A uniform asymptotic expansion of the single variable Bell polynomials   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, we investigate the uniform asymptotic behavior of the single variable Bell polynomials on the negative real axis, to which all zeros belong. It is found that there exists an ascending sequence {Zk}1(−e,0) such that the polynomials are represented by a finite sum of infinite asymptotic series, each in terms of the Airy function and its derivative, and the number of series under this sum is 1 in the interval (−∞,Z1) and k+1 in [Zk,Zk+1), k1. Furthermore, it is shown that an asymptotic expansion, also in terms of Airy function and its derivative, completed with error bounds, holds uniformly in (−∞,−δ] for positive δ.  相似文献

Let   Q ( x ) = q 2 m x 2 m + q 2 m −1 x 2 m −1+⋯  be a polynomial of degree 2 m with   q 2 m > 0  , and let  {π n ( x )} n ≥1  be the sequence of monic polynomials orthogonal with respect to the weight   w ( x ) = e − Q ( x )  on     . Furthermore, let  α n   and  β n   denote the Mhaskar–Rakhmanov–Saff (MRS) numbers associated with Q ( x ). By using the Riemann–Hilbert approach, an asymptotic expansion is constructed for  π n ( cnz + dn )  , which holds uniformly for all z bounded away from  (−∞, −1)  , where     and     .  相似文献

We provide a rapid and accurate method for calculating the prolate and oblate spheroidal wave functions (PSWFs and OSWFs),   Smn ( c , η)  , and their eigenvalues,  λ mn   , for arbitrary complex size parameter c in the asymptotic regime of large  | c |  , m and n fixed. The ability to calculate these SWFs for large and complex size parameters is important for many applications in mathematics, engineering, and physics. For arbitrary  arg( c )  , the PSWFs and their eigenvalues are accurately expressed by established prolate -type or oblate -type asymptotic expansions. However, determining the proper expansion type is dependent upon finding spheroidal branch points,   c mn ○; r   , in the complex c -plane where the PSWF alternates expansion type due to analytic continuation. We implement a numerical search method for tabulating these branch points as a function of spheroidal parameters m , n , and  arg( c )  . The resulting table allows rapid determination of the appropriate asymptotic expansion type of the SWFs. Normalizations, which are dependent on c , are derived for both the prolate - and oblate -type asymptotic expansions and for both  ( n − m )  even and odd. The ordering for these expansions is different from the original ordering of the SWFs and is dictated by the location of   c mn ○; r   . We document this ordering for the specific case of  arg( c ) =π/4  , which occurs for the diffusion equation in spheroidal coordinates. Some representative values of  λ mn   and   Smn ( c , η)  for large, complex c are also given.  相似文献

Asymptotic expansions of Stieltjes and generalized Stieltjes transforms of functions having an asymptotic expansion in negative integer powers of their variable have been exhaustively investigated by R. Wong. In this article, we extend this analysis to Stieltjes and generalized Stieltjes transforms of functions having an asymptotic expansion in negative rational powers of their variable. Distributional approach is used to derive asymptotic expansions of the Stieltjes and generalized Stieltjes transforms of this kind of functions for large values of the parameter(s) of the transformation. Error bounds are obtained at any order of the approximation for a large family of integrands. The asymptotic approximation of an integral involved in the calculation of the mass renormalization of the quantum scalar field and of the third symmetric elliptic integral are given as illustrations.  相似文献

We use singular perturbation methods to analyze a diffusion equation that arose in studying two tandem queues. Denoting by p ( n 1,  n 2) the probability that there are n 1 customers in the first queue and n 2 customers in the second queue, we obtain the approximation p ( n 1,  n 2)∼ɛ2 P ( X ,  Y )=ɛ2 P (ɛ n 1, ɛ n 2), where ɛ is a small parameter. The diffusion approximation P satisfies an elliptic PDE with a nondiagonal diffusion matrix and boundary conditions that involve both normal and tangential derivatives. We analyze the boundary value problem using the ray method of geometrical optics and other singular perturbation techniques. This yields the asymptotic behavior of P ( X ,  Y ) for X and/or Y large.  相似文献

