Let n be n-dimensional Euclidean space, and let : [0, L] n and : [0, L] n be closed rectifiable arcs in n of the same total length L which are parametrized via their arc length. is said to be a chord-stretched version of if for each 0s tL, |(t)–(s)| |(t)–(s)|. is said to be convex if is simple and if ([0, L]) is the frontier of some plane convex set. Individual work by Professors G. Choquet and G. T. Sallee demonstrated that if were simple then there existed a convex chord-stretched version of . This result led Professor Yang Lu to conjecture that if were convex and were a chord-stretched version of then and would be congruent, i.e. any chord-stretching map of a convex arc is an isometry. Professor Yang Lu has proved this conjecture in the case where and are C 2 curves. In this paper we prove the conjecture in general.  相似文献

To establish the upper bound ofc (k) we construct a set, which also solves (affirmatively) the problem of Alonet al. [1] about the existence of a setA ofk points in general position without a 7-hole (i.e., vertices of a convex 7-gon containing no other points fromA), satisfying . We consider Keller's functions, namely polynomial functionsf:C n C n with detf(x)=1 at allx C n. Keller conjectured that they are all bijective and have polynomial inverses. The problem is still open.Without loss of generality assumef(0)=0 andf'(0)=I. Summary LetA+(k) denote the ring [t]/t k+1 and letG be a reductive complex Lie algebra with exponentsm 1, ...,m n. This paper concerns the Lie algebra cohomology ofGA +(k) considered as a bigraded algebra (here one of the gradings is homological degree and the other, which we callweight, is inherited from the obvious grading ofGA +(k)). We conjecture that this Lie algebra cohomology is an exterior algebra withk+1 generators of homological degree 2m s +1 fors=1,2, ...,n. Of thesek+1 generators of degree 2m s +1, one has weight 0 and the others have weights (k+1)m s +t fort=1,2, ...,k.It is shown that this conjecture about the Lie algebra cohomology of A +(k) implies the Macdonald root system conjectures. Next we consider the case thatG is a classical Lie algebra with root systemA n ,B n ,C n , orD n. It is shown that our conjecture holds in the limit onn asn approaches infinity which amounts to the computation of the cyclic and dihedral cohomologies ofA+(k). In the present note a theorem about strong suitability of the space of algebraic polynomials of degree n in C[a,b] (Theorem A in [1]) is generalized to the space of spline polynomials [a, b ]n, k (n2, 0) in C[a, b].
