We present here an analysis of the reaction pp→ppπ+π at 8.1 GeV/c in terms of the two multi-Regge models proposed by Chan, ;oskiewicz and Allison and by Berger et al. in which we introduce some modifications to improve the agreement between experimental data and theoretical results. Comparison between various experimental distributions and corresponding theoretical curves is satisfactory with a very simple parametrization in both models.  相似文献

A sample of 8000 interactions of 250 GeV/c π+ andK + mesons on Al and Au nuclei, is used to search for intermittency effects by calculating the normalized factorial moments of order two to four. No significant effect is observed in the higher moments. Two-body rapidity correlations and Bose-Einstein correlations in these interactions are presented.  相似文献

Inelastic final states with one or two leading hadrons are studied in π+p and K+p interactions at 250 GeV/c. In reactions with two leading hadrons, the dependence of the average charge multiplicity of associated pions on their effective mass is essentially consistent with that observed in p?p and γγ-collisions, but differs from that obtained in e+e? -annihilation. The multiplicity and (semi)inclusive characteristics of the π+-induced non-diffractive reactions are compared to predictions of current versions of the FRITIOF fragmentation model. We show that the hard-like sub-processes, essentially responsible for the production of leading hadrons with relatively large transverse momentum as well as for the relatively large multiplicity of associated pions, are not properly treated in the model.  相似文献

A partial wave analysis of the 3π-system has been performed for the reaction π+p→ (π+π?π0) Δ++ (1232) at 16 GeV/c. Beside the well-established A20 (1300), the resonant state ω* with isospin I = 0 and spin-parity JP = 3? decaying mainly into (?π) has been found. Its mass and width have been determined to be M = (1.71 ± 0.03) GeV and Γ = (0.22 ± 0.10) GeV. The cross section for the reaction π+p→ ω* (1700) Δ++ (1232) is σ = (12 ± 6) μb.  相似文献

The Drell-Yan and J/ψ cross-sections measured in Pb---Pb collisions are compared with the values extrapolated from the results obtained in proton and light ion induced reactions. While the Drell-Yan production exhibits the normal expected behaviour, the yield of J/ψ in Pb---Pb interactions is abnormally low, as it lies 9 standard deviations below the expected value. Moreover, the departure from the expected behaviour increases significantly from peripheral to central collisions.  相似文献

The transverse energy carried by charged hadrons and by mesons is studied in interactions of and K mesons with protons and nuclei at 250 GeV/c. The data obtained on transverse energy flow at mid-rapidity can be described by the FRITIOF7.0 model with tuned parameters. A new evaluation of the universal ππ scattering length relation is used to extract the ππ s-wave scattering lengths from threshold pion production data. Previous work has shown that the chiral perturbation series relating threshold pion production to ππ scattering lengths appears to converge well only for the isospin-2 case, giving a2 = −0.031 ± 0.007mπ−1. A model-independent and data-insensitive universal curve then implies a0 = 0.235 ± 0.03mπ−1 for the isospin-0 scattering length.  相似文献

The reactions πp → 2ππ+p, πp → 2ππ+πop and πp → 2π+n are analysed at 11 and 16 GeV/c using longitudinal phase space (LPS) plots. The weighted LPS distributions for πp → 2ππ+p is dominated by two well separated structures corresponding to single diffraction dissociation of the pion, πp → (2ππ+)p, and of the proton, πp → ππ+p). The former is more abundant than the latter, and both are approximately constant with energy. In contrast, processes of type πp → (2π)(πp) decrease with increasing energy.

In the five-body reactions the weighted LPS distribution reveals especially at 16 GeV/c a maximum for single dissociation of the proton into 3πp, namely πp → ππ+πop); this process is likely to be diffractive. The neutron channel has a corresponding maximum displaced toward a multiperipheral configuration πp → π+)n. Another strong maximum corresponds to the pion dissociation πp → (2ππ+πo)p. This is interpreted to be an ω-exchange process because no analogous structure occurs in πp → (2π+)n. Finally, a broad structure reveals double dissociation of both incident particles; it occurs in the two channels πp → (2ππ+)(πop) and πp → (2ππ+)(π+n), being stronger in the latter. Further analysis of this process in terms of isospin exchange suggests that it is partially diffractive. Factorization is also discussed.

