A quantum modeling of the CO adsorption on illuminated anatase TiO2 (0 0 1) is presented. The calculated adsorption energy and geometries of illuminated case are compared with the ground state case. The calculations were achieved by using DFT formalism and the BH and HLYP. Upon photoexcitation, an electron-hole pair is generated. Comparing of natural population in the ground state and the exited state, shows that an electron is trapped in a Ti4+ ion and a hole is localized in an oxygen ion. The photoelectron helps generation of a CO2 molecule on the TiO2 surface. As shown by optimization of these systems, the CO molecule adsorbed vertically on the TiO2 (0 0 1) surface in the ground state case while the CO molecule made an angle of 134.3° to this surface at the excited state case. Based on the here used model the obtained adsorption energy was 0.36 eV which is in excellent agreement with the reported experimental value. In the present work the C-O stretch IR frequencies are calculated which are 1366.53 and 1423.16 cm−1. These results are in good agreement with the earlier reported works for the surface carbonaceous compounds, and oxygenated carbon species.  相似文献

The adsorption of CO on Au(3 1 0) and Au(3 2 1) was studied using a combination of thermal desorption spectroscopy and high resolution core level photoemission spectroscopy. These vicinal Au surfaces both have 6-fold coordinated atoms at the step edges but have a different terrace structure. The CO adsorption behavior was found to be very similar for both surfaces. Three different desorption peaks due to chemisorbed CO were identified, which desorb around 100 K(α), 120 K(β) and 180 K(γ), respectively. The C1s and O1s spectra of the chemisorbed CO show a complex shake-up structure. Our experimental results indicate that CO only adsorbs on the step atoms. The different desorption peaks are explained by substrate-mediated long-range interactions between the adsorbates. Comparison with literature results shows that the CO adsorption energy is not only dependent on the coordination number of the Au atoms, but that the exact geometrical structure of the surface also plays a role.  相似文献

Stoichiometric and highly-defective TiO2(1 1 0) surfaces (called as yellow and blue, respectively) were exposed to Mo(CO)6 vapours in UHV and in a reactive O2 atmosphere. In the case of yellow-TiO2, an O2 reactive atmosphere was necessary to obtain the Mo(CO)6 decomposition at 450 °C with deposition of MoOx nanostructures where, according to core level photoemission data, the Mo+4 state is predominant. In the case of blue-TiO2 it was possible to obtain Mo deposition both in UHV and in an O2 atmosphere. A high dose of Mo(CO)6 in UHV on blue-TiO2 allowed the deposition of a thick metallic Mo layer. An air treatment of this sample at 580 °C led to the elimination of Mo as MoO3 and to the formation of a transformed layer of stoichiometry of Ti(1−x)MoxO2 (where x is close to 0.1) which, according to photoelectron diffraction data, can be described as a substitutional near-surface alloy, where Mo+4 ions are embedded into the titania lattice. This embedding procedure results in a stabilization of the Mo+4 ions, which are capable to survive to air exposure for a rather long period of time. After exposure of the blue-TiO2(1 1 0) substrate to Mo(CO)6 vapours at 450 °C in an O2 atmosphere it was possible to obtain a MoO2 epitaxial ultrathin layer, whose photoelectron diffraction data demonstrate that is pseudomorphic to the substrate.  相似文献

The formula for surface energy was modified in accordance with the slab model of molecular dynamics (MDs) simulations, and MD simulations were performed to investigate the relaxed structure and surface energy of perfect and pit rutile TiO2(1 1 0). Simulation results indicate that the slab with a surface more than four layers away from the fixed layer expresses well the surface characteristics of rutile TiO2 (1 1 0) surface; and the surface energy of perfect rutile TiO2 (1 1 0) surface converges to 1.801±0.001 J m−2. The study on perfect and pit slab models proves the effectiveness of the modified formula for surface energy. Moreover, the surface energy of pit surface is higher than that of perfect surface and exhibits an upper-concave parabolic increase and a step-like increase with increasing the number of units deleted along [0 0 1] and [1 1 0], respectively. Therefore, in order to obtain a higher surface energy, the direction along which atoms are cut out should be chosen in accordance with the pit sizes: [] direction for a small pit size and [0 0 1] direction for a big pit size; or alternatively the odd units of atoms along [1 1 0] direction are removed.  相似文献

