Abstract

Flame atomic absorption spectrometry is applied to the analysis of trace metals in fish tissue after digestion of the sample with nitric acid in a decomposition vessel. The digested sample is analyzed directly using a discreet nebulization technique. Enhancement effects were observed for all elements studied. The method was applied to the analysis of copper, iron and zinc in several species of fish.  相似文献

A method for measuring trace concentration of Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb in plant materials was developed, optimized, validated and compared using reference standards and fresh samples. The method is based on rapid material digestion by radicals produced with laser-assisted pulsed UV (PUV) photolysis of aqueous solutions containing H2O2. Metals in the resulting solution were pre-concentrated as carbamates. Samples were analyzed with particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE). Combined PUV digestion and pre-concentration techniques resulted in enhanced detection levels of selected trace elements in foods and non-food commodities. The method was applied to measure trace elements in wastewater irrigated fruits, vegetables and crops.  相似文献

This study aimed to develop a precise and accurate method of sample preparation of Auricularia auricula for inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry-based trace element determination and to compare concentrations of seven trace elements (Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, Ni, Cr, Sr) in six A. auricula samples belonging to three varieties with two cultivation substrates. Five sample preparation procedures, microwave-assisted digestion, nitric acid digestion with hot plate heating, nitric acid and perchloric acid digestion with hot plate heating, nitric acid digestion with ash content, and aqua regia digestion with ash content, were compared. The performance of the procedures was determined based on the precision and accuracy of the results and the limits of detection of the elements. The best results, with limits of detection of 0.60–6.60?ng?·?mL?1 and recoveries for spiked samples between 93.80 and 105.00%, were found using nitric acid digestion with ash content. Six A. auricula samples were analyzed using the proposed procedure. Among the tested elements, the concentration of Fe was highest in all six A. auricula samples up to a maximum concentration of 284.83?µg?·?g?1. The concentrations of Mn, Cu, and Ni increased in mixed stands (basswood, birch, and mongolica) compared with pine sawdust cultivation.  相似文献

The feasibility of using two different microwave-based sample preparation methods was investigated to determine the total and water-soluble trace metal fraction in airborne particulate matter. The extraction techniques were then applied to urban particulate matter of different sizes in order to evaluate their bioavailability of associated trace metals. While a combination of HNO3-HF-H2O2 was used for the total trace metal fraction of particulate matter, water was employed for the microwave-assisted extraction of water-soluble trace metal fractions. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used for the analysis of trace elements. The experimental protocol for the microwave assisted digestion was established using two different SRMs (1648, urban particulate matter and 1649a, urban dust). In the case of water-soluble trace metal fraction, the quantities extracted from the SRMs were compared between ultrasonic and microwave-assisted extractions, and there was a good agreement between the two extraction methods. Blanks values and limits of detection (LODs) for total and water-soluble trace metal concentrations were determined for three different filter substrates (Teflon, Zeflour, and Quartz). Subsequently, the proposed digestion method was evaluated for its extraction efficiency with these filter substrates. Finally, the real-world application of the proposed microwave-based sample preparation methods was demonstrated by analyzing trace elements in airborne particulate samples collected from different outdoor environments in Singapore. The solubility of 11 trace elements detected in the particulate samples is quantified.  相似文献

Concentration of four trace elements (copper, zinc, iron, and selenium) was determined in colon tissue from twenty-three patients with colorectal cancer. The tissue samples were dried and dissolved using microwave-assisted digestion technique. The content of trace elements was determined using atomic absorption spectrometry. No significant differences between Zn levels in normal and cancerous tissues were observed. However, the levels of Cu, Fe, and Se were significantly higher in cancerous tissues than in the control samples. The results obtained sing microwave-assisted technique were compared to those obtained via alkaline digestion with tetramethylammonium hydroxide. Both techniques were used for the digestion of certified reference material of pork liver. Very good agreement with the certified values of Cu, Fe, and Zn in the reference material was achieved using alkaline digestion procedure. This technique seems to be an efficient alternative to decomposition of biological samples.  相似文献

Abstract

Since concentrations of trace elements in most natural waters seldom exceed the μg/L level, analysis of trace elements in natural waters by inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP) requires a preconcentration procedure. The elements Ag, Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sn, V, W, and Zn were separated and concentrated from 500 mL of water by coprecipitating them with sodium dibenzyldithiocarbamate (NaDBDTC) using nickel or silver as a carrier. The precipitated trace elements were collected on a membrance filter, redissolved from the filter with hot nitric and hydrochloric acids, and analyzed using ICP. Recoveries for all the trace elements except tungsten exceeded 80%. Coprecipitation of trace elements with NaDBDTC eliminated the use of difficult-to-inject organic solvents, and NaDBDTC coprecipitated a wider array of trace elements than ammoniumpyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC), another commonly used coprecipitate.  相似文献

