We present a low energy-theory for non-linear transport in finite-size interacting single-wall carbon nanotubes. It is based on a microscopic model for the interacting pz electrons and successive bosonization. We consider weak coupling to the leads and derive equations of motion for the reduced density matrix. We focus on the case of large-diameter nanotubes where exchange effects can be neglected. In this situation the energy spectrum is highly degenerate. Due to the multiple degeneracy, diagonal as well as off-diagonal (coherences) elements of the density matrix contribute to the nonlinear transport. At low bias, a four-electron periodicity with a characteristic ratio between adjacent peaks is predicted. Our results are in quantitative agreement with recent experiments.  相似文献

We show that the defect density n, for a slow nonlinear power-law quench with a rate tau(-1) and an exponent alpha>0, which takes the system through a critical point characterized by correlation length and dynamical critical exponents nu and z, scales as n approximately tau(-alphanud/(alphaznu+1)) [n approximately (alphag((alpha-1)/alpha)/tau)(nud/(znu+1))] if the quench takes the system across the critical point at time t=0 [t=t(0) not = 0], where g is a nonuniversal constant and d is the system dimension. These scaling laws constitute the first theoretical results for defect production in nonlinear quenches across quantum critical points and reproduce their well-known counterpart for a linear quench (alpha=1) as a special case. We supplement our results with numerical studies of well-known models and suggest experiments to test our theory.  相似文献

In quantum optics noise plays an important role, since many of the nonlinear optical systems are quite sensitive to the subtle influences of weak random perturbations, being either classical of quantum mechanical in nature. We discuss the origin of quantum noise emerging from the reversible or the irreversible part of the dynamics and compare it with the properties of purely classical fluctuations. These general features are illustrated by a number of physical examples, such as the laser with loss or gain noise, nonlinear optical devices, and the phenomenon of quantum jumps. These processes have been chosen mainly to illustrate the different aspects of noise, but also because, to a large extent, they can be described in analytical terms.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the representability of an arbitrary quantum state ?? ?? ??(H) as the reduction of a vector state r ?? ??(H) of the extended system. We extend the operation of lifting from the set of states ?? n (H) to the set of generalized states ??(H). A method of constructing the Hilbert space H and the affine linear lifting ??(H) ?? ??(H) is studied. We study the relations between solitons of nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation and eigen-states of linear Schro¨dinger equation with some quantum wells. Many different non-degenerated solitons are re-derived from the eigen-states in the quantum wells. We show that the vector solitons for the coupled system with attractive interactions correspond to the identical eigen-states with the ones of the coupled systems with repulsive interactions. Although their energy eigenvalues seem to be different, they can be reduced to identical ones in the same quantum wells. The non-degenerated solitons for multi-component systems can be used to construct much abundant degenerated solitons in more components coupled cases.Meanwhile, we demonstrate that soliton solutions in nonlinear systems can also be used to solve the eigen-problems of quantum wells. As an example, we present the eigenvalue and eigen-state in a complicated quantum well for which the Hamiltonian belongs to the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian having parity–time symmetry. We further present the ground state and the first exited state in an asymmetric quantum double-well from asymmetric solitons. Based on these results, we expect that many nonlinear physical systems can be used to observe the quantum states evolution of quantum wells, such as a water wave tank, nonlinear fiber, Bose–Einstein condensate, and even plasma, although some of them are classical physical systems. These relations provide another way to understand the stability of solitons in nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation described systems, in contrast to the balance between dispersion and nonlinearity.  相似文献

We present the detailed study of the thermodynamics of vibrational modes in disordered elastic systems such as the Bragg glass phase of lattices pinned by quenched impurities. Our study and our results are valid within the (mean field) replica Gaussian variational method. We obtain an expression for the internal energy in the quantum regime as a function of the saddle point solution, which is then expanded in powers of at low temperature T. In the calculation of the specific heat Cv a non trivial cancellation of the term linear in T occurs, explicitly checked to second order in . The final result is Cv T3 at low temperatures in dimension three and two. The prefactor is controlled by the pinning length. This result is discussed in connection with other analytical or numerical studies.  相似文献

We show that in the regime in which feedback control is most effective - when measurements are relatively efficient, and feedback is relatively strong - then, in the absence of any sharp inhomogeneity in the noise, it is always best to measure in a basis that does not commute with the system density matrix than one that does. That is, it is optimal to make measurements that disturb the state one is attempting to stabilize.  相似文献

A software package for the numerical study of quantum dissipative systems in the field of photonics and quantum optics is developed in a cluster that includes the graphical user interface. Library of C++ classes for numerical simulation of the time evolution of the density matrix, the mean values of different operators (the mean number of photons, the correlation functions of various orders, quadratic mean fluctuations, etc.), the Poincare section, and various quasi-probability distribution functions including the Wigner function in phase space is created. As an application, the results of calculations for a nonlinear oscillator in a strict quantum regime are obtained.  相似文献

