We theoretically investigate the synchronization performance of polarization mode of two unidirectionally coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and propose an encryption scheme, where the phase of the polarization states of the master laser are modulated. It is demonstrated that high synchronization can be achieved between corresponding polarization components of the master laser and the slave laser. Moreover, two distinct synchronization regimes exist, complete synchronization and injection locking. The transmitted digital information is successfully recovered at each polarization branch of the slaver laser. The results open an opportunity for multichannel chaotic communication by utilizing different polarization components in single-mode or multi-transverse-mode VCSELs.  相似文献

Enhanced chaos synchronization communication between vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) is investigated numerically, by adopting a polarization communication protocol where one polarization mode is used as the chaotic carrier and the orthogonal polarization mode is used as the disturbed signal. The chaos synchronization quality for the receiver laser (RL) and attacker laser (AL) are analyzed in terms of the cross-correlation coefficient. There are two distinct regions of good synchronization quality in the injection parameters space. In the first region, good synchronization quality can be ensured for both the RL and AL. In the second region, only the RL can realize chaos synchronization. We further discuss the security enhancement by comparing the communication performance between RL and AL for injection parameters within the second region. The results show that successful and robust decoding is only achievable for the RL.  相似文献

We analyze theoretically the effect of polarization mode competition on the synchronization of two unidirectionally coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). Chaos in the master laser is induced by delayed optical feedback, and the slave laser is subject to isotropic optical injection from the master VCSEL. We show that the synchronization quality can be enhanced when the chaotic regime in the master VCSEL involves both fundamental orthogonal linearly polarized modes.  相似文献

Single-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) have been investigated with ultrafast optical modulation. After injection of a subpicosecond laser pulse into the VCSEL cavity, nonlasing modes were excited and produced optical beating in the emission of the VCSEL. After these oscillations have died down, when the VCSEL is operating at high power and when the injected laser pulses exceed a power threshold as well, the injected laser pulses can induce the lasing to switch to a normally nonlasing mode with crossed polarization. Our measurements of the decay time of the nonlasing modes at low injected pulse energy are consistent with the interpretation of this switching as enabled by increased lifetime of the nonlasing modes at high power.  相似文献

We study experimentally and numerically the dynamic states of chaotic oscillations in vertical-cavity surface-emitting semiconductor lasers (VCSELs) with polarization-selected optical feedback. We identify the regimes of fully-developed chaotic states, low-frequency fluctuations (LFFs), and coexistent states of LFFs and stable oscillation for the variations of the bias injection current and the optical feedback ratio. In particular, coexistent states of LFFs and stable oscillations are observed at higher optical feedback ratio and lower bias injection current. We draw maps of dynamic states in the space of the bias injection current and the optical feedback ratio. The qualitative agreement between the theory and the experiment is found.  相似文献

Polarization switching (PS) dynamics and synchronization performances of two mutually coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are studied theoretically in this paper. A group of dimensionless rate equations is derived to describe our model. While analysing the PS characteristics, we focus on the effects of coupling rate and frequency detuning regarding different mutual injection types. The results indicate that the x-mode injection defers the occurrence of PS, while the y-mode injection leads the PS to occur at a lower current. Strong enough polarization-selective injection can suppress the PS. Moreover, if frequency detuning is considered, the effects of polarization-selective mutual injection will be weakened. To evaluate the synchronization performance, the correlation coefficients and output dynamics of VCSELs with both pure mode and mixed mode polarizations are given. It is found that performance of complete synchronization is sensitive to the frequency mismatch but it is little affected by mixed mode polarizations, which is opposite to the case of injection-locking synchronization.  相似文献

We have improved transmission line laser model to study the polarization characteristics by incorporating into spin-flip model (SFM). Theoretical studies on the influence of the Bragg reflectivity on the polarization switching of vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) have been discussed in this paper. We have demonstrated that reflectivity of Bragg reflectors can be optimized to provide suitable hysteresis loops width which indicates the tolerance of the input power.  相似文献

