We consider a discrete time single server queueing system in which arrivals are governed by the Markovian arrival process. During a service period, all customers are served exhaustively. The server goes on vacation as soon as he/she completes service and the system is empty. Termination of the vacation period is controlled by two threshold parameters N and T, i.e. the server terminates his/her vacation as soon as the number waiting reaches N or the waiting time of the leading customer reaches T units. The steady state probability vector is shown to be of matrix-geometric type. The average queue length and the probability that the server is on vacation (or idle) are obtained. We also derive the steady state distribution of the waiting time at arrivals and show that the vacation period distribution is of phase type.  相似文献

We study a GI/M/1 queue with an N threshold policy. In this system, the server stops attending the queue when the system becomes empty and resumes serving the queue when the number of customers reaches a threshold value N. Using the embeded Markov chain method, we obtain the stationary distributions of queue length and waiting time and prove the stochastic decomposition properties.  相似文献

This paper deals with the (p, N)-policy M/G/1 queue with an unreliable server and single vacation. Immediately after all of the customers in the system are served, the server takes single vacation. As soon as N customers are accumulated in the queue, the server is activated for services with probability p or deactivated with probability (1  p). When the server returns from vacation and the system size exceeds N, the server begins serving the waiting customers. If the number of customers waiting in the queue is less than N when the server returns from vacation, he waits in the system until the system size reaches or exceeds N. It is assumed that the server is subject to break down according to a Poisson process and the repair time obeys a general distribution. This paper derived the system size distribution for the system described above at a stationary point of time. Various system characteristics were also developed. We then constructed a total expected cost function per unit time and applied the Tabu search method to find the minimum cost. Some numerical results are also given for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This paper deals with the control policy of a removable and unreliable server for an M/M/1/K queueing system, where the removable server operates an F-policy. The so-called F-policy means that when the number of customers in the system reaches its capacity K (i.e. the system becomes full), the system will not accept any incoming customers until the queue length decreases to a certain threshold value F. At that time, the server initiates an exponential startup time with parameter γ and starts allowing customers entering the system. It is assumed that the server breaks down according to a Poisson process and the repair time has an exponential distribution. A matrix analytical method is applied to derive the steady-state probabilities through which various system performance measures can be obtained. A cost model is constructed to determine the optimal values, say (Fμγ), that yield the minimum cost. Finally, we use the two methods, namely, the direct search method and the Newton-Quasi method to find the global minimum (Fμγ). Numerical results are also provided under optimal operating conditions.  相似文献

We consider a discrete-time single server N  -policy GI/Geo/1GI/Geo/1 queueing system. The server stops servicing whenever the system becomes empty, and resumes its service as soon as the number of waiting customers in the queue reaches N. Using an embedded Markov chain and a trial solution approach, the stationary queue length distribution at arrival epochs is obtained. Furthermore, we obtain the stationary queue length distribution at arbitrary epochs by using the preceding result and a semi-Markov process. The sojourn time distribution is also presented.  相似文献

An M[X]/G/1 retrial G-queue with single vacation and unreliable server is investigated in this paper. Arrivals of positive customers form a compound Poisson process, and positive customers receive service immediately if the server is free upon their arrivals; Otherwise, they may enter a retrial orbit and try their luck after a random time interval. The arrivals of negative customers form a Poisson process. Negative customers not only remove the customer being in service, but also make the server under repair. The server leaves for a single vacation as soon as the system empties. In this paper, we analyze the ergodical condition of this model. By applying the supplementary variables method, we obtain the steady-state solutions for both queueing measures and reliability quantities.  相似文献

