Nonlinear response and optical limiting in SrBi(2)Ta(2)O(9) thin films   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

SrBi(2)Ta(2)O(9) (SBT) thin films on quartz substrates were prepared by use of the pulsed-laser deposition technique. The nonlinear refractive indices, n(2) , of the SBT films were measured by use of z-scan techniques with picosecond pulses. Large negative nonlinear refractive indices of 3.84 and 3.58cm(2)/GW were obtained for the wavelengths 532 nm and 1.064mum , respectively. The two-photon absorption coefficient was determined to be 7.3 cm/GW for 532 nm. The limiting behavior of SBT thin film on a quartz substrate was investigated in an f/5 defocusing geometry by use of 38-ps-duration, 532-nm, 1.064mum laser excitation.  相似文献

We present a miniaturized Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) based on optical microelectromechanical system technology. The FTS is a Michelson interferometer with one scanning mirror. A new type of electrostatic comb drive actuator moves the mirror. We have measured a nonlinearity of the driving system of +/-0.5 mum for a displacement of 38.5 mum . A method is presented to correct the spectrum to get rid of the nonlinearity. The driving reproducibility is +/-25 nm. The measured resolution of the spectrometer after the phase correction is 6 nm at a wavelength of 633 nm.  相似文献

The first known demonstration of tunable terahertz-wave generation by difference-frequency generation of dual signal-wave quasi-phase-matched optical parametric oscillation was performed with periodically poled LiNbO(3) (PPLN) with a series of gratings. An organic ionic salt, 4-dimethylamino-N-methyl-4-stilbazolium-tosylate (DAST), was used as a nonlinear crystal. A compact terahertz-wave source resulted, and changing the temperature of the PPLN permitted the wavelength to be varied from 120 to 160 mum. The wavelength could be tuned from 100 to 700 mum by proper selection of combinations of periodically poled gratings.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical generation and detection of subpicosecond electrical pulses on coplanar transmission lines is demonstrated. The electrical pulses are generated by optical rectification of ultrashort optical pulses and detected by electro-optic sampling. Both processes are the result of a second-order nonlinear optical response that occurs in the same poled polymer medium. A bipolar temporal waveform with a FWHM duration of 180 fs for the positive lobe that was measured after a propagation distance of 125 mum was observed. Pulse broadening was minimized by careful attention to the device structure.  相似文献

We report a precise direct measurement of the Goos-H?nchen shift after one reflection off a dielectric interface coated with periodic metal stripes. The spatial displacement of the shift is determined by image analysis. A maximal absolute shift of 5.18 and 23.39 mum for TE and TM polarized light, respectively, is determined. This technique is simple to implement and can be used for a large range of incident angles.  相似文献

A new technique of dual-frequency Doppler-lidar measurement is investigated. This technique is based on the use of a coherently locked, tunable, dual-frequency laser source and is shown to accurately measure velocities as small as 26 mum/s. It is generated by exploiting the nonlinear dynamics of a semiconductor laser through a proper combination of optical injection and operating conditions.  相似文献

A fiber-optic polarimetric strain sensor of l(S)=10-cm sensing length with three-wavelength passive quadrature digital phase demodulation is investigated. The demodulation unit uses a superluminescent diode light source with narrow-band interference filters in front of the photodiodes and real-time processing of the interference intensities by an arctan-phase-stepping algorithm. Quasi-static strain sensing is performed during slow periodic compression of a composite reinforced plastic rod with a sensor glued to its surface. The measured displacement sensitivity of delta?/deltal=125 mrad/mum, with a resistive strain gauge as a reference, agrees well with the value of 119 mrad/mum previously determined by fringe-distance measurement [Bock et al., Pure Appl. Opt. 5, 125 (1996)]. Despite a coherence-limited fringe contrast of only a few percent, a linearity of the phase-strain characteristic of the order of 1% and a strain resolution of 2.5muepsilon are demonstrated.  相似文献

We present an experimental technique capable of single-shot recording of an ultrashort laser pulse sonogram by use of two-photon absorption in a conventional silicon CCD camera. The quadratic spectral phase, introduced into a 100-fs pulse by a grating stretcher, was measured and found to be in good agreement with the analytically calculated value. The nonlinear response of silicon allows sonogram characterization in a wavelength range from 1 to 2 mum .  相似文献

The possibility of all optical control of light deflection and displacement through a planar nonlinear waveguide has been discussed in this article. In this scheme a strong command beam controls the propagation characteristics of a weak signal beam in a nonlinear waveguide. Employing variational approach, we have established a set of coupled nonlinear equations for the displacement of the center of gravity, beam size, deflection angle, and beam divergence of the signal beam. These equations have been solved numerically to confirm the possibility of all optical control of deflection and displacement of a signal beam by a command beam.  相似文献

