A novel and simple design technique for triangular spectrum response of fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is presented based on a linear chirped grating. It is shown that this method is fast and can give a straightforward solution to meet a design target. The numerical simulation examples verified the effectiveness of the design method. A general approach to design for multichannel triangular spectral responses for FBG filters is proposed, which provides a solution that achieves a minimum change of refractive index for the fibre. 相似文献

The optimization of grating couplers is usually realized by multiple simulations using specific computational software for this task. Many grating parameters must be analyzed and designed to get the maximum coupling efficiency and the transmission spectrum centred at the wavelength of operation. However, these simulations may take a long time and consume high computational resources depending on the simulation resolution. This work is focused on finding a method to optimize the grating parameters with the lowest number of simulations. In this way, closed-form expressions are presented to get the optimal values for the period and fill-factor, which are the main parameters in the grating design. The usefulness of the proposed approach is shown for the design of silicon grating couplers operating at 1.31 µm and 1.55 µm and both TE and TM polarizations. 相似文献

A wavelength tunable all fibre laser which utilizes Tm3+-doped fluoride fibre as a gain mechanism emitting around a wavelength of = 2.3 m is reported. Tm3+-doped fluoride fibre was coupled to a fibre Bragg grating inscribed in silica. This laser was evaluated by employing it as a wavelength tunable source in a methane gas optical sensor. A minimum gas detectivity of 100 ppm m limited by the ability to prepare low concentrations of gases was achieved. Emission wavelength control was implemented by thermally tuning the grating, although this method may prove to be too slow and cumbersome for practical use. A model describing the coupling between the silica fibre Bragg grating and the Tm3+-doped fibre was developed and integrated with a fibre laser model. This theoretical framework was used to examine the optimum silica and fluoride fibre parameters to achieve the maximum coupling between the fibres, with the aim of further reducing the fibre laser threshold. 相似文献

通过对优化计算出的平场全息凹面光栅制作结构(曝光记录结构)和使用结构(光谱仪分光结构)之间各个参数进行联合数值模拟,得出如下结论:在优化设计参数值附近一个较大范围的误差区域内,平场全息凹面光栅的制作结构参数误 差和使用结构参数误差可以相互补偿,最终补偿的结果可以使光谱成像质量达到与原设计结构相当的水平,满足光谱仪器的使用要求。文章给出了数值模拟结果以及与其相符的实验验证结果。此补偿作用有利于降低平场全息凹面光栅制作 中各个参数精度的调节难度,并且可以对实际使用过程中光谱仪器的设计和装调进行理论上的指导。 相似文献

This paper numerically and analytically investigates the formation and propagation motion of optical soliton in the Bragg grating.We choose the fibre Bragg grating with hyperbolic tangent apodization in the middle section in order to obtain slower solitons.Optical fibre soliton but not Bragg grating soliton is used as input pulse in the discussion,which is much more approximate to the light source for the practical purpose.We discuss in detail the effects of the soliton’s velocity with some parameters in the process of transmission.The results show that by choosing special parameters,one can make the soliton slow-down with a little distortion and energy decay and obtain tunable time-delay on a small scale. 相似文献

Modal analysis of a deep-etched low-contrast two-port beam splitter grating under Littrow mounting is presented. The guideline for the design of a subwavelength transmission fused-silica phase grating as high-efficiency grating, polarizing beam splitter (PBS), and two-port beam splitter, is summarized. As an example, a polarization-independent two-port beam splitter grating is designed at wavelength of 1064 nm. We firstly analyzed the physical essence of the grating by the simplified modal method. The guideline for the grating design and the approximate grating parameters are obtained. Then using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) with parameters varying around the approximate ones, optimum grating parameters can be determined. With the design guideline, the time for the rigorous calculation of the grating profile parameters can be reduced significantly. 相似文献

A novel method incorporating the shielded method and the post-processing method has been proposed to fabricate the π-phase-shifted fibre grating. Then an Er-doped π-phase-shifted distributed feedback fibre grating laser has been fabricated using the grating. The laser threshold is 20mW. When pumped with 90mW light at 980nm, the laser gives an output of 1.1mW. Its signal-to-noise ratio is better than 60dB. It is demonstrated that the laser is single mode operation by means of a Fabry--Perot scanning interferometer. 相似文献