This paper studies the vacation policies of an M/G/1 queueing system with server breakdowns, startup and closedown times, in which the length of the vacation period is controlled either by the number of arrivals during the vacation period, or by a timer. After all the customers are served in the queue exhaustively, the server is shutdown (deactivates) by a closedown time. At the end of the shutdown time, the server immediately takes a vacation and operates two different policies: (i) The server reactivates as soon as the number of arrivals in the queue reaches to a predetermined threshold N or the waiting time of the leading customer reaches T units; and (ii) The server reactivates as soon as the number of arrivals in the queue reaches to a predetermined threshold N or T time units have elapsed since the end of the closedown time. If the timer expires or the number of arrivals exceeds the threshold N, then the server reactivates and requires a startup time before providing the service until the system is empty. If some customers arrive during this closedown time, the service is immediately started without leaving for a vacation and without a startup time. We analyze the system characteristics for each scheme.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to study the steady state behavior of an M/G/1-type retrial queue in which there are two flows of arrivals namely ingoing calls made by regular customers and outgoing calls made by the server when it is idle. We carry out an extensive stationary analysis of the system, including stability condition, embedded Markov chain, steady state joint distribution of the server state and the number of customers in the orbit (i.e., the retrial group) and calculation of the first moments. We also obtain light-tailed asymptotic results for the number of customers in the orbit. We further formulate a more complicate but realistic model where the arrivals and the service time distributions are modeled in terms of the Markovian arrival process (MAP) and the phase (PH) type distribution.  相似文献

Consider a symmetrical system of n queues served in cyclic order by a single server. It is shown that the stationary number of customers in the system is distributed as the sum of three independent random variables, one being the stationary number of customers in a standard M/G/1 queue. This fact is used to establish an upper bound for the mean waiting time for the case where at most k customers are served at each queue per visit by the server. This approach is also used to rederive the mean waiting times for the cases of exhaustive service, gated service, and serve at most one customer at each queue per visit by the server.  相似文献

We consider a variation of the hypercube model in which there are N distinguishable servers and R types of customers. Customers that find all servers busy (blocked customers) are lost. When service times are exponentially distributed and customers arrive according to independent Poisson streams, we show that the policy which always assigns customers to the fastest available server minimizes the long-run average number of lost customers. Furthermore, we derive an upper bound for the blocking probability and the long-run average number of customers lost.  相似文献

This paper deals with an N policy M/G/1 queueing system with a single removable and unreliable server whose arrivals form a Poisson process. Service times, repair times, and startup times are assumed to be generally distributed. When the queue length reaches N(N ? 1), the server is immediately turned on but is temporarily unavailable to serve the waiting customers. The server needs a startup time before providing service until there are no customers in the system. We analyze various system performance measures and investigate some designated known expected cost function per unit time to determine the optimal threshold N at a minimum cost. Sensitivity analysis is also studied.  相似文献

This paper deals with a batch service queue and multiple vacations. The system consists of a single server and a waiting room of finite capacity. Arrival of customers follows a Markovian arrival process (MAP). The server is unavailable for occasional intervals of time called vacations, and when it is available, customers are served in batches of maximum size ‘b’ with a minimum threshold value ‘a’. We obtain the queue length distributions at various epochs along with some key performance measures. Finally, some numerical results have been presented.  相似文献

This paper investigates a batch arrival retrial queue with general retrial times, where the server is subject to starting failures and provides two phases of heterogeneous service to all customers under Bernoulli vacation schedules. Any arriving batch finding the server busy, breakdown or on vacation enters an orbit. Otherwise one customer from the arriving batch enters a service immediately while the rest join the orbit. After the completion of two phases of service, the server either goes for a vacation with probability p or may wait for serving the next customer with probability (1 − p). We construct the mathematical model and derive the steady-state distribution of the server state and the number of customers in the system/orbit. Such a model has potential application in transfer model of e-mail system.  相似文献

We consider the single server Markovian queue and we assume that arriving customers decide whether to enter the system or balk based on a natural reward-cost structure, which incorporates their desire for service as well as their unwillingness to wait. We suppose that the waiting space of the system is partitioned in compartments of fixed capacity for a customers. Before making his decision, a customer may or may not know the compartment in which he will enter and/or the position within the compartment in which he will enter. Thus, denoting by n the number of customers found by an arriving customer, he may or may not know ? n/a ?+1 and/or (n mod a)+1. We examine customers’ behavior under the various levels of information regarding the system state and we identify equilibrium threshold strategies. We also study the corresponding social and profit maximization problems.  相似文献