In this paper, we compute the expectation of traces of powers of the Hermitian matrix Jacobi process for a large enough but fixed size. To proceed, we first derive the semi-group density of its eigenvalues process as a bilinear series of symmetric Jacobi polynomials. Next, we use the expansion of power sums in the Schur polynomial basis and the integral Cauchy–Binet formula in order to determine the partitions having nonzero contributions after integration. It turns out that these are hooks of bounded weight and the sought expectation results from the integral of a product of two Schur functions with respect to a generalized beta distribution. For special values of the parameters on which the matrix Jacobi process depends, the last integral reduces to the Cauchy determinant and we close the paper with the investigation of the asymptotic behavior of the resulting formula as the matrix size tends to infinity.  相似文献

We consider a problem of optimal control through a part of the boundary of solutions to an elliptic equation in a bounded domain with smooth boundary with a small parameter at the Laplace operator and integral constraints on the control. A complete asymptotic expansion of the solution to this problems in powers of the small parameter is constructed.  相似文献

In this paper the asymptotic behavior of the Castelnuovo$ndash;Mumford regularity of powers of a homogeneous ideal I is studied. It is shown that there is a linear bound for the regularity of the powers I whose slope is the maximum degree of a homogeneous generator of I, and that the regularity of I is a linear function for large n. Similar results hold for the integral closures of the powers of I. On the other hand we give examples of ideal for which the regularity of the saturated powers is asymptotically not a linear function, not even a linear function with periodic coefficients.  相似文献

An asymptotic expansion including error bounds is given for polynomials {P n, Qn} that are biorthogonal on the unit circle with respect to the weight function (1?e)α+β(1?e?iθ)α?β. The asymptotic parameter isn; the expansion is uniform with respect toz in compact subsets ofC{0}. The pointz=1 is an interesting point, where the asymptotic behavior of the polynomials strongly changes. The approximants in the expansions are confluent hyper-geometric functions. The polynomials are special cases of the Gauss hyper-geometric functions. In fact, with the results of the paper it follows how (in a uniform way) the confluent hypergeometric function is obtained as the limit of the hypergeometric function2 F 1(a, b; c; z/b), asb→±∞,zb, withz=0 as “transition” point in the uniform expansion.  相似文献

We address the evaluation of highly oscillatory integrals, with power-law and logarithmic singularities.Such problems arise in numerical methods in engineering.Notably, the evaluation of oscillatory integrals dominates the run-time for wave-enriched boundary integral formulations for wave scattering, and many of these exhibit singularities. We show that the asymptotic behaviour of the integral depends on the integrand and its derivatives at the singular point of the integrand, the stationary points and the endpoints of the integral.A truncated asymptotic expansion achieves an error that decays faster for increasing frequency.Based on the asymptotic analysis,a Filon-type method is constructed to approximate the integral.Unlike an asymptotic expansion, the Filon method achieves high accuracy for both small and large frequency.Complex-valued quadrature involves interpolation at the zeros of polynomials orthogonal to a complex weight function.Numerical results indicate that the complex-valued Gaussian quadrature achieves the highest accuracy when the three methods are compared. However, while it achieves higher accuracy for the same number of function evaluations,it requires signi cant additional cost of computation of orthogonal polynomials and their zeros.  相似文献

Low Reynolds number fluid flow past a cylindrical body of arbitrary shape in an unbounded, two-dimensional domain is a singular perturbation problem involving an infinite logarithmic expansion in the small parameter ε, representing the Reynolds number. We apply a hybrid asymptotic–numerical method to compute the drag coefficient, C D and lift coefficient C L to within all logarithmic terms. The hybrid method solution involves a matrix M , depending only on the shape of the body, which we compute using a boundary integral method. We illustrate the hybrid method results on an elliptic object and on a more complicated profile.  相似文献

