This paper constructs an alternative network DEA model that embodies the internal structure for supply chain performance evaluation. We take the perspective of organization mechanism to deal with the complex interactions in supply chain. Three different network DEA models are introduced under the concept of centralized, decentralized and mixed organization mechanisms, respectively. Efficiency analysis including the relationship between supply chain and divisions, and the relationship among the three different organization mechanisms are discussed. As a further extension, we investigate internal resource waste in supply chain.  相似文献

There is a general interest in ranking schemes applied to complex entities described by multiple attributes. Published rankings for universities are in great demand but are also highly controversial. We compare two classification and ranking schemes involving universities; one from a published report, ‘Top American Research Universities’ by the University of Florida's TheCenter and the other using DEA. Both approaches use the same data and model. We compare the two methods and discover important equivalences. We conclude that the critical aspect in classification and ranking is the model. This suggests that DEA is a suitable tool for these types of studies.  相似文献

Within data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a sub-group of papers in which many researchers have sought to improve the differential capabilities of DEA and to fully rank both efficient, as well as inefficient, decision-making units. The ranking methods have been divided in this paper into six, somewhat overlapping, areas. The first area involves the evaluation of a cross-efficiency matrix, in which the units are self and peer evaluated. The second idea, generally known as the super-efficiency method, ranks through the exclusion of the unit being scored from the dual linear program and an analysis of the change in the Pareto Frontier. The third grouping is based on benchmarking, in which a unit is highly ranked if it is chosen as a useful target for many other units. The fourth group utilizes multivariate statistical techniques, which are generally applied after the DEA dichotomic classification. The fifth research area ranks inefficient units through proportional measures of inefficiency. The last approach requires the collection of additional, preferential information from relevant decision-makers and combines multiple-criteria decision methodologies with the DEA approach. However, whilst each technique is useful in a specialist area, no one methodology can be prescribed here as the complete solution to the question of ranking.  相似文献

So far numerous models have been proposed for ranking the efficient decision-making units (DMUs) in data envelopment analysis (DEA). But, the most shortcoming of these models is their two-stage orientation. That is, firstly we have to find efficient DMUs and then rank them. Another flaw of some of these models, like AP-model (A procedure for ranking efficient units in data envelopment analysis, Management Science, 39 (10) (1993) 1261–1264), is existence of a non-Archimedean number in their objective function. Besides, when there is more than one weak efficient unit (or non-extreme efficient unit) these models could not rank DMUs. In this paper, we employ hyperplanes of the production possibility set (PPS) and propose a new method for complete ranking of DMUs in DEA. The proposed approach is a one stage method which ranks all DMUs (efficient and inefficient). In addition to ranking, the proposed method determines the type of efficiency for each DMU, simultaneously. Numerical examples are given to show applicability of the proposed method.  相似文献

Cook and Kress (1990), using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as their starting point, proposed a procedure to rank order the candidates in a preferential election. Notionally, each candidate is permitted to choose the most favourable weights to be applied to his/her standings (first place, second place, etc. votes) in the usual DEA manner with the additional ‘assurance region’ restriction that the weight for a j place vote should be more than that for a j +1 amount. We consider that this freedom to choose weights is essentially illusory when maximum discrimination between the candidates is sought, in which case the weights used to evaluate and rank the candidates are as if imposed externally at the outset. To avoid this, we present an alternative procedure which retains Cook and Kress' central idea but where, as well as using each candidate's rating of him/herself, we now make use of each candidate's ratings of all the candidates. We regard the so-called cross-evaluation matrix as the summary of a self- and peer-rating process in which the candidates seek to interpret the voters preferences as favourably for themselves, relative to the other candidates, as possible. The problem then becomes one of establishing an overall rating for each candidate from these individual ratings. For this, for each candidate, we use a weighted average of all the candidates ratings of that candidate, where the weights themselves are in proportion to each candidate's overall rating. The overall ratings are therefore proportional to the components of the principal (left-hand) eigenvector of the cross-evaluation matrix. These ideas are then applied to the selection of R & D projects to comprise an R & D program, thus indicating thier wider applicability.  相似文献

The contribution of this paper is to provide an approach for evaluating the performance of a group of decision making units (DMUs) based on the production technology. Group evaluation is an application of data envelopment analysis (DEA). DEA uses linear programming to provide a suitable technique to estimate a multiple-input/multiple-output empirical efficient function. The purpose of this study is to develop a new method which provides for given inputs and outputs the best common weights for all the units that discriminate optimally between the efficient and inefficient units as pregiven by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), in order to rank all the units on the same scale. This new method, Discriminant Data Envelopment Analysis of Ratios (DR/DEA), presents a further post-optimality analysis of DEA for organizational units when their multiple inputs and outputs are given. We construct the ratio between the composite output and the composite input, where their common weights are computed by a new non-linear optimization of goodness of separation between the two pregiven groups. A practical use of DR/DEA is that the common weights may be utilized for ranking the units on a unified scale. DR/DEA is a new use of a two-group discriminant criterion that has been presented here for ratios, rather than the traditional discriminant analysis which applies to a linear function. Moreover, non-parametric statistical tests are employed to verify the consistency between the classification from DEA (efficient and inefficient units) and the post-classification as generated by DR/DEA.  相似文献

