IfG is a finite group thend(G) denotes the minimal number of generators ofG. IfH andK are groups then the extension, 1 →HGK → 1, is called an outer extension ofK byH ifd(G)=d(H)+d(K). Let be the class of groups containing all finitep-groupsG which has a presentation withd(G) = dimH 1(G,z p ) generators andr(G)=dimH 2 (G,Z p ) relations: in this article it is shown that ifK is a non cyclic group belonging to andH is a finite abelian p-group then any outer extension ofK byH belongs to .  相似文献

Let μ be a probability measure on a locally compact second countable groupG defining a recurrent (but not necessarily Harris) random walk. Denote byG the space of paths and byB (a)the asymptotic σ-algebra. Let the starting measure be equivalent to the Haar measure and writeQ for the corresponding Markov measure onG . We prove thatL (G, B(a), Q) is in a canonical way isomorphic toL (G/N) whereN is the smallest closed normal subgroup ofG such that μ(zN)=1 for somez∈G. The groupG/N is either a finite cyclic group with generatorzN or a compact abelian group having the cyclic group as a dense subgroup. As a corollary we obtain that the set of all φ∈L 1(G) such that coincides with the kernel of the canonical mapping ofL 1(G)ontoL 1(G/N). In particular, when μ is aperiodic, i.e.,G=N, then the random walk is mixing: for every φ∈L 1(G) with ∝ φ=0.  相似文献

The connections between inductive definability and models of comprehension are studied. Let = 〈A, R l, ...,R n 〉 be an infinite structure and letI φ be a set inductively defined by a formulaφ of the second order language . We prove that if is a model of Δ 1 1 -Comprehension relativized toφ, andφ is -absolute, then for everyη smaller than the height of (h( )),I φ is in . If is aβ-structure which satisfies Σ 1 1 -Comprehension relativized toφ and WF(X), and φ is -absolute, thenI φ is in and ‖φ| <h ( ). These results imply that Barwise-Grilliot theorem is false in the case of uncountable acceptable structures. We also study the notion of invariant definability over models1 of Δ 1 1 -Comprehension. Let (n, k) be the class of all simplicial complexesC over a fixed set ofn vertices (2≦k≦n) such that: (1)C has a complete (k−1)-skeleton, (2)C has precisely ( k n−1 )k-faces, (3)H k (C)=0. We prove that for ,H k−1(C) is a finite group, and our main result is: . This formula extends to high dimensions Cayley’s formula for the number of trees onn labelled vertices. Its proof is based on a generalization of the matrix tree theorem.  相似文献

LetG be a locally compact second countable abelian group, (X, μ) aσ-finite Lebesgue space, and (g, x) →gx a non-singular, properly ergodic action ofG on (X, μ). Let furthermore Γ be the character group ofG and let Sp(G, X) ⊂ Γ denote theL -spectrum ofG on (X, μ). It has been shown in [5] that Sp(G, X) is a Borel subgroup of Γ and thatσ (Sp(G, X))<1 for every probability measureσ on Γ with lim supg→∞Re (g)<1, where is the Fourier transform ofσ. In this note we prove the following converse: ifσ is a probability measure on Γ with lim supg→∞Re (g)<1 (g)=1 then there exists a non-singular, properly ergodic action ofG on (X, μ) withσ(Sp(G, X))=1.  相似文献

Two extensions of a classical theorem of Rellich are proved: (1) LetP=P(−iϖ/ϖx) be a partial differential operator with constant coefficients in , let the manifolds contained in have codimension ≧k>0, and denote by Γ an open cone in intersecting each normal plane of every such manifold. If ,Pu=0 and it follows thatu=0. (2) Assume in addition that each irreducibe lfactor ofP van shes on a real hypersurface and that Γ contains both normal directions at some such point. If andP(D) u has compact support, the same condition withk=1 implies thatu has compact support. In both results the hypotheses on the cone Γ and on the operatorP are minimal.  相似文献

