In this paper we study the relativistic quantum dynamics of a massless fermion confined in a quantum ring. We use a model of confining potential and introduce the interaction via Dirac oscillator coupling, which provides ring confinement for massless Dirac fermions. The energy levels and corresponding eigenfunctions for this model in graphene layer in the presence of Aharonov–Bohm flux in the centre of the ring and the expression for persistent current in this model are derived. We also investigate the model for quantum ring in graphene layer in the presence of a disclination and a magnetic flux. The energy spectrum and wave function are obtained exactly for this case. We see that the persistent current depends on parameters characterizing the topological defect.  相似文献

The Hall conductivity of an electron gas on an interface showing a topological defectcalled screw dislocation is investigated. This kind of defect induces a singular torsionon the medium which in turn induces transverse modes in the quantum Hall effect. It isshown that this topology decreases the plateaus’ widths and shifts the steps in the Hallconductivity to lower magnetic fields. The Hall conductivity is neither enhanced nordiminished by the presence of this kind of defect alone. We also consider the presence oftwo defects on a sample, a screw dislocation together with a disclination. For a specificvalue of deficit angle, there is a reduction in the Hall conductivity. For an excess ofangle, the steps shift to higher magnetic fields and the Hall conductivity is enhanced. Our work could be tested only in common semiconductors but we think it opens a road to theinvestigation on how topological defects can influence other classes of Hall effect.  相似文献

In this work we study the interaction of a charged quantum mechanical particle with magnetic moment in a space with a screw dislocation. We focus on the influence of the screw dislocation on the energy spectrum and eigenfunctions of the electron with spin-1/2 in a uniform magnetic field. We use the approach of the continuum theory of defects that is isomorphic to three-dimensional gravity.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the analogue effect to the Aharonov-Bohm effect for bound states in a relativistic quantum system described by the Klein-Gordon oscillator in the cosmic string space-time with a spacelike dislocation. We assume the topological defects have an internal magnetic flux and then analyze the effect on the relativistic energy eigenvalue subject to a Cornell-type potential and subsequently with a Coulomb-type potential. We show the presence of various potential parameters, the torsion parameter as well the cosmic string modify the energy spectrum.  相似文献

In this work we study the effects of the geometry and topology of a cylinder on the energy levels of an electron moving in a homogeneous magnetic field. We consider the existence of topological defects as a screw dislocation and a disclination. When we take the region of movement as the full cylindrical surface, we find that, by increasing the strength of the screw dislocation, the dispersion on the electronic energy levels is affected and monotonically increasing. For an electron moving in an almost flat region we show that the dispersion on the Landau levels decrease monotonically as we increase the strength of the screw dislocation. The lowest Landau level can reach a zero value, leaving the energy of the system solely given by the geometry of the cylinder, which does not depend on the magnetic field. In both situations, as we change the deficit angle of the disclination, we observe that the energy levels are shifted and the magnitude of such shift depends on the magnetic field. The Landau levels for a flat sample are recovered in the limit of an infinite cylinder radius.  相似文献

We calculate the energy states and Aharonov--Bohm oscillations of an electron in elliptical quantum rings in the presence of a uniform magnetic field by using an exact numerical diagonalization. The calculated results show that the elliptical quantum rings are flatter, larger amplitudes and periods of the Aharonov--Bohm oscillations are observed. In addition, in the limits of a circular quantum ring, the results of our approach are in good agreement with those of earlier theories.  相似文献

Recently it was demonstrated that the rotational and vibrational spectra of quantum rings containing few electrons can be described quantitatively by an effective spin-Hamiltonian combined with rigid center-of-mass rotation and internal vibrations of localized electrons. We use this model Hamiltonian to study the quantum rings at finite temperatures and in presence of a nonzero magnetic field. Total spin, angular momentum and pair correlation show similar phase diagram which can be understood with help of the rotational spectrum of the ring. This work presents a theoretical study of the energy spectrum of GaAs/AlGaAs concentric double quantum rings, under an applied magnetic field directed perpendicular to the ring plane. The Schrödinger equation for this system is solved in a realistic model consisting of rings with finite barrier potentials. Numerical results show that increasing the magnetic field intensity leads to oscillations in the ground state energy which, in contrast to the usual Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, do not have a well defined period, due to the coupling between inner and outer ring states. However, when one considers an elliptical geometry for the rings, the energy spectra of the inner and outer ring states are decoupled and the periodicity of the oscillations is recovered.  相似文献

In this Letter, we introduce a geometric model to explain the origin of the observed shallow levels in semiconductors threaded by a dislocation density. We show that a uniform distribution of screw dislocations acts as an effective uniform magnetic field which yields bound states for a spin-half quantum particle, even in the presence of a repulsive Coulomb-like potential. This introduces energy levels within the band gap, increasing the carrier concentration in the region threaded by the dislocation density and adding additional recombination paths other than the near band-edge recombination.  相似文献

In this work, we study the low-energy electronic spectrum of a graphene layer structure with a disclination in the presence of a magnetic field. We make this study using the continuum approach, where we use the geometric theory of topological defects to introduce a disclination in a graphene layer, and the electrons are described by the massless Dirac equation in this curved background. The bound states energy spectrum and eigenfunctions are also obtained and an explicit dependence was found on the parameter that characterizes the topological defect and on the magnetic field.  相似文献

