Two inequalities are proved. The first is a generalization for cellular algebras of a well- known theorem about the coincidence of the degree and the multiplicity of an irreducible representation of a finite group in its regular representation. If A,B are irreducible, nonnegative n×n matrices with a common right eigenvector and a common left eigenvector corresponding to their respective spectral radii r(A), r(B), then it is shown that for any tϵ[0, 1], r(tA+(1−t)Bt)⩾tr(A)+ (1−t)r(B), where Bt is the transpose of B. Another inequality is proved that involves r(A) and rlDlAEl), where A is a nonnegative, irreducible matrix and Dl, El are positive definite diagonal matrices. In this note, we prove two isoperimetric inequalities for the sharp constant in the Sobolev embedding and its associated extremal function. The first inequality is a variation on the classical Schwarz Lemma from complex analysis, similar to recent inequalities of Burckel, Marshall, Minda, Poggi-Corradini, and Ransford, while the second generalizes an isoperimetric inequality for the first eigenfunction of the Laplacian due to Payne and Rayner.  相似文献

Motivated by models from stochastic population biology and statistical mechanics, we proved new inequalities of the form (1) ?(eAeB)??(eA+B), where A and B are n × n complex matrices, 1<n<∞, and ? is a real-valued continuous function of the eigenvalues of its matrix argument. For example, if A is essentially nonnegative, B is diagonal real, and ? is the spectral radius, then (1) holds; if in addition A is irreducible and B has at least two different diagonal elements, then the inequality (1) is strict. The proof uses Kingman's theorem on the log-convexity of the spectral radius, Lie's product formula, and perturbation theory. We conclude with conjectures.  相似文献
