Direct and inverse theorems for Bernstein polynomials with inner singularities

We introduce a new type of Bernstein polynomials, which can be used to approximate the functions with inner singularities. The direct and inverse results of the weighted approximation of this new type of combinations are obtained.

We consider the pointwise weighted approximation by Bernstein operators. The related weight functions are Jacobi weights . We obtain approximation equivalence theorems, using a weighted modulus of smoothness , which is an extension of~[5].

Della Vecchia et al. （see [2]） introduced a kind of modified Bernstein operators which can be used to approximate functions with singularities at endpoints on [0,1]. In the present paper, we obtain a kind of pointwise Stechkin-type inequalities for weighted approximation by the modified Bemsetin operators.

The authors give error estimates, a Voronovskaya-type relation, strong converse results and saturation for the weighted approximation of functions on the real line with Freud weights by Bernstein-type operators.

Distribution function estimates by Wasserstein metric and Bernstein approximation for C-1 functions

The aim of the paper is to estimate the density functions or distribution functions measured by Wasserstein metric, a typical kind of statistical distances, which is usually required in the statistical learningBased on the classical Bernstein approximation, a scheme is presented.To get the error estimates of the scheme, the problem turns to estimating the L1 norm of the Bernstein approximation for monotone C-1functions, which was rarely discussed in the classical approximation theoryFinally, we get a probability estimate by the statistical distance.

New representation of the remainder in the Bernstein approximation

This short note presents a new representation of the remainder in the Bernstein approximation based on divided differences and some immediate applications. It is the only known representation of the remainder in the Bernstein approximation of arbitrary functions as a convex combination of divided differences of second order on known knots. As an application we obtain sharp inequalities for functions possessing bounded divided differences of second order and a new proof of the classical Weierstrass approximation theorem.

WEIGHTED APPROXIMATION ON SZASZ—TYPE OPERATORS

In this paper, we use weighted modules ω(?)(f,t)w to study the pointwise approximation on Szasz-type operators, and obtain the direct and converse theorem, as well as characterizations of the pointwise approximation of Jacobi-weighted Szasz-type operators.     

An approximation of the surfaces areas using the classical Bernstein quadrature formula

In this article, we try to assign a place on the map of the closed Newton–Cotés quadrature formulas to a new approximation formula based on the classical Bernstein polynomials. We create a procedure for a computer implementation that allows us to verify the accuracy of the new approximation formula. In order to get a complete image of this kind of approximation, we compare some well‐known quadrature formulas. Although effective in most situations, there are instances when the composite quadrature formulas cannot be applied, as they use equally‐spaced nodes. We present also an adaptive method that is used to obtain better approximations and to minimize the number of function evaluations. Numerical examples are given to increase the validity of the theoretical aspects.     

Approximation of Generalized Bernstein Operators

This paper is devoted to study direct and converse approximation theorems of the generalized Bernstein operators Cn( f,sn,x) via so-called unified modulus ω2φλ( f,t), 0 ≤λ≤1. We obtain main results as follows ω2φλ( f,t) =O(tα)|Cn( f,sn,x)- f(x)| =O(n-12 δ1-λn(x))α,where δ2n(x) =max{φ2(x),1/n} and 0 α 2.

Numerical algorithms for Panjer recursion by applying Bernstein approximation

In actuarial science, Panjer recursion (1981) is used in insurance to compute the loss distribution of the compound risk models. When the severity distribution is continuous with density function, numerical calculation for the compound distribution by applying Panjer recursion will involve an approximation of the integration. In order to simplify the numerical algorithms, we apply Bernstein approximation for the continuous severity distribution function and obtain approximated recursive equations, which are used for computing the approximated values of the compound distribution. The theoretical error bound for the approximation is also obtained. Numerical results show that our algorithm provides reliable results.     

Pointwise simultaneous approximation by left gamma quasi-interpolants

Recently some classical operator quasi-interpolants were introduced to obtain much faster convergence.We consider left Gamma quasi-interpolants and give a pointwise simultaneous approximation equivalence theorem with ω2r(4)λ(f,f)∞ by means of unified the classical modulus and Ditzian-Totick modulus.     

On derivatives of Bernstein type rational functions of two variables

In this paper the author defines Bernstein type rational functions of two variables and prove the approximation theorems for the derivatives of them.     

Equivalent theorems on simultaneous approximation by combinations of Bernstein operatores

In this paper we give equivalent theorems on simultaneous approximation for the combinations of Bernstein operators by r-th Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness ωτψλ (f, t)(0 ≤λ≤ 1). We also investigate the relation between the derivatives of the combinations of Bernstein operators and the smoothness of derivatives of functions.     

Weighted approximation of functions by Szász--Mirakyan-type operators

Summary We give error estimates for the weighted approximation of functions with singularities at the endpoints on the semiaxis by some modifications of Sz\'asz--Mirakyan operators. To do so, we define a new weighted modulus of smoothness and prove its equivalence to the weighted K-functional. Also, the class of functions for which the modified Sz\'asz--Mirakyan operator can be defined will be extended to a much wider set than for the original operator.
