The hadronic photon structure function is measured from data taken with the ALEPH detector at LEP. At centre-of-mass energies between and an integrated luminosity of is analyzed in two ranges of Q2 with GeV2 and 67.2 GeV2. Detector effects and acceptance are corrected for with a Tikhonov unfolding procedure. For the first time at LEP the production of prompt photons is studied in the collisions of quasi-real photons using the OPAL data taken at centre-of-mass energies between 183 GeV and 209 GeV. The total inclusive production cross-section for isolated prompt photons in the kinematic range of transverse momentum GeV and pseudorapidity is determined to be . Differential cross-sections are compared to the predictions of a next-to-leading-order (NLO) calculation.Received: 6 May 2003, Published online: 4 November 2003  相似文献

Measurements of on-shell ZZ production are described, using data from the DELPHI experiment at LEP in e + e - collisions at centre-of-mass energies between 183 and 209 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 665 pb-1. Results obtained in each of the final states , , , , , l + l - l + l -, and (with ) are presented. The measured production cross-sections are consistent with the Standard Model expectations. These results update and supersede those already published at 183 and 189 GeV.Received: 3 March 2002, Revised: 28 May 2003, Published online: 19 September 2003  相似文献

The W + W- production cross section is measured from a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 683 pb-1, collected by the ALEPH experiment at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV. Individual cross sections for the different topologies arising from W decays into leptons or hadrons, as well as the total W-pair cross section are given at eight centre-of-mass energies. The results are found to be in agreement with recently developed Standard Model calculations at the one percent level. The hadronic branching fraction of the W boson is measured to be = 67.13 0.37(stat.) 0.15(syst.)%, from which the CKM matrix element is determined to be 0.958 0.017(stat.) 0.008(syst.)Received: 1 October 2004, Published online: 15 November 2004  相似文献

Upper limits on the cross-section of the pair-production process , assuming 100 branching fraction to hadrons, are derived from a new search for the hadrons final state, independently of the hadronic flavour of the decay products. This study, combined with previously published searches for the neutral Higgs bosons h0 and A0, is used to constrain the Type II Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM(II)) with no CP violation in the Higgs sector and no additional non-Standard Model particles besides the five Higgs bosons. The analysis combines LEP1 and LEP2 data collected with the OPAL detector up to the highest available centre-of-mass energies. The searches are sensitive to the and decay modes of the Higgs bosons. A benchmark scan of the 2HDM(II) parameter space is performed. Large regions of the 2HDM(II) parameter space explored are excluded at the 95% CL in the ( and planes, using both direct neutral Higgs boson searches and indirect limits derived from Standard Model high precision measurements. The region GeV and GeV is excluded at 95 % CL, independently of and for selected values of which are representative of a complete -scan.Received: 28 July 2004, Revised: 4 January 2005, Published online: 3 March 2005  相似文献

A search for pair-produced charged Higgs bosons was performed in the data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP II at centre-of-mass energies from 189 GeV to 209 GeV. Five different final states, , , , and were considered, accounting for the major expected decays in type I and type II Two Higgs Doublet Models. No significant excess of data compared to the expected Standard Model processes was observed. The existence of a charged Higgs boson with mass lower than 76.7 GeV/c2 (type I) or 74.4 GeV/c2 (type II) is excluded at the 95% confidence level, for a wide range of the model parameters. Model independent cross-section limits have also been calculated.Received: 30 September 2003, Revised: 12 February 2004, Published online: 8 April 2004  相似文献

The spin-parity analysis of the data on the annihilation reaction at rest in liquid and in gaseous hydrogen at 3 bar pressure and in flight at momentum of MeV/c, collected by the Obelix spectrometer at the LEAR complex of CERN, is presented. The relative branching ratios and are obtained. It is also shown that the inclusion of the exotic meson , JPC = 1- + , mass and width , GeV/c2, in its decay to , improves the fit and some implications of these results are briefly discussed. The relative S and P-wave annihilation percentages in four charged pions at two target densities are obtained.Received: 2 December 2003, Published online: 23 April 2004  相似文献

production in interactions has been detected via its decays into ,K + K - K + K - and in the data taken with the DELPHI detector at LEP1 and LEP2 energies. The two-photon radiative width averaged over all observed decay channels is = 13.9 2.0 (stat.) 1.4(syst.) 2.7 (BR) keV. No direct decay channel has been observed. An upper limit < 5.5 keV at 95% confidence level has been evaluated for this decay mode.Received: 3 July 2003, Published online: 7 November 2003  相似文献

Bose-Einstein correlations between like-sign charged-particle pairs in events recorded with the OPAL detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies between 183 GeV and 209 GeV are studied. Recently proposed methods which allow direct searches for correlations in the data via distributions of test variables are used to investigate the presence of correlations between hadrons originating from different W bosons in events. Within the statistics of the data sample no evidence for inter-WW Bose-Einstein correlations is obtained. The data are also compared with predictions of a recent implementation of Bose-Einstein correlation effects in the Monte Carlo model PYTHIAReceived: 24 March 2004, Revised: 7 June 2004, Published online: 20 July 2004  相似文献