The adsorption, photoreduction and chemical activity of oxygen molecules on the (1 0 0) anatase surface have been investigated here together with the effects that surface oxygen vacancies (VO) can have on these O2-related processes. We use an original approach by treating molecules on the TiO2 surface like surface defects in the same framework successfully used for defects in semiconductors. The achieved results: (i) give the first theoretical evidence of an acceptor behaviour of an adsorbed O2 molecule, which is at the origin of its photoreduction; (ii) show that the VO donor character is strongly affected by the interaction with O2; and (iii) suggest that the release of radicals as well as the formation of O2-related radicals may be favoured by photogenerated electrons in presence of surface VO’s.  相似文献

The adsorption and decomposition of molybdenum hexacarbonyl on (1 1 0) TiO2 surfaces were studied using both core levels and valence band photoemission spectroscopies. It was found that after an adsorption at 140 K, when going back to room temperature, only a small part of molybdenum compounds, previously present at low temperature, remained on the TiO2 surface. This indicates that the desorption temperature on such a surface is lower than the decomposition one. The use of photon irradiation to decompose the hexacarbonyl molecule was also studied. It was shown that during such a decomposition molecular fragments were chemisorbed on the surface allowing a higher amount of metal to remain on the surface. It was also shown that it was possible to get rid of adsorbed subcarbonyl groups and to organize the metal atoms by thermal treatments at temperatures as low as 400 K, i.e. much lower than the one needed to obtain the same structures using physical vapour deposition (PVD). Moreover, due to lower used temperatures, this chemical way of deposition allows a better control of the interface than during PVD growth.  相似文献

The reaction of formamide over the (0 1 1) faceted TiO2(0 0 1) surface has been studied by Temperature Programmed Desorption (TPD) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Two main reactions were observed: dehydration to HCN and H2O and decomposition to NH3 and CO. The dehydration reaction was found to be three to four times larger than the decomposition at all coverages. Each of these reactions is found to occur in two temperature domains which are dependent upon surface coverage. The low temperature pathway (at about 400 K) is largely insensitive to surface coverage while the high temperature pathway (at about 500 K) shifts to lower temperatures with increasing surface coverage. These two temperature pathways may indicate two adsorption modes of formamide: molecular (via an η1(O) mode of adsorption) and dissociative (via an η2(O,N) mode of adsorption). C1s and N1s XPS scans indicated the presence of multiple species after formamide absorption at 300 K. These occurred at ca. 288.5 eV (-CONH-) and 285 eV (sp3/sp2 C) for the C1s and 400 eV-(NH2), 398 eV (-NH) and 396 eV (N) for the N1s and result from further reaction of formamide with the surface.  相似文献

Au-intermediate TiO2/Au/TiO2 (TAT) multilayer films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering onto glass substrates. Changes in the optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated with respect to the thickness of the Au interlayer. The observed optical and electrical properties were dependent on the thickness of the Au interlayer. The resistivity decreased to 3.3 × 10−4 Ω cm for TiO2 films with a 20 nm-thick Au interlayer and the optical transmittance was also influenced by the Au interlayer. Although optical transmittance deteriorated as Au thickness increased, TiO2 films with a 5 nm-thick Au interlayer showed a relatively high optical transmittance of 80% at a wavelength of 550 nm. In addition, since a TAT film with a 5 nm-thick Au interlayer showed a relatively high work function value, it is an alternative candidate for use as a transparent anode in OLEDs and flat panel displays.  相似文献

Au nanoparticles, which were photoreduced by a Nd:YAG laser in HAuCl4 solution containing TiO2 colloid and accompanied by the TiO2 particles, were deposited on the substrate surface. The film consisting of Au/TiO2 particles was characterized by the absorption spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The adhesion between the film and substrate was evaluated by using adhesive tape test. It was found that the presence of TiO2 dramatically enhanced the adhesion strength between the film and the substrate, as well as the deposition rate of film. The mechanism for the deposition of Au/TiO2 film was also discussed.  相似文献