Alirezaee and Afsharian [1] have proposed a new index, namely, Balance Index, to rank DMUs. In this paper, we will use their examples to illustrate that the proposed index is not stable. As a result, the corresponding rankings are also unstable. Then we analyze where an error occurs in the new method for complete ranking of decision making units and amend it by introducing the Maximal Balance Index. The partial label ranking problem is a general interpretation of the preference learning scenario known as the label ranking problem, the goal of which is to learn preference classifiers able to predict a complete ranking with ties over the finite set of labels of the class variable. In this paper, we use unsupervised discretization techniques (equal-frequency and equal-width binning) to heuristically select the threshold for the numerical features in the algorithms based on induction of decision trees (partial label ranking trees algorithm). Moreover, we adapt the most well-known averaging (bootstrap aggregating and random forests) and boosting (adaptive boosting) ensemble methods to the partial label ranking problem, in order to improve the robustness of the built classifiers. We compare the proposed methods with the nearest neighbors-based algorithm (instance based partial label ranking) over the standard benchmark datasets, showing that our versions of the ensemble methods are superior in terms of accuracy. Furthermore, they are affordable in terms of computational efficiency.  相似文献

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a technique for evaluating relative efficiencies of peer decision making units (DMUs) which have multiple performance measures. These performance measures have to be classified as either inputs or outputs in DEA. DEA assumes that higher output levels and/or lower input levels indicate better performance. This study is motivated by the fact that there are performance measures (or factors) that cannot be classified as an input or output, because they have target levels with which all DMUs strive to achieve in order to attain the best practice, and any deviations from the target levels are not desirable and may indicate inefficiency. We show how such performance measures with target levels can be incorporated in DEA. We formulate a new production possibility set by extending the standard DEA production possibility set under variable returns-to-scale assumption based on a set of axiomatic properties postulated to suit the case of targeted factors. We develop three efficiency measures by extending the standard radial, slacks-based, and Nerlove–Luenberger measures. We illustrate the proposed model and efficiency measures by applying them to the efficiency evaluation of 36 US universities.  相似文献

An appropriate performance measurement system is an important requirement for the effective management of a supply chain. Two hurdles are present in measuring the performance of a supply chain and its members. One is the existence of multiple measures that characterize the performance of chain members, and for which data must be acquired; the other is the existence of conflicts between the members of the chain with respect to specific measures. Conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) cannot be employed directly to measure the performance of supply chain and its members, because of the existence of the intermediate measures connecting the supply chain members. In this paper it is shown that a supply chain can be deemed as efficient while its members may be inefficient in DEA-terms. The current study develops several DEA-based approaches for characterizing and measuring supply chain efficiency when intermediate measures are incorporated into the performance evaluation. The models are illustrated in a seller-buyer supply chain context, when the relationship between the seller and buyer is treated first as one of leader-follower, and second as one that is cooperative. In the leader-follower structure, the leader is first evaluated, and then the follower is evaluated using information related to the leader's efficiency. In the cooperative structure, the joint efficiency which is modelled as the average of the seller's and buyer's efficiency scores is maximized, and both supply chain members are evaluated simultaneously. Non-linear programming problems are developed to solve these new supply chain efficiency models. It is shown that these DEA-based non-linear programs can be treated as parametric linear programming problems, and best solutions can be obtained via a heuristic technique. The approaches are demonstrated with a numerical example.  相似文献

Employing a hedonic price approach within a framework of central tendencies no conclusive results about the impact of auction houses on final prices of art objects have been found. In order to focus on auction houses as a unit we have applied a benchmarking technique, DEA, developed for efficiency studies. New performance indicators are developed and calculated giving an insight into auction house differences impossible to obtain using hedonic price approach. The performance indicators may also be regarded as quality indicators assuming perfect arbitrage leads to the same unobservable quality of art object obtaining the same price.  相似文献

A bootstrap test is developed for testing models specified by Goodman in 1985 and 1986 for the correspondence analysis of two-way contingency tables. It enables testing goodness-of-fit in relation with the usual matrix decomposition method. An approximate table of critical values for the proposed test statistic is presented. Bootstrap confidence interval construction is also included. The behaviour of the test statistic and the confidence intervals is studied using Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

This paper deals with the evaluation of decision making units which have multiple inputs and outputs. A new method (CCA/DEA) is developed where the Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) is utilized to provide a full rank scaling for all the units rather than a categorical classification (for efficient and inefficient units) as done by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The CCA/DEA approach is an attempt to bridge the gap between the frontier approach of DEA and the average tendencies of statistics (econometrics). Nonparametric statistical tests are employed to validate the consistency between the classification from the DEA and the postclassification that was generated by the CCA/DEA.  相似文献
