Bistable states in the precession dynamics of thin magnetic films with the stripe-domain structure have been investigated on the basis of a numerical solution of the equation of motion for magnetization. It has been found that weak additional perturbation due to chaotic and low-frequency harmonic oscillations of the magnetic field can substantially change the probability of the dynamical bistability regime and lead to the elimination of bistability establishing only one of the regimes.  相似文献

We study third harmonic generation in layered configuration when the fundamental exhibits bistable response. We consider two geometries, namely, a Fabry-Perot cavity with reflection coatings and a distributed feedback structure with alternate nonlinear layers. In both the cases for suitable choice of frequency, the power response at the fundamental frequency is bistable. We show that bistability of the fundamental leads to a multivalued character of the generated third harmonic in both the forward and backward directions. Moreover, we study frequency response in the case of the Fabry-Perot cavity and show that additional structures arise in the generated third harmonic due to frequency bistability of the fundamental. Our calculations suggest the possibility of an all optical switch at third harmonic frequency controlled by the parameters (like intensity, frequency) of the fundamental.  相似文献

The acoustic field of a bounded finite-amplitude beam is governed by competing mechanisms such as medium non-linearity, interference, and attenuation. An analytic determination of the distribution of sonic energy in the individual harmonic components is often not reliable; consequently an experimental mapping of those harmonic components may be more appropriate. An experimental method is presented here which involves a miniature hydrophone probe which has been frequency calibrated for each harmonic component using a light diffraction technique. Measurements (made across the sound field) of the acoustic amplitude of the first three harmonic components are presented.  相似文献

Our experiments with an erbium-doped fibre ring laser (CW, single transverse mode and multiaxial mode) with an intracavity LiNbO3 electro-optic modulator (EOM ) display the characteristic features of a nonlinear oscillator (e.g., harmonic and period-2 sub-harmonic resonances ) when the EOM driver voltage is modulated periodically. Harmonic resonance leads to period-1 bistability and hysteresis. Inside the period-2 sub-harmonic resonance region, the laser exhibits Feigenbaum sequence and generalized bistability.  相似文献

It is shown that the local field in metal spherical particles with a dielectric core in an external varying electric field has two maxima at two different frequencies. The second maximum becomes more important with an increment in the metal fraction. Due to the nonlinear dielectric function of the core, the composite of these inclusions may have two optically induced bistability domains at different frequencies. At rather high metal fraction, two bistability domains merge and form one entire bistability domain. The parameters of these domains are studied numerically. The paper focuses on the second bistability domain, which has not been discussed in the literature so far. This domain exists in a comparatively narrow frequency range and its onset fields are lower than those of the first bistability domain. The lowest bistability onset fields are obtained in the entire domain. This peculiarity of the optical induced bistability in the metal composite with small dielectric cores can be attractive for possible applications.  相似文献

共振线偏振光激发原子张量磁矩,本文理论研究在矢量磁场和射频场的共同作用下,张量磁矩进动的模型,求解刘维尔方程获得透射光时域完整解析解,包括直流、一次和二次谐波分量.研究发现:当进动的拉比频率Ω1/(22~(1/2))时,两谐波间的干涉效应使直流分量和一次谐波对称成分的单吸收峰劈裂成双峰,裂距((Ω~2+Ω~4-Ω~2-1)~(3/2))~(1/2),一次谐波反对称成分在共振处产生干涉条纹.研究结果显示,谐波间的干涉也可导致直流分量和二次谐波线宽仅为一次谐波线宽的38%,且存在磁场取向临界点,在不同的取向区间分别利用直流及两谐波共振信号辨析磁场变化,可获得最佳测磁灵敏度;同时还可通过共振时直流分量及两谐波对称成分振幅来确定磁场与激光极化方向的夹角,利用两谐波反对称成分相移的差值来确定待测磁场在垂直光极化方向投影与射频场方向的夹角,进而实现结构简单的张量磁矩进动型矢量磁力仪.这种磁力仪适合构成磁力仪阵列,可用于磁定位、水下磁异常源的检测和地磁导航等领域.  相似文献

A new type of stochastic resonance that arises between two precession modes under dynamic bistability conditions and is excited by an alternating magnetic field, including a harmonic signal and a white noise, has been studied using a numerical analysis of the uniform magnetization precession in a thin film. The spectrum of the steady-state dynamics of the system at stochastic resonance has been investigated, and its distinctive features have been revealed for the longitudinal and transverse orientations of the additional alternating field.  相似文献

The behavior of the optical bistability (OB) is investigated in an optical system which consists of a four-level atomic system with a microwave drive field and an optical cavity. It is found that the optical bistability can be accomplished by adjusting different physical parameters in both steady and transient process. Due to the existence of the microwave drive field, the optical bistability can be also obtained even under weak coherent coupling field condition. Since the intensity and phase of microwave drive field can be conveniently modulated, this optical system provides a new experimental method to test the optical bistability theory.  相似文献

The special features of precessional motion under ferromagnetic resonance conditions with perpen-dicular magnetization of the film are investigated on the basis of a numerical solution of the equations of motion of magnetization in a (111) type iron garnet film. Several nonlinear magnetization precession regimes exist for fixed values of the crystallographic and induced anisotropies. Depending on the value of the magnetizing field and the amplitude of the microwave field, precession occurs around the normal to the film with the third harmonic of the fundamental frequency making a small or large contribution to the nutation motion and with a small or large amplitude of the precession angle. Precession regimes around one of three symmetric directions different from the direction of the normal are possible. Narrow ranges of the static field, where dynamical bistability and regimes with a period which is a multiple of the period of the microwave field are realized, exist.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in a V-type three-level atomic system confined in a unidirectional ring cavity via incoherent pumping field. It is shown that the threshold of optical bistability can be controlled by the rate of an incoherent pumping field and by interference mechanism arising from the spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping field. We demonstrate that the optical bistability converts to optical multi-stability (OM) by the quantum interference mechanism.  相似文献

