Cardenolides of the pods ofOrnithogalum magnum Krasch. et Schischk

Summary Steroid glycosides of the cardenolide group have been found inOrnithogalum magnum.Three glycosides, provisionally called substances a, b, and c, have been isolated by adsorption chromatography on alumina.Substance a is 3-(O--L-rhamnopyranosyl)-11, 14-dihydroxy-5-card-20(22)-enolide (rohdexin A).Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, Vol. 1, No. 3, pp. 156–160, 1965     

Cardenolides and coumarins ofCoronilla varia, C. cretica, etc.

Conclusions The cardenolide and coumarin composition ofC. varia L. and the closely related speciesC. hyrcana Pril.,C. cretica L., andC. orientalis Müll have been investigated. It has been shown that they all contain the cardiac glycoside hyrcanoside, with the exception ofC. orientalis, in which another, unidentified, glycoside, has also been found.A comparative study of some properties of hyrcanogenin (⁴-strophanthidin) and pachygenin (⁵-strophanthidin) connected with conformational features has been carried out.In the species studied, no less than five coumarins have been found of which umbelliferone, scopoletin, and daphnoretin have been isolated.Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, Vol. 5, No. 3, pp. 141–144, 1969     

Flavonoids ofPhellodendron sachalinense andPh. amurense

Summary 1. About ten substances of a flavonoid nature have been found in the leaves ofPhellodendron sachalinense (F. Schm.) Sarg. andPh. amurense Rupr.2. The two species of cork tree each contain two new flavonoids, which have been called phelloside and dihydrophelloside. The results of chemical and spectroscopic studies have permitted phelloside to be characterized as the 7,-di-O--D-glucopyranoside of noricaritin and dihydrophelloside as the 7,-di-O--D-glucopyranoside of dihydronoricaritin, the base of which contains kaempferol and aromadendrin.3. Amurensin (the 7--D-glucopyranoside of noricaritin) and icariside-1 (the -O--D-glucopyranoside of noricaritin) have been isolated as intermediates in the stepwise hydrolysis of phelloside; the latter has not been previously found in the Amur and Japanese cork trees.Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, Vol. 4, No. 2, pp. 77–82, 1968

Cardenolide glycosides ofCheiranthus allioni. XV. Glucocheiranthoside

Another new cardenolide glycoside has been isolated from the plantCheiranthus allioni Hort., and has been named glucocheiranthoside.
