Epitaxial Fe(1 1 0) films with thicknesses of 100-800 nm on Cu(0 0 1) and Ni(0 0 1) buffer layers grown on MgO(0 0 1) substrates have been fabricated. These films contain Fe(1 1 0) crystallites which are in the Pitsch orientation relationship. Magnetization and the fourfold in-plane magnetic anisotropy constants of these films have been determined by torque measurements. All the samples under study are characterized by a fourfold magnetic anisotropy with easy axes parallel to the [1 0 0] and [0 1 0] directions of Cu(0 0 1) and Ni(0 0 1) layers. The measured values of the constant for Fe(1 1 0)/Cu(0 0 1) are found to depend on deposition temperature; a maximum value of (2.5±0.1)×105 erg/cm3 is reached after annealing at 600 °С. The in-plane torque measurements on Fe(1 1 0)/Ni(0 0 1) bilayers obtained at 300 °С, on the other hand, exhibit a constant value of (2.7±0.1)×105 erg/cm3. Assuming an exchange interaction between the Fe(1 1 0) crystallites, which are in the Pitsch orientation relationship, the fourfold in-plane magnetic anisotropy has been calculated as 2.8×105 erg/cm3. The deviations of the experimental values from the predicted one may be explained by the formation of a polycrystalline phase within the Fe(1 1 0) layer and a partial disorientation of the epitaxial crystallites.  相似文献

Theoretical investigations in the context of Heisenberg model have been made for (1 0 0) and (1 1 0) magnetic surface dynamics for a semi-infinite antiferromagnet geometry. The calculations apply to the exchange dominated regime and are based on a spin-wave operator and matching technique within the framework of non-interacting spin-wave theory. The theoretical formalism developed here does not include either relaxation or reconstruction at the surface and no electronic effects have been considered. Dispersion curves of surface spin-waves are obtained within a single framework by matching the evanescent and travelling solutions, respectively, obtained from the secular equation and satisfying the boundary conditions brought about by the surface. The excitation spectrum of the surface spin-waves has been obtained and compared with that for bulk spin-waves. The quantized bulk modes of the same energy travelling to and away from the surface are related to one another by reflection coefficients, for which sum rules are derived. The numerical results for the evolution of acoustic and optical modes are presented for two different surface planes, namely (1 0 0) and (1 1 0). The findings reported here show that: (i) the reduced coordination number for atoms near the surface as well as the surface orientation play an obvious and crucial part in the surface spin-wave spectra; (ii) the evolutions of bulk as well as surface modes undergo significant changes as a function of the bulk-surface exchange integrals for a given direction of propagation of the spin-wave modes along the surface.  相似文献

The chemisorption and dissociation pathways of NO on the Rh(1 0 0), (1 1 0), and (1 1 1) surfaces are studied by the plane-wave density functional theory (DFT) with CASTEP program. In addition, the electronic and geometrical effects that affect the NO dissociation reactions have been investigated in detail. The calculation results are presented as following: The effective activation energies of the best NO dissociation pathways on the Rh(1 0 0), the Rh(1 1 0), and the Rh(1 1 1) are 0.63, 0.66 and 1.77 eV, respectively. The activity of the Rh planes for NO dissociation is in the order of Rh(1 0 0) ≈ Rh(1 1 0) > Rh(1 1 1). The low dissociation barrier for Rh(1 0 0) and Rh(1 1 0) is associated with the existence of a lying-down NO structure which acts as a precursor for dissociation. By Mulliken population analysis and structure analysis, both electronic and geometrical effects are found to affect the NO dissociation reactions, but the geometrical effect exceed the electronic. The energy decomposition scheme has been used to provide further insight into the NO dissociation reactions. Based on the calculations, the interaction energy between N and O in the transition state on the Rh(1 1 1) is found much larger than that on the Rh(1 0 0) and the Rh(1 1 0). The major differences of should originate from the variation of the bonding competition effect.  相似文献

We have investigated the interactions of ethylamine and allylamine with models of the Si(1 0 0)-2 × 1 and Ge(1 0 0)-2 × 1 semiconductor surfaces. Ab initio molecular orbital calculations, along with density functional theory (DFT), are used to examine the interaction of these amines with cluster models of the semiconductor surfaces. The transition states and final adsorption products for adsorption of the molecules are predicted. The DFT calculations show the amines form N-dative bond states with Si(1 0 0)-2 × 1 or Ge(1 0 0)-2 × 1 as the initial adsorption product. The initial dative-bond products can be further activated, resulting in N-H bond cleavage on both surfaces. The overall reaction of a given amine on Si(1 0 0) via N-H dissociation is more exothermic than on the Ge(1 0 0) surface.  相似文献

