Algebraic and combinatorial properties of a monomial ideal are studied in terms of its associated radical ideals. In particular, we present some applications to the symbolic powers of square-free monomial ideals.  相似文献

We study the set of Cohen-Macaulay monomial ideals with a given radical. Among this set of ideals are the so-called Cohen-Macaulay modifications. Not all Cohen-Macaulay squarefree monomial ideals admit nontrivial Cohen-Macaulay modifications. It is shown that if there exists one such modification, then there exist indeed infinitely many.  相似文献

In this note we discuss a simple algebraic calculation of the multiplier ideal associated to a monomial ideal in affine -space. We indicate how this result allows one to compute not only the multiplier ideal but also the log canonical threshold of an ideal in terms of its Newton polygon.

Let S=K[x1,…,xn] be a standard graded polynomial ring over a field K. In this paper, we show that the lex-plus-powers ideal has the largest graded Betti numbers among all Borel-plus-powers monomial ideals with the same Hilbert function. In addition in the case of characteristic 0, by using this result, we prove the lex-plus-powers conjecture for graded ideals containing , where p is a prime number.  相似文献

We show how to lift any monomial ideal J in n variables to a saturated ideal J of the same codimension in n -+ t variables. We show that I has the same graded Betti numbers as J and we show how to obtain the matrices for the resolution of I. The cohornology of l is described. Making general choices for our lifting, we show that l is the ideal of a reduced union of linear varieties with singularities that are "as small as possible" given the cohomological constraints. The case where J is Artinian is the nicest. In the case of curves we obtain stick figures for l, and in the case of points we obtain certain k-configurations which we can describe in a very precise way.  相似文献

In analogy to the skeletons of a simplicial complex and their Stanley–Reisner ideals we introduce the skeletons of an arbitrary monomial ideal I ? S = K [x1, …, xn ]. This allows us to compute the depth of S /I in terms of its skeleton ideals. We apply these techniques to show that Stanley's conjecture on Stanley decompositions of S /I holds provided it holds whenever S /I is Cohen–Macaulay. We also discuss a conjecture of Soleyman Jahan and show that it suffices to prove his conjecture for monomial ideals with linear resolution (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We show that the number of elements generating a squarefree monomial ideal up to radical can always be bounded above in terms of the number of its minimal monomial generators and the maximum height of its minimal primes. Received: 12 December 2005  相似文献

The core of an ideal is the intersection of all its reductions. We describe the core of a zero-dimensional monomial ideal I as the largest monomial ideal contained in a general reduction of I. This provides a new interpretation of the core in the monomial case as well as an efficient algorithm for computing it. We relate the core to adjoints and first coefficient ideals, and in dimension two and three we give explicit formulas.  相似文献

We introduce the concept of t-spread monomials and t-spread strongly stable ideals. These concepts are a natural generalization of strongly stable and squarefree strongly stable ideals. For the study of this class of ideals we use the t-fold stretching operator. It is shown that t-spread strongly stable ideals are componentwise linear. Their height, their graded Betti numbers and their generic initial ideal are determined. We also consider the toric rings whose generators come from t-spread principal Borel ideals.  相似文献

The main result of this paper is that all antichains are finite in the poset of monomial ideals in a polynomial ring, ordered by inclusion. We present several corollaries of this result, both simpler proofs of results already in the literature and new results. One natural generalization to more abstract posets is shown to be false.

Linear resolutions of quadratic monomial ideals   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

We study the minimal free resolution of a quadratic monomial ideal in the case where the resolution is linear. First, we focus on the squarefree case, namely that of an edge ideal. We provide an explicit minimal free resolution under the assumption that the graph associated with the edge ideal satisfies specific combinatorial conditions. In addition, we construct a regular cellular structure on the resolution. Finally, we extend our results to non-squarefree ideals by means of polarization.  相似文献

In this paper we compute the graded Betti numbers of certain monomial ideals that are not stable. As a consequence we prove a conjecture, stated by G. Fatabbi, on the graded Betti numbers of two general fat points in

We study the normalization of a monomial ideal, and show how to compute its Hilbert function (using Ehrhart polynomials) if the ideal is zero dimensional. A positive lower bound for the second coefficient of the Hilbert polynomial is shown.