We experimentally study chaos synchronization in unidirectionally coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting semiconductor lasers (VCSELs) with polarization-preserved and polarization-selected optical injection. The measurements show, in agreement with theoretical predictions, that the maximum cross coefficient of 0.884 obtained with polarization-preserved optical injection is significantly higher than the maximum cross coefficient of 0.724 obtained with polarization-selected optical injection.  相似文献

Two vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers(VCSELs) are mutually coupled through a partially transparent mirror (PTM) placed in the pathway. The PTM plays the role of external mirror,which controls the feedback strength and coupling strength.We numerically simulate this system by establishing a visible SIMULINK model.The results demonstrate that the anticipation synchronization is achieved and it can tolerate some extent frequency detuning.Moreover,the system shows similar chaos-pass filtering effect on unidirectionally coupled system even both VCSELs are modulated.This system allows simultaneously bidirectional secure message transmission on public channels.  相似文献

Synchronization of chaos is achieved experimentally in unidirectionally coupled external-cavity vertical-cavity surface-emitting semiconductor lasers operating in an open-loop regime. Synchronization is observed when the polarization of the transmitter is perpendicular to the polarization (x polarization) of the free-running receiver. The ratio of transmitter output to y-polarized receiver output power shows normal (positive-slope) synchronization. However, inverse (negative-slope) synchronization is found to arise between the transmitter output and the x-polarized receiver output power.  相似文献

In this paper we summarize the recent results on nonlinear dynamics of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) which are bearing the fingerprints of the particular polarization properties of VCSELs. Due to the surface emission and cylindrical symmetry, VCSELs lack strong polarization anisotropy and may undergo polarization switching and polarization mode-hopping. This provides new specificities to the rich nonlinear dynamics induced in VCSELs by an external perturbation. We unveil both experimentally and theoretically these new specificities for the case of optical feedback, optical injection, and unidirectional synchronization between VCSELs.  相似文献

基于光子晶体技术在一维光子晶体带隙内引入缺陷态模式,并对激光器谐振腔内部电磁场分布和共振波长进行调制,从而将单一波长分裂为双波长输出.最终制备出了一种新的具有双波长光谱输出特性的垂直腔面发射激光器,缺陷层为Al0.8Ga0.2As材料,厚度为5λ/4.所得到的双波长输出光谱具有低吸收损耗、输出波长容易控制及同方向垂直输出特性.同时,通过调整一维光子晶体的折射率差和缺陷层厚度可以有效调谐双波长的间距及输出波段.所设计的双波长垂直腔面发射激光器结构同样 关键词: 垂直腔面发射激光器 光子带隙 双波长  相似文献

基于自旋反向模型(SFM),数值研究了基于光反馈的单向耦合注入垂直腔表面发射激光器的矢量混沌同步特性,研究结果表明:当外部光反馈时间等于光从发射系统到接收系统传输时间时, x偏振模和y偏振模都能接收最好的完全混沌同步质量.若外部光反馈时间不等于传输时间且注入电流接近阈值电流时,占主导的y偏振模能暂时实现较好的完全混沌同步质量.相比较而言,占主导地位的x偏振模至始至终获得很差的同步质量,另外,当系统输出为混合偏振模时,混合偏振模中的每一个线性偏振模获得很差完全同步质量.然而,当注入电流远大于阈值电流时,系统输出仅为y偏振模,这时y偏振模能稳定地实现最好的完全混沌同步质量.最后,当接收激光器受到线性偏振模的强注入时,每一个注入线性偏振模能与接收激光器输出的对应的线性偏振模实现很好的注入锁定同步.然而,每一个占主导的线性偏振模比另一被抑制的线性偏振模获得更差注入锁定同步质量、如果有相等的能量的两个线性偏振模同时存在,这两个线性偏振模获得差不多一致的注入锁定混同步质量, 换句话说,能量较少的线性偏振能获得较高的注入锁定同步质量. 关键词: 线性偏振态 垂直腔表面发射激光器 完全矢量混沌同步 强注入锁定矢量混沌同步  相似文献

