Calculations of the stability of an axisymmetric vortex flow of viscous heat-conducting gas with volume energy supply are presented. The unperturbed axisymmetric vortex flow was found numerically using a quasi-cylindrical approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations under the assumption of constant peripheral-velocity circulation in the ambient co-current flow. The volume energy supply in the viscous vortex core was modeled by an additional source term in the energy equation. The stability characteristics of the viscous vortex flow in a longitudinal vortex with respect to both axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric three-dimensional waves traveling along the vortex axis and corresponding to both positive and negative values of the azimuthal wave number were found using the time-dependent formulation of the linear stability theory for compressible three-dimensional plane-parallel flows.  相似文献

The results of calculating the stability of a three-dimensional swirl flow of a viscous heat-conducting gas are presented. The stability characteristics are determined using the linear time-dependent theory of plane-parallel flow stability. The main undisturbed axisymmetric vortex flow was determined numerically using a quasi-cylindrical approximation for the complete set of Navier-Stokes equations. The circulation of the peripheral velocity in the cocurrent flow surrounding the viscous vortex core was assumed to be constant. In analyzing the stability, nonaxisymmetric perturbations in the shape of waves traveling along the vortex axis with both positive and negative wavenumbers were considered; in these two cases the perturbation rotation is either the same or opposite in sense to the rotation in the vortex core. Neutral stability curves are determined for various values of the swirling parameter and the cocurrent flow Mach number. Moscow. A time-dependent local elliptic vortex in a differential two-dimensional incompressible fluid flow is considered. Nonlinear oscillations of vortices of the cyclonic and anticyclonic types are described. It is found that the evolutionary tracks can be both closed and unclosed. The former correspond to the azimuthal oscillations of the principal axis and the latter to the complete rotational state of the elliptic vortex. Steady-state solutions are also obtained; they are represented by ellipses elongated or compressed along the flow. Small oscillations of the vortex equilibrium figures are investigated and a general dispersion relation for arbitrary perturbations is derived. The stability criterion is found.__________Translated from Izvestiya Rossiiskoi Academii Nauk, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 1, 2005, pp. 81–93. The axisymmetric flow of an incompressible fluid is considered. An exact solution of the Euler equations corresponding to the breakdown of a straight vortex filament of intensity 0 into a vortex filament of lesser intensity and a conical vortex surface is obtained. It is shown that beyond the breakdown point in the region bounded by the conical vortex surface reverse flows occur. An investigation of the problem with allowance for viscous effects at large Reynolds numbers makes it possible to establish a relation between the free parameters entering into the solution of the Euler equations. The results obtained are useful for investigating the problem of the breakdown of a swirled jet, whose solution has recently been receiving much attention [1, 2].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 47–52, November–December, 1989.  相似文献

Starting with the Navier-Stokes equation we use the Lyapunov-Schmidt method to investigate the nature of the loss of stability of Couette flow between cylinders as the Reynolds number passes through its critical value. We consider the rotation of the cylinders in opposite directions with the ratio of the angular velocities such that the role of the most dangerous disturbances passes over from rotationally symmetric to nonrotationally symmetric disturbances. Branching nonstationary secondary flows (autooscillations) are found in the form of azimuthal waves; the longitudinal wave number and the azimuthal wave number m are assumed given. The amplitude of autooscillations and the wave velocity are calculated for m = 1, and it is shown that depending on the value of both weak excitation of stable and strong excitation of unstable autooscillations are possible and the wave number for which the critical Reynolds number is a minimum corresponds to a stable wave regime in the supercritical region. The linear problem of the stability of the circular flow of a viscous fluid with respect to nonrotationally symmetric disturbances is discussed in [1–3]. Di Prima [1] solved the problem numerically by the Galerkin method when the gap is small and the cylinders rotate in the same direction. Di Prima's analysis is extended in [2] to cylinders rotating in opposite directions, and in [3] it is extended to gaps which are not small. The nonlinear stability problem is treated in [4], where for fixed = 3 and cylinders rotating in opposite directions the axisymmetric stationary secondary flow the Taylor vortex is calculated. The formation of azimuthal waves in the fluid between the cylinders was studied experimentally in detail by Coles [5].Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 2, pp. 68–75, March–April, 1976.  相似文献