A theory for the nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic waves in a semibounded periodic dielectric structure is developed using the example of second-harmonic generation. One of the layers forming a period is assumed to have nonlinear polarization. The theory is an improved perturbation theory based on the Green theorem. The phase-matching conditions for interacting waves are shown to correspond to dimensional resonances for individual layers or for the structure period. The interaction efficiency is maximum at passband edges for the case of resonance for the entire period. For this resonance, the phase-matching conditions are met for a frequency spectrum rather than for a single frequency. This feature makes it possible to convert spectra from one frequency range to another.  相似文献

We generated pulsed quadrature-squeezed light by cross-phase modulation in single-crystal hexagonal CdSe at wavelengths of 1.4 to 1.55mum . We measured 0.4-dB squeezing (0.7 dB is inferred at the crystal) with 100-fs laser pulses. The wavelength and the intensity dependence, as well as variations in the local oscillator configuration, are examined. At higher intensities squeezing is shown to deteriorate owing to competing nonlinear processes.  相似文献

We report high-resolution saturated-absorption spectra recorded by use of a few microwatts of radiation generated in a single pass by difference-frequency mixing. These results were obtained without the use of buildup cavities for the nonlinear mixing or for the saturation spectroscopy. We show high-quality saturated-absorption signals for the fundamental rovibrational band of CO(2) near 4.3 mum. Convenient sources and frequency-conversion devices open new possibilities for sub-Doppler spectroscopy in the infrared.  相似文献

The thermal contribution to the nonlinear refractive index of air at 1.064mum was measured with a high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity and a 500-mW cw laser beam. At room temperature and pressure, the nonlinear refractive-index coefficient of air was found to be n(2)((th))=(-1.9+/-0.2)x10 (-14) cm(2)/W for a beam waist radius of 0.23 mm and was found to be independent of the relative humidity. The thermal nonlinearities of N(2) , O(2) , and CO(2) were also measured, and it was found that the dominant contribution to air is its O(2) content.  相似文献

We report a doubly resonant continuous-wave CO(2) laser frequency-quadrupling device that generates 200nW of 2.55-mum (4?) and as much as 2mW of 5.1-mum (2?) radiation out of 1.7-W fundamental radiation at 10.2 mum (?). The quadrupling process results from two resonant cascading second-harmonic generations by use of a walk-off-compensated twin AgGaSe(2) device (??2?) and a ZnGeP(2)nonlinear crystal (2??4?).  相似文献

We describe the generation of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification of ultrashort optical pulses. The electrical pulses are generated by the second-order nonlinear response of a LiTaO(3) crystal bonded to a coplanar transmission line. A bipolar temporal waveform with a width of 875 fs was measured after a propagation distance of 175mum . This pulse width was limited by the response time of the photoconductive sampler. We observed both broadening and amplitude reduction in the temporal waveform owing to propagation.  相似文献

A diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser was frequency doubled to 0.532mum with an intracavity KTiOPO>(4) crystal in a V-cavity arrangement, achieving an output power of 140 W. Acousto-optic Q switching was employed at repetition rates of 10-30 kHz, and the beam quality was assessed at M(2) approximately 50 . It was deduced on the basis of our model that the strength of the nonlinear frequency conversion is the main parameter determining the pulse width.  相似文献

We investigate resonant nonlinear optical interactions and demonstrate induced transparency in acetylene molecules in a hollow-core photonic-band-gap fiber at 1.5 mum. The induced spectral transmission window is used to demonstrate slow-light effects, and we show that the observed broadening of the spectral features is due to collisions of the molecules with the inner walls of the fiber core. Our results illustrate that such fibers can be used to facilitate strong coherent light-matter interactions even when the optical response of the individual molecules is weak.  相似文献

Tunable 90-ps 15.6-17.6-mum coherent radiation was generated by means of difference-frequency mixing in diffusion-bonded-stacked GaAs. The sample consisted of 24 alternately rotated layers with a total length of 6 mm and with low optical loss to achieve third-order quasi-phase matching. The wavelength-tuning curve was close to the theoretical prediction, demonstrating that the bonding process maintained nonlinear optical phase matching over the entire interaction length. Maximum conversion efficiency of 0.7%, or 5% internal quantum efficiency, was measured at 16.6mum, consistent with the theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We report on a compact double-stage ytterbium-doped-fiber chirped-pulse amplifier system delivering high temporal quality 270 fs pulses of 100 microJ energy at a repetition rate of 300 kHz resulting in a peak power of 340 MW. The recompression down to 1.1 times the Fourier limit is based on the exploitation of nonlinear phase shifts associated with mismatched stretcher-compressor units. A 1-m-long ytterbium-doped 80 mum core diameter photonic crystal fiber is implemented as the power amplifier and allows the production of 143 microJ pulses before compression with an accumulated B integral of 17 rad throughout the amplification stages.  相似文献

We theoretically analyze the nonlinear phase shifts induced by cascaded chi((2)):chi((2)) processes in one-dimensional photonic bandgap structures. We find that the enhancement of the density of modes near the band edge, coupled with a suitable choice of relative phase mismatch, leads to a remarkable new effect: The relative phase shift of the fundamental field on transmission can be of the order of pi over a distance of 7mum , with input intensities of the order of only 10 MW/cm(2).  相似文献
