Two novel Mn12 derivatives [Mn12O12(O2CC[triple bond]CH)16(H2O)4] x 3H2O (1) and [Mn12(O2CC[triple bond]CC6H5)16(H2O)4] x 3H2O (2) have been prepared and characterized. Magnetic measurements confirm that both function as single-molecule magnets (SMM), showing frequency-dependent out-of-phase AC susceptibility signals and magnetization hysteresis curves. Thermal stability studies of both complexes were first conducted in the solid state. While complex 1 undergoes a sudden exothermal decomposition at T(onset) = 118 degrees C, complex 2 exhibits a higher stability. Thermolysis reaction of 1 was hence assessed in solution to yield dark red crystals of a two-dimensional Mn(II)-based co-ordination polymer [Mn3(O2CC[triple bond]CH)6(H2O)4] x 2H2O (3), which corresponds to an extended sheet-like structure that crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n; a = 9.2800(2) angstroms, b = 9.4132(2) angstroms, c = 14.9675(3) angstroms, beta = 99.630(1) degrees, and Z = 2. Finally, the magnetic properties of complex 3 have been studied on an oriented single crystal over two different orientations of the reciprocal vector versus the external field.  相似文献

The magnetic susceptibility and low-temperature magnetization curve of the [3 x 3] grid [Mn(III)4Mn(II)5(2poap-2H)6](ClO4)10.10 H2O (1) are analyzed within a spin Hamiltonian approach. The Hilbert space is huge (4,860,000 states), but the consequent use of all symmetries and a two-step fitting procedure nevertheless allows the best-fit determination of the magnetic exchange parameters in this system from complete quantum mechanical calculations. The cluster exhibits a total spin S = 1/2 ground state; the implications are discussed.  相似文献

[Mn4(hmp)6(H2O)2(NO3)2](NO3)2.2.5H2O (1) has been synthesized from the reaction of 2-hydroxymethylpyridine (Hhmp) with Mn(NO3)2.4H2O in the presence of tetraethylammonium hydroxide. 1 crystallizes in the triclinic P space group with two crystallographically independent centrosymmetrical [Mn4(hmp)6(H2O)2(NO3)2]2+ complexes in the packing structure. Four Mn ions are arranged in a double-cuboidal fashion where outer Mn2+ are heptacoordinated and inner Mn3+ are hexacoordinated. dc magnetic measurements show that both Mn2+...Mn3+ and Mn3+...Mn3+ interactions are ferromagnetic with J(wb)/k(B) = +0.80(5) K, and J(bb)/k(B) = +7.1(1) K, respectively, leading to an S(T) = 9 ground state. Combined ac and dc measurements reveal the single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior of 1 with both thermally activated and ground-state tunneling regimes, including quantum phase interference. In the thermally activated regime, the characteristic relaxation time (tau) of the system follows an Arrhenius law with tau0 = 6.7 x 10(-)(9) s and delta(eff)/k(B) = 20.9 K. Below 0.34 K, tau saturates indicating that the quantum tunneling of the magnetization becomes the dominant relaxation process as expected for SMMs. Down to 0.04 K, field dependence of the magnetization measured using the mu-SQUID technique shows the presence of very weak inter-SMM interactions (zJ'/k(B) approximately -1.5 x 10(-3) K) and allows an estimation of D/k(B) at -0.35 K. Quantum phase interference has been used to confirm the D value and to estimate the transverse anisotropic parameter to E/k(B) = +0.083 K and the ground-state tunnel splitting delta(LZ) = 3 x 10(-7) K at H(trans) = 0 Oe. These results rationalize the observed tunneling time (tau(QTM)) and the effective energy barrier (delta(eff)).  相似文献