Let f be an integrable function on the unit sphere Σ n−1 of R n (n⩾3) and let σ N δ be the Cesàro means of order σ of the Fourier-Laplace series of f. The special value λ:=n−2/2 of σ is known as the critical index. This paper proves that and where ω(f,t)p is the 1st-order modulus of continuity of f in Lp-metric which is defined in a way different than in the classical case of n=2. In Memory of Professor M. T. LetG be a discrete abelian group,Ĝ the character group ofG, andl (G)* the conjugate ofl (G) equipped with an Arens product. In many cases, we can find unitary functionsf such that χf is almost convergent to zero for all χ∈Ĝ. Some of these functions are then used to produce elements μ∈l (G)* such that γμ=0 whenever γ is an annihilator ofC 0(G). Regarded as Borel measures on βG, these elements satisfyxμ=0 for allx∈βG/G. They belong to the radical ofl (G)*, and each of them generates a left ideal ofl (G)* that contains no minimal left ideal.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the upper bounds on the numbers of transitions of minimum and maximum spanning trees (MinST and MaxST for short) for linearly moving points. Here, a transition means a change on the combinatorial structure of the spanning trees. Suppose that we are given a set ofn points ind-dimensional space,S={p 1,p 2, ...p n }, and that all points move along different straight lines at different but fixed speeds, i.e., the position ofp i is a linear function of a real parametert. We investigate the numbers of transitions of MinST and MaxST whent increases from-∞ to +∞. We assume that the dimensiond is a fixed constant. Since there areO(n 2) distances amongn points, there are naivelyO(n 4) transitions of MinST and MaxST. We improve these trivial upper bounds forL 1 andL distance metrics. Letk p (n) (resp. ) be the number of maximum possible transitions of MinST (resp. MaxST) inL p metric forn linearly moving points. We give the following results in this paper: κ1(n)=O(n 5/2 α(n)),κ (n)=O(n 5/2 α(n)), , and where α(n) is the inverse Ackermann's function. We also investigate two restricted cases, i.e., thec-oriented case in which there are onlyc distinct velocity vectors for movingn points, and the case in which onlyk points move.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group with a fixed right Haar measure andX a separable Banach space. LetL p (G, X) be the space of X-valued measurable functions whose norm-functions are in the usualL p . A left multiplier ofL p (G, X) is a bounded linear operator onB p (G, X) which commutes with all left translations. We use the characterization of isometries ofL p (G, X) onto itself to characterize the isometric, invertible, left multipliers ofL p (G, X) for 1 ≤p ∞,p ≠ 2, under the assumption thatX is not thel p -direct sum of two non-zero subspaces. In fact we prove that ifT is an isometric left multiplier ofL p (G, X) onto itself then there existsa y ∃ G and an isometryU ofX onto itself such thatTf(x) = U (R y f)(x). As an application, we determine the isometric left multipliers of L1L p (G, X) and L1C 0 (G, X) whereG is non-compact andX is not the lp-direct sum of two non-zero subspaces. If G is a locally compact abelian group andH is a separable Hubert space, we define where г is the dual group of G. We characterize the isometric, invertible, left multipliers ofA p (G, H), provided G is non-compact. Finally, we use the characterization of isometries ofC(G, X) for G compact to determine the isometric left multipliers ofC(G, X) providedX * is strictly convex.  相似文献

Summary LetF be a distribution function over the real line. DefineR p(y)=∫|x−y|pdF(x) forp≧1. Forp>1 there is a unique minimizer ofR p(·), sayγ p. Under mild conditions onF it is shown that exists and that the limit is a median. Thus, one could use this limit as a definition of a unique median. Also it is shown that whereR is the right extremity ofF andL is the left extremity ofF provided that −∞<LR<∞. A similar result is available ifL=−∞,R=∞, yetF has symmetric tails.

Summary This paper refers to the concept offiltrale class of similar algebras, which has been introduced byR. Magari in [6]. First I observe that a class of similarfiltrale algebras is not generallyfiltrale, not even if is a finite family of finite algebras. However I find that if is a finite family of similarfiltrale algebras, which are also independent (using this term in the sense ofA. L. Foster [2]), then also isfiltrale. Then introducing the notion of independent varieties, one arrives at a generalization of the above mentioned result. Given then a family of similar algebras , we say that these aresemi-indipendenti if for everyJ⊂I there exists an algebraic functionf J defined in II i so thatf J(x, y)=z wherez i=xi ifi∈J andz i=yi ifi∉J for every . I prove that if is a finite family ofsemifiltrali andsemi-indipendenti algebras, then also issemifiltrale. I also find that a finite algebra, which is simple andsemi-indipendente of itself (in the sense that there exists in a binary algebraic functionf withf(x, y)=<x 0,y 1>) issemifiltrale. Then I give the notion ofsemi-indipendente variety, which leads to some further results. Finally I observe that all these results can be extended to ideal classes of similar algebras.

For an additive subgroup G of a field F of characteristic zero, a Lie algebra B(G) of Block type is defined with basis {Lα,i| α∈G, i∈Z+} and relations [Lα,i, Lβ,j] = (β-α)Lα+β,i+j+(αj-βi)Lα+β,Lα+β,i+j-1.It is proved that an irreducible highest weight B(Z)-module is quasifinite if and only if it is a proper quotient of a Verma module. Furthermore, for a total order λ on G and any ∧∈B(G)0^*(the dual space of B(G)0 = span{L0,i|i∈Z+}), a Verma B(G)-module M(∧,λ) is defined, and the irreducibility of M(A,λ) is completely determined.  相似文献

The 2-weak vertex-packing polytope of a loopless graphG withd vertices is the subset of the unitd-cube satisfyingx i +x j ≤1 for every edge (i,j) ofG. The dilation by 2 of this polytope is a polytope with integral vertices. We triangulate with lattice simplices of minimal volume and label the maximal simplices with elements of the hyperoctahedral groupB d . This labeling gives rise to a shelling of the triangulation of , where theh-vector of (and the Ehrharth *-vector of can be computed as a descent statistic on a subset ofB d defined in terms ofG. A recursive way of computing theh-vector of is also given, and a recursive formula for the volume of .