Instead of finding a small parameter for solving nonlinear problems through perturbation method, a new analytical method called He's variational iteration method (VIM) is introduced to be applied to solve nonlinear heat transfer equations in this Letter. In this research, variational iteration method is used to solve an unsteady nonlinear convective-radiative equation and a nonlinear convective-radiative-conduction equation containing two small parameters of ε1 and ε2 and evaluate the efficiency of straight fins. VIM can apply to the nonlinear equations with boundary or initial conditions defined in different points just with developing the correction functional using the extra parameters such as Cn, as used in this Letter.  相似文献

A novel implementation of transient nonlinear spectroscopy is presented that allows the study of the transient nonlinear polarization emitted from individual electronic transitions. Both the amplitude and the phase of the polarization are retrieved, permitting the implementation of multidimensional spectroscopy in the excitation pulse delays. The technique is shown to detect mutual coherent coupling in a group of individual, localized excitonic transitions.  相似文献

We show that the wave function of a coupled quantum system may factorize for certain coupling operators, resulting in wave functions and effective nonlinear Hamiltonians for the subsystems. Systems of coupled harmonic oscillators with discrete or continuous spectra are considered, where all degrees of freedom move in time-dependent coherent Glauber states.We present the general formalism and study two examples in detail. The problem of radiation damping results under drastic assumptions in exponentially damped harmonic motion, obeying a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In the second example, a different type of coupling is studied which yields inverse power law damping.  相似文献

Heat transfer processes in one-component (having one type of charged thermal carriers) media with nonlinear surface heat transfer are investigated. It is shown that three-valued (with respect to an externally imposed temperature difference) temperature distributions associated with hysteresis of the thermo-emf are established in the medium for certain conditions on the characteristics of the sample and the surface heat-transfer parameters. The predicted hysteresis effect is analyzed within the framework of the linear model of a thermoelectric medium. Measurements of the Kapitza conductance by the ac technique are reported for oriented gallium and copper single crystal discs. The data show convincing evidence that conduction electrons participate in the transmission of heat across the metal-He II interfaces for both metals. Measurements of the Kapitza conductance as a function of transverse and longitudinal fields and the influence of temperature, sample thickness and impurities allow a qualitative understanding of the total heat transfer across the sample.  相似文献

研究了以带有Dzyaloshinski-Mariya(DM)相互作用的两比特自旋体系为工质的量子纠缠Otto热机和量子Stirling热机.两种不同热机在各自的循环过程中,通过保持其他参量不变,只有DM相互作用发生改变,从而分析热机循环中DM相互作用与热传递、做功以及效率等热力学量之间的关系.研究结果表明:DM相互作用对两种热机的基本量子热力学量都具有重要的影响,但量子Stirling热机由于回热器的使用,其循环效率会大于量子Otto纠缠热机的效率,甚至会超过Carnot效率;得到了量子Otto纠缠热机和量子Stirling热机做正功的条件.因此,在这两个纠缠体系中,热力学第二定律都依然成立.  相似文献

热机性能的优化是热力学领域的一个重要问题,而工质与热源之间的传热过程是热机工作时产生不可逆的主要来源.本文在引入功率增益和效率增益两个重要参数的基础上,基于一个简化的Curzon-Ahlborn热机模型并利用合比分比原理,给出了线性与非线性传热过程的热机在任意功率输出时的效率表达式,结合数值计算详细讨论了热机在任意功率输出时的特性.研究表明,参数ξ作为功率增益δP的函数存在两个分支:在第一分支上(不利情形),效率呈现出单调变化特征;在第二分支上(有利情形),效率随着的δP变化是非单调的且有最大值.随着传热指数的增加,热机的工作区域减小,这源于非线性传热过程包含热辐射所致.进一步发现功率-效率关系曲线存在权衡工作点,热机在该点附近工作能够实现最有效的热功转换.研究结果有助于深入理解具有不同传热过程热机的优化执行.  相似文献

A cycle model of an irreversible heat engine working with harmonic systems is established in this paper. Based on the equation of motion of an operator in the Heisenberg picture and semi-group approach, the first law of thermodynamics for a harmonic system and the time evolution of the system are obtained. The general expressions for several important parameters, such as the work, efficiency, power output, and rate of entropy production are derived. By means of numerical analysis, the optimally operating regions and the optimal values of performance parameters of the cycle are determined under the condition of maximum power output. At last, some special cases, such as high temperature limit and frictionless case, are dis-cussed in brief.  相似文献
