A comparison theorem and a uniqueness corollary for positive solutions to the equation
i=1n (pi(x,u)uxi)xi + q(x,u)u = 0
on the closure of a bounded open set are found. The important hypotheses on the nonlinear coefficients are that each pi is positive and monotone increasing in u while q is monotone decreasing in u. An application is made to equations arising in the theory of chemical reactors.  相似文献

In this paper it is shown that the linear systems Σi defined by Σi: x?i = Aixi + Biui, i = 1, 2, are topologically equivalent if and only if they have the same Kronecker indices and the flows defined by considering trajectories modulo their controllable subspace are topologically equivalent. From some recent work of N. H. Kuiper (in “Manifolds—Tokyo 1973,” Univ. of Tokyo Press, Tokyo 1975) it is known exactly what this last condition amounts to. With these results at hand it is then not difficult to investigate the structural stability of ∑: x? = Ax + Bu and, in fact, structural stability turns out to be generic.  相似文献

We characterize the uniform algebras A on a compact Hausdorff space X which contain a sequence {uj}j = 0 of unimodular elements with ujuj ? 1 ? A and closed span {uju}j = 0 = C(X) in terms of the maximal ideal space of A. Let {Xn} be a ?-irreducible Markov chain on an arbitrary space. Sufficient conditions are given under which the chain is ergodic or recurrent. These extend known results for chains on a countable state space. In particular, it is shown that if the space is a normed topological space, then under some continuity conditions on the transition probabilities of {Xn} the conditions for ergodicity will be met if there is a compact set K and an ? > 0 such that E {6Xn+16 — 6Xn6 ∣ Xn = x} ? ?? whenever x lies outside K and E{6Xn+16 ∣ Xn=x} is bounded, xK; whilst the conditions for recurrence will be met if there exists a compact K with E {6Xn+16 ? 6Xn6 ∣ Xn = x} ? 0 for all x outside K. In this Note we prove that vL, the Leray velocity solution to the steady incompressible, two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations, tends at infinity to the prescribed vector v. Elliptic boundary value problems for systems of nonlinear partial differential equations of the form Fi(x, u1, u2,…, uN,?ui?xj, ?pi?2ui?xj ?xk) = ?i(x), x ? Rn, i = 1(1)N, j, k = 1(1)n, pi ? 0, ? being a small parameter, with Dirichlet boundary conditions are considered. It is supposed that a formal approximation Z is given which satisfies the boundary conditions and the differential equations upto the order χ(?) = o(1) in some norm. Then, using the theory of differential inequalities, it is shown that under certain conditions the difference between the exact solution u of the boundary value problem and the formal approximation Z, taken in the sense of a suitable norm, can be made small.  相似文献