We present numerical investigations of the transmission properties of electrons in a normal quantum wire tangentially attached to a superconductor ring threaded by magnetic flux. A point scatterer with a δ -function potential is placed at node to model scattering effect. We find that the transmission characteristics of electrons in this structure strongly depend on the normal or superconducting state of the ring. The transmission probability as a function of the energy of incident electrons, in the case of a superconductor ring threaded by one quantum magnetic flux, emerges one deep dip, imposed upon the first broad bump in spectrum. This intrinsic conductance dip originates from the superconductor state of the ring. When increasing the magnetic flux from one quantum magnetic flux to two, the spectrum shifts toward higher energy region in the whole. This conductance dip accordingly shifts and appears in the second bump. In the presence of a point-scatterer at the node, the spectrum is substantially modified. Based on the condition of the formation of the standing wave functions in the ring and the broken of the time-reserve symmetry of Schr?dinger equation after switching magnetic flux, the characteristics of transmission of electrons in this structure can be well understood. We study the spin currents induced by topological screw dislocation and cosmic dispiration. By using the extended Drude model, we find that the spin dependent forces are modified by the nontrivial geometry. For the topological screw dislocation, only the direction of spin current is bent by deforming the spin polarization vector. In contrast, the force induced by cosmic dispiration could affect both the direction and magnitude of the spin current. As a consequence, the spin-Hall conductivity does not receive corrections from screw dislocation.  相似文献

Spectroscopy of nanoscopic semiconductor rings   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Making use of self-assembly techniques, we realize nanoscopic semiconductor quantum rings in which the electronic states are in the true quantum limit. We employ two complementary spectroscopic techniques to investigate both the ground states and the excitations of these rings. Applying a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the rings, we find that, when approximately one flux quantum threads the interior of each ring, a change in the ground state from angular momentum l = 0 to l = -1 takes place. This ground state transition is revealed both by a drastic modification of the excitation spectrum and by a change in the magnetic-field dispersion of the single-electron charging energy.  相似文献

In this contribution we investigate the non-relativistic quantum dynamics of induced electric dipoles in the presence of a topological defect. We propose an analog of Landau quantization for neutral atoms, where a electric dipole is induced by the electromagnetic field configuration. We investigate this system in the presence of a topological defect and show that it breaks the infinite degeneracy of Landau levels.  相似文献

We investigate the electron transmission through a structure of serial mesoscopic metallic rings coupled to two external leads. A set of analytical expressions based on the quantum waveguide transport and the transfer matrix method are derived and used to discuss the effects of geometric configurations on transmission probabilities. It is found that in the contact ring case the existence of an applied magnetic flux is necessary to create transmission gaps, while in the non-contact ring case transmission gaps always appear irrespective of whether there is an applied magnetic flux or not. The transmissions for periodic rings with a defect ring and periodic rings built by two sorts of rings are also briefly studied. It is also found that the transmission periodicity with wave vector must be ensured by the commensurability of two characteristic lengths, i.e., of the half perimeter of a ring and the connecting wire between two adjacent rings. The special points of wave vector and magnetic flux which give rise to the transmission resonance and antiresonance are analyzed in detail.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of the energy spectrum of single electron and hole states in quantum dots of annular geometry under a high magnetic field along the ring axis in the frame of uncorrelated electron-hole theory. We predict the periodic disappearance of the optical emission of the electron-hole pair as the magnetic field increases, as a consequence of the finite height of the barriers. The model has been applied to semiconductor rings of various internal and external radii, giving as limiting cases the disk and antidot.  相似文献

Influences of topological defect and dislocation on conductivity behavior of charge carriers in external electromagnetic fields are studied.Particularly the quantum Hall effect is investigated in detail. It is found that the nontrivial deformations of spacetime due to topological defect and dislocation produce an eiectric current at the leading order of perturbation theory. This current then induces a deformation on the Hall conductivity. The corrections on the Hall conductivity depend on the external electric fields, the size of the sample and the momentum of the particle.  相似文献

Here, we study the effects of the number of sites, quantum ring radius and potential well depth on the energy levels, persistent current, magnetic susceptibility and density of states (DOS) of a quantum ring with a quantum well within its circumstance in a magnetic flux perpendicular to its plane. We show that, for small radius quantum ring systems, there are periodic local gaps along the magnetic flux axis in the DOS plots and along the axis ‘energy’. For large radius quantum ring systems, a uniform gap along the energy axis exists and along the phi axis nothing changes. In quantum rings with a quantum well in their circumstance, by using the large confining potential, we can create uniform gaps in the Energy–phi plane. The energy eigenvalues, persistent current and magnetic susceptibility decrease by increasing the confining potential. A quantum ring even with a very small confining potential in its circumstance can sensibly decrease the persistent current and magnetic susceptibility, although it may do not change the energy eigenvalues and DOS maximum considerably. Thus, by using the abovementioned parameters, we are able to tune the DOS, persistent current, magnetic susceptibility and energy levels, desirably.  相似文献
