It is shown that the data of Middleman, Ford and Hofstader on K-shell ionization by electrons with energy from 150 to 900 MeV is fit very well by a relativistic form of Bethe's theory of ionization.  相似文献

We evaluate the total cross section for the single K-shell ionization of atoms and ions by the impact of relativistic electrons. The study is performed to leading orders of the QED perturbation theory with respect to the parameters αZ and 1/Z. The results obtained are in good agreement with experimental data for different atomic targets. In the case of moderate values of the nuclear charge Z, the total cross section is described by a simple analytic formula. The K-shell ionization by relativistic heavy particles is also considered.  相似文献

A theoretical study of theL-shell ionization of atoms by relativistic electrons is made for atomic numbers in the range 47 to 92. A new potential model recently proposed by Das and Chakraborty dealing with atomic screening effect in a better way has been used. The results are in satisfactory agreement when compared with some available experimental results and also with the theoretical results of Scofield.  相似文献

The triple differential cross-section for K-shell ionization of silver and copper atoms by relativistic electrons have been computed in the coplanar symmetric geometry with the inclusion of exchange effects following the multiple scattering theory of Das and Seal [1] multiplied by suitable spinors. Present computed results are marginally improved in some cases from the previous computed results [2]. Present results are compared with measured values [3] and with previous computation results [2]. The cross section of electron impact ionization was determined for theK-shell in the case of the elements Ni, Y, Ag, Yb, Ta, Au and Pb at 670 and 490 keV as well as for theL-shell in the case of the elements Yb and Pb at 670, 490 and 350 keV and in the case of Ta at 670 and 490 keV. In superheavy quasimolecules the number of created 1-vacancies per collisionsP 1sσ can be evaluated approximately by a simple scaling law. This analytical relation correctly reproduces the measured dependence ofP 1sσ on the impact parameter, bombarding energy and combined nuclear chargeZ=Z 1+Z 2. It is emphasized, however, that the absolute ionization magnitude is underestimated typically by a factor of four. This discrepancy has been successfully resolved by the inclusion of multi-step excitation processes. It is shown that the derivation of the normalization constant in a scaling law previously reported by Armbruster's group is incorrect in the framework of first order perturbation theory.  相似文献

In the united atom limit of the molecular orbital ionization theory a scaling rule for the 1sσ molecular orbital direct ionization cross sections is proposed, and it is shown that a large amount of published slow ion-atom collision data can be organized on a universal curve. Experimental data for the nuclear excitation of115In by positron annihilation with K-shell electrons have been examined, taking account of the effective thickness of an In target used, and then the cross section res for resonance excitation to the 1078 keV energy level by positron annihilation has been reevaluated. The cross section for the process is induced by the measured effective cross section eff of nuclear excitation of the isomeric level115mIn. In this work the effective thicknesses of the In target for positrons with kinetic energies 83.9 and 470 keV have been estimated. The effective thickness r has been determined from a relation r=E/ ¦dE/dr¦, where E is the positron energy width at 83.9 or 470 keV, r is the mean distance traversed by them, and ¦dE/dr¦ the stopping power of indium for them. In the present case, K, the atomic-level width of the K-level of indium, is used as E. Neglecting a contribution from the 1464 keV level being much smaller than that from the 1078 keV level, a reevaluated value of res has been obtained as 1.7×10–25 cm2.  相似文献

The ratios of the K-shell ionization cross sections induced by deuterons to those induced by α-particles with the same velocities have been calculated in the plane wave Born approximation using relativistic hydrogenic wave functions for the target electrons. The numerical results are compared with the recent experimental valus of Chang et al. The use of relativistic wave functios considerably improves the agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The frequency redistribution function r(νi, νf) for scattering by relativistic electrons is derived, when this scattering is isotropic in the electron rest frame and recoil effects are neglected. In this communication we present theoretical demonstration of electron dichroism in the relativistic (e, 2e) process for K-shell ionization of atoms in non-coplanar asymmetric geometry. The theoretical formalism has been developed in plane wave Born approximation and in this approximation the triple differential cross-section (TDCS) has been expressed as a product of kinematical factors and atomic structure functions. The longitudinal spin asymmetry in the relativistic (e, 2e) process on K-shell of atoms has been shown to depend on the interference between the transition charge and component of the transition current in the direction perpendicular to the scattering plane. Further, the longitudinal spin asymmetry has been shown to depend on incident electron energy, atomic number of the target, azimuthal angle of the ejected electron and scattered electron angle.  相似文献

The characteristics of the electromagnetic radiation generated as a result of the interaction of relativistic electrons with a plasma are investigated. The main attention is paid to the analysis of the effect of broadening mechanisms on the bremsstrahlung energy spectrum of the relativistic electrons propagating in a carbon plasma upon deexcitation of its components.  相似文献
