A fully nonlinear sharp-boundary model of the ablative Rayleigh-Taylor instability is derived and closed in a similar way to the self-consistent closure of the linear theory. It contains the stabilizing effect of ablation and accurately reproduces the results of 2D DRACO simulations. The single-mode saturation amplitude, bubble and spike evolutions in the nonlinear regimes, and the seeding of long-wavelength modes via mode coupling are determined and compared with the classical theory without ablation. Nonlinear stability above the linear cutoff is also predicted. 相似文献

It is shown that nonlinear corrections to the frequencies of waves arising on a charged interface appear in calculation of
the third order of smallness. Because of them, the Tonks-Frenkel critical parameter and wavenumber of the most unstable mode
vary in proportion to a small parameter squared. When going through resonance positions, the amplitude coefficients of the
corrections change sign. Depending on the wavelength, nonlinear interaction between waves may decrease or increase the critical

A nonlinear stage of the two-dimensional Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two magnetic fluids of finite thickness is studied by including the effect of surface tension between the two fluids. The system is subjected to a tangential magnetic field. The method of multiple scale perturbations is used in order to obtain uniformly valid expansions near the cutoff wavenumber separating stable and unstable deformations. Two nonlinear Schrödinger equations are obtained, one of which leads to the determination of the cutoff wavenumber. The other Schrödinger equation is used to analyze the stability of the system. It is found that if a finite-amplitude disturbance is stable, then a small modulation to the wave is also stable. It is also found that the tangential magnetic field plays a dual role in the stability criterion. Finally, the magnetic permeability constants of the fluid affect the stability conditions. 相似文献

In a Rayleigh-Taylor instability a dense fluid sits metastably atop a less dense fluid, a configuration that can be stabilized using a magnetic field gradient when one fluid is highly paramagnetic. On switching off the magnetic field, the instability occurs as the dense fluid falls under gravity. By affixing appropriately shaped magnetically permeable wires to the outside of the cell, one may impose arbitrarily chosen and well-controlled initial perturbations on the interface. This technique is used to examine both the linear and nonlinear growth regimes for which the perturbation amplitudes, growth rates, and nonlinear growth coefficients are obtained. 相似文献

The effect of the grid in the vortex-in-cell algorithm on the linear growth rates for an interface undergoing Rayleigh-Taylor instability is studied. Results show that the effect of the grid is qualitatively equivalent to the effect of surface tension. It is also found that only wavelengths which are ten times longer than the grid spacing are resolved with error of less than 10% in the growth rate. 相似文献

We investigate long time numerical simulations of the inviscid Rayleigh-Taylor instability at Atwood number one using a boundary integral method. We are able to attain the asymptotic behavior for the spikes predicted by Clavin and Williams for which we give a simplified demonstration. In particular, we observe that the spike's curvature evolves as t(3), while the overshoot in acceleration shows good agreement with the suggested 1/t(5) law. Moreover, we obtain consistent results for the prefactor coefficients of the asymptotic laws. Eventually we exhibit the self-similar behavior of the interface profile near the spike. 相似文献

The highly nonlinear evolution of the single-mode Rayleigh-Taylor instability (RTI) at the ablation front of an accelerated target is investigated in the parameter range typical of inertial confinement fusion implosions. A new phase of the nonlinear bubble evolution is discovered. After the linear growth phase and a short constant-velocity phase, it is found that the bubble is accelerated to velocities well above the classical value. This acceleration is driven by the vorticity accumulation inside the bubble resulting from the mass ablation and vorticity convection off the ablation front. While the ablative growth rates are slower than their classical values in the linear regime, the ablative RTI grows faster than the classical RTI in the nonlinear regime for deuterium and tritium ablators. 相似文献

The mixing of contacting substances is considered. The evolution of the mixing layer over a long time period from multimode initial perturbations is investigated numerically in the short-scale and wide-range cases. In the case of a short-scale initiation, the flow is stochastic in the sense that the time of the considered evolution exceeds the period of correlation. The effect of the amplitude of wide-range perturbations on the dynamics of mixing is analyzed. The scale-invariant properties of the spectral and statistical parameters of turbulent mixing are investigated for the first time. The universal spectra characterizing the turbulence mixing in the entire self-similar interval on a unified basis are obtained. The simulation is based on the effective algorithms with high approximating qualities, which have been tested earlier. 相似文献

An analytical study of the gradient drift instability in the equatorial electrojet of wavelengths in the order of one kilometer is presented. Different mechanisms, linear, non-local and turbulent, are found in the literature to explain the predominance of the 1 km wavelength in the electrojet. In the present work a simplified model is proposed in which the nonlinear evolution of three coupled modes is followed. By considering that one of the modes attains the stationary state, the evolution of the other two is obtained, and it is found that they follow equations of the Lotka–Volterra type. A stable stationary nonlinear solution for these equations is also found, and the conditions under which periodic solutions are possible are analyzed. 相似文献

A weakly nonlinear model is proposed for the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the presence of ablation and thermal transport. The second harmonic generation efficiency of a single-mode disturbance is computed, as well as the nonlinear correction to the exponential growth of the fundamental modulation. Mode coupling in the spectrum of a multimode disturbance is thoroughly analyzed. The ablative stabilization can be clearly discussed because the derived formulas for the evanescent ablation rate are in agreement with previously known results for incompressible, inviscid, irrotational, and immiscible fluids [S. W. Haan, Phys. Fluids B 3, 2349 (1991)]; M. Berning and A. M. Rubenchik, Phys. Fluids 10, 1564 (1998)]]. 相似文献