通过分析垂直腔面发射激光器的速率方程,并结合电子电路的特点,建立了等效电路模型。采用数值计算和电路模拟两种方法给出了垂直腔面发射激光器的频率响应特性。通过分析,证明了电路模型的正确性。通过电路模拟得出了脉冲调制的响应特性,验证了激光器固有的电光延迟和张驰振荡现象。  相似文献

The output characteristics of large-aperture rectangular post bottom-emitting vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) were investigated. It was shown that the output power of the rectangle VCSELs can be up to 660 mW at a current of 5 A. Both H-polarization (horizontal) and V-polarization (vertical) demonstrated a coherent stabilization over the entire range of operation current, and coherent spectrum blue-shift of H-polarization light occurred with respect to V-polarization light at three different injected currents. The polarization states of output light were stabilized in the two orthogonal directions and H-polarization was the most principal polarization which was parallel to the longer side of the rectangular aperture. From the relationship between polarization ratio and aspect ratio of the oxidation confinement aperture (OCA), it was found that the highest polarization ratio (about 2:1) took place when the appropriate aspect ratio was 5:3, which meant better polarization stabilization in large-aperture VCSELs.  相似文献

A chaos secure communication system of mutual coupling lasers ring based on incoherent optical injection is proposed, in which fine tuning of optical frequency is not required compared with other schemes based on coherent optical injection. Therefore the secure communication scheme is attractive for experimental investigation. The dynamics of semiconductor lasers in the coupling ring are examined. Numerical investigations indicate that zero lag synchronization can be achieved under equal coupling time and strength of mutual coupling. Furthermore, by chaos shift keying (CSK), secure communication is simulated with a random bit stream of 1.0 Gbit/s. The results confirm the possibility of applying incoherent schemes of mutual coupling lasers ring to realize chaotic secure communication.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the effects of parameter mismatches on chaos synchronization in vertical-cavity surfaceemitting lasers (VCSELs). We assume injection-locked chaos synchronization in a unidirectionally coupled and openloop optical feedback system. The accuracy of chaos synchronization is greatly affected by the mismatches of the device parameters and operation conditions between the two lasers. In particular, the oscillation frequency of the laser is one of the important parameters in a system of injection-locked chaos synchronization. However, the variations of the device characteristics of VCSELs are very large compared with those of other types of semiconductor lasers. We study the effects of parameter mismatches related to the oscillation frequency of VCSELs on chaos synchronization. We proved that mismatches in terms of the birefringence and the injection current play crucial roles for the quality of chaos synchronization.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the synchronization performance of unidirectionally and bidirectionally coupled chaotic semiconductor lasers subject to multiple modulated time delays optical feedbacks. Moreover, by studying the autocorrelation function of the coherent feedback semiconductor laser output, we find that the signatures of time delays can be erased in systems incorporating modulated feedback time delays, which largely improve the system security. Finally, chaos masking switching (CMS) is utilized to examine the communication ability. Numerical results indicate that the messages could be successfully recovered both in unidirectionally and bidirectionally coupled lasers, which confirms the possibility of applying multiple modulated delay system in optical chaos secure communication.  相似文献

A numerical study of using external optical injection to suppress the nonlinear dynamics introduced by external optical feedback in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) has been undertaken. The model under consideration is a master–slave configuration where the master VCSEL provides the continuous wave to control the nonlinear behaviors arising in the slave VCSEL. Simulation results indicate that the feedback-induced nonlinear dynamics (e.g. chaotic, single-periodic, and multi-periodic oscillations), relative intensity noise (RIN) as well as the coherence collapse can be suppressed effectively as long as the injection is strong enough to overcome the nonlinear effects of the feedback.  相似文献