A high resolution (0.0018 cm−1) Fourier transform instrument has been used to record the spectrum of an enriched 34S (95.3%) sample of sulfur dioxide. A thorough analysis of the ν2, 2ν2 − ν2, ν1, ν1 + ν2 − ν2, ν3, ν2 + ν3 − ν2, ν1 + ν2 and ν2 + ν3 bands has been carried out leading to a large set of assigned lines. From these lines ground state combination differences were obtained and fit together with the existing microwave, millimeter, and terahertz rotational lines. An improved set of ground state rotational constants were obtained. Next, the upper state rotational levels were fit. For the (0 1 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) states, a simple Watson-type Hamiltonian sufficed. However, it was necessary to include explicitly interacting terms in the Hamiltonian matrix in order to fit the rotational levels of the (0 2 0), (1 0 0) and (1 0 1) states to within their experimental accuracy. More explicitly, it was necessary to use a ΔK = 2 term to model the Fermi interaction between the (0 2 0) and (1 0 0) levels and a ΔK = 3 term to model the Coriolis interaction between the (1 0 0) and (0 0 1) levels. Precise Hamiltonian constants were derived for the (0 0 0), (0 1 0), (1 0 0), (0 0 1), (0 2 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) vibrational states.  相似文献

The adsorption of CN on Cu(1 1 1), Ni(1 1 1) and Ni(1 0 0) has been investigated using density functional theory (DFT). While experimental studies of CN on Cu(1 1 1) show the molecular axis to be essentially parallel to the surface, the normally-preferred DFT approach using the generalised gradient approximation (GGA) yields a lowest energy configuration with the C-N axis perpendicular to the surface, although calculations using the local density approximation (LDA) do indicate that the experimental geometry is energetically favoured. The same conclusions are found for CN on Ni(1 1 1); on both surfaces bonding through the N atom is always unfavourable, in contrast to some earlier published results of ab initio calculations for Ni(1 1 1)/CN and Ni(1 0 0)/CN. The different predictions of the GGA and LDA approaches may lie in subtly different relative energies of the CN 5σ and 1π orbitals, a situation somewhat similar to that for CO adsorbed on Pt(1 1 1) which has proved challenging for DFT calculations. On Ni(1 0 0) GGA calculations favour a lying-down species in a hollow site in a geometry rather similar to that found experimentally and in GGA calculations for CN on Ni(1 1 0).  相似文献

First-principles calculations were performed to study the properties of O adsorption on Ni3Al (0 0 1), (0 1 1), and (1 1 1) surfaces using the Cambridge serial total package (CASTEP) code. Stable adsorption sites are identified. The atomic and electronic structures and adsorption energies are predicted. The adsorption sites for O on the Ni3Al (0 0 1) surface are at the 2Ni–2Al fourfold hollow site, whereas O prefers to adsorb at the Ni–Al bridge site on (0 1 1) surface and 2Ni–Al threefold hollow site on (1 1 1) surface. It is found that O shows the strongest affinity for Al and the state of O is the most stabilized when O adsorbs on (0 0 1) surface, while the affinity of O for Al on (0 1 1) surface is weaker than (0 0 1) surface, and (1 1 1) surface is the weakest. The stronger O and Al affinity indicates more stable Al2O3 when oxidized. The experiment has shown that the oxidation resistance of single crystal superalloy in different orientations improves in the order of (1 1 1), (0 1 1), and (0 0 1) surface, suggesting that the oxidation in different crystallographic orientations may be related to the affinity of O for Al in the surface.  相似文献

A soft X-ray appearance potential spectroscopy (SXAPS) apparatus with high sensitivity was built to measure non-derivative spectra. SXAPS spectra (non-derivative) of Ti 2p and O 1s for TiO2(1 1 0)-1 × 2 and (0 0 1)-1 × 1 surfaces have been measured using low incident currents (about 10 μA/cm2) and a photon counting mode. Density of empty states on Ti and O sites are deduced by self-deconvoluting the spectra. The self-deconvoluted SXAPS spectra are qualitatively similar to those measured by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The Ti 2p3/2 spectrum shows two strong peaks which correspond to t2g and eg states. For the O 1s spectrum two strong peaks near the threshold are also found which can be ascribed to O 2pπ and O 2pσ states. These results suggest that the spectra almost obey the dipole selection rule, so-called the “approximate dipole selection rule”. The SXAPS spectra of Ti 2p and O 1s for the (1 1 0) and (0 0 1) surfaces resemble qualitatively, which is consistent with the XAS results. The spectra measured on the (1 1 0)-1 × 2 surface at an incident angle of 45° off normal to the surface and on the (1 1 0) surface sputtered by Ar ions indicate that SXAPS is very sensitive to the surface electronic states.  相似文献

