This work deals with an analytical approach to effective planning based upon the relative economics of projects contained in a program. A mathematical model is formulated to maximize the total return over the planning horizon subject to various annual cash flow and resource constraints. Stochastic mixed-integer programming is applied to determine the optimal sequence of project planning activities. To illustrate the use of the proposed procedure, a numerical example is solved using the mathematical programming software package SCICONIC/VM in a VAX-11/750 computer system.  相似文献

We discuss some results of a study carried out over the past 4 years to investigate the role of Modellus, a software package, in the development of an approach to teaching calculus for Biology majors. The central idea of the teaching approach is to propose the analysis of a mathematical model for a biological phenomenon at the very beginning of the course, in a way that this analysis is interrelated with some of the mathematical concepts listed in the syllabus. In this paper, we focus on the role of the software during the development of one of the activities proposed to the students, the purpose of which was to discuss the relation between secant lines and the instantaneous rate of change. It was found that this software played two roles in the development of this activity: providing information about the phenomenon and the model; and acting as a trigger, making evident to the student an important aspect that contributed to his understanding. Based on our theoretical perspective of digital technology, we believe that students’ interaction with the software played a fundamental role in the thinking collective composed of humans and media involved in mathematical learning.  相似文献

The Node Packing Problem is an extremely important problem given that it comprises the underlying structure of numerous optimization problems either directly or indirectly. This paper presents a constraint approach which produces new facets for the Node Packing Problem. A number of different problem applications are solved incorporating this new constraint approach using a commercial software package on a personal computer demonstrating the effectiveness of the underlying facets in practice. The new facet structures provide a means for addressing general dispersion and separation requirements using mathematical programming.  相似文献

In the field of simulation, the use of application-specific software can bring many benefits to the model-builder in terms of improved productivity and reduced skill requirements. Such software must have at its core a robust generic model for the application area which offers both the generality and sufficient detail to be able to simulate realistically. To develop such a core model, a thorough understanding of the problem area and simulation is needed. This paper describes one design for a generic core model for the simulation of office process flows where work volumes are substantial. It forms a part of a software package called SCOPE which provides a user-interface for data capture, and generates simulation models to be run using the HOCUS simulation software. Also described is the facility for static modelling which has been developed to make further use of the captured data using conventional mathematical modelling.  相似文献

A parallel software package designed for the numerical simulation of three-dimensional viscous gas flows is presented. The numerical algorithm is based on kinetically consistent difference schemes used on locally refined grids. The software package has been tested in various super-and subsonic flow problems. It provides an opportunity for the direct simulation of turbulent flows. The efficiency of parallelization is analyzed depending on the problem size and the number of processors.  相似文献