To examine the real ability of the binuclear di-mu-oxo complex [Mn2(III,IV)O2(terpy)2(H2O)2]3+ (2) to act as a catalyst for water oxidation, we have investigated in detail its redox properties and that of its mononuclear precursor complex [Mn(II)(terpy)2]2+ (1) in aqueous solution. It appears that electrochemical oxidation of 1 allows the quantitative formation of 2 and, most importantly, that electrochemical oxidation of 2 quantitatively yields the stable tetranuclear Mn(IV) complex, [Mn4(IV)O5(terpy)4(H2O)2]6+ (4), having a linear mono-mu-oxo{Mn2(mu-oxo)2}2 core. Therefore, these results show that the electrochemical oxidation of 2 in aqueous solution is only a one-electron process leading to 4 via the formation of a mono-mu-oxo bridge between two oxidized [Mn2(IV,IV)O2(terpy)2(H2O)2]4+ species. 4 is also quantitatively formed by dissolution of the binuclear complex [Mn2(IV,IV)O2(terpy)2(SO4)2] (3) in aqueous solutions. Evidence of this work is that 4 is stable in aqueous solutions, and even if it is a good synthetic analogue of the "dimers-of-dimers" model compound of the OEC in PSII, this complex is not able to oxidize water. As a consequence, since 4 results from an one-electron oxidation of 2, 2 cannot act as an efficient homogeneous electrocatalyst for water oxidation. This work demonstrates that a simple oxidation of 2 cannot produce molecular oxygen without the help of an oxygen donor.  相似文献

This report describes the synthesis, characterization, and X-ray crystal structures of two Mn(III) complexes, Mn(DMHP)3 x 12H2O and Mn(DMHP)2Cl x 0.5H2O (DMHP = 1,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-4-pyridinone). Mn(DMHP)2Cl was prepared from the reaction of Mn(II) chloride with 2 equiv of DMHP under reflux in the presence of triethylamine. Mn(DMHP)3 was obtained by reacting Mn(II) acetate with 3 equiv of DMHP in the presence of sodium acetate. Mn(DMHP)3 could also be prepared by reacting Mn(OAc)3 x 2H2O with 3 equiv of DMHP in the presence of triethylamine. Both Mn(III) complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, electronic paramagnetic resonance, electrospray ionization spectroscopy, electrochemical method, and X-ray crystallography. The X-ray crystal structure of Mn(DMHP)2Cl x 0.5H2O revealed a rare example of five-coordinated Mn(III) complexes with two bidentate ligands and a square pyramidal coordination geometry. Surprisingly, the average Mn-O (hydroxy) bond distance in Mn(DMHP)2Cl x 0.5H2O is approximately 0.025 A longer than that of the average Mn-O (carbonyl) bond, suggesting an extensive delocalization of electrons in the two pyridinone rings. The structure of Mn(DMHP)3 x 12H2O, a rare example of six-coordinate high-spin Mn(III) complexes without Jahn-Teller distortion, is isostructural to M(DMHP)3 x 12H2O (M = Al, Ga, Fe, and In). The electrochemical data for Mn(DMHP)3 suggests that the Mn(III) oxidation state is highly stabilized by three DMHP ligands. DMHP has the potential as a chelator for the removal of excess intracellular Mn and the treatment of chronic Mn toxicity.  相似文献

The syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties are reported of the mixed-metal complexes [Ce4Mn10O10(OMe)6(O2CPh)16(NO3)2(MeOH)2(H2O)2] (1) and [Th6Mn10O22(OH)2(O2CPh)16-(NO3)2(H2O)8] (2), which were both prepared by the reaction of (NBun4)[Mn4O2(O2CPh)9(H2O)] (3) with a source of the heterometal in MeCN/MeOH. Complexes 1 and 2 crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/c and the triclinic space group P, respectively. Complex 1 consists of 10 MnIII, 2 CeIII, and 2 CeIV atoms and possesses a very unusual tubular [Ce4Mn10O10(OMe)6]18+ core. Complex 2 consists of 10 MnIV and 6 ThIV atoms and possesses a [Th6Mn10O22(OH)2]18+ core with the metal atoms arranged in layers with a 2:3:6:3:2 pattern. Peripheral ligation around the cores is provided by 16 bridging benzoates, 2 chelating nitrates, and either (i) 2 each of terminal H2O and MeOH groups in 1 or (ii) 8 terminal H2O groups in 2. Complex 1 is the largest mixed-metal Ce/Mn cluster and the first 3d/4f cluster with mixed-valency in its lanthanide component, while complex 2 is the first Th/Mn cluster and the largest mixed transition metal/actinide cluster to date. Solid-state dc and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements on 1 and 2 establish that they possess S = 4 and 3 ground states, respectively. Ac susceptibility studies on 1 revealed nonzero frequency-dependent out-of-phase (chiM' ') signals at temperatures below 3 K; complex 2 displays no chiM' ' signals. However, single-crystal magnetization vs dc field scans at variable temperatures and variable sweep-rates down to 0.04 K on 1 revealed no noticeable hysteresis loops, except very minor ones at 0.04 K assignable to weak intermolecular interactions propagated by hydrogen bonds involving CeIII-bound ligands. Complex 1 is thus concluded not to be a single-molecule magnet (SMM), and the combined results thus represent a caveat against taking such ac signals as sufficient proof of a SMM.  相似文献

The syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of two new Mn7 complexes containing phenylseleninate ligands are reported. [Mn7O8(O2SePh)8(O2CMe)(H2O)] (1) and [Mn7O8(O2SePh)9(H2O)] (2) were both prepared by the reaction of 18 equiv of benzeneseleninic acid (PhSeO2H) with [Mn12O12(O2CMe)16(H2O)4] in MeCN. Complex 1 x 6MeCN crystallizes in the triclinic space group P, and complex 2 x 2CH2Cl2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/m. Both compounds possess an unprecedented [Mn7O8]9+ core comprising a central [MnIII3(micro3-O)4]+ unit attached to [MnIV2(micro-O)2]4+ and [MnIV2(micro-O)(micro3-O)]4+ units on either side. In each cluster, the PhSeO2- groups function as bridging ligands between adjacent Mn centers. The structure reveals strong Se.O intermolecular contacts between Mn7 units to give a one-dimensional chain structure, with weak interchain interactions. Solid-state DC magnetic susceptibility measurements of complexes 1 and 2 reveal that they have very similar properties, and detailed studies on 1 by AC susceptibility measurements confirm an S = 2 ground-state spin value. In addition, out-of-phase AC signals are observed, suggesting slow magnetization relaxation. Magnetization versus DC field sweeps down to 0.04 K reveals hysteresis loops, but the temperature dependence of the coercivity is not what is expected of a single-molecule magnet. Instead, the behavior is due to single-chain magnetism, albeit with weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the chains, with the barrier to relaxation arising from a combination of molecular anisotropy and ferromagnetic intermolecular exchange interactions mediated by the Se...O contacts. An Arrhenius plot was constructed from the magnetization versus time decay data. The thermally activated region at > 0.5 K gave an effective relaxation barrier (Ueff) of 14.2 K. Below approximately 0.1 K, the relaxation is independent of temperature, which is characteristic of magnetization quantum tunneling through the anisotropy barrier. These Mn7 compounds are thus the first single-chain magnets to comprise polynuclear metal clusters and also the first for which the temperature-independent relaxation characteristic of tunneling has been identified. The work also emphasizes that out-of-phase AC signals for ostensibly molecular compounds are not sufficient proof by themselves of a single-molecule magnet.  相似文献

Two transition-metal tetrathioarsenate complexes, [Mn(dien)(2)](n)[Mn(dien)AsS(4)](2n).4nH(2)O (1) with one-dimensional water chain and [Mn(en)(3)](2)[Mn(en)(2)AsS(4)][As(3)S(6)] (2) with mixed-valence As(3+)/As(5+) character, have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The tetrathioarsenate(V) anion acts as a novel mu(2)-eta(1),eta(2) ligand in 1 and as a chelating ligand in 2. The two compounds exhibit intriguing semiconducting properties (E(g) = 2.18 eV (1), 2.48 eV (2)) and strong photoluminescence with the emission maximum occurring around 440 nm.  相似文献

