Conjectures and problems on Bochner-Riesz means

The aim of this paper is to state some conjectures and problems on Bochner-Riesz means in multiple Fourier series and integrals. The progress on these conjectures and problems are also mentioned.

Conjectures pertaining to repeated partitioning of a triangle

This note describes two conjectures pertaining to repeated partitioning of an arbitrary triangle. The first conjecture turns out to be true, and hence gives rise to a new, more general, conjecture that is also addressed in this article. Both conjectures can be explored in a dynamic geometry environment. The proofs to the conjectures addressed in this article require knowledge of high school Euclidean geometry.     

Arithmetical properties of hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers

In a recent paper, Byrnes et al. (2014) have developed some recurrence relations for the hypergeometric zeta functions. Moreover, the authors made two conjectures for arithmetical properties of the denominators of the reduced fraction of the hypergeometric Bernoulli numbers. In this paper, we prove these conjectures using some recurrence relations. Furthermore, we assert that the above properties hold for both Carlitz and Howard numbers.     

A note on the Nakai conjecture

The conjectures of Zariski-Lipman and of Nakai are still open in general in the class of rings essentially of finite type over a field of characteristic zero. However, they have long been known to be true in dimension one. Here we give counterexamples to both conjectures in the class of one-dimensional pseudo-geometric local domains that contain a field of characteristic zero. Likewise, in connection with a recent result of Traves on the Nakai conjecture, we also show that their hypothesis of finite generation of the integral closure cannot be removed even in the class of local domains containing a field of characteristic zero.

     

Operator-norm inequalities and interpolated trace inequalities

In this article, we investigate some operator-norm inequalities related to some conjectures posed by Hayajneh and Kittaneh that are related to questions of Bourin regarding a special type of inequalities referred to as subadditivity inequalities. While some inequalities are meant to answer these conjectures, other inequalities present reverse-type inequalities for these conjectures. Then, we present some new trace inequalities related to Heinz means inequality and use these inequalities to prove some variants of the aforementioned conjectures.

The Distribution of the Summatory Function of the Mobius Function

The summatory function of the Möbius function is denotedM(x). In this article we deduce conditional results concerningM(x) assuming the Riemann hypothesis and a conjecture of Gonekand Hejhal on the negative moments of the Riemann zeta function.Assuming these conjectures, we show that M(x), when appropriatelynormalized, possesses a limiting distribution, and also thata strong form of the weak Mertens conjecture is true. Difference equations in combinatorics,number theory,and orthogonal polynomials

In this paper we give an overview of some recent developments in the asymptotics of difference equations. Applications to combinatorics and orthogonal polynomials are briefly indicated. Some conjectures and open problems are presented     

Combinatorial proofs and generalizations of conjectures related to Euler’s partition theorem

In a recent work, Andrews gave analytic proofs of two conjectures concerning some variations of two combinatorial identities between partitions of a positive integer into odd parts and partitions into distinct parts discovered by Beck. Subsequently, using the same method as Andrews, Chern presented the analytic proof of another Beck’s conjecture relating the gap-free partitions and distinct partitions with odd length. However, the combinatorial interpretations of these conjectures are still unclear and required. In this paper, motivated by Glaisher’s bijection, we give the combinatorial proofs of these three conjectures directly or by proving more generalized results.

Sums of Two Exact Powers

An asymptotic formula is obtained for the number of representations of an element of a finite field as a weighted sum of two prescribed powers of primitive elements. This generalises previous work on sums of primitive elements, including that relating to some conjectures of Golomb.     

Invariant holomorphic extension in several complex variables Dedicated to Professor Sheng GONG on the occasion of his 75th birthday

Two fundamental problems on the invariant holomorphic extensions have been posed, which are naturally arose from our solution of the extended future tube conjecture and closely and deeply related to the general theory of Stein manifolds due to Cartan-Serre. In this paper, the relationship is presented between the two problems, the motivation of considering the problems, and the methods to approach the problems. We have also posed some questions and conjectures related to this two problems.     

Some limit theorems for a Dirichlet series related to the Euler function

Using some conjectures on the mean-value of generalized numbers, limit theorems in the sense of the weak convergence of probability measures for the Dirichlet series related to the Euler function are proved. On Ext-indices of ring extensions

In this paper, we investigate the finiteness of Ext-indices for certain ring extensions. In this direction, we introduce some conjectures and discuss the relationships among them. We also prove these conjectures in some special cases. Furthermore, we prove that the trivial extension of an Artinian local ring by its residue class field is always of finite Ext-index, and prove a generalization of the Auslander-Reiten conjecture for this type of ring.     

The loci of abelian varieties with points of high multiplicity on the theta divisor

We study the loci of principally polarized abelian varieties with points of high multiplicity on the theta divisor. Using the heat equation and degeneration techniques, we relate these loci and their closures to each other, as well as to the singular set of the universal theta divisor. We obtain bounds on the dimensions of these loci and relations among their dimensions, and make further conjectures about their structure. The diffraction in a class of unbounded domains connected through a hole

In this paper, the unique solvability, Fredholm property, and the principle of limiting absorption are proved for a boundary value problem for the system of Maxwell's equations in a semi‐infinite rectangular cylinder coupled with a layer by an aperture of arbitrary shape. Conditions at infinity are taken in the form of the Sveshnikov–Werner partial radiation conditions. The method of solution employs Green's functions of the partial domains and reduction to vector pseudodifferential equations considered in appropriate vectorial Sobolev spaces. Singularities of Green's functions are separated both in the domain and on its boundary. The smoothness of solutions is established. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

New conjectures on perfect matchings in cubic graphs

We propose three new conjectures on perfect matchings in cubic graphs. The weakest conjecture is implied by a well-known conjecture of Berge and Fulkerson. The other two conjectures are a strengthening of the first one. All conjectures are trivially verified for 3-edge-colorable cubic graphs and by computer for all snarks of order at most 34.
