BODIPY dyes have attracted considerable attention as potential photosensitizers in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) owing to their excellent optical properties and facile structural modification. This account focuses on recent advances in the molecular design of D‐π‐A BODIPY dyes for applications in DSSCs. Special attention has been paid to the structure‐property relationships of D‐π‐A BODIPY dyes for DSSCs. The developmental process in the modified position at the BODIPY core with a donor/acceptor is described. The devices based on 2,6‐modified BODIPY dyes exhibit better photovoltaic performance over other modified BODIPY dyes. Meanwhile, the research reveals the correlation of molecular structures (various donor chromophores, extended units, molecular frameworks, and long alkyl groups) with their photophysical and electrochemical properties and relates it to their performance in DSSCs. The structure‐property relationships give valuable information and guidelines for designing new D‐π‐A BODIPY dyes for DSSCs.

Recently, we demonstrated the potential of a [18F]‐trimethylammonium BODIPY dye for cardiac imaging. This is the first example of the use of the [18F]‐ammonium BODIPY dye for positron emission tomography (PET) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). In this report, we extend our study to other ammonium BODIPY dyes with different nitrogen substituents. These novel ammonium BODIPY dyes were successfully prepared and radiolabeled by the SnCl4‐assisted 18F–19F isotopic exchange method. The microPET results and the biodistribution data reveal that nitrogen substituent changes have a significant effect on the in vivo and pharmacological properties of the tracers. Of the novel [18F]‐ammonium BODIPY dyes prepared in this work, the [18F]‐dimethylethylammonium BODIPY is superior in terms of myocardium uptake and PET imaging contrast. These results support our hypothesis that the ammonium BODIPY dyes have a great potential for use as PET/optical dual‐modality MPI probes.  相似文献

Two new NIR‐absorbing BODIPY dyes, each bearing two pyridinium groups, are synthesized and their DNA‐binding affinities and DNA photocleavage abilities examined in depth. While one BODIPY dye photocleaves DNA mainly through singlet oxygen, the other photocleaves DNA through both singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of a hydroxyl radical being involved in the photodynamic behavior of BODIPY‐type dyes. EPR experiments confirm the ability of these and several related BODIPYs to generate superoxide anion radical and hydroxyl radical. This finding may shed light on the mechanism of BODIPY‐based photodynamic therapy (PDT) and open a new avenue for development of more efficient BODIPY‐type PDT agents.  相似文献

A set of linear and dissymmetric BODIPY‐bridged push–pull dyes are synthesized. The electron‐donating substituents are anisole and dialkylanilino groups. The strongly electron‐accepting moiety, a 1,1,4,4‐tetracyanobuta‐1,3‐diene (TCBD) group, is obtained by insertion of an electron‐rich ethyne into tetracyanoethylene. A nonlinear push–pull system is developed with a donor at the 5‐position of the BODIPY core and the acceptor at the 2‐position. All dyes are fully characterized and their electrochemical, linear and nonlinear optical properties are discussed. The linear optical properties of dialkylamino compounds show strong solvatochromic behavior and undergo drastic changes upon protonation. The strong push–pull systems are non‐fluorescent and the TCBD‐BODIPY dyes show diverse photochemistry and electrochemistry, with several reversible reduction waves for the tetracyanobutadiene moiety. The hyperpolarizability μβ of selected compounds is evaluated using the electric‐field‐induced second‐harmonic generation technique. Two of the TCBD‐BODIPY dyes show particularly high μβ (1.907 μm) values of 2050×10?48 and 5900×10?48 esu. In addition, one of these dyes shows a high NLO contrast upon protonation–deprotonation of the donor residue.  相似文献

New boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes linked to viologen are prepared and their photophysical and electrochemical properties are investigated. Both synthesized molecules have similar electronic absorption spectra with the absorption maximum localized at 517 and 501 nm for dye 1 and dye 2 , respectively. They exhibit well‐defined redox behavior, highlighting the presence of BODIPY and viologen subunits, with little perturbation of the redox potential of both subunits with respect to the parent compounds. Both dyes are heavily quenched by photoinduced electron transfer from the BODIPY to the viologen subunit. The transient absorption technique demonstrates that dye 2 forms the viologen radical within a timeframe of 7.1 ps, and that the charge‐separated species has a lifetime of 59 ps. Sustained irradiation of dye 2 in the presence of a tertiary amine allows for the accumulation of BODIPY–methyl‐4,4′‐bipyridinium (BODIPY–MV+), as observed by its characteristic absorption at 396 and 603 nm. However, dye 2 does not generate catalytic amounts of hydrogen under standard conditions.  相似文献

