion free part of the etale cohomology groups with coefficients in the sheaf of units. The notion of an open neighborhood of a fan is introduced and examples are given for which the above invariants are sufficiently fine to give nontrivial stratifications of an open neighborhood of a fan all of whose maximal cones are nonsimplicia.  相似文献