The production of , D0, D + , Ds + and charm hadrons and their antiparticles in e p scattering at HERA was measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of . The measurement has been performed in the photoproduction regime with the exchanged-photon virtuality and for photon-proton centre-of-mass energies in the range . The charm hadrons were reconstructed in the range of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity . The production cross sections were used to determine the ratio of neutral and charged D-meson production rates, , the strangeness-suppression factor, , and the fraction of charged D mesons produced in a vector state, . The measured and values agree with those obtained in deep inelastic scattering and in e + e- annihilations. The measured value is smaller than, but consistent with, the previous measurements. The fractions of c quarks hadronising as a particular charm hadron, , were derived in the given kinematic range. The measured open-charm fragmentation fractions are consistent with previous results, although the measured is smaller and is larger than those obtained in e + e- annihilations. These results generally support the hypothesis that fragmentation proceeds independently of the hard sub-process. Tau lepton decays with open strangeness in the final state are measured with the OPAL detector at LEP to determine the strange hadronic spectral function of the lepton. The decays , and with final states consisting of neutral and charged kaons and pions have been studied. The invariant mass distributions of of these final states have been experimentally determined. Monte Carlo simulations have been used for the remaining and for the strange final states including mesons. The reconstructed strange final states, corrected for resolution effects and detection efficiencies, yield the strange spectral function of the lepton. The moments of the spectral function and the ratio of strange to non-strange moments, which are important input parameters for theoretical analyses, are determined. Furthermore, the branching fractions and have been measured.Received: 18 February 2004, Revised: 30 April 2004, Published online: 15 June 2004  相似文献

Measurements of the time-dependent CP-asymmetry in the decay and its charge conjugate by the BELLE and BABAR collaborations currently yield and , characterizing the direct and mixing-induced CP-asymmetries, respectively. We study the implication of these measurements on the CKM phenomenology taking into account the available information in the quark mixing sector. Our analysis leads to the results that the ratio |P c /T c | involving the QCD-penguin and tree amplitudes and the related strong phase difference in the decays are quite substantial. Using the isospin symmetry to constrain |P c /T c | and , where parameterizes the penguin-induced contribution, we present a fit of the current data including the measurements of and . Our best-fits yield , , , , and . At 68% C.L., the ranges are , , , and . Currently en vogue dynamical approaches to estimate the hadronic matrix elements in decays do not provide a good fit of the current data.Received: 5 April 2004, Published online: 14 July 2004A.Ya. Searches for pair-production of supersymmetric particles under the assumption of non-conservation of R-parity with a dominant LL or term have been performed using the data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP in e + e- collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 up to 208 GeV. No excess of data above Standard Model expectations was observed. The results were used to constrain the MSSM parameter space and to derive limits on the masses of supersymmetric particles.Received: 4 March 2004, Revised: 5 May 2004, Published online: 23 June 2004An Erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

The branching ratio of beauty hadrons to final states containing two charm hadrons, Br(b , has been measured using an inclusive method in hadronic Z0 decays with the OPAL detector at LEP. The impact parameter significance of tracks opposite tagged b-jets is used to differentiate b decays from other decays. The result is where det. is the systematic uncertainty due to the modelling of the detector, and is the systematic uncertainty due to the modelling of the underlying physics. Using this result, the average number of charm plus anti-charm quarks produced in a beauty quark decay, nc, is found to be 1.12 + 0.11-0.10.Received: 11 July 2003, Published online: 18 May 2004  相似文献

The tau lepton lifetime has been measured with the events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in the years 1991-1995. Three different methods have been exploited, using both one-prong and three-prong decay channels. Two measurements have been made using events in which both taus decay to a single charged particle. Combining these measurements gave . A third measurement using taus which decayed to three charged particles yielded These were combined with previous DELPHI results to measure the tau lifetime, using the full LEP1 data sample, to be .Received: 12 November 2003, Revised: 1 June 2004, Published online: 20 July 2004  相似文献

A study of Z-boson pair production in e + e- annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 190 GeV and 209 GeV is reported. Final states containing only leptons, ( and ), quark and lepton pairs, ( , ) and only hadrons ( ) are considered. In all states with at least one Z boson decaying hadronically, lifetime, lepton and event-shape tags are used to separate pairs from final states. Limits on anomalous ZZ and ZZZ couplings are derived from the measured cross sections and from event kinematics using an optimal observable method. Limits on low scale gravity with large extra dimensions are derived from the cross sections and their dependence on polar angle.Received: 14 July 2003, Published online: 18 December 2003  相似文献

A study of elliptic flow and two-particle azimuthal correlations of charged particles ( GeV/c) and high- pions ( GeV/c) in Pb + Au collisions at 158A GeV/c, close to midrapidity, is presented. Elliptic flow (v 2) rises linearly with to a value of about 10 at 2 GeV/c. Beyond 1.5 GeV/c, the slope decreases and possibly indicates a v 2 saturation at high . Two-pion azimuthal anisotropies for 1.2 GeV/c exceed the v 2 values by about 60 in semicentral collisions. This non-flow component is attributed to near-side and away-side jetlike correlations. While the near-side peak remains constant with centrality 0.23 0.03 rad, as expected for fragmentation, the away-side peak experiences broadening and disappears in central collisions. In the CP-violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), for certain values of the CP-violating phases associated to the universal trilinear couplings (At, Ab) and the gluino mass , e.g., or , for GeV and -5, the lightest Higgs boson mass ( ) is GeV. This mass interval is still allowed by results of standard LEP Higgs searches because of a strongly suppressed H1ZZ coupling. However, in the same region of parameter space in which these two conditions occur, the coupling is enhanced because the two mentioned sets of couplings satisfy a sum rule. In this paper we probe such a light Higgs scenario at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by studying associate production, leading to a signal. We show that the latter is readily accessible at the CERN hadron collider, upon the application of suitable selection cuts against the standard model (SM) backgrounds. Our parton level Monte Carlo (MC) analysis yields -45 signal events, completely free of SM background, for - 30 fb-1 of accumulated luminosity, after taking into account the overall efficiency for tagging four b-jets.Received: 21 February 2005, Published online: 6 July 2005  相似文献