The effect of peripheral alkyl, aryl, and meso-aza substitution on the thermal stability of BODIPYs in an argon or oxygen atmosphere has been analyzed using thermogravimetric study results. It has been shown that an increase in the length of 2,6-alkyl substituents to seven carbon atoms is accompanied by the growth of BODIPY thermal stability by 80°C. The greatest increase in the destruction temperature of BODIPY (by 100°C) is attained via the introduction of phenyl groups in the 1,3,5,7-positions of its dipyrromethenmethene framework. meso-Aza substitution does not almost produce any effect on the thermal stability of BODIPY dyes. The BODIPY destruction beginning temperature decreases by 60–90°C in the presence of air oxygen. The thermal stability of BODIPY tends to decrease with reducing degree and symmetry of alkyl substitution in the dipyrromethene framework. A lower thermal stability of BODIPY in comparison with zinc(II) dipyrromethenates is due to the participation of fluorine atoms in intramolecular redox processes.  相似文献

A series of water‐soluble red‐emitting distyryl‐borondipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes were designed and synthesized by using three complementary approaches aimed at introducing water‐solubilizing groups on opposite faces of the fluorescent core to reduce or completely suppress self‐aggregation. An additional carboxylic acid functional group was introduced at the pseudo‐meso position of the BODIPY scaffold for conjugation to amine‐containing biomolecules/biopolymers. The optical properties of these dyes were evaluated under simulated physiological conditions (i.e., phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.5) or in pure water. The emission wavelength (λmax) of these labels was found in the 640–660 nm range with quantum yields from modest to unprecedentedly high values (4 to 38 %). The bioconjugation of these distyryl‐BODIPY dyes with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and the monoclonal antibody (mAb) 12A5 was successfully performed under mild aqueous conditions.  相似文献

The boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) triads consisting of two triphenylamine units as electron donor (D) and BODIPY core as electron acceptor (A; B3 , and B4 ) have been synthesized using facile palladium cross‐coupling reactions to broaden the absorption of the BODIPY dyes. All dyes and intermediates were characterized by 1H NMR, 11B NMR, 13C NMR, and 19F NMR spectroscopies, UV–Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and time‐dependent density functional theory calculations. It was found that an increase in conjugation to the BODIPY core systematically extended the absorption and emission wavelength maxima. As a consequence, B4 containing the D–π–A–π–D structure, exhibited the longest absorption and emission maxima at 597 and 700 nm, respectively, with 1.8 eV in optical bandgap. The 96 nm red‐shifted absorption of B4 as compared to the unsubstituted BODIPY ( B1 ) indicated the effective electronic communication between triphenylamine and BODIPY. This suggested that the proper alignment of triphenylamine and BODIPY triad could lead to broader absorption and suitable low energy bandgap. Furthermore, the molecular modeling has been employed to analyze the electronic and optical properties of the dyes. We found that the optical, electrochemical, and theoretical bandgaps of all dyes were in good agreement.  相似文献

Novel deep‐red emissive poly(2,6‐BODIPY‐ethynylene)s bearing dodecyl side chains (polymers A , B , and C ) have been prepared by palladium‐catalyzed Sonogashira polymerization of 2,6‐diiodo‐functionalized BODIPY monomers with 2,6‐diethynyl‐functionalized BODIPY monomers. These polymers emit in the deep‐red region with emission maxima at up to 690 nm, and exhibit significant red shifts (up to 166 and 179 nm) of both absorption and emission maxima compared with their parent BODIPY dyes due to significant extension of π‐conjugation. These polymers possess good thermal stability with decomposition temperature between 270 and 360 °C. The polymers exhibit a little larger Stokes shifts and shorter lifetime than their corresponding BODIPY dyes. The solid state thin films of polymers A , B , and C emit in near‐infrared region between 723 and 743 nm, and show significantly red shifts (up to 57 nm) in absorption and emission maxima relative to their polymer solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new library of E‐ and C‐4,4‐difluoro‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (BODIPY) derivatives has been synthesized through a straightforward protocol from commercially available BODIPY complexes, and a systematic study of the photophysical properties and laser behavior related to the electronic properties of the B‐substituent group (alkynyl, cyano, vinyl, aryl, and alkyl) has been carried out. The replacement of fluorine atoms by electron‐withdrawing groups enhances the fluorescence response of the dye, whereas electron‐donor groups diminish the fluorescence efficiency. As a consequence, these compounds exhibit enhanced laser action with respect to their parent dyes, both in liquid solution and in the solid phase, with lasing efficiencies under transversal pumping up to 73 % in liquid solution and 53 % in a solid matrix. The new dyes also showed enhanced photostability. In a solid matrix, the derivative of commercial dye PM597 that incorporated cyano groups at the boron center exhibited a very high lasing stability, with the laser emission remaining at the initial level after 100 000 pump pulses in the same position of the sample at a 10 Hz repetition rate. Distributed feedback laser emission was demonstrated with organic films that incorporated parent dye PM597 and its cyano derivative. The films were deposited onto quartz substrates engraved with appropriate periodical structures. The C derivative exhibited a laser threshold lower than that of the parent dye as well as lasing intensities up to three orders of magnitude higher.  相似文献