Growth and surface morphology of epitaxial Fe(1 1 0)/MgO(1 1 1)/Fe(1 1 0) trilayers constituting a magnetic tunnel junction were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). STM reveals a grain-like growth mode of MgO on Fe(1 1 0) resulting in dense MgO(1 1 1) films at room temperature as well as at 250 °C. As observed by STM, initial deposition of MgO leads to a partial oxidation of the Fe(1 1 0) surface which is confirmed by Auger electron spectroscopy. The top Fe layer deposited on MgO(1 1 1) at room temperature is relatively rough consisting of clusters which can be transformed by annealing to an atomically flat epitaxial Fe(1 1 0) film.  相似文献

Pt(1 1 0) is one of the most closely investigated metal surface structures because it displays a variety of “missing-row” reconstructions, which are only marginally stable. The ground state is usually found to have 1 × 2 translational symmetry, but a 1 × 3 form has also been seen. Between 1 × 2 and 1 × 3, a series of disordered structures has been recorded, which shows a slight preference for 1 × 5 periodicity. Under the preparation conditions used in this study, a stable 1 × 5 structure was found for Pt(1 1 0). Investigation by surface X-ray diffraction has led to a complete three-dimensional structure, which closely resembles an alternation of 1 × 2 and 1 × 3 unit cells. Pt(1 1 0) shows an interesting example of two “homometric” structures that are indistinguishable by diffraction, but are distinguishable by virtue of their subsurface relaxation pattern.  相似文献

The regular CO overlayers at coverage θ = 1/3 adsorbed on the (0 0 0 1) surface of hcp Co and (1 1 1) surface of fcc Co are studied by first-principles density-functional theory with the exchange-correlation component in the PBE form. Adsorption in atop, bridge, and three-fold hcp or fcc position are considered. The adsorption energies, CO stretching frequencies, geometry, work function, and local magnetic moments are studied, and, when possible, compared with experimental or theoretical data. Particularly, we show that the recently proposed correction to adsorption energy of CO prefers correctly the atop adsorption site, whereas the remaining sites are almost degenerate in energy. The CO molecule lowers magnetization on neighbouring Co atoms, and the effect decreases with the adsorption site coordination. We show, however, that this trend is not the result of the different C-Co separation at different adsorption sites. A very small magnetic moment appears on CO that couples antiferromagnetically to Co. Most results are very similar for the Co(0 0 0 1) and Co(1 1 1) surfaces.  相似文献

This communication deals with the vibrational behaviour of cyanide adlayers formed on Pt(1 1 1) and Pt(1 0 0) surfaces in the electrochemical environment. In situ FTIR spectroscopy can be employed to follow the potential dependence of the C-N stretching frequency in acidic electrolytes with quite a low uncertainty. Owing to the stability of the cyanide adlayer in alkaline solutions, experiments performed in NaOH medium are usually perturbed by the significant overlapping of the reference and the sample FTIR spectra. Deconvolution of the spectra was carried out assuming a Lorentz oscillator. The procedure allowed to confirm that two potential regions with different band centre frequency tuning coexist for Pt(1 1 1)-CN in perchloric acid medium. Conversely, in the alkaline electrolyte a single tuning rate for the band position was found for both surfaces studied. The lack of reorientation of the C-N molecular axis together with the occurrence of a certain screening effect of negatively charged hydroxyl anions on the electric field at the interface could be at the origin of the different behaviour displayed in both electrolytic media.  相似文献