We report the geometrical features and electronic structures of di-mu-oxo-bridged Mn-Mn binuclear complexes with H2O ligands [Mn2O2(H2O)8]q+ in the iso- and mixed-valence oxidation states. All of the combinations among Mn(II), Mn(III), and Mn(IV) ions are considered the oxidation states of the Mn-Mn center, and the changes in molecular structure induced by the different electron configurations of Mn-based orbitals are investigated in relation to the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) of photosystem II. The stable geometries of complexes are determined by using the hybrid-type density functional theory for both of the highest- and lowest-spin couplings between Mn sites, and the lowest-spin-coupled states are energetically more favorable than the highest-spin-coupled states except in the case of the complexes with the Mn(II) ion. The coordination positions of H2O ligands at the Mn(II) site tend to shift from the octahedral positions in contrast to those at the Mn(III) and Mn(IV) sites. The shape of the Mn2O2 core and the distances between the Mn ions and the H2O ligands vary depending on the electron occupations of the octahedral eg orbitals on the Mn site with an antibonding nature for the Mn-ligand interactions, indicating the trend as Mn(II)-O > Mn(III)-O and Mn(IV)-O, O-Mn(II)-O > O-Mn(III)-O > O-Mn(IV)-O among the iso-valence Mn2O2 cores, and O-Mn(lower)-O < O-Mn(higher)-O within the mixed-valence Mn2O2 core, and as Mn(II)-OH2 and Mn(III)-OH2 > Mn(IV)-OH2 for the axial H2O ligand. The optimized geometries of model complexes are compared with the X-ray structure of the OEC, and it is suggested that the cubane-like Mn cluster of the active site may not contain a Mn(II) ion. The effective exchange integrals are estimated by applying the approximate spin projection to clarify the magnetic coupling between Mn sites, and the superexchange pathways through the di-mu-oxo bridge are examined on the basis of the singly occupied magnetic orbitals derived from the singlet-coupled natural orbitals in the broken-symmetry state. The comparisons of the calculated results between [Mn2O2(H2O)8]q+ in this study and [Mn2O2(NH3)8]q+ reported by McGrady et al. suggest that the symmetric pathways are dominant to the exchange coupling constant, and the crossed pathway would be less important for the former than it would for the latter in the Mn(III)-Mn(III), Mn(IV)-Mn(IV), and Mn(III)-Mn(IV) oxidation states.  相似文献

Detailed studies are reported of a Mn(12) single-molecule magnet (SMM) in truly axial (tetragonal) symmetry. The complex is [Mn(12)O(12)(O(2)CCH(2)Br)(16)(H(2)O)(4)].4CH(2)Cl(2) (2.4CH(2)Cl(2) or Mn(12)-BrAc), obtained by the standard carboxylate substitution method. The complex has an S = 10 ground state, typical of the Mn(12) family, and displays frequency-dependent out-of-phase AC susceptibility signals and hysteresis in single-crystal magnetization vs applied DC field sweeps. Single-crystal high-frequency EPR spectra in frequencies up to 360 GHz exhibit narrow signals that are not overlapping multiplets, in contrast to [Mn(12)O(12)(O(2)CMe)(16)(H(2)O)(4)].2MeCO(2)H.4H(2)O (1 or Mn(12)-Ac), which also crystallizes in an axial (tetragonal) space group but which now is recognized to consist of a mixture of six hydrogen-bonded isomers in the crystal and thus gives multiple, inhomogeneously broadened EPR signals. Similarly, single-crystal (55)Mn NMR spectra on Mn(12)-BrAc display much sharper signals than a single crystal of Mn(12)-Ac, and this allows one Mn(III) signal to show an almost baseline-resolved quintet from quadrupolar splitting ((55)Mn, I = 5/2, 100%), allowing quadrupole coupling parameters (e(2)qQ) to be determined. In addition, it was found that crushing crystals of Mn(12)-BrAc into a microcrystalline powder causes severe broadening and shifts of the NMR resonances, emphasizing the superiority of single-crystal studies. The combined results establish that Mn(12)-BrAc is far superior to Mn(12)-Ac for the study of the intrinsic properties of the Mn(12) family of SMMs in axial symmetry, and for the search for new phenomena such as quantum interference effects caused by higher-order (>2nd-order) transverse terms in the spin Hamiltonian.  相似文献

The reaction of (NBu(n)(4))[Mn(8)O(6)Cl(6)(O(2)CPh)(7)(H(2)O)(2)] (1) with 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine (hmpH) or 2-(hydroxyethyl)pyridine (hepH) gives the Mn(II)(2)Mn(III)(10) title compounds [Mn(12)O(8)Cl(4)(O(2)CPh)(8)(hmp)(6)] (2) and [Mn(12)O(8)Cl(4)(O(2)CPh)(8)(hep)(6)] (3), respectively, with X = Cl. Subsequent reaction of 3 with HBr affords the Br(-) analogue [Mn(12)O(8)Br(4)(O(2)CPh)(8)(hep)(6)] (4). Complexes 2.2Et(2)O.4CH(2)Cl(2), 3.7CH(2)Cl(2), and 4.2Et(2)O.1.4CH(2)Cl(2) crystallize in the triclinic space group P1, monoclinic space group C2/c, and tetragonal space group I4(1)/a, respectively. Complexes 2 and 3 represent a new structural type, possessing isomeric [Mn(III)(10)Mn(II)(2)O(16)Cl(2)] cores but with differing peripheral ligation. Complex 4 is essentially isostructural with 3. A magnetochemical investigation of complex 2 reveals an S = 6 or 7 ground state and frequency-dependent out-of-phase signals in ac susceptibility studies that establish it as a new class of single-molecule magnet. These signals occur at temperatures higher than those observed for all previously reported single-molecule magnets that are not derived from [Mn(12)O(12)(O(2)CR)(16)(H(2)O)(x)]. A detailed investigation of forms of complex 2 with different solvation levels reveals that the magnetic properties of 2 are extremely sensitive to the latter, emphasizing the importance to the single-molecule magnet properties of interstitial solvent molecules in the samples. In contrast, complexes 3 and 4 are low-spin molecules with an S = 0 ground state.  相似文献