The efficiency of oxidation in wet decomposition procedures for organic materials can be of great importance to the quality of the analytical data from various measurement techniques. A novel, microwave-assisted, high-temperature/high-pressure UV-TiO2 digestion procedure was developed for the accelerated decomposition of various biological samples. The technique is based on a closed, pressurized, microwave digestion apparatus (MW). UV irradiation is generated by immersed electrodeless Cd discharge lamp operated by the focused microwave field in the single polymer vessel. To enhance oxidation efficiency, a photocatalyst TiO2 was added to the microwave heated Teflon bomb. Measures of digestion completeness were provided by the appearance of carbon content and determination of trace and minor elements, enabling a comparison of different digestion procedures and sample types. Compared with other digestion systems, unusually low residual carbon contents were obtained. For the organic compounds and biological samples digested, the residual carbon content was 1-2%, corresponding to a decomposition efficiency of 98-99%. The potential of the MW-UV-TiO2 system was illustrated by the decomposition of four certified reference materials (serum, urine, milk, arsenobetaine solution) and subsequent determination of trace and minor elements. Recoveries between 92% and 107% were found.  相似文献

Three digestion procedures have been tested on lichen samples for application in the determination of major, minor and trace elements (Al, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb, V and Zn) in lichen samples collected in Aegean Region of Turkey by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). The acid mixture of concentrated HNO3, H2O2 and HF were used. The instrument was optimized using lichen matrix considering RF power, nebulizer pressure, auxiliary flow rate and pump rate. The accuracy of the overall analyses was first estimated by analysis of two certified reference materials. Good agreement between measured and reference values were found for almost all elements. As the second way of determining the accuracy, results obtained from independent analytical techniques (ICP-AES and instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA)) were compared for all elements by analyzing real samples. Correlation coefficients of two techniques for the elements ranged between 0.70 (Mg) and 0.96 (Fe). Among the three digestion systems, namely microwave, open vessel and acid bomb, microwave digestion system gave the best recovery results. The method detection limit (MDL) was computed using reagent blanks of microwave digestion system since it provides cleaner sample preparation. Detection limit is adequate for all elements to determine the elements in lichen samples. The precision was assessed from the replicate analyses of reagent blanks of microwave digestion system and was found to be less than 1.5% relative standard deviation (R.S.D.).  相似文献

Understanding the transport of trace elements through a coal-fired power plant requires reliable analytical methods for these elements in all the ingoing and outgoing mass streams. Coal and different kinds of ashes comprise the most abundant mass streams in such a plant. As a continuation of our previous work, we have optimised a digestion method for the AAS determination of heavy metals in coal samples. It has become evident that complete dissolution of metals in coal samples and accurate results in subsequent analysis can be obtained by means of applying pressurised digestion under microwave heating. The combination of HNO3 (conc.) and HF (conc.) in the volume ratio of 50?:?1 attacked the sample well enough, and good recoveries for all the metals studied were obtained. Surprisingly good results were obtained also when HNO3 alone was used as the digestion acid.  相似文献

The recovery of trace elements of ecotoxic importance has been studied on certified soil and sediment reference samples after pressurized digestions with HNO3, HNO3+HF and HNO3+HCl+HF mixtures, respectively. The acid digests have been analyzed by ICP-MS. The results indicate that digestion with nitric acid alone is satisfactory for the recovery of As, Cd, Co, Cu and Zn. Cr and Pb showed lower recoveries with HNO3 alone but addition of HF improved their extraction. With appropriate corrections, ICP-MS can be used for the routine analysis of soils and sediments. These digestion procedures, evaluated based on reference samples, have been used for the trace element characterization of soil samples from the German Environmental Specimen Bank.  相似文献

(Microwave digestion of plant material for trace element determination.) A digestion method utilizing a mixture of nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen peroxide in closed vessels with a microwave system was developed for the determination of trace elements in plant materials and was tested on NIST standard reference materials [Citrus Leaves (SRM 1572) and Pine Needles (SRM 1575)] for Al, As, Ba, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni, P, Pb, Rb, Sr and Zn. Analyses were done by d.c. plasma atomic emission spectrometry. The results showed high reproducibility and good agreement with the certified values. Rapid ashing and dissolution of plant material, reduced sources of contamination and the simplicity of the system make the microwave digestion system suitable for routine laboratory application.  相似文献

Abstract

Tissue samples were collected from ten healthy mature female wood bison (B. bison athabascae) for examination. Livers and kidneys were tested for toxic heavy metals and trace metals considered as essential nutrients for successful reproduction, while fat samples were analyzed for persistent chlorinated hydrocarbons. No elevated levels of toxic heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury) were found and essential trace elements (copper, manganese, selenium, zinc) were within the acceptable ranges established for healthy cattle. All fat samples tested contained trace levels of α-BHC (mean value, 23 ppb) and lindane (mean value, 3 ppb).  相似文献