The steady state behavior of optical bistable system in a ring cavity with transverse field variations and inhomogeneousely broadened two-level atoms is investigated outside the rotating wave approximation (RWA). Analytical and numerical investigation is presented for different cases of transverse field variations with Lorentzian or Gaussian line widths. When both (transverse and inhomogeneous) features taken into account, the first harmonic output field component outside the RWA exhibits a one-way switching down processes (butterfly OB) or reversed (clockwise) OB behavior, depending on the atomic linewidth shape.  相似文献

We study the behavior of the optical bistability (OB) and multistability (OM) in a two-level pumped-probe atomic system by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We show that the optical bistability in a two-level atomic system can be controlled by adjusting the intensity of the pump field and the detuning between two fields. The average transient time of regular regimes corresponding to the dynamic bistability state is studied using analysis of uniform precession of magnetization of a thin magnetic film. The possibility of controlling the transient process parameter by an additional ac magnetic field in the form of a harmonic of noise signal is established. A new type of stochastic resonance is detected, which corresponds to the probability of high-amplitude precession and is manifested during a short noise action.  相似文献

An injected microchip laser is theoretically studied, with the use of two models: in the first model, which is traditional, the field is represented by a single frequency component in the slowly-varying envelope approximation. In the second model, referred to as the Fabry-Perot model, two field components are considered which are respectively centered around the frequency of an eigenmode of the injected laser and the frequency of the injected field. Computation of locking ranges, bistability do mains are performed and the results compared. They show not only an improved precision of the second model but also a necessity to use it to describe some effects such as the bistable domains in the limits of the locking domains. In this paper we present results on ZnSe and ZnTe optically bistable elements in connection with electrooptic effects. The behaviour of optical hysteresis under an applied electric field is studied and the electrical characteristics under illumination with monochromatic laser radiation are investigated. Influences of optical bistability on the photocurrent are measured and an attempt is made to explain the unusual behaviour of the current with respect to the absorbed amount of light, namely a switching down in photocurrent when the absorptive switching takes place. Towards this aim we report here for the first time on spatially resolved measurements of photoconductivity in ZnSe to investigate the influence of Schottky contacts on photothermal electrooptic bistability. Furthermore, we report also to our knowledge for the first time on the influence of the 3D-Stank effect on optical bistability.  相似文献

We study theoretically the effect of truncating the nonlinear restoring force (exp(F)-1=?n=1Fn/n!\exp (\Phi)-1={\sum}_{n=1}^{\infty}\Phi^{n}/n!) in the bistability pattern of the periodically driven, damped one-degree-of-freedom Toda oscillator that originally exhibits soft-spring bistability with counterclockwise hysteresis cycle. We observe that if the truncation is made third order, the harmonic bistability changes to hard-spring type with a clockwise hysteresis cycle. In contrast, for the fourth-order truncation, the bistability again becomes soft-spring type, overriding the effect of third-order nonlinearity. Furthermore, each higher odd-order truncation attempts to introduce hard-spring nature while each even-order truncation turns to soft-spring type of bistability. Overall, the hard-spring effect of every odd-order nonlinear term is weaker in comparison to the soft-spring effect of the next even-order nonlinear term. As a consequence, higher-order approximations ultimately converge to the soft-spring nature. Similar approximate analysis of Toda lattice has in recent past revealed remarkably similar flip-flop pattern between stochasticity (chaotic behaviour) and regularity (integrability).  相似文献

We study the optical bistability (OB) in photonic multilayers doped by graphene sheets, stacking two Bragg reflectors with a defect layer between the reflectors. OB stems from the nonlinear effect of graphene, so the local field of defect mode (DM) could enhance the nonlinearity and reduce the thresholds of bistability. The structure achieves the tunability of bistability due to that the DM frequency and transmittance could be modulated by the chemical potential. Bistability thresholds and interval of the two stable states could be remarkably reduced by decreasing the chemical potential. A lager Bragg periodic number could increase the localizing of field, but the graphene loss may decrease the intensity of transmission light. We have concluded an appropriate periodic number to achieve OB. The study suggests that the tunable bistability of the structure could be used for all-optical switches in optical communication systems.  相似文献

We present numerical studies of optical bistability which admit variations in both space and time in the governing c-number equations. We justify mean field theory for both the steady state and time dependent regimes for low enough cavity transmissivity T: but for T ? 0.2 mean field theory is scarcely applicable. Higher harmonic fields are important at low T (high reflexion). As expected the steady state hysterisis behaviour at low T is considerably modified in the time dependent regime. Transistor action at high T ~ 0.9 is described. In general the numerical results show good qualitative agreement with the experiment of Gibbs et al.  相似文献

We discuss the influences of two different types of mechanisms of quantum coherence on optical bistability in a semiconductor quantum well structure.In the first mechanism,only quantum coherence induced by the resonant coupling of a strong control laser is considered.In the second mechanism,the decay coherence is taken into account under the condition where the control field is weak.In two different cases,optical bistability can be obtained through choosing appropriate physical parameters.Our studies show quantum coherence makes the optical nonlinear effect of the system become stronger,which takes an important role in the process of generating optical bistability.A semiconductor quantum well with flexibility and easy integration in design could potentially be exploited in real solid-state devices.  相似文献
