We study the behavior of the optical bistability (OB) and multistability (OM) in a two-level pumped-probe atomic system by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We show that the optical bistability in a two-level atomic system can be controlled by adjusting the intensity of the pump field and the detuning between two fields. We find that applying the pumping field decreases the threshold of the optical bistability. 相似文献

Transitions from equilibrium to quasiperiodicity and from a two-cycle to a quasiperiodic regime are studied in a ring of unidirectionally-coupled nonidentical logistic maps. The former scenario is realized through a “soft” (Neimark–Sacker) bifurcation, while the latter through a “hard” (saddle-node) bifurcation. Special attention is paid on a noise-induced transition through “hard” bifurcation, where a phenomenon of structural stabilization of the quasiperiodic system near the bifurcation point is observed and analyzed in detail. 相似文献

We present exact numerical results for a symmetric layered medium (prism/Ag film/nonlinear dielectric/Ag film/prism) where
the middle dielectric slab is assumed to have a saturation-type nonlinearity. We show bistable behaviour in the power dependence
of the reflectivity ofp-polarized light under the condition when coupled surface modes are excited in the structure. Moreover, we study the effect
of saturation on the bistable behaviour to show that multivalued character is inhibited by saturation effects. The field distributions

The behavior of the optical bistability (OB) is investigated in an optical system which consists of a four-level atomic system with a microwave drive field and an optical cavity. It is found that the optical bistability can be accomplished by adjusting different physical parameters in both steady and transient process. Due to the existence of the microwave drive field, the optical bistability can be also obtained even under weak coherent coupling field condition. Since the intensity and phase of microwave drive field can be conveniently modulated, this optical system provides a new experimental method to test the optical bistability theory. 相似文献

We study the influence of frequency noise on optical bistability in the neighborhood of the critical point where the hysteresis loop appears. We show that when the transmitted field evolves on a faster time scale than that of the noise, the hysteresis loop shifts toward lower values of the incident pumping field. 相似文献

We present the results of a simulation study of a multilayer structure for which strongly enhanced (resonant) electric fields are produced at the surface of, and in the interior of, a planar waveguide which is evanescently coupled to an incoming beam in a prism geometry. The resulting field enhancements can far exceed those associated with the well-known surface plasmon resonance in a typical silver film excited in the conventional attenuated total reflection geometry. Simulations are performed for optical bistability for the case of a typical YAG laser beam coupled to a zinc oxide (ZnO) waveguide, demonstrating that the effect should occur for reasonable values of the parameters involved. 相似文献

A composite system consisting of a degenerate optical parametric oscillator (DOPO) and N two-level atoms interacting with a broadband squeezed vacuum (SV) centred at frequency cas and an input monochromatic pumping field with a frequency ωp is analysed. The corresponding explicit analytical steady-state solutions in the central mode ωp = ωs are derived, and the result displays optical bistability (OB). We present a theoretical investigation of optical bistability in a nonlinear semiconductor ring resonator, by taking into account the two-photon absorption and the free-carrier absorption. By solving the intensity equation within the ring resonator, a parametric formulation is obtained for describing the bistability relation between the input and the output intensities. We theoretically investigate the optical bistability, which one input signal allows two possible outputs, from single spherical/cylindrical nanoparticles and also nanoshells in the frame work of quasi-static formalism. It is shown that the bistability behavior greatly depends on several parameters such as the nanoparticle size, material and the surrounding dielectric environment. We demonstrated the width of the bistability region and also the bistable threshold depends on the geometrical parameters, and can be tuned by adjusting the size of nanoparticle, the shell thickness and the dielectric constant of the embedding medium. It is also shown that the optical bistable behavior depends strongly on the shape of plasmonic nanoparticles and nanoshells. However, these dependences of optical bistability of spherical/cylindrical nanoparticles and nanoshells on changing of their geometrical parameters can be used for realize optical switching and sensing purposes. 相似文献

研究非稀释极限下带壳的球形颗粒复合介质体系光学双稳的温度效应.其中带壳颗粒是由具有线性响应的核和非线性响应的壳层组成.由于复合体系中的空间局域场是不均匀的,所以应用自洽平均场理论,解析推导核内电场平方的空间平均值与外电场的关系表达式,并对不同温度及不同结构参数下的光学双稳进行了数值计算.结果表明,双稳与温度T、结构参数k和体积分数f有关.在k和f一定时,随温度的升高,双稳效应因上阈值减小、下阈值增大而逐渐减弱,直至双稳消失;在T和f一定时,随结构参数的增大,上、下阈值都增大,而上阈值的增速较大从而导致双稳区域宽度加大.

We theoretically investigate the Doppler effect on optical bistability in an N-type active Raman gain atomic system inside an optical ring cavity.It is shown that the Doppler effect can greatly enhance the dispersion and thus create the bistable behaviour or greatly increase the bistable region,which has been known as the positive Doppler effect on optical bistability.In addition,we find that a positive Doppler effect can change optical bistability from the hybrid dispersion-gain type to a dispersive type. 相似文献

We study third harmonic generation in layered configuration when the fundamental exhibits bistable response. We consider two
geometries, namely, a Fabry-Perot cavity with reflection coatings and a distributed feedback structure with alternate nonlinear
layers. In both the cases for suitable choice of frequency, the power response at the fundamental frequency is bistable. We
show that bistability of the fundamental leads to a multivalued character of the generated third harmonic in both the forward
and backward directions. Moreover, we study frequency response in the case of the Fabry-Perot cavity and show that additional
structures arise in the generated third harmonic due to frequency bistability of the fundamental. Our calculations suggest
the possibility of an all optical switch at third harmonic frequency controlled by the parameters (like intensity, frequency)

We study the optical bistability for a Bose-Einstein condensate of atoms in a driven optical cavity with a Kerr medium. We find that both the threshold point of optical bistability transition and the width of optical bistability hysteresis can be controlled by appropriately adjusting the Kerr interaction between the photons. In particular, we show that the optical bistability will disappear when the Kerr interaction exceeds a critical value. 相似文献