The intensification of single vortices in convective flows swirled by the Coriolis force is studied numerically. The initial disturbances, specified against the background of a steady cell, are coaxial with the cell flow and have various swirl directions, intensities, and dimensions. It is shown that the vortices are intensified no matter whether the direction of disturbing vortex rotation is co- or counter-directional with the Coriolis force. If the disturbance intensity is small as compared with that of the convective-cell flow, the growth of the azimuthal velocity circulation in the perturbing vortices depends linearly on their initial circulation. For such vortices, the energy increase is proportional to the characteristic vortex radius to the power –5/3.Translated from Izvestiya Rossiiskoi Academii Nauk, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, 2004, pp. 62–68. This paper describes an experimental investigation of the flow past circular cylinders, with the mean flow perpendicular to the cylinder axis, at conditions that yield a strong three-dimensional behaviour. The experiments were carried out in the subcritical regime. Long cylinders with end plates were subjected to shear flow with a linear velocity profile in the spanwise direction generated by means of a curved gauze. It was concluded that spanwise cellular structures of vortex shedding emerged in the wake, more clearly for some boundary conditions than others. These structures are characterised by a portion of spanwise length, a cell, having constant shedding frequency over a time average, which implies that there were no vortex dislocations inside that cell during that time. These features were studied using flow visualisation and hot-film anemometry. Spectra of the local shedding frequency are shown, revealing the effect of the shear parameter (=0.02 and 0.04) and aspect ratio L/D (=20.6 and 8) on the stability and geometry of the cells at several Reynolds numbers in the range of 3.13×103Rem1.25×104.  相似文献

The results of a numerical investigation of the effect of thermal energy supply on a swirling viscous heat-conducting gas flow in a subsonic cocurrent stream are presented. The initial stage of development of the swirling flow in the neighborhood of the vortex axis with constant circulation in the outer flow region is considered for two different distributions of the streamwise velocity vector component which simulate a swirling jet-type flow and a wake flow with a streamwise velocity deficit. The effect of local volume energy supply in the neighborhood of the vortex axis, the circulation of the azimuthal velocity component, and the longitudinal pressure gradient in the inviscid stream on the development of the swirling flow and the process of breakdown of cocurrent vortex flows is investigated. The stability of an axisymmetric flow of viscous gas in a circular pipe, which models the Burgers vortex in the pipe axis neighborhood, is studied within the linear theory framework. Neutral curves for the most unstable disturbances are calculated. The influence of the characteristic Mach number on the flow stability is investigated. It is shown that for a given model velocity distribution the Mach number affects only the temperature and pressure profiles of the main undisturbed flow. In this case, for the disturbance types considered, as the Mach number increases, the critical Reynolds number corresponding to loss of stability decreases. Moscow. Using a quasi three-dimensional instantaneous measurement technique, which combines particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) with volume scanning, first quantitative experimental results of the unsteady and asymmetric interior region of vortex breakdown were obtained. The study was carried out in a low speed flow through a cylindrical tube. A vortex was generated by a set of guidevanes and subjected to an adverse pressure gradient causing its breakdown. By scanning a pulsed illuminated planar laser light sheet, a set of meridional and azimuthal cuts of the flow was obtained. With PTV the recorded particle paths in the cuts were processed in order to obtain the instantaneous two-dimensional velocity field, mean streamlines and vorticity distribution. Moreover, the three-dimensional shape of the appearing breakdown, visualized with fluorescent dye, was reconstructed from the cuts. The results revealed that the shape of the bubble nearly equals the streamsurface of the stagnation point. According to the conditions in the water tunnel a single tilted vortex ring at the open rear part of the bubble dominates the interior flow structure of the bubble as first noted by Sarpkaya (1971). The vortical flow is bulged over the bubble, restored and intensified at the lower end. The gathered data lead to the conclusion that the vortex axis remains parallel to the centerline.  相似文献