The surface structure of BaO(1 1 1) has been determined using STM and computer modelling. The BaO(1 1 1) surface was prepared in thin film form on Pt(1 1 1) and presents a surface with twice the lattice parameter expected for that of the bulk termination, i.e. a (2 × 2) reconstruction. Computer modelling indicates that the bulk termination is unstable, but that the (2 × 2) reconstructed BaO(1 1 1) surface has a low surface energy and is hence a stable surface reconstruction. The (2 × 2) reconstruction consists of small, three-sided pyramids with (1 0 0) oriented sides and either oxygen or barium ions at the apices. Less regular surface reconstructions containing the same pyramids are almost equally stable, indicating that we may also expect less regular regions to appear with a fairly random distribution of these surface species. The simulations further suggest that a regular (4 × 4) reconstruction built up of bigger pyramids is even more energetically favourable, and some evidence is found for such a structure in the STM.  相似文献

The oxidation of Ni(1 0 0) and Ni(1 1 1) at elevated temperatures and large oxygen exposures, typical of the methods used in the preparation of NiO(1 0 0) films for surface studies, has been investigated by medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) using 100 keV H+ incident ions. Oxide film growth proceeds significantly faster on Ni(1 1 1) than on Ni(1 0 0), but on both surfaces oxide penetration occurs to depths significantly greater than 100 Å with total exposures of 1200 and 6000 L respectively. The metal/oxide interface is extremely rough, with metallic Ni extending to the surface, even for much thicker oxide films on Ni(1 1 1). On Ni(1 1 1), NiO growth occurs with the (1 0 0) face parallel to the Ni(1 1 1) surface and the close-packed 〈1 1 0〉 directions parallel. On Ni(1 0 0) the MEIS blocking curves cannot be reconciled with a single orientation of NiO(1 0 0) (with the 〈1 1 0〉 directions parallel) on the surface, but is consistent with the substantial orientational disorder (including tilt) previously identified by spot-profile analysis LEED.  相似文献

We use first-principles density functional theory-based calculations in the analysis of the interaction of H2O with (1 0 0), (1 1 0) and (1 1 1) surfaces of TiN, and develop understanding in terms of surface energies, polarity of the surface and chemistry of the cation, through comparison with H2O adsorption on ZrN. While water molecule physisorbs preferentially at Ti site of (1 0 0) and (1 1 1) surfaces, it adsorbs dissociatively on (1 1 0) surface of TiN with binding stronger than almost 1.32 eV/molecule. Our analysis reveals the following general trends: (a) surfaces with higher energies typically lead to stronger adsorption, (b) dissociative adsorption of H2O necessarily occurs on a charge neutral high energy surface and (c) lower symmetry of the (1 1 0) plane results in many configurations of comparable stability, as opposed to the higher symmetry (1 0 0) and (1 1 1) surfaces, which also consistently explain the results of H2O adsorption on MgO available in literature. Finally, weaker adsorption of H2O on TiN than on ZrN can be rationalized in terms of greater chemical stability of Ti arising from its ability to be in mixed valence.  相似文献

Thin Pd films (1-10 monolayers, ML) were deposited at 35 K on a Pt(1 1 1) single crystal and on an oxygen-terminated FeO(1 1 1) monolayer supported on Pt(1 1 1). Low energy electron diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, and Kr and CO temperature programmed desorption techniques were used to investigate the annealing induced changes in the film surface morphology. For growth on Pt(1 1 1), the films order upon annealing to 500 K and form epitaxial Pd(1 1 1). Further annealing above 900 K results in Pd diffusion into the Pt(1 1 1) bulk and Pt-Pd alloy formation. Chemisorption of CO shows that even the first ordered monolayer of Pd on Pt(1 1 1) has adsorption properties identical to bulk Pd(1 1 1). Similar experiments conducted on FeO(1 1 1) indicate that 500 K annealing of a 10 ML thick Pd deposit also yields ordered Pd(1 1 1). In contrast, annealing of 1 and 3 ML thick Pd films did not result in formation of continuous Pd(1 1 1). We speculate that for these thinner films Pd diffuses underneath the FeO(1 1 1).  相似文献

