In the Kobayashi-Maskawa model we compute a new contribution to the neutron electric dipole moment induced byCP violating flavour-changing transitions of the typessd+gluon+γ through heavy quark loops. This contribution, essentially given by the triangle anomaly graph, is by itself gauge invariant. We obtain from this mechanismD n /e=3.10?32 cm, one order of magnitude below our previous estimate from usual penguin diagram contributions.  相似文献

Measurement of azimuthal anisotropy is one of the most important study because of its relation to the initial stage. Especially, the elliptical anisotropy which is measured as the second coefficient of Fourier expansion of particle azimuthal distribution is believed to carry the information about the initial geometrical anisotropy. It seems the identified hadron v 2 depends on the number of quark contents of the hadron. The experimental result of quark number scaling of v 2 suggests quark level collectivity in the hot dense matter and quark coalescence mechanism to form hadron from quark matter via quark-gluon phase transition. The measured v 2 and p T spectra are analyzed with various assumptions based on the blast wave model in order to understand the freeze-out temperature and collective flow after the system expansion.  相似文献

We study the quark and gluon final state in deep inelastic μ-scattering. For a hadron observed at sufficiently large angleθ h with respect to the virtual photon direction, and sufficiently large energy fractionz h , this final state dominates the cross-section. Moreover, at the same time, most events in this regime are due to the fragmentation of the quark. In such cases the position of the gluon in phase space is determined, the quark acting as a trigger for gluon jet detection. We demonstrate that in the rest frame of the final quark and gluon, the gluon is energetic and well separated from quark and target fragments. We study the boost from the lab to this frame, and give expressions for the most probable boost in terms ofθ h andz h . This study should lead to a convenient visualization of the gluon jet.  相似文献

The significance of the quark-quark scattering process (quark+quark→quark+quark+photon) for the production of large-qT real photons is discussed in the framework of perturbative QCD. To extract the finite contribution of this process to the differential cross section dσ/dy d2qT (hadron 1+hadron 2→photon+anything) we define the gluon distribution and the quark-to-photon fragmentation function beyond the leading approximation. The calculations are performed consistently in the dimensional regularization scheme. Our numerical estimates show the resulting finite qq→qqγ contribution to be a small (order αs/2π) correction in comparison with the basic QCD subprocesses.  相似文献

It is indicated that the ground state of Fermi systems with (non)-Abelian gauge interactions has a well defined quantum theory devoid of infrared divergences and mass singularities. This is exploited to develop a systematic quantum theory of the quark gas. The equation of state of the quark gas is evaluated up to second order in the Gell-Mann-Low charge αS(μ). The analysis based on neutron matter models suggests that the matter in the neutron stars can be in the quark phase provided the color interaction is “moderately” strong i.e. αS (3 GeV) ? 0.3.  相似文献

We calculate the longitudinal contribution to the alignment polarization P l of quarks produced in e + e ? annihilation. In the Standard Model, the longitudinal alignment polarization vanishes at the Born term level and thus receives its first non-zero contribution from the O(αs) tree graph process. We provide analytical and numerical results for the longitudinal alignment polarization of massless and massive quarks, in particular for the recently discovered top quark.  相似文献

The contribution of the hard scattering subprocess quark + quark → quark + quark + gluon to two-particle inclusive distributions at large p is studied. It is shown to be accessible experimentally, and agrees with recent data on azimuthal distributions in the adequate kinematical region.  相似文献

The grand partition function of quark matter is developed about an arbitrary classical gauge field configuration in a systematic weak coupling expansion. In the presence of a finite density massless quark gas the instanton induced effective quark interaction is modified by a factor exp[?2NF(ω?)2], i.e. the baryon number chemical potential μ acts as an intrinsic infrared cutoff on the instanton scale size ?. On the basis of a bosonized Nambu- Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with derivative expansions, quark condensates in nuclear matter are studied at one-quark loop level and the dependence of meson masses and couplings on the constituent quark mass is investigated. The condensate ratio obtained here < q?q > ρB / < q?q > vac is roughly 0.66 with constituent quark mass of 313 MeV, which yields a corresponding σ N value to be roughly 42.2 MeV at the mean field level and σ N =31.4 MeV with the vacuum dependence, where the model parameters describing a Lorentz scalar and a vector field are self-determined.  相似文献

We calculate the effective two-loop potential of QCD with massive quarks in the CJT composite operator formalism. To perform the wave-function renormalization of composite operators we are lead to a condition which corresponds to the Adler-Dashen requirement in the limit of vanishing quark masses. The condition also assures absence of spontaneous breaking of parity. Pseudoscalar masses are calculated from the second derivatives of the effective potential, and a fit is obtained for quark masses mu = 3.6 MeV, md = 7 MeV, ms = 152 MeV. We also comment on consistuent quark masses and on the effect of heavy quarks.  相似文献