The synthesis, crystal structure, and physical characterization of the coordination compounds [Ni(en)2]4[Fe(CN)5NO]2[Fe(CN)6]x5H2O (1), [Ni(en)2][Fe(CN)5NO]x3H2O (2), [Mn(3-MeOsalen)(H2O)]2[Fe(CN)5NO] (3), and [Mn(5-Brsalen)]2[Fe(CN)5NO] (4) are presented. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n (a = 7.407(4) A, b = 28.963(6) A, c = 14.744(5) A, alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 103.26(4) degrees, gamma = 90 degrees, Z = 2). Its structure consists of branched linear chains formed by cis-[Ni(en)2]2+ cations and ferrocyanide and nitroprusside anions. The presence of two kinds of iron(II) sites has been demonstrated by M?ssbauer spectroscopy. 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c (a = 11.076(3) A, b = 10.983(2) A, c = 17.018(5) A, alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 107.25(2) degrees, gamma = 90 degrees, Z = 4). Its structure consists of zigzag chains formed by an alternated array of cis-[Ni(en)2]2+ cations and nitroprusside anions. 3 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 (a = 8.896(5) A, b = 10.430(5) A, c = 12.699(5) A, alpha = 71.110(5) degrees, beta = 79.990(5) degrees, gamma = 89.470(5) degrees, Z = 1). Its structure comprises neutral trinuclear bimetallic complexes in which a central [Fe(CN)5NO]2- anion is linked to two [Mn(3-MeOsalen)]+ cations. 4 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/ncc (a = 13.630(5) A, c = 21.420(8) A, Z = 4). Its structure shows an extended 2D neutral network formed by cyclic octameric [-Mn-NC-Fe-CN-]4 units. The magnetic properties of these compounds indicate the presence of quasi-isolated paramagnetic Ni2+ and Mn3+. Irradiated samples of the four compounds have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry to detect the existence of the long-lived metastable states of nitroprusside.  相似文献

The tetranuclear manganese complex [Mn(IV)(4)O(5)(terpy)(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(6) (1; terpy = 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine) gives catalytic water oxidation in aqueous solution, as determined by electrochemistry and GC-MS. Complex 1 also exhibits catalytic water oxidation when adsorbed on kaolin clay, with Ce(IV) as the primary oxidant. The redox intermediates of complex 1 adsorbed on kaolin clay upon addition of Ce(IV) have been characterized by using diffuse reflectance UV/visible and EPR spectroscopy. One of the products in the reaction on kaolin clay is Mn(III), as determined by parallel-mode EPR spectroscopic studies. When 1 is oxidized in aqueous solution with Ce(IV), the reaction intermediates are unstable and decompose to form Mn(II), detected by EPR spectroscopy, and MnO(2). DFT calculations show that the oxygen in the mono-μ-oxo bridge, rather than Mn(IV), is oxidized after an electron is removed from the Mn(IV,IV,IV,IV) tetramer. On the basis of the calculations, the formation of O(2) is proposed to occur by reaction of water with an electrophilic manganese-bound oxyl radical species, (?)O-Mn(2)(IV/IV), produced during the oxidation of the tetramer. This study demonstrates that [Mn(IV)(4)O(5)(terpy)(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(6) may be relevant for understanding the role of the Mn tetramer in photosystem II.  相似文献

