Rapidity and multiplicity distributions are calculated for the hadrons produced ine +e? annihilation and deep inelastic muon-proton collisions for c.m. energies of 10 to 40 GeV. The hypothesis of longitudinal phase space dominance leads to a probability distribution which is identical to that of a grand canonical ensemble of non-interacting particles. We successfully describe experimental rapidity distributions, domains of Feynman-x scaling and scaling violations and the rapidity dependence of the mean transverse momentum. Multiplicity distributions are derived to be close to negative binomial distributions even for finite rapidity intervals. The plateau in the rapidity distribution is the origin for the negative binomial distribution in multiplicity. The mean number of hadrons of each species and the mean overall transverse momentum are the main input parameters in our calculation and are taken from experiment.  相似文献

We present a study of the final state structure in proton-proton collisions (√s = 53 GeV) where a large transverse momentum π0 (pt > 2 GeV/c) is produced at an angle of 90°. Charged secondaries have been detected and momentum analysed in the split field magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. The large angular coverage of this detector extends over ±2.5 units of rapidity and ±30° of azimuth with respect to the trigger π0, both towards and away from it. In each of these directions, where we observe similar strong correlations, we present charged particle distributions, in rapidity and momentum. In the hemisphere containing the trigger π0 we have measured the cross section for inclusive production of large transverse momentum ?± mesons. In the opposite hemisphere the data exhibit several features predicted by hard scattering quark-parton models: coplanarity and short-range rapidity correlation for the large transverse momentum secondaries as well as a transverse momentum sharing distribution similar to that observed in deep inelastic electro-production and in e+e? collisions.  相似文献

The transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of net protons and negatively charged hadrons have been measured for minimum bias proton–nucleus and deuteron–gold interactions, as well as central oxygen–gold and sulphur–nucleus collisions at 200 GeV per nucleon. The rapidity density of net protons at midrapidity in central nucleus–nucleus collisions increases both with target mass for sulphur projectiles and with the projectile mass for a gold target. The shape of the rapidity distributions of net protons forward of midrapidity for d+Au and central S+Au collisions is similar. The average rapidity loss is larger than 2 units of rapidity for reactions with the gold target. The transverse momentum spectra of net protons for all reactions can be described by a thermal distribution with ‘temperatures’ between MeV (p+S interactions) and MeV (central S+Au collisions). The multiplicity of negatively charged hadrons increases with the mass of the colliding system. The shape of the transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged hadrons changes from minimum bias p+p and p+S interactions to p+Au and central nucleus-nucleus collisions. The mean transverse momentum is almost constant in the vicinity of midrapidity and shows little variation with the target and projectile masses. The average number of produced negatively charged hadrons per participant baryon increases slightly from p+p, p+A to central S+S,Ag collisions. In the framework of the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model, the effect of the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential on nuclear transverse and elliptic flows in the neutron-rich reaction 132Sn+124Sn at a beam energy of 400MeV/nucleon is studied. We find that the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential affects the rapidity distribution of the free neutron to proton ratio, the neutron and the proton transverse flows as a function of rapidity. The momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential affects the neutron-proton differential transverse flow more evidently than the difference of neutron and proton transverse flows as well as the difference of proton and neutron elliptic flows. It is thus better to probe the symmetry energy by using the difference of neutron and proton flows since the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential is still an open question. And it is better to probe the momentum dependence of nuclear symmetry potential by using the neutron-proton differential transverse flow the rapidity distribution of the free neutron to proton ratio.  相似文献

Inclusive cross sections for Higgs boson production in proton-proton collisions are calculated in the formalism of unintegrated gluon distributions (UGDFs). Different UGDFs from the literature are used. Although they were constructed in order to describe the HERA deep-inelastic scattering F2 data, they lead to surprisingly different results for Higgs boson production. We present both the two-dimensional invariant cross section as a function of Higgs boson rapidity and transverse momentum, as well as the corresponding projections on rapidity or transverse momentum. We quantify the differences between different UGDs by applying different cuts on interrelations between the transverse momentum of the Higgs and the transverse momenta of both fusing gluons. We focus on the large rapidity region. The interplay of the gluon-gluon fusion and weak-boson fusion in rapidity and transverse momentum is discussed. We find that above pt ∼ 50–100 GeV the weak-gauge boson fusion dominates over gluon-gluon fusion. PACS. 12.38.Bx,12.38.Cy,13.85.Qk,14.70.Hp,14.80.Bn  相似文献