There are many areas in the world where the ground water has been contaminated by arsenic. TiO2 is one of the most promising materials that can remove arsenic from groundwater supplies by the adsorption-based processes. The TiO2 surface is capable of photo-catalytic oxidation (PCO) changing the arsenite [As(III)] to arsenate [As(V)] which is more easily absorbed by the surface, increasing the efficiency of the process. In this paper, a density functional theory calculation has been performed to investigate the adsorption of As(III) on a perfect TiO2 anatase (1 0 1) surface. All the As(III) solution species such as H3AsO3, H2AsO3, HAsO32− and AsO33− are put onto the surface with many different possible attitudes to obtain the adsorption energy. Based on the adsorption energy and the concentration of H3AsO3, H2AsO3, HAsO32− and AsO33− in an aqueous solution, the bidentate binuclear (BB) adsorption configurations of H2AsO3 on the surface are more favorable at low As(III) concentrations, whereas BB form and monodentate mononuclear (MM) form may coexist at higher concentrations. By calculating H2AsO3 co-adsorption with water and oxygen, we can confirm the deep acceptor character of an adsorbed O2 molecule which implies that surface superoxide (or hydroperoxyl radical) plays an important role during the PCO process of As(III) on TiO2 surface.  相似文献

Transparent and conducting TiO2/Au/TiO2 (TAuT) films were deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering on polycarbonate substrates to investigate the effect of the Au interlayer on the optical, electrical, and structural properties of the films. In TAuT films, the Au interlayer thickness was kept at 5 nm. Although total thickness was maintained at 100 nm, the stack structure was varied as 50/5/45, 70/5/25, and 90/5/5 nm.In XRD pattern, the intermediate Au films were crystallized, while all TAuT films did not show any diffraction peaks for TiO2 films with regardless of stack structure. The optical and electrical properties were dependent on the stack structure of the films. The lowest sheet resistance of 23 Ω/□ and highest optical transmittance of 76% at 550 nm were obtained from TiO2 90 nm/Au 5 nm/TiO2 5 nm films. The work function was dependent on the film stack. The highest work function (4.8 eV) was observed with the TiO2 90 nm/Au 5 nm/TiO2 5 nm film stack. The TAuT film stack of TiO2 90 nm/Au 5 nm/TiO2 5 nm films is an optimized stack that may be an alternative candidate for transparent electrodes in flat panel displays.  相似文献

We have studied the adsorption structure of acetic anhydride on a TiO2(1 1 0) surface using XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), LEED (low energy electron diffraction) and HREELS (high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy) to determine the origins of the unique adsorption properties of carboxylic acids on a TiO2(1 1 0) surface. The C 1s XPS data indicated that the saturation carbon amount of adsorbed acetic anhydride was 12 ± 3% larger than that of the adsorbed acetic acid. LEED showed p(2 × 1) weak spots for the acetic anhydride adsorbed surface. The HREELS spectra revealed the dissociative adsorption of acetic anhydride. Based on these findings, we concluded that the neutralization of the bridging oxygen atoms associated with the dissociative adsorption is necessary for the stable adsorption of carboxylates on the 5-fold Ti sites.  相似文献

Since the development of Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy (STM) technique, considerable attention has been devoted to various molecules adsorbed on various surfaces. Also, a new concept emerged with molecules on surfaces considered as nano machines by themselves. In this context, a thorough knowledge of surfaces and adsorbed molecules at an atomic scale are thus particularly invaluable. The present work describes the first Density Functional Theory (DFT) study of adsorption of CO, CO2 and NO molecules on a BaTiO3 surface following a first preliminary calculation of O and O2 adsorption on the same surface. In the previously considered work, we found that a (0 0 1) surface with BaO termination is more stable than the one with TiO2-termination. Consequently, we extended our study to CO, CO2 and NO molecules adsorbed on a (0 0 1) surface with BaO termination. The present calculation was performed on a (1 × 1) cell with one monolayer of adsorbed molecules. Especially, a series of cases implying CO molecules adsorbed in various geometrical configurations has been examined. The corresponding adsorption energy varies in the range of −0.17 to −0.10 eV. The adsorption energy of a CO2 molecule directly located above an O surface atom (called Os) is of the order of −0.18 eV. The O-C distance length is then 1.24 Å and the O-C-O and O-C-Os angles are 134.0° and 113.0°, respectively. For NO adsorption, the most important induced structural changes are the followings: (i) the N-O bond is broken when a NO molecule is absorbed on a Ba-Os bridge site. In that case, N and O atoms are located above an O and a Ba surface atom, respectively, whereas the O-Ba-Os and N-Os-Ba angles are 106.5° and 63.0°, respectively. The N-O distance is as large as 2.58 Å and the adsorption energy is as much as −2.28 eV. (ii) In the second stable position, the NO molecule has its N atom adsorbed above an Os atom, the N-O axis being tilted toward the Ba atom. The N-Os-Ba angle is then 41.1° while the adsorption energy is only −0.10 eV. At last, the local densities of states around C, O as well as N atoms of the considered adsorbed molecules have also been discussed.  相似文献