Synthesis, characterization, and reactions of the novel manganese-oxo cubane complex [Mn(4)O(4)(O(2)PPh(2))(6)](ClO(4)), 1+ (ClO(4)(-)), are described. Cation 1+ is composed of the [Mn(4)O(4)](7+) core surrounded by six bidentate phosphinate ligands. The proton-coupled electron transfer (pcet) reactions of phenothiazine (pzH), the cation radical (pzH(.+)(ClO(4)(-)), and the neutral pz* radical with 1+ are reported and compared to Mn(4)O(4)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (1). Compound 1+ (ClO(4)(-)) reacts with excess pzH via four sequential reduction steps that transfer a total of five electrons and four protons to 1+. This reaction forms the doubly dehydrated manganese cluster Mn(4)O(2)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (2) and two water molecules derived from the corner oxygen atoms. The first pcet step forms the novel complex Mn(4)O(3)(OH)(O(2)PPh(2))(6) (1H) and 1 equiv of the pz+ cation by net hydride transfer from pzH. Spectroscopic characterization of isolated 1H is reported. Reduction of 1 by pzH or a series of para-substituted phenols also produces 1H via net H atom transfer. A lower limit to the homolytic bond dissociation energy (BDE) (1H --> 1 + H) was estimated to be >94 kcal/mol using solution phase BDEs for pzH and para-substituted phenols. The heterolytic BDE was estimated for the hydride transfer reaction 1H --> 1+ + H(-) (BDE approximately 127 kcal/mol). These comparisons reveal the O-H bond in 1H to be among the strongest of any Mn-hydroxo complex measured thus far. In three successive H atom transfer steps, 1H abstracts three hydrogen atoms from three pzH molecules to form complex 2. Complex 2 is shown to be identical to the "pinned butterfly" cluster produced by the reaction of 1 with pzH (Ruettinger, W. F.; Dismukes, G. C. Inorg. Chem. 2000, 39, 1021-1027). The Mn oxidation states in 2 are formally Mn(4)(2II,2III), and no further reduction occurs in excess pzH. By contrast, outer-sphere electron-only reductants such as cobaltacene reduce both 1+ and 1 to the all Mn(II) oxidation level and cause cluster fragmentation. The reaction of pzH(.+) with 1+ produces 1H and the pz+ cation by net hydrogen atom transfer, and terminates at 1 equiv of pzH(.+) with no further reaction at excess. By contrast, pz* does not react with 1+ at all, indicating that reduction of 1+ by electron transfer to form pz+ does not occur without a proton (pcet to 1+ is thermodynamically required). Experimental free energy changes are shown to account for these pcet reactions and the absence of electron transfer for any of the phenothiazine series. Hydrogen atom abstraction from substrates by 1 versus hydride abstraction by 1(+ )()illustrates the transition to two-electron one-proton pcet chemistry in the [Mn(4)O(4)](7+) core that is understood on the basis of free energy consideration. This transition provides a concrete example of the predicted lowest-energy pathway for the oxidation of two water molecules to H(2)O(2) as an intermediate within the photosynthetic water-oxidizing enzyme (vs sequential one-electron/proton steps). The implications for the mechanism of photosynthetic water splitting are discussed.  相似文献

Cluster compounds of germanium exhibiting germanium-germanium bonds, where the germanium atoms are additionally bound to transition metal ligands, are rare. Here a synthetic pathway to such cluster compounds is described, starting from metastable Ge I halide solutions leading to the two cluster compounds Ge4Br4[Mn(CO)5]4 and Ge6Br2[Mn(CO)5]6, being the first examples of germanium cluster compounds bearing Mn(CO)5 ligands. The Ge6 compound exhibits a novel arrangement of germanium atoms that has not been previously observed in ligand stabilized cluster compounds of germanium, neither with organic nor with transition metal ligands. The bonding situation inside the cluster compounds is discussed, together with a possible reaction pathway that opens the way to metalloid cluster compounds of germanium exhibiting Mn(CO)5 ligands.  相似文献

Two tetranuclear Mn complexes with an average Mn oxidation state of +2.5 have been prepared. These valence isomers have been characterized by a combination of X-ray crystallography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility. The Mn(II)3Mn(IV) tetramer has the Mn ions arranged in a distorted tetrahedron, with an S = 6 ground spin state, dominated by ferromagnetic exchange among the manganese ions. The Mn(II)2Mn(III)2 tetramer also has a distorted tetrahedral arrangement of Mn ions but shows magnetic behavior, suggesting that it is a single-molecule magnet. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra for the two complexes are similar, suggesting that, while Mn XANES has sufficient sensitivity to distinguish between trinuclear valence isomers (Alexiou et al. Inorg. Chem. 2003, 42, 2185), similar distinctions are difficult for tetranuclear complexes such as that found in the photosynthetic oxygen-evolving complex.  相似文献