The matrix elements of operators containing both heavy quark (Q) and light quark (q) fields can contain large logarithms of the type ln(mQ2/μ2), where μ is a typical QCD mass scale and mQ is the heavy quark mass. We outline a method for summing leading logarithms of this type. We apply it to the decay constant fM of a low lying pseudoscalar meson M with Q̄q flavor quantum numbers and predict the ratios of decay constants for mesons with different heavy flavors. We also apply it to a matrix element of a four-quark operator which is relevant for B0−B̄0 mixing.  相似文献

Experimental data are used to constrain the parameters of the six quark mixing model and of a composite quark model. A combined fit of the mixing angles in the Kobayashi-Maskawa scheme gives sinθ 1=0.228±0.011 and error contours around the best values sinθ 2=0.12 and sinθ 3≈0. From this, a limit of τ B >0.35×10?13 s for the mean lifetime of bottom-flavoured hadrons is obtained. For the composite quark model of Katsumata and Tomozawa, a value of τ B =(0.22?0.23)10?13 s is derived.  相似文献

Assuming the validity of the universal multiplicity hypothesis of quantum chromodynamics, we estimate bounds on quark gluon coupling (αS) and quark mass (m) from the experimental data on charged hadron multiplicities. We obtain 0.3 < αS < 0.5 and m ≈ 100 MeV. Our analysis also suggests the universal quark confinement region to be ≈ O (mπ?1). Comparison with experiment is made for both the hadronic and leptonic induced reactions.  相似文献

The semileptonic decay of the top quark tbW+bl+νl is analyzed in the rest system of the W. The forward-backward asymmetry of the lepton l+ with respect to the heavy quark direction is defined and computed. It is argued that this observable will be an ideal tool to study top quark properties at Tevatron and LHC. We solve the Dyson equation and the Bethe-Salpeter equation for a nonlocal effective quark interaction kernel which is instantaneous and separable. The momentum-dependent dynamical quark mass, the scalar and pseudoscalar meson masses, the pion decay constant and the quark meson coupling constant are calculated at finite temperature in the Hartree approximation for the quark self energy. We obtain relations between these quantities, which coincide to leading order in the current quark mass (m 0m) with the basic low energy theorems: the Goldstone theorem, the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation and the Goldberger-Treimann relation at finite temperature. A formula for the σ?π mass gap is obtained which exhibits an additional contribution from the momentum dependence of the quark mass.  相似文献

Various QCD correlators are calculated in the instanton liquid model in zeromode approximation and 1/N c expansion. Previous works are extended by including dynamical quark loops. In contrast to the original “perturbative” 1/N c approximation, not all quark loops are suppressed. Renormalization of the instanton density allows the identification of the density with the gluon condensate even in presence of dynamical quark loops. In the flavor singlet meson correlators a chain of quark bubbles survives the N c → ∞ limit causing a massive η′ in the pseudoscalar correlator while keeping massless pions in the triplet correlator. The correlators are plotted and meson masses and couplings are obtained from a spectral fit. They are compared to the values obtained from numerical studies of the instanton liquid and to experimental results.  相似文献

The enhancement of the Λb decay width relative to B decay due to the difference in Fermi motion effects in Λband B is calculated in the light front quark model with the simplifying assumption that Λbconsists of a heavy quark and a light scalar diquark. In order to explain the large deviation from unity in the experimental result for τ(Λb)/τ(B), it is necessary that the diquark be light and the ratio of the squares of the Λb and B wave functions at the origin be ?1.  相似文献

It is argued that the color-averaged inclusive cross section dσ/d3p for the production of a heavy quark of given momentum p and given flavor is infrared-singularity free and therefore calculable in perturbative QCD if it is evaluated away from heavy quark thresholds and if the typical reaction energy Q is such that αs(Q)ln[Q/m(Q)] is small, αs and m being the strong coupling constant and the heavy quark mass respectively. An interpretation of this cross section is proposed in terms of heavy flavor hadronic production.  相似文献

A hierarchical pattern of chiral symmetries is introduced, whose breaking is supposed to lead to the observed hierarchical pattern of the quark mass spectrum. Specific consequences for the interplay between the quark masses and the weak interaction mixing parameters are derived, in accordance with the observational constraints. They can be regarded as stringent constraints for any realistic dynamical theory of the quark mass spectrum. CP violation is absent in the limit mu=md=0.