By use of the high separation capability of capillary electrophoresis (CE) and ultrasensitive chemiluminescence (CL) detection, a CE-CL method was proposed for the ultrasensitive determination of trace cobalt in a single hair, which is potentially useful in construction of the fingerprint of trace elements in the hair collected from crime scenes. In this work, the CE experimental conditions, CL experimental conditions and the digestion methods for the analysis of a single hair sample for cobalt were investigated in detail. The relative limit of detection (LOD, 3σ) was 0.01 ng/mL, and the absolute LOD was 2.4 × 10− 16 g considering the sampling volume of 24 nL. Using a dry digestion method, the analytical results for certified reference hair samples by the proposed method were in good agreement with the certified values. Finally, this method was successfully used to detect trace cobalt in a single hair from three adults. It has potential applications in forensic analysis.  相似文献

To find the optimal way of the sample preparation of sponges for the determination of their elemental composition, three techniques of digestion were tested: acidic (mixtures of nitric, chloric, and hydrofluoric acids and hydrogen peroxide) upon heating in open vessels, autoclave-assisted at higher temperature and pressure, and decomposition in microwave ovens (MW). Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP MS), we determined the concentrations of 23 elements in sponges Baikalospongia bacillifera Dubowski, 1880. The accuracy checks have demonstrated a good agreement between the measured and assured values. The attained limits of detection ranged from 32 mg/kg (for Al after autoclave digestion) to 0.1–0.2 μg/kg (for Tl, open acidic with HClO4 and MW decomposition). The relative standard deviation varied from rather modest values (for Cu, Cs, Ba, autoclave decomposition; Se, open acidic HClO4-free; Zn, open acidic with HClO4) to 30% (Be, Tl, Pb, autoclave decomposition; Be, Cr, Ga, Pb, open HClO4-free acidic digestion), 40% (Cs, MW), and 60% (Se, open acidic with HClO4). Different ways of digestion showed good compatibility of the results for the elements under study, except for Li, Sr, and Se. For Cr and Co (open acidic with HClO4), Cr, Ni, and As (MW), the method appeared insufficiently sensitive.  相似文献

When high mineral loads in atmospheric particulate matter (PM) are present, particular attention should be paid to the selection of appropriate acidic digestion protocols for wet chemical analysis. We report on a comparative study of elemental recovery yields from five different pre-analytical acid digestion procedures for mineral-rich urban background PM10 samples collected in the city of Constantine (Northeastern Algeria). Five reference materials (NIST 1633b, UPM 1648, NAT-7, SO-2 and SO-4) were also digested according to the same protocols. The selected acidic digestion/extraction procedures are widely used for PM chemical analysis and comprise P1 (HNO3/HF/HCl), P2 (HCl/HNO3), P3 (HCl/H2O2/HNO3), P4 (HNO3/HF/HClO4) and P5 (HNO3/H2O2); the latter assisted with microwave digestion. Elemental recovery yields were compared for major and trace elements typically determined in PM for source apportionment analysis and the results evidenced large differences. For most elements, the bulk extraction procedures (requiring the use of HF) allowed a full elemental recovery, particularly for elements that are associated with aluminium silicate species and oxides that are resistant to mild acid attack. In contrast, in the extraction protocols without HF low recovery yields were obtained for elements such as Al, Ti, Zr, Sc and other aluminium silicate-related elements in PM10 samples with high mineral dust load. We highlight that the European standard digestion method EN-14902:2005 should be applied specifically for the metals for which this method was developed, but caution should be taken when the analysis of other elements in PM is required, especially in urban areas where road and vehicle wear dust is likely to be a major component of ambient PM. When using wet chemistry analysis for PM source apportionment studies, we strongly recommend HF bulk dissolution of samples to ensure the reliability of the geochemical information when coupled with an appropriate analytical tool.  相似文献

An analytical method for the quantification of toxic metals in face-powders is presented and discussed. Acid digestion with HNO3-H2O2 or HNO3-HCl was performed and compared with total digestion by HF. The digestion with HNO3-H2O2 was the most suitable for these purposes. Analyses were performed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), whose performances were compared by analyzing three different certified reference materials. The analysis of five commercial face-powders revealed the presence of all the considered metals in the range 0.06–8.0 µg/g. To simulate the bioaccessibility of metals in physiological conditions, a digestion with a simulated sweat solution was performed. In this case, the analysis of the same face-powder samples provided results below the limit of quantification, suggesting low bioaccessibility of the considered trace elements.  相似文献