A method established in the present study has proven to be effective in the synthesis of Mn(2)O(3) nanocrystals by the thermolysis of manganese(III) acetyl acetonate ([CH(3)COCH=C(O)CH(3)](3)-Mn) and Mn(3)O(4) nanocrystals by the thermolysis of manganese(II) acetyl acetonate ([CH(3)COCH=C(O)-CH(3)](2)Mn) on a mesoporous silica, SBA-15. In particular, Mn(2)O(3) nanocrystals are the first to be reported to be synthesized on SBA-15. The structure, texture, and electronic properties of nanocomposites were studied using various characterization techniques such as N2 physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results of powder XRD at low angles show that the framework of SBA-15 remains unaffected after generation of the manganese oxide (MnO(x)) nanoparticles, whereas the pore volume and the surface area of SBA-15 dramatically decreased as indicated by N2 adsorption-desorption. TEM images reveal that the pores of SBA-15 are progressively blocked with MnO(x) nanoparticles. The formation of the hausmannite Mn(3)O(4) and bixbyite Mn(2)O(3) structures was clearly confirmed by XRD. The surface structures of MnO(x) were also determined by LRS, XPS, and TPR. The crystalline phases of MnO(x) were identified by LRS with corresponding out-of-plane bending and symmetric stretching vibrations of bridging oxygen species (M-O-M) of both MnO(x) nanoparticles and bulk MnO(x). We also observed the terminal Mn=O bonds corresponding to vibrations at 940 and 974 cm-1 for Mn(3)O(4)/SBA-15 and Mn(2)O(3)/SBA-15, respectively. These results show that the MnO(x) species to be highly dispersed inside the channels of SBA-15. The nanostructure of the particles was further identified by the TPR profiles. Furthermore, the chemical states of the surface manganese (Mn) determined by XPS agreed well with the findings of LRS and XRD. These results suggest that the method developed in the present study resulted in the production of MnO(x) nanoparticles on mesoporous silica SBA-15 by controlling the crystalline phases precisely. The thus-prepared nanocomposites of MnO(x) showed significant catalytic activity toward CO oxidation below 523 K. In particular, the MnO(x) prepared from manganese acetyl acetonate showed a higher catalytic reactivity than that prepared from Mn(NO(3))2.  相似文献

The reactions of appropriate ratios of K2TeO3 and [Mn2(CO)10)] in superheated methanol solutions lead to a series of novel cluster anions [Te4Mn3(CO)10] (1), [Te2Mn3(CO)9]2- (2), [Te2Mn3(CO)9]- (3), and [Te2Mn4(CO)12]2- (4). When cluster 1 is treated with [Mn2(CO)10]/KOH in methanol, paramagnetic cluster 2 is formed in moderate yield. Cluster 2 is oxidized by [Cu(MeCN)4]BF4 to give the closo-cluster [Te2Mn3(CO)9]- (3), while treatment of 2 with [Mn2(CO)10]/KOH affords the closo-cluster 4. IR spectroscopy showed that cluster 1 reacted with [Mn2(CO)10] to give cluster 4 via cluster 2. Clusters 1-4 were structurally characterized by spectroscopic methods or/and X-ray analyses. The core structure of 1 can be described as two [Mn(CO)3] groups doubly bridged by two Te2 fragments in a mu2-eta2 fashion. Both [Mn(CO)3] groups are further coordinated to one [Mn(CO)4] moiety. Cluster 2 is a 49 e- species with a square-pyramidal core geometry. While cluster 3 displays a trigonal-bipyramidal metal core, cluster 4 possesses an octahedral core geometry.  相似文献

In the cone conformation calix[4]arenes possess lower-rim polyphenolic pockets that are ideal for the complexation of various transition-metal centres. Reaction of these molecules with manganese salts in the presence of an appropriate base (and in some cases co-ligand) results in the formation of a family of calixarene-supported [Mn(III)(2)Mn(II)(2)] clusters that behave as single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Variation in the alkyl groups present at the upper-rim of the cone allows for the expression of a degree of control over the self-assembly of these SMM building blocks, whilst retaining the general magnetic properties. The presence of various different ligands around the periphery of the magnetic core has some effect over the extended self-assembly of these SMMs.  相似文献