We consider a singularly perturbed convection–diffusion equation,     , defined on two domains: a quarter plane,  ( x , y ) ∈ (0, ∞) × (0, ∞)  , and an infinite strip,  ( x , y ) ∈ (−∞, ∞) × (0, 1)  . We consider for both problems discontinuous Dirichlet boundary conditions:   u ( x , 0) = 0  and   u (0, y ) = 1  for the first one and   u ( x , 0) =χ[ a , b ]( x )  and   u ( x , 1) = 0  for the second. For each problem, asymptotic expansions of the solution are obtained from an integral representation in two limits: (a) when the singular parameter  ε→ 0+  (with fixed distance r to the discontinuity points of the boundary condition) and (b) when that distance   r → 0+  (with fixed ε). It is shown that in both problems, the first term of the expansion at  ε= 0  is an error function or a combination of error functions. This term characterizes the effect of the discontinuities on the ε-behavior of the solution and its derivatives in the boundary or internal layers. On the other hand, near the discontinuities of the boundary condition, the solution u ( x , y ) of both problems is approximated by a linear function of the polar angle at the discontinuity points.  相似文献

A control problem for solutions of a boundary value problem for a second-order ordinary differential equation with a small parameter at the second derivative is considered on a closed interval. The control is scalar and subject to integral constraints. We construct a complete asymptotic expansion in powers of the small parameter in the Erdélyi sense.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive asymptotic formulas for the signless noncentral q -Stirling numbers of the first kind and for the corresponding series. The signless noncentral q -Stirling numbers of the first kind appear as coefficients of a polynomial of q -number [ t ] q , expressing the noncentral ascending q -factorial of t of order m and noncentrality parameter k . In this paper, we have two main purposes. The first is to give an expression by which we obtain the asymptotic behavior of these coefficients, using the saddle point method . The second main purpose is to derive an asymptotic expression for the signless noncentral q -Stirling of the first kind series by using the singularity analysis method. We then apply our first formula to provide asymptotic expressions for probability functions of the number of successes in m trials and of the number of trials until the occurrence of the n th success in sequences of Bernoulli trials with varying success probability which are both written in terms of the signless noncentral q -Stirling numbers of the first kind. In addition, we present some numerical calculations using the computer program MAPLE indicating that our expressions are close to the actual values of the signless noncentral q -Stirling numbers of the first kind and of the corresponding series even for moderate values of m .  相似文献

We consider Markovian queueing models with a finite number of states and a product form solution for its steady state probability distribution. Starting from the integral representation for the partition function in complex space we construct error bounds for its asymptotic expansion obtained by the saddle point method. The derivation of error bounds is based on an idea by Olver applicable to integral transforms with an exponentially decaying kernel. The bounds are expressed in terms of the supremum of a certain function and are asymptotic to the absolute value of the first neglected term in the expansion as the large parameter approaches infinity. The application of these error bounds is illustrated for two classes of queueing models: loss systems and single chain closed queueing networks.  相似文献

Bernoulli and Euler polynomials are considered for large values of the order. Convergent expansions are obtained for B n ( nz +1/2) and E n ( nz +1/2) in powers of n −1, and coefficients are rational functions of z and hyperbolic functions of argument 1/(2 z ). These expansions are uniformly valid for | z ± i /2π|>1/2π and | z ± i /π|1/π, respectively. For a real argument, the accuracy of these approximations is restricted to the monotonic region. The range of validity of the uniformity parameter z is enlarged, respectively, to regions of the form | z ± i /2( m +1)π|>1/2( m +1)π and | z ± i /(2 m +1)π|>1/(2 m +1)π, m =1,2,3,…, by adding certain combinations of incomplete gamma functions to these uniform expansions. In addition, the convergence of these improved expansions is stronger, and for a real argument, the accuracy of these improved approximations is also better in the oscillatory region.  相似文献

We provide an asymptotic expansion of the integral mean of a smooth function over the Heat ball. Namely we generalize to the Heat operator the so-called Pizzetti’s Formula, which expresses the integral mean of a smooth function over an Euclidean ball in terms of a power series with respect to the radius of the ball having the iterated of the ordinary Laplace operator as coefficients. Similarly here, we express the heat integral mean as a power series with respect to the radius of the heat ball, whose coefficients are powers of a distorted heat operator. We also discuss sufficient conditions to have a finite sum. Received: 27 May 2005  相似文献
