Spectral Element Viscosity Methods for Nonlinear Conservation Laws on the Semi-Infinite Interval

In this paper we propose a spectral element: vanishing viscosity (SEW) method for the conservation laws on the semi-infinite interval. By using a suitable mapping, the problem is first transformed into a modified conservation law in a bounded interval, then the well-known spectral vanishing viscosity technique is generalized to the multi-domain case in order to approximate this trarsformed equation more efficiently. The construction details and convergence analysis are presented. Under a usual assumption of boundedness of the approximation solutions, it is proven that the solution of the SEW approximation converges to the uniciue entropy solution of the conservation laws. A number of numerical tests is carried out to confirm the theoretical results.

Mean Index for Non-periodic Orbits in Hamiltonian Systems

In this paper, we define mean index for non-periodic orbits in Hamiltonian systems and study its properties. In general, the mean index is an interval in R which is uniformly continuous on the systems. We show that the index interval is a point for a quasi-periodic orbit. The mean index can be considered as a generalization of rotation number defined by Johnson and Moser in the study of almost periodic Schr?dinger operators. This paper generalizes the method of constructing measure by repeated finite subdivision in fractal geometry to that by infinite subdivision. Two conditions for the existing method are removed. A measure on the interval [0,1] is constructed using this generalized method.     

ONE LINEAR ANALYTIC APPROXIMATION FOR STOCHASTIC INTEGRODIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

This article concerns the construction of approximate solutions for a general stochastic integrodifferential equation which is not explicitly solvable and whose coeffcients functionally depend on Lebesgue integrals and stochastic integrals with respect to martingales. The approximate equations are linear ordinary stochastic differential equations, the solutions of which are defined on sub-intervals of an arbitrary partition of the time interval and connected at successive division points. The closeness of the initial and approximate solutions is measured in the L^p-th norm, uniformly on the time interval. The convergence with probability one is also given.

The problem has important applications to numerical algebra, V LSI-layout and algorithm graph theory etc; And it has been known to be N P-complete on general graphs. Some classes of special graphs have been investigated in the literatures. In this paper the interval graph completion problem on split graphs is investigated.     

Lifting Unitary Elements with Application to Approximately Inner Automorphisms

Let A be a separable unital nuclear simple C＊-algebra with torsion K0 （A）, free K1 （A） and with the UCT. Let T ： A→M（K）/K be a unital homomorphism. We prove that every unitary element in the commutant of T（A） is an exponent, thus it is liftable. We also prove that each automorphism α on E with α ∈ Aut0（A） is approximately inner, where E is a unital essential extension of A by K and α is the automorphism on A induced by α.     

CLOSED SMOOTH SURFACE DEFINED FROM CUBIC TRIANGULAR SPLINES

In order to construct closed surfaces with continuous unit normal, we introduce a news pline space on an arbitrary closed mesh of three-sided faces. Our approach generalizes an idea of Goodman and is based on the concept of ‘Geometric continuity‘ for piecewise polynomial parametrizations. The functions in the spline space restricted to the faces are cubic triangular polynomials. A basis of the spline space is constructed of positive functions which sum to 1. It is also shown that the space is suitable for interpolating data at the midpoints of the faces。     

Global Well-Posedness and Scattering for the Defocusing ˙H s-Critical NLS

The authors consider the scattering phenomena of the defocusing H^s-critical NLS. It is shown that if a solution of the defocusing NLS remains bounded in the critical homogeneous Sobolev norm on its maximal interval of existence, then the solution is global and scatters.     

Confident estimation for density of a biological population based on line transect sampling

Line transect sampling is a very useful method in survey of wildlife population. Confident interval estimation for density D of a biological population is proposed based on a sequential design. The survey area is occupied by the population whose size is unknown. A stopping rule is proposed by a kernel-based estimator of density function of the perpendicular data at a distance. With this stopping rule, we construct several confidence intervals for D by difference procedures. Some bias reduction techniques are used to modify the confidence intervals. These intervals provide the desired coverage probability as the bandwidth in the stopping rule approaches zero. A simulation study is also given to illustrate the performance of this proposed sequential kernel procedure.

This paper is contributed to the combinatorial properties of the periodic kneading words of antisymmetric cubic maps defined on a interval. On the structure of graded <Emphasis Type="Italic">λ</Emphasis>-Hopf algebras

Let G be an abelian group, B the G-graded λ-Hopf algebra with A being a bicharacter on G. By introducing some new twisted algebras （coalgebras）, we investigate the basic properties of the graded antipode and the structure for B. We also prove that a G-graded λ-Hopf algebra can be embedded in a usual Hopf algebra. As an application, it is given that if G is a finite abelian group then the graded antipode of a finite dimensional G-graded A-Hopf algebra is invertible.     

On Representations Associated with Completely n-Positive Linear Maps on Pro-C^＊-Algebras

It is shown that an n × n matrix of continuous linear maps from a pro-C^＊-algebra A to L（H）, which verifies the condition of complete positivity, is of the form [V^＊TijФ（·）V]^n i,where Ф is a representation of A on a Hilbert space K, V is a bounded linear operator from H to K, and j=1,[Tij]^n i,j=1 is a positive element in the C^＊-algebra of all n×n matrices over the commutant of Ф（A） in L（K）. This generalizes a result of C. Y.Suen in Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 112（3）, 1991, 709-712. Also, a covariant version of this construction is given.     

A Necessary and Sufficient Condition for the Solvability of the Nonlinear Schr?dinger Equation on a Finite Interval

The admissibility of the initial-boundary data,which characterizes the existence of solution for the initial-boundary value problem,is important.Based on the Fokas method and the inverse scattering transformation,an approach is developed to solve the initial-boundary value problem of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation on a finite interval.A necessary and sufficient condition for the admissibility of the initial-boundary data is given,and the reconstruction of the potential is obtained.     

STEADY-STATE SOLUTIONS FOR A ONE-DIMENSIONAL NONISENTROPIC HYDRODYNAMIC MODEL WITH NON-CONSTANT LATTICE TEMPERATURE

A one-dimensional stationary nonisentropic hydrodynamic model for semiconductor devices with non-constant lattice temperature is studied. This model consists of the equations for the electron density, the electron current density and electron temperature, coupled with the Poisson equation of the electrostatic potential in a bounded interval supplemented with proper boundary conditions. The existence and uniqueness of a strong subsonic steady-state solution with positive particle density and positive temperature is established. The proof is based on the fixed-point arguments, the Stampacchia truncation methods, and the basic energy estimates.     

Survival probability and ruin probability of a risk model

In this paper, a new risk model is studied in which the rate of premium income is regarded as a random variable, the arrival of insurance policies is a Poisson process and the process of claim occurring is p-thinning process. The integral representations of the survival probability are gotten. The explicit formula of the survival probability on the infinite interval is obtained in the special casc cxponential distribution.The Lundberg inequality and the common formula of the ruin probability are gotten in terms of some techniques from martingale theory.