The effect of K on the morphology of Au nanoparticles deposited on TiO2(1 1 0) surface is investigated by STM-STS and AES methods. For comparison, the enhanced concentration of oxygen defect sites generated by Ar+ bombardment was also studied. It was found that both the K additive and the oxygen defect sites induce a pronounced decrease in the average size of the Au nanoparticles evolved at 320 K. On the clean TiO2(1 1 0) the average size of Au particles is 4.3 nm at approximately monolayer coverage of gold, while in the presence of K or oxygen vacancies this value decreased to 2.5 nm. In spite of the reduced average diameter detected at room temperature, the mean size of the Au nanoparticles increased significantly from 2.5 nm up to 7 nm on the effect of annealing at 500-700 K for K precoverages of 0.3-1 ML. For the clean and the Ar+ pretreated TiO2(1 1 0) surfaces the mean size of the Au particles changed only slightly on the effect of the same thermal treatments.  相似文献

TiO2 and TiNxOy thin films grown by low pressure metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (LP-MOCVD) on top of Si(0 0 1) substrate were characterized by X-ray multiple diffraction. X-ray reflectivity analysis of TiO2[1 1 0] and TiNO[1 0 0] polycrystalline layers allowed to determine the growth rate (−80 Å/min) of TiO2 and (−40 Å/min) of TiNO films. X-ray multiple diffraction through the Renninger scans, i.e., ?-scans for (0 0 2)Si substrate primary reflection is used as a non-conventional method to obtain the substrate lattice parameter distortion due to the thin film conventional deposition, from where the information on film strain type is obtained.  相似文献

The adsorption process of silane (SiH4) on a SiGe(0 0 1) surface has been investigated by using infrared absorption spectroscopy in a multiple internal reflection geometry. We have observed that SiH4 dissociatively adsorbs on a SiGe(0 0 1) surface at room temperature to generate Si and Ge hydrides. The dissociation of Si- and Ge-hydride species is found to strongly depend on the Ge concentration of the SiGe crystal. At a low Ge concentration of 9%, Si monohydride (SiH) and dihydride (SiH2) are preferentially produced as compared to the higher Si hydride, SiH3. At higher Ge concentrations of 19%, 36%, on the other hand, monohydrides of SiH and GeH and trihyderide SiH3 are favorably generated at the initial stage of the adsorption. We interpret that when SiH4 adsorbs on the SiGe surface, hydrogen atoms released from the SiH4 molecule stick onto Ge or Si sites to produce Si or Ge monohydrides and the remaining fragments of -SiH3 adsorb both on Si and Ge sites. The SiH3 species is readily decomposed to lower hydrides of SiH and SiH2 by releasing H atoms at low Ge concentrations of 0% and 9%, while the decomposition is suppressed by Ge in cases of 19% and 36%.  相似文献