Linear global instability analysis has been performed in the wake of a low aspect ratio three-dimensional wing of elliptic cross section, constructed with appropriately scaled Eppler E387 airfoils. The flow field over the airfoil and in its wake has been computed by full three-dimensional direct numerical simulation at a chord Reynolds number of \(Re_{c}=1750\) and two angles of attack, \(\mathrm{{AoA}}=0^\circ \) and \(5^\circ \). Point-vortex methods have been employed to predict the inviscid counterpart of this flow. The spatial BiGlobal eigenvalue problem governing linear small-amplitude perturbations superposed upon the viscous three-dimensional wake has been solved at several axial locations, and results were used to initialize linear PSE-3D analyses without any simplifying assumptions regarding the form of the trailing vortex system, other than weak dependence of all flow quantities on the axial spatial direction. Two classes of linearly unstable perturbations were identified, namely stronger-amplified symmetric modes and weaker-amplified antisymmetric disturbances, both peaking at the vortex sheet which connects the trailing vortices. The amplitude functions of both classes of modes were documented, and their characteristics were compared with those delivered by local linear stability analysis in the wake near the symmetry plane and in the vicinity of the vortex core. While all linear instability analysis approaches employed have delivered qualitatively consistent predictions, only PSE-3D is free from assumptions regarding the underlying base flow and should thus be employed to obtain quantitative information on amplification rates and amplitude functions in this class of configurations.  相似文献

In this paper, we show the existence of new families of linear eigenmodes in vortices with axial jet. These modes are viscous in nature and concentrated in a ring around the vortex at the critical radial location r c  > 0 where ${m\Omega '_c + kW'_c=0}$ where ${\Omega_c'}$ and ${W_c'}$ are the radial derivative at r c of the angular and axial velocity of the vortex. Using a large Reynolds-number asymptotic approach for an arbitrary axisymmetrical vortex with axial flow, both the complex frequency and the spatial structure of the eigenmodes are obtained for any azimuthal and axial wave number. The asymptotic predictions are compared to numerical results for the q-vortex and a good agreement is demonstrated. We show that for sufficiently large Reynolds numbers, a necessary and sufficient condition of instability of viscous ring modes is that there exists a location r c where ${\Omega_c\Omega_c'[r_c\Omega_c'(2\Omega_c+r_c\Omega'_c)+(W_c')^2]<0}$ and ${W_c'\neq0}$ , which also corresponds to the condition of inviscid instability obtained by Leibovich and Stewartson (J Fluid Mech 126:335–356, 1983).  相似文献

Dynamic viscoelasticities and flow properties were measured for aqueous solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium salicylate (NaSal) to examine the effects of surfactant (C D) and salt (C S). The relaxation time λ of a single mode Maxwell model was obtained, and the relationship between λ and free NaSal concentration was discussed. The relation between λ and was applied to the classification of flow curves, which were obtained using a capillary rheometer. In the flow curves, a shear rate jump occurred at low shear rates for the solutions with low , while bending was seen at high shear rates for all the flow curves. On the other hand, vortex growth at the salient corner in the entrance region of the capillary was also investigated. Four different flow patterns were identified: Newtonian-like flow (A), steady vortex flow (B), periodically oscillated flow (C), and perfectly unstable flow (D). In the steady vortex of the flow pattern B, the vortex length increased with increasing shear rate. In the flow patterns C and D, white turbidity was observed. Furthermore, the relation between λ and was also applied to the discussion on the development of the vortex.  相似文献

This paper numerically investigates the effectiveness of the control of steady suction on a stationary circular cylinder with several isolated suction holes on the surface at a subcritical Reynolds number. The control effectiveness as a function of the azimuthal position, spanwise spacing and suction flow rate of the suction holes on the control of the aerodynamic forces on the cylinder and the suppression of alternate vortex shedding are taken into account. The study of the azimuthal location of the suction holes indicates that azimuthal angles of θ=90° and 270°, which are close to the separation point, provide the most substantial decreases in the aerodynamic forces. When restricted to the most effective azimuthal angle, a remarkable control effectiveness can be achieved when the axial spacing between two neighboring suction holes is less than a minimum value even under a small suction momentum coefficient. However, if the axial spacing exceeds the minimum spacing, the control effectiveness will not be saturated even under a very large suction momentum coefficient. Thus, the cause of the effective aerodynamic force control is suggested to be a result of obvious three-dimensional phenomenon in the near wake, which is characterized by the generation of a convergent flow between two neighboring suction hole sections and a stronger, larger three-dimensional vortex pair adjacent to the convergent flow. It has been suggested that this strongly three-dimensional flow pattern is induced by the strong interaction between two neighboring but counter-rotating three-dimensional vortices separately produced by two neighboring suction holes. Moreover, the effects of such three-dimensional flow patterns are investigated in detail based on variations in the flow field and sectional aerodynamic forces in different cross sections. Finally, the upper limit of the axial spacing between two neighboring suction holes to form such a three-dimensional flow pattern is suggested to be between 0.75 D and 1.5 D when the suction flow rate exceeds a certain value.  相似文献

