The aim of this paper is to prove a Mahler measure formula of a four-variable Laurent polynomial whose zero locus defines a Calabi–Yau threefold. We show that its Mahler measure is a rational linear combination of a special \(L\)-value of the normalized newform in \(S_4(\Gamma _0(8))\) and a Riemann zeta value. This is equivalent to a new formula for a \(_6F_5\)-hypergeometric series evaluated at 1. 相似文献

The odd–even invariant for graphs is the graphic version of the odd–even invariant for oriented matroids. Here, simple properties of this invariant are verified, and for certain graphs, including chordal graphs and complete bipartite graphs, its value is determined. The odd–even chromatic polynomial is introduced, its coefficients are briefly studied, and it is shown that the absolute value of this polynomial at −1 equals the odd–even invariant, in analogy with the usual chromatic polynomial and the number of acyclic orientations. 相似文献

Let ${\mathcal{D}}$ be the boundary operator defined by Atiyah, Patodi and Singer, acting on smooth even forms of a compact orientable Riemannian manifold M. In continuation of our previous study, we deal with the problem of computing explicitly the ?? invariant ???= ??(M) for any orientable compact flat manifold M. After giving an explicit expression for ??(s) in the case of cyclic holonomy group, we obtain a combinatorial formula that reduces the computation to the cyclic case. We illustrate the method by determining ??(0) for several infinite families, some of them having non-abelian holonomy groups. For cyclic groups of odd prime order p??? 7, ??(s) can be expressed as a multiple of L ??(s), an L-function associated to a quadratic character mod p, while ??(0) is a (non-zero) integral multiple of the class number h ?p of the number field ${\mathbb Q(\sqrt {-p})}$ . In the case of metacyclic groups of odd order pq, with p, q primes, we show that ??(0) is a rational multiple of h ?p . 相似文献

We give explicit formulas and algorithms for the computation of the Thurston–Bennequin invariant of a nullhomologous Legendrian knot on a page of a contact open book and on Heegaard surfaces in convex position. In this paper we consider the localization problem of compact invariant sets of the system describing the laser–plasma interaction. We establish that this system has an ellipsoidal localization for simple restrictions imposed on its parameters. Then we improve this localization by applying other localizing functions. In addition, we give sufficient conditions under which the origin is the unique compact invariant set. 相似文献

Continuing the work started in [Å-I] and [Å-II], we prove the relationship between the Århus integral and the invariant (henceforth called LMO) defined by T.Q.T. Le, J. Murakami and T. Ohtsuki in [LMO]. The basic reason for the relationship is that both constructions afford an interpretation as integrated holonomies. In the case of the Århus integral, this interpretation was the basis for everything we did in [Å-I] and [Å-II]. The main tool we used was formal Gaussian integration. For the case of the LMO invariant, we develop an interpretation of a key ingredient, the map jm, as formal negative dimensional integration. The relation between the two constructions is then an immediate corollary of the relationship between the two integration theories. 相似文献

The Dickson–Mùi algebra consists of all invariants in the mod p cohomology of an elementary abelian p-group under the general linear group. It is a module over the Steenrod algebra, A{\mathcal {A}} . We determine explicitly all the A{\mathcal {A}} -module homomorphisms between the (reduced) Dickson–Mùi algebras and all the A{\mathcal {A}} -module automorphisms of the (reduced) Dickson–Mùi algebras. The algebra of all A{\mathcal {A}} -module endomorphisms of the (reduced) Dickson–Mùi algebra is claimed to be isomorphic to a quotient of the polynomial algebra on one indeterminate. We prove that the reduced Dickson–Mùi algebra is atomic in the meaning that if an A{\mathcal {A}} -module endomorphism of the algebra is non-zero on the least positive degree generator, then it is an automorphism. This particularly shows that the reduced Dickson–Mùi algebra is an indecomposable A{\mathcal {A}} -module. The similar results also hold for the odd characteristic Dickson algebras. In particular, the odd characteristic reduced Dickson algebra is atomic and therefore indecomposable as a module over the Steenrod algebra. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate biomathtutor by (i) investigating the impact of biomathtutor on the mathematics skills competencies of bioscience undergraduates, and (ii) assessing students’ and tutors’ reactions to biomathtutor, identifying whether and how tutors might integrate it into their curricula and blend it with more traditional teaching practices to enhance their students’ learning experiences. A multi-method approach was adopted in which a quasi-experiment and non-experimental evaluation of biomathtutor were used to collect both quantitative and qualitative data, using mathematics tests, questionnaires, tutor interviews and student focus groups. Eighty-nine bioscience undergraduates and eight tutors participated in the study. A comparison of student performance in the quasi-experiment, which adopted a pre-test-intervention-post-test methodology, revealed no significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores for either the ‘control’ group (no intervention) or for any of the mathematics learning support interventions used, including biomathtutor. Despite the limitations of the quasi-experiment which are discussed, tutors’ and their students’ reactions towards biomathtutor were very positive, with both groups agreeing that biomathtutor represents a very well designed and useful learning resource that has a valuable role to play in supporting mathematics learning within bioscience curricula. Students felt that using biomathtutor had helped them acquire new biological and mathematical knowledge and had increased their competence and confidence in mathematics, with many students confirming that they would use biomathtutor again. Tutors felt it would be useful to embed biomathtutor, where possible, into their curricula, perhaps linking it to assessment strategies or integrating it with their current more traditional teaching practices. Students indicated that they too would like to see biomathtutor embedded within their curricula, primarily because it would motivate them to use the resource. Modifications to biomathtutor, which may need to be considered in light of any potential further development of this resource, are discussed. 相似文献

We investigate the influence of a DC electric field on the flow around and in the wake of a confined cylinder by means of numerical simulations. Our results indicate that even very small electrical perturbations have significant impact on the settling time of the lift coefficient. It is shown that the invariant set of an ϵ-contractive map f on a compact metric space X is the same as the set of periodic points of f. Furthermore, the set of periodic points of f is finite and, only assuming that X is locally compact, there is at most one periodic point in each component X. The theorems are applied to prove a known fixed-point theorem, a result concerning inverse limits, a result about periodic points of compositions, and a result showing that ϵ-contractive maps on continua are really contraction maps with a change in metric. It is shown that all our results hold for locally contractive maps on compact metric spaces. 相似文献