The interaction of CO with Au atoms adsorbed on terrace and low-coordinates sites (edge and corner) of the MgO(1 0 0) surface was studied using the density functional theory (DFT) in combination with embedded cluster models. Surface anionic (O2−) and neutral oxygen vacancy (Fs) sites were considered. In all the cases, the CO stretching frequencies are shifted with respect to free CO with values between −232 and −358 cm−1. In particular, the values for Au on Fs at edge and corner are shifted to higher stretching frequencies by 100 and 59 cm−1, respectively, with respect to the value on a perfect MgO(1 0 0) surface. This result is in agreement with recent scanning tunneling microscopy and infrared spectroscopy experiments where a corresponding shift of 70 cm−1 was observed by comparing the measurements on perfect and O-deficient MgO(1 0 0) surfaces. However, these results are different than expected because Au atoms on Fs centers are negatively charged and, therefore, according to the generally accepted scheme the CO frequency should be red-shifted with respect to the adsorption on anionic five-coordinated site where the Au atom is essentially neutral. The following picture emerges from the present results: the single occupied HOMO(α) of Au atom on Fs at low-coordinated sites consists in two lobes extended sideward the Au atom. For symmetry reasons, this MO overlaps efficiently with the 2π MO of CO. This bonding contribution to the Au-CO link is counteracted by a Pauli repulsion between the 5σ MO of CO and more internal orbitals (the HOMO-1(α) and the HOMO(β)) centered on Au. In consequence, CO is forced to vibrate against a region with a high electron density. This is the so-called “wall effect” which by itself contributes to higher CO frequency values.  相似文献

The direct and H-mediated dissociation of CO2 on Ni(2 1 1) were investigated at the level of density functional theory. Although formate (HCOO) formation via CO2 hydrogenation was widely reported for CO2 adsorption on metal surfaces, it is found that on Ni(2 1 1) HCOO dissociation into CHO and O is much difficult, while direct dissociation of adsorbed CO2 into CO and O is more favorable. It is also found that the degree of electron transfer from surface to adsorbed CO2 correlates with the elongation of C-O bond lengths and the reduction of the CO2 dissociation barrier.  相似文献

XPS and periodic DFT calculations have been used to investigate water sorption on the TiO2 rutile (1 1 0) face. Two sets of XPS spectra were collected on the TiO2 (1 1 0) single crystal clean and previously exposed to water: the first set with photoelectrons collected in a direction parallel to the normal to the surface; and the second set with the sample tilted by 70°, respectively. This tilting procedure promotes the signals from surface species and reveals that the first hydration layer is strongly coordinated to the surface and also that, despite the fact that the spectra were recorded under ultra-high vacuum, water molecules subsist in upper hydration layers. In addition, periodic DFT calculations were performed to investigate the water adsorption process to determine if molecular and/or dissociative adsorption takes place. The first step of the theoretical part was the optimisation of a dry surface model and then the investigation of water adsorption. The calculated molecular water adsorption energies are consistent with previously published experimental data and it appears that even though it is slightly less stable, the dissociative water sorption can also take place. This assumption was considered, in a second step, on a larger surface model where molecular and dissociated water molecules were adsorbed together with different ratio. It was found that, due to hydrogen bonding stabilisation, molecular and dissociated water molecules can coexist on the surface if the ratio of dissociated water molecules is less than ≈33%. These results are consistent with previous experimental works giving a 10-25% range.  相似文献

We attempt to correlate qualitatively the surface structure with the chemical activity for a metal surface, Cr(1 1 0), and one of its surface oxides, Cr2O3(0 0 0 1)/Cr(1 1 0). The kinetics and dynamics of CO2 adsorption have been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), Aug er electron spectroscopy (AES), and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), as well as adsorption probability measurements conducted for impact energies of Ei = 0.1-1.1 eV and adsorption temperatures of Ts = 92-135 K. The Cr(1 1 0) surface is characterized by a square shaped LEED pattern, contamination free Cr AES, and a single dominant TDS peak (binding energy Ed = 33.3 kJ/mol, first order pre-exponential 1 × 1013 s−1). The oxide exhibits a hexagonal shaped LEED pattern, Cr AES with an additional O-line, and two TDS peaks (Ed = 39.5 and 30.5 kJ/mol). The initial adsorption probability, S0, is independent of Ts for both systems and decreases exponentially from 0.69 to 0.22 for Cr(1 1 0) with increasing Ei, with S0 smaller by ∼0.15 for the surface oxide. The coverage dependence of the adsorption probability, S(Θ), at low Ei is approx. independent of coverage (Kisliuk-shape) and increases initially at large Ei with coverage (adsorbate-assisted adsorption). CO2 physisorbs on both systems and the adsorption is non-activated and precursor mediated. Monte Carlo simulations (MCS) have been used to parameterize the beam scattering data. The coverage dependence of Ed has been obtained by means of a Redhead analysis of the TDS curves.  相似文献