It is shown that the core of a swirled helical flow can be described using a novel exact nonstationary solution of the hydrodynamic equations for a viscous incompressible fluid, which generalizes the rigid-body asymptotics for the Burgers and Sullivan vortices in the form of rigid-body rotation with a finite helicity. An estimate of the pressure fluctuations corresponding to this nonstationary vortex regime, which is proportional to the frequency of the swirled-jet core rotation as a rigid body and also depends on the parameters of the initial velocity field structure, is obtained. It is noted that this frequency may correspond to the frequency observed in the pressure fluctuation spectrum, which is almost proportional to the swirled flow rate in vortex acoustic emitters.  相似文献

A study is made of the periodic (in time) auto-oscillatory regime (cycle) of azimuthal wave type which branches from a stationary nonisothermal Couette flow between rotating cylinders. Yudovich's method [1, 2] is used. It is shown that the cycle is unique (up to a shift along the axis z of the cylinders and rotation through any angle) and stable against spatially periodic three-dimensional perturbations. The results are given of a numerical calculation of the first two terms in the expansion of the cycle in Lyapunov-Schmidt series. The torque acting on the surface of the inner cylinder is calculated.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 25–32, May–June, 1981.I thank V. I. In this study the flow around a winged-seed in auto-rotation is characterized using direct numerical simulations (DNS) at Reynolds number in the range 80–240, based on the descent speed and a characteristic chord length. In this range, the flow is approximately steady when observed from a reference frame fixed to the seed. For all cases, the flow structure consists of a wing tip vortex which describes a helical path, a vortex shed behind the nut of the seed and a stable leading edge vortex above the wing surface which merges with the tip vortex. With increasing Reynolds number, the leading edge vortex becomes more intense and gets closer to the wing surface. The simulation results also show the formation of a spanwise flow on the upper surface of the wing, moving fluid towards the wing tip in a region downstream and beneath the leading edge vortex. This spanwise flow is rather weak inside the core of the leading edge vortex, and the analysis of the streamlines show a very weak transport of vorticity along the vortex for the cases under consideration. The analysis of the flow suggests that the stabilization of the leading edge vortex is mainly due to non-inertial accelerations, although viscous effects may contribute, specially at lower Re. Furthermore, the leading edge vortex has been characterized by analysing the flow variables averaged along cross-sections of the vortex. While some quantities, like the spanwise velocity or the pressure inside the vortex, are rather insensitive to the threshold used to define the leading edge vortex, the same is not true for the circulation of the vortex or its averaged spanwise vorticity, due to the viscous nature of the vortex. Finally, it is observed that the spanwise vorticity scales with the angular rotation of the seed for the different Re.  相似文献

The parameters of an axisymmetric turbulent two-phase swirling flow of a viscous heat-conducting gas containing a liquid dispersed phase in the presence of water vapor condensation on the particles are calculated. For the dispersed phase, a model taking into account the variation of the vapor concentration and the particle size due to condensation or evaporation is proposed. The distributions of the parameters of the basic unperturbed flow obtained numerically are used in the numerical solution of the linear problem of hydrodynamic stability within the time-dependent formulation. The parameters of small-amplitude harmonic perturbations propagating along the vortex axis are investigated in the linear formulation. A significant effect of heat release in the gas due to water vapor condensation on the parameters of the neutral perturbations and the neutral-stability curves is detected.  相似文献