This paper deals with the steady state behaviour of an Mx/G/1 queue with general retrial time and Bernoulli vacation schedule for an unreliable server, which consists of a breakdown period and delay period. Here we assume that customers arrive according to compound Poisson processes. While the server is working with primary customers, it may breakdown at any instant and server will be down for short interval of time. Further concept of the delay time is also introduced. The primary customer finding the server busy, down or vacation are queued in the orbit in accordance with FCFS (first come first served) retrial policy. After the completion of a service, the server either goes for a vacation of random length with probability p or may continue to serve for the next customer, if any with probability (1 − p). We carry out an extensive analysis of this model. Finally, we obtain some important performance measures and reliability indices of this model.  相似文献

We introduce a simple approach for modeling and analyzing a SII/G/I queue where the server may take repeated vacations. Whenever a busy period ends the server takes a vacation of random duration. At the end of each vacation the server may either take a new vacation or resume service; if the queue is found empty the server always takes a new vacation. Furthermore, the queuing system allows Bernoulli feedback of customers. Three classes of service disciplines, random gated, 1-limited and exhaustive, are considered. The random gated service discipline generalizes several known service disciplines. The customers arrival process is assumed to be a Levy process (i.e., satisfies the stationary and independent increments (SII property). We obtain explicit expressions for several performance measures of the system. These performance measures include the mean and second moment of the cycle time, the mean queue length at the beginning of a cycle of service and the expected delay observed by a customer. Furthermore, our analysis provides a uniform method to get several results previously obtained by Baba, Chiarawongse and Sriniwasan, and Takine, Takagi and Hasegawa.  相似文献

Socially optimal behavior can be achieved through the cooperation of the participating agents with a central planner. What happens when only a fraction of the population cooperates? We investigate this question in a Markovian single server queue. The main result is non-intuitive: the optimal control of cooperative customers is independent of their proportion. We also conclude that the gain from controlling cooperative customers after they join the queue is relatively small.  相似文献

The problem addressed in this paper is to compare the minimum cost of the two randomized control policies in the M/G/1 queueing system with an unreliable server, a second optional service, and general startup times. All arrived customers demand the first required service, and only some of the arrived customers demand a second optional service. The server needs a startup time before providing the first required service until the system becomes empty. After all customers are served in the queue, the server immediately takes a vacation and the system operates the (T, p)-policy or (p, N)-policy. For those two policies, the expected cost functions are established to determine the joint optimal threshold values of (T, p) and (p, N), respectively. In addition, we obtain the explicit closed form of the joint optimal solutions for those two policies. Based on the minimal cost, we show that the optimal (p, N)-policy indeed outperforms the optimal (T, p)-policy. Numerical examples are also presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

An M/G/1 retrial queueing system with disasters and unreliable server is investigated in this paper. Primary customers arrive in the system according to a Poisson process, and they receive service immediately if the server is available upon their arrivals. Otherwise, they will enter a retrial orbit and try their luck after a random time interval. We assume the catastrophes occur following a Poisson stream, and if a catastrophe occurs, all customers in the system are deleted immediately and it also causes the server’s breakdown. Besides, the server has an exponential lifetime in addition to the catastrophe process. Whenever the server breaks down, it is sent for repair immediately. It is assumed that the service time and two kinds of repair time of the server are all arbitrarily distributed. By applying the supplementary variables method, we obtain the Laplace transforms of the transient solutions and also the steady-state solutions for both queueing measures and reliability quantities of interest. Finally, numerical inversion of Laplace transforms is carried out for the blocking probability of the system, and the effects of several system parameters on the blocking probability are illustrated by numerical inversion results.  相似文献

We study the workload (unfinished work) and the waiting time of the queueing system with MAP arrivals under D-policy. The D-policy stipulates that the idle server begin to serve the customers only when the sum of the service times of all waiting customers exceeds some fixed threshold D. We first set up the system equations for workload and obtain the steady-state distributions of workloads at an arbitrary idle and busy points of time. We then proceed to obtain the waiting time distribution of an arbitrary customer based on the workload results. The M/G/1/D-policy queue will be investigated as a special case.  相似文献
