The sphere S n+1 contains a simple family of constant mean curvature (CMC) hypersurfaces of the form C t : = S p (cos t) × S q (sin t) for p + q = n and called the generalized Clifford hypersurfaces. This paper demonstrates that new, topologically non-trivial CMC hypersurfaces resembling a pair of neighbouring generalized Clifford tori connected to each other by small catenoidal bridges at a sufficiently symmetric configuration of points can be constructed by perturbative PDE methods. That is, one can create an approximate solution by gluing a rescaled catenoid into the neighbourhood of each point; and then one can show that a perturbation of this approximate hypersurface exists, which satisfies the CMC condition. The results of this paper generalize those of the authors in [3].  相似文献

We prove the double bubble conjecture in the three-sphereS 3 and hyperbolic three-spaceH 3 in the cases where we can apply Hutchings theory:
–  • InS 3, when each enclosed volume and the complement occupy at least 10% of the volume ofS 3.
–  • inH 3, when the smaller volume is at least 85% that of the larger.
A balancing argument and asymptotic analysis reduce the problem inS 3 andH 3 to some computer checking. The computer analysis has been designed and fully implemented for both spaces.  相似文献

We classify graph C *-algebras, namely, Cuntz-Krieger algebras associated to the Bass-Hashimoto edge incidence operator of a finite graph, up to strict isomorphism. This is done by a purely graph theoretical calculation of the K-theory of the C *-algebras and the method also provides an independent proof of the classification up to Morita equivalence and stable equivalence of such algebras, without using the boundary operator algebra. A direct relation is given between the K 1-group of the algebra and the cycle space of the graph. We thank Jakub Byszewski for his input in Sect. 2.8. The position of the unit in K 0( Ч) was guessed based on some example calculations by Jannis Visser in his SCI 291 Science Laboratory at Utrecht University College.  相似文献

In this paper, we reformulate the Euler-Lagrange equations of Willmore surfaces in S^n as the flatness of a family of certain loop algebra-valued 1-forms. Therefore we can give the Weierstrass type representation of conformal Willmore surfaces. We also discuss the relations between conformal Willmore surfaces in S^n and minimal surfaces in constant curvature spaces S^n, R^n, H^n, and prove that some special Willmore surfaces can be derived from minimal surfaces in S^n, R^n, H^n.  相似文献

This paper investigates the s-energy of (finite and infinite) well separated sequences of spherical designs on the unit sphere S 2. A spherical n-design is a point set on S 2 that gives rise to an equal weight cubature rule which is exact for all spherical polynomials of degree ≤n. The s-energy E s (X) of a point set of m distinct points is the sum of the potential for all pairs of distinct points . A sequence Ξ = {X m } of point sets X m S 2, where X m has the cardinality card(X m )=m, is well separated if for each pair of distinct points , where the constant λ is independent of m and X m . For all s>0, we derive upper bounds in terms of orders of n and m(n) of the s-energy E s (X m(n)) for well separated sequences Ξ = {X m(n)} of spherical n-designs X m(n) with card(X m(n))=m(n).   相似文献

In this paper we determined all of the possible self-mapping degrees of the manifolds with S3-geometry, which are supposed to be all 3-manifolds with finite fundamental groups. In this paper, we prove that and round geodesic spheres are the only n-dimensional compact embedded rotation hypersurfaces with Hm = 0 (1 ≤ mn − 1) in a unit sphere Sn+1(1). In this paper, we characterize a C *-subalgebra C *(x) of B(H), generated by a single operator x. We show that if x is polar-decomposed by aq, where a is the partial isometry part and q is the positive operator part of x, then C *(x) is *-isomorphic to the groupoid crossed product algebra Aq×a\mathbbGa\mathcal{A}_{q}\times_{\alpha }\mathbb{G}_{a} , where Aq=C*(q)\mathcal{A}_{q}=C^{*}(q) and \mathbbGa\mathbb{G}_{a} is the graph groupoid induced by a partial isometry part a of x.  相似文献

We consider the problem of prescribing scalar curvature on the standard 2-sphere S 2. It is proved that any positive smooth function on S 2 is the scalar curvature of some pointwise conformal metric, if an associated map has non-zero degree. For the multi-channel bulk-arrival queue, M x /M/c, Abol'nikov and Kabak independently obtained steady state results. In this paper the results of these authors are extended, corrected and simplified. A number of measures of efficiency are calculated for three cases where the arrival group size has: (i) a constant value, (ii) a geometric distribution, or (iii) a positive Poisson distribution. The paper also shows how to calculate fractiles for both the queue length and the waiting time distribution. Examples of extensive numerical results for certain measures of efficiency are presented in tabular and chart form.  相似文献

For integers nr, we treat the rth largest of a sample of size n as an \(\mathbb {R}^{\infty }\)-valued stochastic process in r which we denote as M(r). We show that the sequence regarded in this way satisfies the Markov property. We go on to study the asymptotic behavior of M(r) as r, and, borrowing from classical extreme value theory, show that left-tail domain of attraction conditions on the underlying distribution of the sample guarantee weak limits for both the range of M(r) and M(r) itself, after norming and centering. In continuous time, an analogous process Y(r) based on a two-dimensional Poisson process on \(\mathbb {R}_{+}\times \mathbb {R}\) is treated similarly, but we note that the continuous time problems have a distinctive additional feature: there are always infinitely many points below the rth highest point up to time t for any t >?0. Let M{\mathcal M} be a σ-finite von Neumann algebra and \mathfrak A{\mathfrak A} a maximal subdiagonal algebra of M{\mathcal M} with respect to a faithful normal conditional expectation F{\Phi} . Based on Haagerup’s noncommutative L p space Lp(M){L^p(\mathcal M)} associated with M{\mathcal M} , we give a noncommutative version of H p space relative to \mathfrak A{\mathfrak A} . If h 0 is the image of a faithful normal state j{\varphi} in L1(M){L^1(\mathcal M)} such that j°F = j{\varphi\circ \Phi=\varphi} , then it is shown that the closure of {\mathfrak Ah0\frac1p}{\{\mathfrak Ah_0^{\frac1p}\}} in Lp(M){L^p(\mathcal M)} for 1 ≤ p < ∞ is independent of the choice of the state preserving F{\Phi} . Moreover, several characterizations for a subalgebra of the von Neumann algebra M{\mathcal M} to be a maximal subdiagonal algebra are given.  相似文献

This paper considers the solution of a deterministic queueing system. In this system, the single server provides service in bulk with a threshold for the acceptance of customers into service. Analytic results are given for the steady-state probabilities of the number of customers in the system and in the queue for random and pre-arrival epochs. The solution of this system is a prerequisite to a four-point approximation to the model GI/G a,b /1. The paper demonstrates that the solution of such a system is not a trivial problem and can produce interesting results. The graphical solution discussed in the literature requires that the traffic intensity be a rational number. The results so generated may be misleading in practice when a control policy is imposed, even when the probability distributions for the interarrival and service times are both deterministic.  相似文献