Three boradiazaindacene (BODIPY) dyes with different‐coloured (greenish‐yellow, orange and red) fluorescence and good Stokes shifts were synthesised starting from the greenish‐yellow BODIPY dye PM546. The high Stokes shifts of the dyes are due to the release of the steric strain in their excited states relative to that in the highly twisted ground states. One of these compounds might be a useful water‐soluble fluorophore, whereas the other two are promising H+ sensors.  相似文献

Several new boron dipyrromethene/N,N‐dimethylaminopyridine (BODIPY‐DMAP) assemblies were synthesized as precursors for bimodal imaging probes (optical imaging, OI/positron emission tomography, PET). The photophysical properties of the new compounds were also studied. The first proof‐of‐concept was obtained with the preparation of several new BODIPY‐labeled bombesins and evaluation of the affinity for bombesin receptors by using a competition binding assay. Fluorination reactions were investigated on DMAP‐BODIPY precursors as well as on DMAP‐BODIPY‐labeled bombesins. Chemical modifications on the BODIPY core were also performed to obtain luminescent dyes emitting in the therapeutic window (650–900 nm), suitable for in vivo imaging, making these compounds promising precursors for PET/optical dual‐modality imaging agents.  相似文献

A series of modular mesogenic salts based on the combination of anionic 4,4‐difluoro‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diaza‐s‐indacene (F‐BODIPY) 2,6‐disulfonate dyes and trialkoxybenzyl‐functionalised imidazolium cations has been designed and synthesised. Each salt contains a rigid dianionic BODIPY core associated with two imidazolium cations functionalised by 1,2,3‐trialkoxybenzyl (alkyl=n‐C8, n‐C12 or n‐C16) units or, in one case, with imidazolium cations functionalised by a trialkylgallate (3,4,5‐trialkoxybenzoate) unit in which the 3,5‐dialkyl groups are terminated with a polymerisable acrylate entity. All these compounds were highly fluorescent in solution with quantum yields ranging from 54 to 62 %. In the solid state, the width of the emission band observed at around 650 nm is a clear signature of aggregation. With the trialkoxybenzylimidazolium cations, polarised optical microscopy (POM) and X‐ray scattering experiments showed that columnar mesophases were formed. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies confirmed the mesomorphic behaviour from room temperature to about 130 °C for salts with alkyl chains containing 8, 12 and 16 carbon atoms. The strong luminescence of the BODIPY unit was maintained in the mesophase and fluorescence measurements confirmed the presence of J aggregates in all cases. The salt containing the gallate‐functionalised imidazolium cations showed no mesomorphism but the acrylate terminal units could be used to engender photoinitiated polymerisation thereby allowing the material to be immobilised on glass plates. The polymerisation process was followed by FTIR spectroscopy and the fixed and patterned films were highly fluorescent with a solid‐state emission close to that of the complex in the solid state.  相似文献

The unique properties of boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes including facile synthesis, high absorption coefficients, and delocalized molecular orbitals as well as excellent photochemical and thermal stability, make them promising as materials for organic solar cells. Accordingly, in this study three A‐D ‐A structural small molecules of BDTT‐BODIPY, FL‐BODIPY, and TT‐BODIPY have been synthesized, in which two BODIPY acceptor units are symmetrically conjugated to 4,8‐bis(5‐(2‐ethylhexyl) thiophen‐2‐yl)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b]dithiophene (BDTT), 9,9‐dioctyl‐9H‐fluorene (FL), and thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene (TT) donor cores, respectively. The manipulation of the structural parameters significantly improves the performances of the BHJ OSCs, which show power conversion efficiencies of 4.75 %, 1.51 %, and 1.67 % based on [6,6]‐phenyl C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the acceptor material and BDTT‐BODIPY, FL‐BODIPY, and TT‐BODIPY as the donor materials, respectively.  相似文献