Plateaus in water adsorption isotherms on hydroxylated BeO surfaces suggest significant differences between the hydroxylated (1 0 0) and (0 0 1) surface structures and reactivities. Density functional theory structures and energies clarify these differences. Using relaxed surface energies, a Wulff construction yields a prism crystal shape exposing long (1 0 0) sides and much smaller (0 0 1) faces. This is consistent with the BeO prisms observed when beryllium metal is oxidized. A water oxygen atom binds to a single surface beryllium ion in the preferred adsorption geometry on either surface. The water oxygen/beryllium bonding is stronger on the surface with greater beryllium atom exposure, namely the less-stable (0 0 1) surface. Water/beryllium coordination facilitates water dissociation. On the (0 0 1) surface, the dissociation products are a hydroxide bridging two beryllium ions and a metal-coordinated hydride with some surface charge depletion. On the (1 0 0) surface, water dissociates into a hydroxide ligating a Be atom and a proton coordinated to a surface oxygen but the lowest energy water state on the (1 0 0) surface is the undissociated metal-coordinated water. The (1 0 0) fully hydroxylated surface structure has a hydrogen bonding network which facilitates rapid proton shuffling within the network. The corresponding (0 0 1) hydroxylated surface is fairly open and lacks internal hydrogen bonding. This supports previous experimental interpretations of the step in water adsorption isotherms. Further, when the (1 0 0) surface is heated to 1000 K, hydroxides and protons associate and water desorbs. The more open (0 0 1) hydroxylated surface is stable at 1000 K. This is consistent with the experimental disappearance of the isotherm step when heating to 973 K.  相似文献

Electronic, magnetic and structural properties of atomic oxygen adsorbed in on-surface and subsurface sites at the two most densely packed iron surfaces are investigated using density functional theory combined with a thermodynamics formalism. Oxygen coverages varying from a quarter to two monolayers (MLs) are considered. At a 1/4 ML coverage, the most stable on-surface adsorption sites are the twofold long bridge sites on the (1 1 0), and the fourfold-hollow sites on the (1 0 0) surface. The presence of on-surface oxygen atoms enhances the magnetic moments of the atoms of the two topmost Fe layers. Detailed results on the surface magnetic properties, due to O incorporation, are presented as well. Subsurface adsorption is found unfavored. The most stable subsurface O, in tetrahedral positions at the (1 0 0) and octahedral ones at the (1 1 0) surface, are characterized by substantially lower binding than that in the on-surface sites. Subsurface oxygen increases the interplanar distance between the uppermost Fe layers. The preadsorbed oxygen overlayer enhances binding of subsurface O atoms, particularly for tetrahedral sites beneath the (1 1 0) surface.  相似文献

We present a reflectance difference spectroscopy (RDS) study of para-sexiphenyl (p-6P) thin film growth on Cu(1 1 0) and Cu(1 1 0)-(2 × 1)O substrates. The RDS spectra show pronounced anisotropies for p-6P films formed on both substrates at room temperature, demonstrating that the molecules are uniaxially aligned within the films. Based on the RD spectra and the evolution of the optical transitions with p-6P coverage the growth mode on both substrates could be identified. From the dominating RDS feature, assigned to the lowest energy HOMO-LUMO transition, the orientation of the molecular chain can be determined. On Cu(1 1 0), the p-6P molecular chains align in the direction, i.e., along the Cu atomic rows, whereas on the Cu(1 1 0)-(2 × 1)O surface, the molecules are oriented in the orthogonal [0 0 1] direction, i.e., along the “added” Cu-O rows of the Cu(1 1 0)-(2 × 1)O surface. The energetic position and line shape of the main RDS feature differs for the two substrates and varies with p-6P coverage. This fine structure is discussed in terms of different molecular conformations, adlayer structure and vibronic replicas.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide films were grown on Re(1 0 −1 0) by Ti vapor deposition in oxygen at T = 830 K and studied by means of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), low-energy ion scattering (LEIS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Ti oxide stoichiometry was determined by XPS as Ti:O = 1:2, with the Ti oxidation state (4+). The TiO2 growth was monitored by means of LEED as a function of film thickness. Extending the coverage from the submonolayer into the multilayer regime gives rise to a p(2 × 2) pattern, a (poorly ordered) (1 × 1), and, finally, a stable (2 × 2) structure, the latter being associated with a homogeneous TiO2 phase. For normal electron incidence, the (2 × 2) LEED pattern exhibits systematically extinguished beams at (n ± 1/2, 0) positions, indicating a glide mirror plane. The pg(2 × 2) structure could be explained by both a rutile(0 1 1)-(2 × 1) reconstructed surface and a bulk truncated brookite(0 0 1) surface. Faceting phenomena, i.e. running LEED spots, observed with thin TiO2 films point to the formation of a rutile(0 1 1)-(2 × 1) surface with two domains and {0 1 1}-(2 × 1) facets and rule out the brookite alternative. Confirmation of this assignment was obtained by an XRD analysis performed at the Berlin synchrotron facility BESSY.  相似文献
