We demonstrate phase conjugation and dynamic holography by degenerate four-wave mixing in a continuous-wave diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser for the first time. A phase-conjugate reflectivity of 1.4% is obtained with a 12 W diode power. The experimental results and the optimizing parameters, such as the cavity mirror reflectivities, are compared with results from a steady-state theoretical analysis. . The dependence of the reflectivity on the vapour density, the buffer gas pressure and the pump beams intensity was investigated. The influence of the strong linear absorption was taken into account in a theoretical model that led to a satisfactory interpretation of the experimental results. A maximum reflectivity of 46% was measured under optimized conditions. The effect was also studied through the high-lying bound states . The maximum measured reflectivity was as high as for the first excited state. The effect of the oscillator strength on the reflectivity was demonstrated experimentally and interpreted with the help of a simple theoretical model. Received: 11 June 1996  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate vector phase conjugation in Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber at 1.06m with nanosecond pulses using degenerate four-wave mixing with linearly-polarized pump beams of arbitrary strengths. The experimental results show that the phase conjugate wave produced by this method can correct depolarisation induced by a birefringent medium.  相似文献

We demonstrate self-starting additive-pulse mode locking of a diode-pumped Nd3+:YVO4 laser. Pulse durations of 2.7 ps are measured at a repetition frequency of 90.7 MHz and at an average output power of 1.1 W. This corresponds to a peak power of 4.5 kW. 2 , N2, and CO2. For CO2 additional experiments have been performed at reduced pressure and in a molecular beam. By delaying the probe pulse a periodic recovery of the DFWM signal is observed. The period of these transients can be assigned unambiguously to rotational Raman transitions of the ground state within the laser bandwidth. The decay of the transients yields the collisional dephasing of the Raman-induced polarization. At zero delay also optical-field-induced birefringence of electronic nature contributes to the signal. The different time scales of the Raman and electronic effects allow us to estimate their relative strength. Comparison between c-cut and a-cut Nd:YVO4 microchip lasers passively Q-switched with a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber is experimentally made. The lower emission cross section of the c-cut Nd:YVO4 crystal can enhance the passive Q-switching effect to produce a peak power 10 times higher than that obtained with the a-cut crystal. The experimental result further reveals that a c-cut Nd:YVO4 crystal is a very convenient material for short-pulse (sub-nanosecond) and high-peak-power (>10 kW) lasers. Phase-conjugated waves (PCW), via degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) with picosecond laser pulses having a FWHM of 80 ps have been obtained in sodium vapour on both sides of theD 2(32 S 1/232 P 3/2) transition at 589 nm. The maximum reflectivity of the PCW signals was 60%. The reflectivity of the PCW has been measured as a function of the temperature, the detuning and the pump and probe intensities. Because of the very strong nonlinear behaviour of theD 2 transition the appearance of the PCW is accompanied by strong self-focusing and defocusing of the beams, which give a rather complicated line-shape of the detuning curve of the PCW. By varying the delay between the beams, the lifetime of the transient volume grating has been, measured to be 7.4 ns. The results are in qualitative agreement with the theoretical model of Abrams and Lind.  相似文献

We report on new, simple and efficient multipass amplifiers using prisms or corner cubes to perform several passes in different planes of incidence. This scheme provides an optimised overlap between the signal passes and the pumped volume. We investigated our amplification geometry with Nd:YAG and Nd:YVO4 crystals: the use of a low-doped (0.3%) Nd:YVO4 crystal allowed better thermal behaviour and higher performance. We amplified a pulsed microlaser (110 mW of average power at 1064 nm) and obtained a diffraction-limited output beam with an average power of 5.7 W for 15 W of pump power and a small-signal gain of 56 dB in a six-pass configuration. We demonstrate a high-power nonlinear mirror (NLM) mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser with a periodically poled KTP (PPKTP). With a 10-mm-long PPKTP crystal, 5.6 W of average power with 20-ps of pulse duration was generated at 18-W of pump power. Compared with conventional type-II KTP crystal with the same length, the stability against the Q-switched mode-locking (QML) is significantly increased with PPKTP in NLM laser; and the pulse duration was also considerably reduced. We report the first application of degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) to combustion diagnostics in a methane-fuelled internal combustion research engine. Combustion-generated NO in the spark-ignited engine was detected using scanning narrowband DFWM in a modified forward folded BOXCARS geometry. The resulting spectra of the X2Π-A2Σ+(0,0) band at 226 nm display an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. Extension of the technique to different engine operating conditions and to time-resolved multiplex DFWM is discussed. Analysis of degenerate four-wave mixing spectra of NO in a CH4/N2/O2 flame   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