The vector bosons production at the Large Hadron Collider makes it possible to investigate in detail the basic structure of electroweak interactions. Besides the LHC with a good accuracy will be measure production of weak bosons (ppW+W). The production of weak bosons with photon (ppW+Wγ) provides an increasingly powerful handle at higher center-of-mass energies. We present phenomenological results for WWγ production in proton-proton interaction at the Large Hadron Collider. In this paper, we calculate the total and differential cross sections. We consider the dependence of differential cross section distributions on transverse momentum and rapidity particles, which are produced in the final state (W+ and W). We consider several important distributions, which are included in the search for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider. The results for transverse momentum distributions, rapidity distributions and total cross section are presented.

We examine the QCD evolution of the helicity and transversity parton distribution functions when including also their dependence on transverse momentum. Using an appropriate definition of these polarized transverse momentum distributions (TMDs), we describe their dependence on the factorization scale and rapidity cutoff, which is essential for phenomenological applications.  相似文献

A study of Bose–Einstein correlations in pairs of identically charged pions produced in e+e- annihilations at the Z0 peak has been performed for the first time assuming a non-static emitting source. The results are based on the high statistics data obtained with the OPAL detector at LEP. The correlation functions have been analyzed in intervals of the average pair transverse momentum and of the pair rapidity, in order to study possible correlations between the pion production points and their momenta (position–momentum correlations). The Yano–Koonin and the Bertsch–Pratt parameterizations have been fitted to the measured correlation functions to estimate the geometrical parameters of the source as well as the velocity of the source elements with respect to the overall centre-of-mass frame. The source rapidity is found to scale approximately with the pair rapidity, and both the longitudinal and transverse source dimensions are found to decrease for increasing average pair transverse momenta.  相似文献

We describe high energy nuclear collisions by a superposition of isotropically decaying thermal sources (“fireballs”) of freeze-out temperature T = 0.15 GeV. The longitudinal fireball superposition is taken as boost-invariant, in a rapidity range determined by the average energy loss of nucleons in p?p collisions. The transverse fireball motion is assumed to be due to random walk initial state collisions; it is determined by p?A data and then extrapolated to central A?B interactions. We thus obtain parameter-free predictions for the rapidity and transverse momentum spectra of hadrons produced in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. The results account fully for the observed broadening of transverse momentum distributions, so that single-particle spectra require neither collective flow nor temperature increase.  相似文献

A 4π charged particle detector array with a low velocity threshold has been used to detect the products from reactions induced by 36Ar on 27Al at energies ranging from 55 to 95 MeV/u. Well characterized events were selected and sorted as a function of the impact parameter. Two methods were used for sorting these events with respect to their impact parameters and three methods were compared to determine the reaction plane. The transverse momentum analysis has been found to be the best method to extract the direction of the reaction plane for this system and for the experimental set-up used here. The energy of vanishing flow for central collisions has been found to be around 90–95 MeV/u. The azimuthal distributions of mid-rapidity particles exhibit a preferential in-plane emission and no squeeze-out effect.  相似文献

New results on transverse mass spectra of neutral pions measured at central rapidity are presented for impact parameter selected 200 GeV S + S and S + Au collisions. The distributions cover more than 8 orders of magnitude in cross section over the range . Detailed comparisons to results from pp collisions are made. The spectra from all systems show a clear power-law like shape with similar curvature. Collisions of S + Au exhibit a larger mean transverse momentum than pp increasing with centrality. Predictions of string models and by hydrodynamic approaches including collective expansion and decays of short lived resonances are compared to the data and the implications are discussed. Incoherent nuclear interactions of 21 GeV/c protons and 50 GeV/cπ ?-mesons in emulsions exposed in a strong (180 kG) magnetic field have been investigated. The following topics are covered: the multiplicity of various types of charges secondaries, general features of one-particle rapidity and transverse momentum distributions, energy partitions among secondaries, characteristics of the leading particles and relativistic recoil protons, correlation relations. The experimental data are compared with predictions of current models of nuclear production.  相似文献