The inherent temperature dependence of optical fibre Bragg gratings is caused mainly by the positive thermo-optic effect of the fibre core material, and it results in an increase of Bragg wavelength with temperature. Special mounting techniques may be designed in order to compensate this thermo-optic effect by counter-acting effects: decreasing mechanical strain, as well as a decreasing effective refractive index for the guided light wave by evanescent field interaction with a liquid of negative thermo-optic effect. Because of the non-linear interaction characteristics, exact temperature compensation is obtained for a certain temperature, which depends on the design parameters. Such stabilised fibre Bragg gratings find application as wavelength references in Bragg grating sensor networks. 相似文献

Based on the rate equations describing the erbium-doped fluoride glass(ZBLAN) fibre lasers with different pumping configurations being taken into account,this paper presents theoretical calculations related to the dynamic population density and the operation performance of a high power mid-infrared all-fibre erbium-doped ZBLAN fibre laser.It shows that the ground-state absorption,excited-state absorption and energy-transfer-upconversion processes co-exist and produce a population balance,causing the laser to operate stably at a continuous wave state.A good agreement between the theoretical results and recent experimental measurement is obtained.Furthermore,the laser structure parameters including fibre length,reflectance of output fibre Bragg grating and pumping configurations are quantitatively optimised to achieve the best performance.The results show,as expected,that the slope efficiency of the fibre laser can be improved significantly through optimisation,which then provides an important guide for the design of high-performance mid-infrared erbium-doped ZBLAN fibre lasers. 相似文献

A number of numerical and analytical methods with different complexity can be exploited to analyse fibre amplifiers. Conventional approaches make the refinement and design of the devices extremely time consuming, especially when several design parameters have to be simultaneously optimised to obtain the desired performance in terms of gain and noise figure.In order to tackle this issue, a method based on an artificial neural network to perform the refinement and design of erbium doped photonic crystal fibre amplifiers is proposed in this paper. The capability of the neural network to capture the nonlinear functional link among the physical and geometrical characteristics of the fibre amplifier and its gain and noise figure is exploited. In the refinement it is employed to determine the optimal values of the parameters maximising the gain. In the design, it is used to develop an inverse problem solver in order to determine the values of the parameters corresponding to the known values of gain.Numerical results show that the proposed approach finds the refinement/design parameters in good accordance with respect to the conventional one. 相似文献

One effective method for suppression of coupling from guided optical modes into cladding modes in an optical fibre Bragg grating is to use cladding mode suppression fibre. In this specially engineered fibre, the grating is written into the core and the inner cladding, both of which are photosensitive. A theory is presented in this paper to analyse the spectral characteristics of this kind of gratings. A fibre Bragg grating was experimentally fabricated with this kind of photosensitive fibre (PS-RMS-50 from StockerYale). It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that such gratings exhibit strong suppression of the coupling between core mode and cladding mode. The experimental result is in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. 相似文献

We simulate the spectrum characteristics of fibre Bragg grating (FBG) with non-uniform temperature using the transmission matrix method, and the results are analysed. It is found that firstly the modulated coefficient of average refractive index is a very important parameter that influences the spectrum characteristic of the fibre Bragg grating, and secondly the spectrum curves are different in different temperature fields at the same parameter. Hence, we can determine the metrical temperature by analysing the spectrum of fibre Bragg grating. 相似文献

A novel design of out-of-plane grating couplers is proposed for coupling between silicon-on-insulator nanophotonic waveguides and single-mode fibres. The coupler with the first-order diffraction coupling to the optical fibre is actually a second-order reflected grating with two times of period of the first-order grating. To enhance outcoupled power, a back hole is designed to form in the silicon substrate and a kind of metals is placed on the top acting as a reflection layer. The coupler is optimized using coupled-mode-based simulations, showing that the coupling efficiency to and from tapered optical fibre can be as high as 85% with 1dB bandwidth about 23 nm. 相似文献

The extraction of the physical parameters of long period gratings from the spectral response is not an easy process. We present a demodulation technique to synthesize the physical parameters of a long period grating recorded in an optical fibre. We present a unified design of wavelength-independent deep-etched fused-silica gratings as polarizing beam splitters and polarization-independent two-port beam splitters by using the simplified modal method. By defining unified grating parameters as the ratio of incident wavelength to grating period and the ratio of groove depth to grating period, unified grating structures are found to be approximately wavelength-independent, which is based on the modal view of the accumulated phase difference of two excited propagating grating modes. Diffraction efficiencies given by the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) verified this unified design at the wavelength of 1064 nm. It should be noted that this unified design of wavelength-independent gratings is an analytic result, which is impossible to be derived with the well-known numerical RCWA. Modal method is powerful and presents a clear physical picture for us to obtain this unified design. Therefore, this unified design can be used as a general guideline for designing deep-etched fused-silica gratings as beam splitters for practical applications from ultraviolet to near infrared. 相似文献
