Using a variational method, we have investigated the propagation characteristics of a chirped optical pulse in anomalously dispersive media possessing saturating nonlinearity. For the special case of uniform loss less media, the dynamics of the temporal width of the pulse is shown to be equivalent to an oscillator of unit mass which is executing its motion under some effective potential well. The potential is examined and four different types of behavior of the pulse width are noticed. The role of saturation parameter and the initial chirp in determining the propagation characteristics have been examined. It is found that, both high value of chirp and saturation are detrimental to stable pulse propagation. Particularly, the effect of chirp becomes severe with the increase in the value of saturation. We have shown that incorporation of saturation in the nonlinearity leads to the existence of bistable soliton. For the case of a lossy medium, net broadening of width takes place over many cycles of oscillation. The net broadening decreases with the increase in the value of saturation. 相似文献

The propagation of spatial solitons is systematically investigated
in nonlocal nonlinear media with an imprinted transverse periodic
modulation of the refractive index. Based on the variational
principle and the infinitesimal approximation of Maclaurin series
expansion, we obtain an analytical solution of such nonlocal spatial
solitons and an interesting result that the critical power for such
solitons propagation is smaller than that in uniform nonlocal
self-focusing media. It is found that there exist thresholds in
modulation period and lattice depth for such solitons. A stable
spatial soliton propagation is maintained with proper adjustment of

The propagation velocity of optical wave fronts can be accelerated by the influence of gain saturation. We report systematic measurements for the specific case of Brillouin gain in optical fibers. A simplified analytic rate equation approach permits a qualitative understanding of the observations in terms of a pure amplitude nonlinearity. We point out that there is a close analogy to a mode-locked laser with gain saturation. Pursuing this analogy, we can explain why the changes in propagation velocity are hardly measurable for synchronously pumped lasers, but easily amount to several percent for amplifiers or lasers based on stimulated Brillouin scattering. 相似文献

By using a linear analysis it is analytically shown that the stability of strongly localized modes depends on their symmetry, the sign of nonlinearity, and the degree of localization. The existence of a stable, bright, even mode of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation is demonstrated and confirmed by direct numerical simulations. Orientational nonlinearity is the major mechanism of nonlinear optical phenomena observed in liquidcrystalline phase while
it does not appear to such extent in any other materials. It is caused by distortion of initial molecular arrangement of an
anisotropic medium induced by optical field. Deformation of the anisotropic structure means spatial changes of refractive
index of the medium. This effect has been studied in earnest since the 1980s as its application became more apparent. In this
paper, some results of experimental examination of molecular reorientation in nematics by optical field are presented, which
are not explained in frame of existing Oseen-Frank model and Erickson-Leslie continuous theory. Possible reasons of this discordance
are considered and a way of explanation is suggested.

In this paper, we consider the new model of nonlinear contacting media based on nonlinear Schrodinger equation with point potential and term, which is depended stepwise on field amplitude. Such a model theoretically describes a change in properties of the boundary regions along the interface between a Kerr-type crystal with cubic nonlinearity and a nonlinear medium characterized by abruptly change in dielectric constant depending on field amplitude. The short-range local interaction between wave and interface is taken into account by point potential in nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We obtain two new types of localized states characterized by composite structure consisting of three parts of the field distributions. We find exact and approximate solutions of dispersion equations. We described new properties of the spectrum of localized states arising as a result of the interaction of the wave with the interface and the presence of threshold field of the switching between the medium constants. All results are obtained in an analytical form. The proposed theory can be used to describe the propagation features of intense light beams localized along media interfaces in nonlinear optics, and to describe Bose-Einstein condensates with cubic nonlinearity. 相似文献

光正交频分复用系统中的光纤非线性效应制约着系统进一步的扩容. 针对此问题, 提出一种数字相干叠加的方法, 用于提高相干光正交频分复用系统对光纤非线性的容忍性. 仿真中, 5通道的波分复用下偏振复用相干光正交频分复用系统的每个通道传输四进制正交振幅调制映射的71.53 Gbit/s信号在光纤中传输400 km. 首先, 通道间隔为25 GHz, 与传统相干光正交频分复用系统相比, 色散补偿前后, 使用数字相干叠加的相干光正交频分复用系统的信噪比分别提升了6.02 dB和9.05 dB, 最佳入纤光功率均增大了2 dB; 其次, 通道间隔为50 GHz, 色散补偿前后, 信噪比分别提升了4.9 dB和8.75 dB. 通过理论推导及仿真, 验证了所提方法能有效消除相干光正交频分复用系统的一阶非线性失真, 进而提高系统对光纤非线性的容忍性. 相似文献

