Two classes of Banach algebras which admit a matrix symbol of order 2 are described, and an explicit form of the symbol is obtained. Also we describe all polynomialsF(X, Y) andF(X, Y, Z) such that the norms of polynomialsF(B, B *) (whenB 2=0) andF(S, W, W * ) (whenS 2 =I, W 2 =0, S *=S) depend only on the polynomialF and on the norms B, W. The new definition of Volterra operator introduced in [5] allows specification of the classical theory of linear equations in Banach spaces to equations with such operators. Here we specially address relations between properties of the given linear equation with Volterra operator and properties of its conjugate. In this paper, the class of nonspreading mappings in Banach spaces is introduced. This class contains the recently introduced class of firmly nonexpansive type mappings in Banach spaces and the class of firmly nonexpansive mappings in Hilbert spaces. Among other things, we obtain a fixed point theorem for a single nonspreading mapping in Banach spaces. Using this result, we also obtain a common fixed point theorem for a commutative family of nonspreading mappings in Banach spaces. Received: 10 August 2007  相似文献

This article centers around the relation between the spectra of two Banach space operators that are linked by some intertwining condition such as quasi-similarity. Certain conditions from local spectral theory are shown to be both necessary and sufficient for these operators to have equal spectra, approximate point spectra, or surjectivity spectra. A key role is played by a localized version of Bishop’s classical property (β) and a related closed range condition. As an application to harmonic analysis, the measures on a locally compact abelian group that avoid the Wiener-Pitt phenomenon are characterized in terms of local spectral theory.  相似文献

This paper centers on local spectral conditions that are both necessary and sufficient for the equality of the essential spectra of two bounded linear operators on complex Banach spaces that are intertwined by a pair of bounded linear mappings. In particular, if the operators T and S are intertwined by a pair of injective operators, then S is Fredholm provided that T is Fredholm and S has property (δ) in a neighborhood of 0. In this case, ind(T) ≤ ind(S), and equality holds precisely when the eigenvalues of the adjoint T* do not cluster at 0. By duality, we obtain refinements of results due to Putinar, Takahashi, and Yang concerning operators with Bishop’s property (β) intertwined by pairs of operators with dense range. Moreover, we establish an extension of a result due to Eschmeier that, under appropriate assumptions regarding the single-valued extension property, leads to necessary and sufficient conditions for quasi-similar operators to have equal essential spectra. In particular it turns out that the single-valued extension property plays an essential role in the preservation of the index in this context.   相似文献

In this paper we study in Banach spaces the existence of fixed points of (nonlinear) asymptotically regular semigroups. We establish for these semigroups some fixed point theorems in spaces with weak uniform normal structure, in a Hilbert space, inL p spaces, in Hardy spacesH p and in Sobolev spacesW r.p for 1<p<∞ andr≥0, in spaces with Lifshitz’s constant greater than one. We establish a necessary and sufficient criterion for the Fredholmness of a general locally compact band-dominated operator A on and solve the long-standing problem of computing its Fredholm index in terms of the limit operators of A. The purpose of this paper is to prove a strong convergence theorem for a finite family of uniformly L-Lipschitzian mappings in Banach spaces. The results presented in the paper improve and extend some recent results in Chang [1], Cho et al. [2] Ofoedu [5], Schu [7] and Zeng [8, 9]. It is shown that if 1 < p < ∞ and X is a subspace or a quotient of an ℓp-direct sum of finite dimensional Banach spaces, then for any compact operator T on X such that ∥I + T∥ > 1, the operator IT attains its norm. A reflexive Banach space X and a bounded rank one operator T on X are constructed such that ∥I + T∥  > 1 and IT does not attain its norm. The author would like to thank E. A ternary term m(x, y, z) of an algebra is called a majority term if the algebra satisfies the identities m(x, x, y) = x, m(x, y, x) = x and m(y, x, x) = x. A congruence α of a finite algebra is called uniform if all of its blocks (i.e., classes) have the same number of elements. In particular, if all the α-blocks are two-element then α is said to be a 2-uniform congruence. If all congruences of A are uniform then A is said to be a uniform algebra. Answering a problem raised by Gr?tzer, Quackenbush and Schmidt [2], Kaarli [3] has recently proved that uniform finite lattices are congruence permutable. In connection with Kaarli’s result, our main theorem states that for every finite algebra A with a majority term any two 2-uniform congruences of A permute. Examples show that we can say neither “algebra” instead of “algebra with a majority term”, nor “3-uniform” instead of “2-uniform”. Given two nonempty sets A and B, each relation gives rise to a pair of closure operators, which are called the Galois closures on A and B induced by ρ. Galois closures play an important role in many parts of algebra, and they play the main role in formal concept analysis founded by Wille [4]. In order to prove our main theorem, we introduce a pair of smaller closure operators induced by ρ. These closure operators will hopefully find further applications in the future.