4 /N2/O2 flame to spectral simulations based on a two-level theory for stationary, saturable absorbers by Abrams et al. Temperatures determined from least-squares fits of simulations to experimental spectra in the A2Σ+?X2Π+(0,0) band are compared to temperatures obtained from OH absorption spectroscopy and a radiation-corrected thermocouple. We find that DFWM rotational temperatures derived from Q-branch spectra agree with thermocouple and are independent of pump laser intensity for low to moderate saturation (I≈Isat). However, the temperatures are systematically low and depend on pump intensity if the analysis neglects saturation effects. We demonstrate a method for obtaining an effective pump saturation intensity for use with the two-level model. This approach for analyzing saturated DFWM line intensities differs from previous work in that the use of the theory of Abrams et al. rather than a transition-dipole-moment power law allows treatment of a much wider range of saturation. Based on the observed signal-to-noise ratio an NO detection sensitivity of 25 ppm is projected, limited by a DFWM background interference specific to hydrocarbon flames. We present an experimental study of the self-pumped phase-conjugate-mirror (SPPCM) recording in a Bi12TiO20 sample due to the partial internal reflection of the pump beam from the rear face. SPPCM has been recorded under an external alternating electric field of a square-wave form with response time equal to 170 s at the pump beam intensity of 520 mW/cm2. The mechanism of the SPPCM formation is similar to that of photorefractive double-phase-conjugate mirrors. The most effective SPPCM is recorded at the much larger pump-beam-incident angle than it could be supposed from the typical angular dependence of the two-wave-mixing gain factor. Strong dependence of the gain distribution on the pump-beam-propagation angle is observed. It is found that the response time strongly depends on the preliminary history of the sample. We report two kinds of compact and efficient diode-end-pumped TEM00 lasers with output power >25 W at ≈50 W of incident pump power. One laser consists of a single 0.3 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystal in a V-type cavity, the other laser includes two 0.5 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystals in a linear cavity. Experimental results show that lowering Nd3+ concentration can be beneficial in extending the fracture-limited pump power but it also increases the sensitivity of the pump wavelength due to the overlapping efficiency. 2 H2), methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrous oxide (N2O) in a cell under equilibrium conditions and cooled in free jet expansions. For methane at room temperature the detection limit was 2×1012 molecules per cm3 and quantum state, enabling the detection of trace species with a spatial resolution of 1 mm2×30 mm. In an attempt to study transitions in the ν13 and 2ν23 combination bands of CO2 or N2O, it was not possible to observe any DFWM signal. Instead a surprisingly strong, backward- and forward-directed emission was found which could not be attributed to the DFWM process. The signal arising from this emission was more than 2 orders of magnitude stronger than the DFWM signals obtained for other molecules. The frequencies of the emitted radiation were found to correlate with the transitions ν13→ν1 and 2ν23→2ν2, respectively. Our investigations lead to the conclusion that the emission can be explained by stimulated Raman scattering, resonantly enhanced by transitions to the combination levels ν13 and 2ν23. The SPBS process was successfully achieved by the combination of the short-wavelength diode laser and the highly doped photorefractive BaTiO3:Co crystal. The spectral width of the diode laser is reduced to 7.2 pm because of the narrow spectral bandwidth of the gratings [with wave number of K=2k(2k gratings)] formed in the SPBS phase conjugator, compared with the transmission grating formed in the conventional cat conjugator, which was used previously. The SPBS phase conjugator was successfully used to suppress self-frequency scanning, and wavelength-stable oscillation of the SPBS phase-conjugator-coupled diode laser was achieved.