Ultrashort pulse breaking in optical fiber with third-order dispersion and quintic nonlinearity 下载免费PDF全文
The optical wave breaking (OWB) characteristics in terms of the pulse shape, spectrum, and frequency chirp, in the normal dispersion regime of an optical fiber with both the third-order dispersion (TOD) and quintic nonlinearity (QN) are numerically calculated. The results show that the TOD causes the asymmetry of the temporal- and spectral-domain, and the chirp characteristics. The OWB generally appears near the pulse center and at the trailing edge of the pulse, instead of at the two edges of the pulse symmetrically in the case of no TOD. With the increase of distance, the relation of OWB to the TOD near the pulse center increases quickly, leading to the generation of ultra-short pulse trains, while the OWB resulting from the case of no TOD at the trailing edge of the pulse disappears gradually. In addition, the positive (negative) QN enhances (weakens) the chirp amount and the fine structures, thereby inducing the OWB phenomena to appear earlier (later). Thus, the TOD and the positive (negative) QN are beneficial (detrimental) to the OWB and the generation of ultra-short pulse trains. 相似文献

A semi-discrete dynamic model has been developed for the formation of the spatial structure of wave fields in a medium with
cubic nonlinearity. The characteristic features of self-focusing and conical modulation of intense Bessel-Gaussian light beams
of different orders have been studied in different stages of their evolution during propagation. It has been shown that as
a result of nonlinear refraction, in the far zone wave structures are formed consisting of three spatially separated conical
beams. Increasing the cone angle of the wave vectors leads to a decrease in the effect of conical modulation of the radiation,
and improves the structural stability of the beam. The considered self-modulation effects can be used for passive limiting
of the laser radiation power.

The theoretical analysis of manifestations of nonparaxiality of propagation (in the plane transverse to the direction of propagation of radiation) of soliton-like beams-pulses in self-focusing media with electronic saturable nonlinearity is carried out. It is shown that, in formation of such structures by pulses of a comparatively small duration, a modulation of the radiation intensity arises, which can result in a fragmentation of the beam in the longitudinal direction. Polarization dynamics are considered in the presence of an anisotropic Kerr non-linearity in the most common semiconductor waveguide geometry. The equations of motion are formulated in terms of Stokes polarization parameters and their Hamiltonian form is derived. Stationary solutions and their stability are found for plane-wave propagation. It is found that the non-integrable problem of mixed-polarization spatial soliton dynamics can be largely explained in terms of the equivalent plane-wave solutions. 相似文献

We propose an efficient protocol for W polarization entangled state distribution over an arbitrary collective-noise channel with the help of the cross-Kerr nonlinearity. The entangled state in the frequency degree of freedom, which suffers little from the noise in an optical fiber, is used in the present protocol. The frequency entanglement can be transferred into polarization entanglement with the success probability of 100%. So, the three parities can share the maximally W polarization state with local operations and polarization independent wavelength division multiplexers which can erase distinguishability for frequency. 相似文献

A new pentagon polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibre with low nonlinearity is introduced. The full vector finite element method was used to investigate the distribution and the effective area of modal field, the nonlinear properties, the effective indices of two orthogonal polarization modes and the birefringence of the new PM-PCF effectively. It is found that the birefringence of the new polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibre can easily achieve the order of 10-4, and it can obtain higher birefringence, larger effectively mode-field area and lower nonlinearity than traditional hexagonal polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibre with the same hole pitch, same hole diameter, and same ring number. We investigate the properties of fundamental, multi-peak, and multi-peaked twisted solitons in three types of finite waveguide lattices imprinted in photorefractive media with asymmetrical diffusion nonlinearity. Two opposite soliton self-bending signals are considered for different families of solitons. Power thresholdless fundamental and multi-peaked solitons are stable in the low power region. The existence domain of two-peaked twisted solitons can be changed by the soliton self-bending signals. When solitons tend to self-bend toward the waveguide lattice, stable two-peaked twisted solitons can be found in a larger region in the middle of their existence region. Three-peaked twisted solitons are stable in the lower (upper) cutoff region for a shallow (deep) lattice depth. Our results provide an effective guidance for revealing the soliton characteristics supported by a finite waveguide lattice with diffusive nonlocal nonlinearity. 相似文献
