In a recent paper, Dave Benson and Peter Symonds defined a new invariant γG(M) for a finite dimensional module M of a finite group G which attempts to quantify how close a module is to being projective. In this paper, we determine this invariant for permutation modules of the symmetric group corresponding to two-part partitions using tools from representation theory and combinatorics.

A module of a finite group over a finite field with a symmetric non-degenerate bilinear form which is invariant by the group action is called a symmetric module. In this paper, a characterization of indecomposable orthogonal decompositions of symmetric semisimple modules and a criterion for the hyperbolic symmetric modules are obtained, and some applications to the self-dual permutation codes are shown.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that any pure submodule of a strict Mittag-Leffler module is a locally split submodule. Analogously to the projective class group, the permutation class group of a finite group π can be defined as the group of equivalence classes of direct summands of integral permutation modules modulo permutation modules. It is shown that this group behaves nicely with respect to localization and completion, which then is used to prove that contrary to the projective class group - it is not always a torsion group. We study the space of functions on a finite-dimensional vector space over a field of odd order as a module for a symplectic group. We construct a basis of this module with the following special properties. Each submodule generated by a single basis element under the symplectic group action is spanned as a vector space by a subset of the basis and has a unique maximal submodule. From these properties, the dimension and composition factors of the submodule generated by any subset of the basis can be determined. These results apply to incidence geometry of the symplectic polar space, yielding the symplectic analogue of Hamada's additive formula for the p-ranks of the incidence matrices between points and flats. A special case leads to a closed formula for the p-rank of the incidence matrix between the points and lines of the symplectic generalized quadrangle over a field of odd order. Together with earlier results on the 2-ranks, this result completes the determination of the p-ranks for these quadrangles.  相似文献

This paper is a further contribution to the classification of linetransitive finite linear spaces. We prove that if ? is a non-trivial finite linear space such that the Fang-Li parameter gcd(k, r) is 9 or 10, and the group G ? We define and study a notion of Gorenstein projective dimension for complexes of left modules over associative rings. For complexes of finite Gorenstein projective dimension we define and study a Tate cohomology theory. Tate cohomology groups have a natural transformation to classical Ext groups. In the case of module arguments, we show that these maps fit into a long exact sequence, where every third term is a relative cohomology group defined for left modules of finite Gorenstein projective dimension.

We observe that the restriction of a Verma module over a semi-simple Lie algebra to a subalgebra of Levi type may be viewed as a projective functor. By simple arguments we prove that this restriction can be decomposed into a direct sum of standard indecomposables in the category O. For the restriction problem from sl(n+1) to gl(n) we describe the complete answer. We study the properties of the modules with Verma flag also and prove that any module with Verma flag is a submodule of some projective.  相似文献

It is shown that a symmetrized tensor space does not have an orthogonal basis consisting of standard symmetrized tensors if the associated permutation group is 2-transitive. The concept of an ovoid is extended to linear spaces, and it is shown that a finite uniform linear space with an ovoid is either a trivial structure on a finite set, or else either two or three dimensional. 这项研究的目的是要把Abel群(有限或无限)的诸多分解定理尽可能地推广到主理想整环的模上,得到这类模上的分解定理,随后再把所得定理应用到向量空间(有限维或无限维)及其线性变换,得到向量空间的分解定理.本文是系列文章的第一篇,主要目的是建立起支撑整个研究的最基本概念,例如纯子模、有界模、局部循环模、具有minimax条件的模等.本文主要内容有: (1)确定了主理想整环上可除模、有界模、局部循环模的结构; (2)给出了主理想整环上拟循环模的生成性质,这类模在以后的研究里起着非常重要的作用; (3)描述了主理想整环上满足极小条件,minimax条件的模的结构; (4)给出了两个不同构的Z[i]-模,它们作为Abel群是同构的.  相似文献

We describe Koszul type complexes associated with a linear map from any module to a free module, and vice versa with a linear map from a free module to an arbitrary module, generalizing the classical Koszul complexes. Given a short complex of finite free modules, we assemble these complexes to what we call Koszul bicomplexes. They are used in order to investigate the homology of the Koszul complexes in projective dimension one. As in the case of the classical Koszul complexes, this homology turns out to be grade sensitive. In a special setup, we obtain necessary conditions for a map of free modules to be lengthened to a short complex of free modules.  相似文献

The problem of embedding of linear spaces in finite projective planes has been examined by several authors ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]). In particular, it has been proved in [1] that a linear space which is the complement of a projective or affine subplane of order m is embeddable in a unique way in a projective plane of order n. In this article, we give a generalization of this result by embedding linear spaces in a finite projective plane of order n, which are complements of certain regularA-affine linear spaces with respect to a finite projective plane.  相似文献

The theory of Minkowski-planes has been initiated by W.Benz as an abstraction of the geometry of plane sections of a non degenerated ruled quadric in three-dimensional projective space. We give some basic definitions and concepts of this theory, including a list of properties of circle-bundles in symmetric Minkowski-planes. Finite Minkowski planes of even order are symmetric.Minkowski-planes may be interpreted as the geometries of sharply triply sets of permutations. The most important properties of Minkowski-planes are expressed in terms of these permutation sets. In § 6 some facts on ovoidal Minkowski-planes are discussed.  相似文献

Permutation groups of prime power degree are investigated here through the study of the corresponding group algebra of the set of all functions from the underlying set on which the permutation group acts to a finite field of characteristic p. For the case when the permutation group is of degree p2 acting on a set consisting of the direct product of two elementary abelian p-groups, the structure of a minimal permutation module is obtained under certain conditions. The proofs do not depend on the recent classification results of finite simple groups.  相似文献