Transverse momentum distribution of gauge bosons W± and Z0 is calculated using unintegrated parton distributions obtained by solving leading order CCFM equation(s) in the impact parameter space. For illustration we compare the results of the fixed-order collinear, soft-gluon resummation and CCFM approaches. A parameter of a nonperturbative form factor is adjusted to the D0 data. In contrast to the collinear approach, the leading order calculation based on the unintegrated CCFM parton distributions generates transverse momentum distributions of gauge bosons, which are almost consistent with experimental data provided the parameter of the nonperturbative form factor is appropriately adjusted. The W+W asymmetry is calculated as a function of the boson rapidity and transverse momentum. Predictions are given for RHIC and LHC.  相似文献

Invariant single-particle cross sections for pion and proton production in π±p interactions at 8 and 16 GeV/c are presented in terms of integrated distributions as functions of x, reduced rapidity ζ and p2, and also in terms of double differential cross sections E d2σ/(dx dp2) and dζ dp2). A comparison of π± and π? induced reactions is made and the energy dependence is discussed. It is shown that the single-particle structure function cannot be factorized in its dependece on transverse and longitudinal momentum. For the beam-unlike pion, there is an indication for factorizability in terms of rapidity and transverse momentum in a small central region.  相似文献

The rapidity densities at mid-rapidity and the transverse momentum distributions for strange hadrons produced in pp collisions are analyzed using the modified PACIAE model by considering the effect of inelastic (re)scattering processes s→gg and gg→s in parton (re)scattering. The calculated results of the transverse momentum spectra of the strangeness fitting with data measured by STAR and ALICE Collaborations can be improved, especially at large transverse momentum levels. This demonstrates that the effect of inelastic (re)scattering processes of s→gg and gg→s is not negligible at RHIC and LHC energy levels.  相似文献

Rapidity-dependent transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged pions measured at different rapidities in proton-proton collisions at the Super Proton Synchrotron(SPS) at various energies within its Beam Energy Scan(BES) program are investigated by using one-and two-component standard distributions where the chemical potential and spin property of particles are implemented. The rapidity spectra are described by a doubleGaussian distribution. At the stage of kinetic freeze-out, the event patterns are structured by the scatter plots in the three-dimensional subspaces of velocity, momentum and rapidity. The results of the studies of the rapidityindependent transverse mass spectra measured at mid-rapidity in proton-proton collisions are compared with those based on the similar transverse mass spectra measured in the most central beryllium-beryllium, argon-scandium and lead-lead collisions from the SPS at its BES energies.  相似文献

Charge asymmetry in pp reactions at 22.4 GeV/c is investigated as a function of transverse momentum in the c.m. rapidity interval |y1| < 1. The charge asymmetries in the forward and backward directions are increasing with increasing transverse momentum. The increase seems to be present both in annihilation and non-annihilation processes.  相似文献

We use transport theory to describe the inclusive cross sections for protons and pions produced in collisions between two identical heavy ions at an energy of 800 MeV per particle. In addition to the nucleonic we take the Δ-degree of freedom into account. Thus we consider a two-component system whose distributions in transverse momentum and rapidity we describe by two coupled Fokker-Planck equations. These transport equations contain the one-nucleon knock-out process as initial condition. In the limit of large interaction times they lead to thermal equilibrium (fireball) distributions. For light nuclei the interaction time is not large enough for equilibrium to be reached. A recent experiment for two colliding carbon nuclei at 800 MeV per nucleon shows evidence of nonequilibrium effects. We compare our calculations with experimental data for 12C on 12C and Ne on NaF at 800 MeV/N.  相似文献
