Steady-state solutions to the problem of a thin vortex ring in an inviscid incompressible fluid in infinite space are investigated. The Fraenkel procedure is used to construct the steady-state solutions. In this procedure a given vorticity distribution in plane flow with circular streamlines is transformed into a steady vortex ring using an expansion in the ring thinness parameter. For example, a two-dimensional vortex of constant vorticity is transformed into a steady vortex ring with the uniform distribution in which the absolute value of vorticity is proportional to the distance from the axis of symmetry. The principal aim of our study is to construct the algorithm of finding the flow for an isochronous vortex ring in which the periods of revolution are the same for all the liquid particles in the vortex core. The problem is that the two-dimensional distribution which goes over in the isochronous ring in accordance with the Fraenkel procedure is unknown in advance. In particular, the ring with the uniform distribution is not isochronous despite the isochronism of the initial two-dimensional flow. In this connection the Fraenkel procedure is significantly modified so that the initial two-dimensional vorticity distribution is determined in each of the steps of the iteration procedure. The solution for the vortex ring with the uniform distribution obtained in the present study is significantly used to construct the isochronous solution. The necessary corrections to the former solution are calculated in each step. Obtaining of the isochronous flow is the key step for the investigation of stability of three-dimensional oscillations of the vortex ring since the oscillation spectrum of this flow is discrete.  相似文献

The velocity field inside a viscous vortex ring and its overall velocity are obtained on the basis of an existing solution of the Stokes equation for the vorticity in a moving coordinate system. It is shown that these characteristics of the motion relate the results obtained earlier for limiting times and are confirmed by the experimental data. The effect of the initial Reynolds number on the development of the vortex ring is analyzed by constructing entrainment diagrams.  相似文献

The response of the boundary layer on a plate with a blunt leading edge to frozen-in vortex perturbations whose vorticity is normal to the plate surface is found. It is shown that these vortices generate an inhomogeneity of the streamwise velocity component in the boundary layer. This inhomogeneity is analogous to the streaky structure developing as the degree of free-stream turbulence increases. The dependence of the amplitude and shape of the boundary layer inhomogeneity on the distance from the leading edge, the streamwise and spanwise scales, and other parameters is found for periodic and local initial perturbations. It is shown that the receptivity of the boundary layer decreases with increase in the frequency and with decrease in the streamwise perturbation scale.  相似文献

In this paper we construct and investigate the vortex structure consisting of a spherical vortex (vortex core) inside a spherical vortex layer (shell). A partial case of this structure is a spherical vortex with uniformly helical motion of the fluid within the core and the shell. The strengths of the helical flows in the core and the shell are generally different. The case of identical strengths is analyzed in detail. The streamline pattern is presented. The vortex velocity limit at which the vortex does not collapse is found. This proves to be less by a factor 1.7 than the analogous quantity for a vortex without a shell and 4 times lower than the maximum velocity of the Hill vortex.  相似文献

The vast majority of research works on low aspect ratio rotating wings report that, at high angle of attack, the leading edge vortex that forms on the upper surface of the wing is stable. This ‘trick’ is used by insects and auto-rotating seeds, for example, to achieve the desirable amount of lift. Yet, a few experimental studies suggest that leading edge vortices might be unstable under similar, low Rossby number, conditions. While it is unclear what causes vortex shedding in these studies, the present communication explores the sensitivity of leading edge vortex attachment to perturbations of the rotating speed and demonstrates that shedding can be triggered even for very small perturbations, corresponding to wing tip displacements lower than 1% of the wing chord.

The problem of natural convection of a binary mixture in a thin porous ring is considered. In the simplified formulation steady-state solutions of the problem are obtained. The stability of these solutions is investigated and a stability map is plotted in the plane of the Rayleigh numbers calculated from the temperature and concentration. It is shown that an auto-oscillation convection regime is established in the ring under certain conditions. It is also found that there is a region of variation of the seepage and diffusion-seepage Rayleigh numbers in which three steady-state solutions are stable.  相似文献

We examine the case when equally sized small moons arrange themselves on the vertices of a regular n-gon for n 7. For n 4, there are at least 3 pure imaginary characteristic exponents, each of which has multiplicity = 1, a surprising result that makes it possible to apply the Lyapunov center theorem to verify the existence of some periodic perturbations. For sufficiently large n, when the regular n-gon is the unique central configuration, the number of families of periodic perturbations is at least equal to 2n – (n + 1)/4, where x is the greatest integer less than or equal to x.  相似文献

For large Reynolds numbers, an asymptotic solution of the Navier-Stokes equations describing the effect of a thin longitudinal vortex with a constant circulation on the development of an incompressible steady two-dimensional laminar boundary layer on a flat plate is obtained. It is established that, in a narrow wall region extending along the vortex filament, the viscous flow is described by the 3-D boundary layer equations. A solution of these equations for small values of the vortex circulation is studied. It is found that the solution of the two-dimensional pre-separation boundary layer equations collapses. This is attributable to the singular behavior of the 3-D disturbances near the zero-longitudinal-friction points.  相似文献

The problem of convection in a thin porous elliptic ring located in an impermeable rock mass is considered. The geothermal gradient is assumed to deviate by a certain angle from the vertical axis of the ellipse. An analytic solution of the problem is obtained in the hydraulic approximation. Influence of localization waves to islands growing on a thin film is investigated. The film is modelled as a fluid layer covered by an inertial surface with the variable density of mass and surface tension. Mathematically, the problem is reduces to analysis of a system of non-linear equations describing the growth of island nuclei and wave propagation in the films. The existence of trapped modes for the corresponding frequency-domain problem is established. We show that for large time wave localization near islands gives some contribution in the increase of the velocity of island growth.  相似文献

In a previous paper, we presented a (noncanonical) Hamiltonian model for the dynamic interaction of a neutrally buoyant rigid body of arbitrary smooth shape with N closed vortex filaments of arbitrary smooth shape, modeled as curves, in an infinite ideal fluid in \mathbbR3\mathbb{R}^3. The setting of that paper was quite general, and the model abstract enough to make explicit conclusions regarding the dynamic behavior of such systems difficult to draw. In the present paper, we examine a restricted class of such systems for which the governing equations can be realized concretely and the dynamics examined computationally. We focus, in particular, on the case in which the body is a smooth sphere. The equations of motion and Hamiltonian structure of this dynamic system, which follow from the general model, are presented. Following this, we impose the constraint of axisymmetry on the entire system and look at the case in which the rings are all circles perpendicular to a common axis of symmetry passing through the center of the sphere. This axisymmetric model, in our idealized framework, is governed by ordinary differential equations and is, relatively speaking, easily integrated numerically. Finally, we present some plots of dynamic orbits of the axisymmetric system.  相似文献

In this paper we present and analyze a geometrically nonlinear formulation that models the unsteady motion of two and three-dimensional elastic structures in the case of large displacements-small strains. In a first part (Section 2) we derive the equations describing the motion of the body. In a second part (Section 3), existence of a weak solution is proved using a Galerkin method. The Nusselt solution for the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid with a free surface down an inclined plane is at best marginally stable, i.e., the linearization has essential spectrum at least up to the imaginary axis. Nevertheless, using a renormalization group approach here we establish the stability of the Nusselt solution in the full nonlinear system in case of linear stability by proving the self-similar decay of spatially localized perturbations. The asymptotic decay for is similar to the dynamics of localized perturbations of the trivial solution in the Burgers equation on the real line which is the amplitude equation of the problem.  相似文献
