Abstract

A simple device for isolation of organic compounds from aqueous samples has been designed and its operating parameters tested during bioth periodic and continuous operation using isolation of organochlorine compounds as an example.

A stream of an aqueous sample is pumped at elevated temperature by a piston pump to an unit for expransion of the liquid phase surface, where the liquid is sprayed on the walls of the unit and flows down freely.

Organochlorine compounds passing to the gaseous phase are purged with a stream of purified air, oxidied and the chlorides formed are determined coulometrically. The designed device, due to its simplicity, can be built and employed in each averagely equipped laboratory.  相似文献

Photochromic spiropyrans modified with fluorophores were investigated as molecular platforms for the achievement of fluorescence switching through modulation of energy transfer. The dyads were designed in such a way that energy transfer is only observed for the open forms of the photochrome (merocyanine and protonated merocyanine), whereas the closed spiropyran is inactive as an energy acceptor. This was made possible through a deliberate choice of fluorophores (4‐amino‐1,8‐naphthalimide, dansyl, and perylene) that produce zero spectral overlap with the spiro form and considerable overlap for the merocyanine forms. From the Förster theory, energy transfer is predicted to be highly efficient and in some cases of 100 % efficiency. The combined switching by photonic (light of λ>530 nm) and chemical (base) inputs enabled the creation of a sequential logic device, which is the basic element of a keypad lock. Furthermore, in combination with an anthracene‐based acidochromic fluorescence switch, a reversible logic device was designed. This enables the unambiguous coding of different input combinations through multicolour fluorescence signalling. All devices can be conveniently reset to their initial states and repeatedly cycled.  相似文献

A fiber-packed needle was developed as a novel extraction device for gas-chromatographic analysis of trace organic compounds in aqueous samples. In the extraction device, a bundle of the polymer-coated filaments as the sorbent material was longitudinally packed into a specially designed needle. The extraction was made by pumping the aqueous sample solution into the needle extraction device, and the subsequent desorption process was carried out with a flow of desorption solvent through the needle in a heated gas chromatograph injector. The needle device showed an excellent thermal stability for repeated use without any deterioration of extraction performance, and no carryover effect was observed after the optimization of the desorption conditions. Additionally, the extraction efficiency of the fiber-packed needle could be enhanced by optimizing the number of packed filaments. The selectivity for various compounds could be also tuned using an appropriate combination of the fibrous medium and the coating polymer. The relative standard deviation for run to run was from 3.88 to 4.55% (n = 5), and that for needle to needle was 7.21% (n = 3), clearly suggesting a good repeatability of the needle extraction technique developed. Upon successful optimization of the extraction conditions, a rapid extraction of trace organic compounds from an aqueous sample matrix was successfully demonstrated, where each extraction process was completed within 10 min.  相似文献

设计组装了炭阱吸附装置,并与气相色谱-质谱(GC-MS)联用测定了银杏叶和利马豆的挥发性有机物。采用炭阱吸附装置与固相微萃取(SPME)收集银杏叶的挥发性有机物,用GC-MS进行分析,结果表明采用炭阱吸附装置对银杏叶挥发性有机物的富集效果优于SPME方法。实验还采用内标法对利马豆的挥发性有机物进行了初步的定量,两次实验结果的重复性较好。由于炭阱吸附装置能够很好地收集植物的挥发性有机物,且可以进行多个样品的平行实验及植物挥发性有机物的定量研究,因此炭阱吸附装置与GC-MS联用更适合用于实验室中植物挥发性有机物的研究。  相似文献

In this study, a sorbent was immobilized inside a needle resulting in the development of a needle trap (NT) device. This device was applied to extract organic components from gaseous samples and to introduce an enriched mixture into a conventional gas chromatography (GC) injector. Construction of this simple and integrated sampling/extraction/sample introduction device was optimized by considering different ways to immobilize a sorbent in the needle, packing single and multiple-layer sorbent beds, and applying different desorption strategies into the GC injector. A carrier gas system was modified to minimize the carryover for the needle trap with a sealed tip (NT-1), and a narrow-neckliner was used for the blunt-tip needle trap (NT-2). Breakthrough in the device was investigated by connecting two NT-2 devices in series. The needle trap performed very well as an exhaustive spot sampler, as well as in a time-weighted average (TWA) operation. The linear velocity of the mobile phase has no influence on the sampling rate of the needle trap. Validation results against the standard NIOSH 1501 method using charcoal tubes for indoor air surveys demonstrated good accuracy for the NT approach. The reproducibility of the NT-2 was about 1% for benzene. The detection limits for FID detection and for 25 ml gas sample were 0.23 ng/l, 2.10 ng/l and 1.12 ng/l for benzene, ethylbenzene and o-xylene, respectively.  相似文献

Standard gases are used for quality control and quality assurance, development of analysis methods and novel air sampling devices. The use of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and other novel technologies for research in the area of air sampling and analysis requires systems/devices for reliable standard gas generation and sampling. In this paper we describe a new gas standard generating system for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-VOCs that was designed, built, and tested to facilitate fundamental and applications research with SPME. The system provided for the generation of a wide range of VOC/semi-VOC concentrations and mixing various standard gases, estimation of detection limits, testing the effects of sampling time, air temperature and relative humidity, testing the effects of air velocity and ozone on sampling/extractions. The system can be also used for calibrations of analytical instrumentation, quality control and quality assurance checks, and cross-validations of SPME with/and other sampling techniques.  相似文献

Classically described as a macroscale size-density based method, Sedimentation field flow fractionation (SdFFF) has been successfully used for cell sorting. The goal of this study was to develop a new SdFFF device for downscale applications, in particular for oncology research to rapidly monitor chemical biological event induction in a cell line. The development of a downscale SdFFF device required reduction of the separation channel volume. Taking advantage of a newly laboratory designed apparatus, channel volume was successfully decreased by reducing both length and breadth. To validate the apparatus and method, we used the well-known model of diosgenin dose-dependent induction of apoptosis or megakaryocytic differentiation in HEL cells. After a minute scale acquisition of a reference profile, the downscale device was able to perform fast, early, significant and reproducible monitoring of apoptosis and differentiation, two important biological mechanisms in the field of cancer research.  相似文献

We report the development of a microfabricated gas chromatography system suitable for the separation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and compatible with use as a portable measurement device. Hydrofluoric acid etching of 95 × 95 mm Schott B270 wafers has been used to give symmetrical hemi-spherical channels within a glass substrate. Two matching glass plates were subsequently cold bonded with the channels aligned; the flatness of the glass surfaces resulted in strong bonding through van der Waals forces. The device comprised gas fluidic interconnections, injection zone and 7.5 and 1.4 m long, 320 μm internal diameter capillaries. Optical microscopy confirmed the capillaries to have fully circular channel profiles. Direct column heating and cooling could be achieved using a combination of resistive heaters and Peltier devices. The low thermal conductivity of glass allowed for multiple uniform temperature zones to be achieved within a single glass chip. Temperature control over the range 10–200 °C was achieved with peak power demand of approximately 25 W. The 7.5 m capillary column was static coated with a 2 μm film of non-polar dimethylpolysiloxane stationary phase. A standard FID and a modified lightweight 100 mW photoionization detector (PID) were coupled to the column and performance tested with gas mixtures of monoaromatic and monoterpene species at the parts per million concentration level. The low power GC-PID device showed good performance for a small set of VOCs and sub ng detection sensitivity to monoaromatics.  相似文献