An appendix gives general aspects of the LPS analysis for the asymptotic study of n-body collisions at very high energy.  相似文献

A detailed analysis of the inclusive production of the vector mesonsφ,K *+,0(892) \(\bar K*^0 (892),\rho ^{ + ,0} ,\omega \) and the tensor mesonsK 2 *0 )(1430) andf 2(1270) inK + p interactions at 250 GeV/c is presented The data are compared with results at lower energies and with various quark-parton models. The production ofρ 0,K *0(892) and \(\bar K*^0 (892)\) increases at the same rate as a function ofs, is concentrated in the central region and is not reproduced by the models. Production of the tensor mesonsf 2(1270) andK 2 *0 (1340) is suppressed relative toρ 0 andK *0(892) by a factor of about 3.  相似文献

The clustering of events in 7-dimensional phase space is studied in the reactions π±ppπ+π±π? at 16GeV/c. The Yang variables are used for locating events in the phase space. Clusters are defined and events are allocated by a novel iterative technique. This is based on a measure of the distance of each event from the cluster center, weighted by the covariance matrix of the event density. The clusters found are then related to reaction mechanisms such as diffraction dissociation of pion and proton, resonance production, etc. High mass enhancements in the (3π) system and in the (pπ+π?) system are identified and separated from other mechanisms. Cross sections are given for individual sub-channels and compared to results obtained by other techniques.  相似文献

We present the results of a study of the exclusive reactions π+ 4He → π 4p (double charge exchange, DCE) and π+ 4He → π+ π 3pn (one-pion production). The experiment was performed with the Oxford/RHEL helium bubble chamber irradiated with a 1.7 GeV/c π+ beam. A general review of DCE models is presented and experimental results at other energies are discussed in the light of these models. None of the existing theoretical models is compatible with out data at 1.7 GeV/c. We propose a new mechanism for DCE, involving three nucleons, which reproduces the integrated as well as the differential cross sections. From an exposure of the 30-inch deuterium filled bubble chamber to a 100 GeV/c antiproton-enriched beam at FNAL, we have calculated the topological cross sections for antiproton-neutron interactions with three or more charged particles in the final state. A comparison of our data with pn data at the same momentum allows us to estimate the annihilation contribution to each multiplicity, and hence calculate the average value, and width, of the annihilation multiplicity distribution. Our results are consistent with those from pp data at 100 GeV/c, but depart from the trend of lower-energy pp data.  相似文献

We have searched for narrow two-body enhancements produced in the forward direction in n-Be interactions near 250 GeV/c. We find no significant signal in any channel and report upper limits for charm production times branching rate to be 200–1000 nb/nucleon for masses in the range 1.7 ? m ? 3.5 GeV/c2.  相似文献

New results are reported on inclusive charged particle production inK + p,π + p andpp collisions at 250 GeV/c. Inclusive longitudinal and transverse momentum spectra of positively and negatively charged particles are presented. Scaling in the fragmentation regions and scaling violation in the central c.m. region is investigated in detail. The topological pseudo-rapidity densities are shown to scale in the c.m. energy range from 22 to 900 GeV. We analyze the supersymmetric contributions to direct–CP–violating observables in K→ππγ decays induced by gluino–mediated magnetic–penguin operators. We find that ε′+−γ and the differential width asymmetry of K±→π±π0γ decays could be substantially enhanced with respect to their Standard Model values, especially in the scenario where ε′/ε is dominated by supersymmetric contributions. These observables could therefore provide a useful tool to search for New Physics effects in |ΔS|=1 transitions, complementary to ε′/ε and rare decays.  相似文献

The inclusive production of neutral kaons is studied inK + p and π+ p interactions at 250 GeV/c. Total and semi-inclusive cross sections and average kaon multiplicities are presented and compared with the data at lower energies. The longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions and their energy dependence are analyzed. The results are interpreted in the framework of recent parton models.  相似文献