A series of meso‐substituted boron‐bipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes are synthesized and their laser and photophysical properties systematically studied. Laser emission covering a wide visible spectral region (from blue to orange) is obtained by just changing the electron donor character of the heteroatom at position 8. The additional presence of methyl groups at positions 3 and 5 results in dyes with a photostability similar to that of the unsubstituted dye but with much improved efficiency. Correlation of the lasing properties of the different dyes to their photophysical properties provides inklings to define synthetic strategies of new BODIPY dyes with enhanced efficiency and modulated wavelength emission over the visible spectral region.  相似文献

Helical carbazole‐based BODIPY analogues were readily synthesized via aza[7]helicenes. The structures of azahelicene‐incorporated BF2 dyes were elucidated by x‐ray diffraction analysis. DFT calculations revealed that the π‐conjugated system expanded from the helicene moiety to the BODIPY framework. The azahelicene‐fused boron complexes showed the Cotton effects and the circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) in the visible region. Furthermore, an axially chiral binaphthyl group was attached to the helically chiral dyes, which enhanced the chiroptical properties.  相似文献

Novel fluorescent, conformationally restricted dipyrromethene boron difluoride (BODIPY) dyes have been prepared by introducing a naphthalenyl group at the meso position of the BODIPY core. These BODIPY dyes exhibit increased fluorescence quantum yields compared with dyes that have a meso-position phenyl group with internal rotation. The absorption and emission wavelengths of such conformationally restricted BODIPY dyes can be easily tuned to the near-IR range by derivatization through a condensation reaction with benzaldehyde derivatives. The two-photon absorption properties of these BODIPY dyes were also investigated and the results show that they exhibit increased two-photon excited fluorescence compared to analogue dyes that contain a phenyl group. The one- and two-photon fluorescence imaging of living cells by using selected BODIPY dyes has been successfully demonstrated.  相似文献

Herein, we report the synthesis of polyfunctional BODIPY building blocks suitable to be subjected to several reaction sequences with complete chemoselectivity, thereby allowing the preparation of complex BODIPY derivatives in a versatile and programmable manner. The reactions included the Liebeskind–Srogl cross‐coupling reaction (LSCC), nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr), Suzuki, Sonogashira, and Stille couplings, and a desulfitative reduction of the MeS group. This novel synthetic protocol is a powerful route to design a library of compounds with tailored photophysical properties for advanced applications. In this context, it is noteworthy that it offers a straightforward and cost‐effective strategy to shift the BODIPY emission deep into the near‐infrared spectral region while retaining high fluorescence quantum yields as well as highly efficient and stable laser action. These new dyes outperform the lasing behaviour of dyes considered as benchmarks over the red spectral region, overcoming the important drawbacks associated with these commercial laser dyes, namely low absorption at the standard pump wavelengths (355 and 532 nm) and/or poor photostability.  相似文献

A series of fused‐ring‐expanded aza‐boradiazaindacene (aza‐BODIPY) dyes have been synthesized by reacting arylmagnesium bromides with phthalonitriles or naphthalenedicarbonitriles. An analysis of the structure–property relationships has been carried out based on X‐ray crystallography, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. Benzo and 1,2‐naphtho‐fused 3,5‐diaryl aza‐BODIPY dyes display markedly red shifted absorption and emission bands in the near‐IR region (>700 nm) due to changes in the energies of the frontier MOs relative to those of 1,3,5,7‐tetraaryl aza‐BODIPYs. Only one 1,2‐naphtho‐fused aza‐BODIPY of the three possible isomers is formed due to steric effects, and 2,3‐naphtho‐fused compounds could not be characterized because the final BF2 complexes are unstable in solution. The incorporation of a  N(CH3)2 group at the para‐positions of a benzo‐fused 3,5‐diaryl aza‐BODIPY quenches the fluorescence in polar solvents and results in a ratiometric pH response, which could be used in future practical applications as an NIR “turn‐on” fluorescence sensor.  相似文献
